Hoffman Wins, Loses in Consolation Bracket at NCAA Wrestling Championships

ST. LOUIS -- North Dakota State
senior Eric Hoffman was eliminated from the NCAA Division I wrestling
championships Friday afternoon after winning his third match and losing
his fourth match at 125 pounds.
Hoffman, who entered the day 1-1, stayed alive with a 12-6 decision
over 20th-ranked Javier Maldonado of Tennessee-Chattanooga
in the third consolation round. He lost a 3-0
decision to ninth-ranked Rollie Peterkin of Penn in the
fourth consolation round.
Hoffman won his opening match of the tournament 14-6 over
Oklahoma's 15th-ranked Joey Fio in Thursday's first round
before losing 6-3 to top-ranked Angel Escobedo of Indiana
in the second round. He finished the year 16-5.
NDSU sophomore Ryan Adams was eliminated at 149 pounds Thursday with
a loss by fall to No. 18-ranked Josh Wagner of Missouri,
who pinned Adams in 1 minute. Adams lost by 11-2
major decision in the first round to No. 5-ranked Josh
Churella of Michigan. He finished the year 11-5.
NDSU junior Jacob Bryce was eliminated at 197 pounds Thursday with an
11-5 loss to Lamar Brown of Rutgers. Bryce lost by
fall in the first round to No. 5-ranked Dallas Herbst of
Wisconsin, who pinned Bryce in 25 seconds. He finished the
year 15-12.
The tournament continues Friday night and all day Saturday at the Scottrade Center.
