St. Cloud State Places 12th at National Championships

Cedar Rapids, Iowa - The tenth-ranked St. Cloud State wrestling
squad finished with three top-eight finishes at the 2008 National
Tournament Saturday afternoon at the U.S. Cellular Center. Team scores
will be finalized after tonight's last session.
Brad Padgett (Buckley, Wash.) led all Husky competitors by claiming
fourth place at 184 lbs. Padgett started his day by defeating #4 Keeno
Griffin (Newberry) by a 10-4 decision. Padgett then took an 8-5 victory
over #5 Heath Jolley (Central Oklahoma) before falling in the third
place match to #1 Jared Deaguero (Adams State), 4-3.
Nick Wilkes, competing in his second straight National Tournament,
finished sixth at 197 lbs. Wilkes defeated #5 Kelly Anundson (Newberry)
9-8 before falling to third-ranked Ty Copsey (Augustana) in overtime.
In the fifth place match Wilkes lost another close contest to #2 Josh
Ohl (Ashland) 6-4.
#8 John Sundgren took home eighth place at 157 lbs. to round out the
Husky placers. Neil Samples (Western State) took down Sundgren via a
3-2 decision before Sundgren fell to #3 Noomis Jones (Adams State) for
the second time in the tournament.
The Huskies finished in 12th place as a team at the tournament. SCSU
sent a total of seven wrestlers to the tournament, with three making in
to today's final rounds. The Huskies ended the season with a 13-2 dual
record.
