
Mavericks Rated Second in NWCA Poll

Five Minnesota State Wrestlers Ranked in Top Eight Nationally in First Poll for 2008-09
Edmund, Okla. -- The Minnesota State wrestling team
opens the 2008-09 season ranked second in the nation according to first
poll of the year issued by the NCAA Division II Wrestling Coaches
Association.
MSU garnered two first-place votes and received 149 points overall. The
University of Nebraska-Omaha is ranked #1 with 158 points.
In 2007-08 the Mavericks claimed a NWCA National Duals title, a NCAA
North Central Regional title and earned a second-place finish at the
NCAA Championship, finishing a scant one half point behind first-place
finisher Nebraska- Kearney.
Five Mavericks are ranked individually in their respective weight
classes. Senior John Putman (Oak Lawn, Ill.) is ranked fith at 133.
Junior Travis Elg (Mountain Lake, Minn.) is ranked third at 141.
Sophomore Tommy Abbott (Wilmington, Del.) is ranked fourth at 149.
Senior Tim Matheson (Circle Pines, Minn.) is ranked seventh at 174.
Junior Brady Wilson (Faribault, Minn.) is ranked third at 285.
MSU is scheduled to open its season Saturday, November 15th, 2008 with the Harold Nichols Open in Ames, Iowa.
