Northern Iowa Defeats NDSU to Clinch Western Wrestling Conference Title

Cedar Falls, IA -- Northern Iowa won 9 of 10 weight classes including four pins to roll up a 44-6 victory over North Dakota State and clinch its second Western Wrestling Conference title Sunday, Feb. 24, at the McLeod Center.
Northern Iowa (7-5-1, 4-0 WWC) jumped out to a 20-0 lead before North
Dakota State (11-9, 4-2 WWC) scored its only points with Eric Hoffman's
third-period pin of Caleb Flores at 125 pounds.
UNI's Josh Baldridge answered with 14-5 major decision over Eric
Sanders at 133 pounds to put UNI ahead 24-6, and C.J. Ettelson's pin of
Geoff Martin at 141 clinched the win for the Panthers.
North Dakota State is off until Saturday, March 8, when it hosts the
NCAA West Regional at the Bison Sports Arena. The six-team tournament
will qualify 10 champions and 10 at-large wrestlers for the NCAA
Division I national championships in St. Louis on March 20-22.
Participating teams include Air Force, Northern Colorado, Northern Iowa, South Dakota State and Wyoming.
