SCSU ranked among nation's top recruit classes by InterMat

St. Cloud, Minn. - InterMat, a respected website that provides national
coverage of all levels of collegiate wrestling, has released its top
college recruiting classes for the upcoming 2008-09 season, and the St. Cloud State University Huskies received mention in the InterMat polls for NCAA Division II schools.
St. Cloud State was joined among the top Division II programs recruit
classes by Augustana, CSU-Pueblo, Nebraska-Kearney, Nebraska-Omaha and
Newberry.
The Huskies will begin their third season under the leadership of head
coach Steve Costanzo. In 2007-08, St. Cloud State University posted a
13-2 dual match record and placed 12th in the nation at the NCAA
Division II championships. The victory total for the Huskies last
winter was the most in one season since 1972-73.
SCSU also sent seven athletes to the 2008 NCAA Division II
championships, as Brad Padgett (184-pounds/4th), Nick Wilkes
(197-pounds/6th) and John Sundgren (157-pounds/8th) all earned
All-America honors.
The Huskies will open the 2008-09 season on Nov. 7, with the annual
Husky Black/Red Classic at 7 p.m. in Halenbeck Hall. SCSU will then
travel to open meets at the Cobber Open (Nov. 15), the
Auggie/Brute/Adidas Open (Nov. 22) and the Dragon Open (Dec. 6) before
hosting the Husky Open tournament in Halenbeck Hall on Dec. 13. This
all-day tournament attracts many of the nation's top collegiate
athletes to SCSU each season. The Husky Open will also be SCSU
Wrestling Parents' Day.
On Jan. 4, SCSU will travel to the Menlo Invite in Atherton, Calif.,
and the Huskies have also been invited to the elite Division II
National Duals that will take place in Cedar Falls, Iowa on Jan. 10-11.
SCSU will kick-off its dual meet season on Jan. 16, with a date at
nearby St. John's University, and on Jan. 22, the Huskies will travel
to perennial Division II power Nebraska-Omaha. The Huskies will return
home for back-to-back dual matches against Northern State and Mary on
Jan. 30 and Feb. 1 respectively. The date against Northern State has
been designated as Prep Night, and the dual against Mary is Alumni Day
at SCSU.
On Feb. 13, the Huskies will host Minnesota State, Moorhead, and their
final home dual match will be against downstate rival Minnesota State,
Mankato on Feb. 19. This match has been designated as Senior Night at
SCSU for 2008-09. To cap the season, the NCAA Division II North
Regional will take place on March 1, at Marshall, Minn. The 2009 NCAA
Division II championships will take place in Houston, Tex. on March
13-14.
