With a strong end-of-the-year finish, the Augustana wrestling
team has cracked the national rankings, earning the No. 20 ranking in
the final regular season NCAA Division II Wrestling Coaches Association
Top 20 Poll.
The Vikings ended the season by winning 3 of their last 4 duals,
including wins over nationally-ranked Northern State and Minnesota
State, Moorhead. Augustana backed that up with a solid fifth-place
showing at the North Regional Championships on Sunday.
In the individual national rankings, Augie has one wrestler ranked in
the top 8 in his respective weight class. Ty Copsey moved up 1 spot to
No. 3 in the 197-pound rankings. Copsey captured the regional
championship on Sunday and has a 28-5 record.
Augustana qualified 5 wrestlers for the NCAA Division II National
Championships, scheduled for March 14-15 at Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Besides, Copsey, the other Vikings who qualified were Jason Jeremiason
(133 pounds), Jay Sherer (141 pounds), Mike Long (149 pounds) and Beau
Severtson (184 pounds).
