Mavericks Ranked Second in Most Recent Wrestling Poll

Minnesota State Grapplers Boast Five Ranked Individuals

Edmond, Okla. -- Minnesota State is ranked #2 in the most recent poll released by the NCAA Division II Wrestling Coaches’ Association.

Nebraska- Omaha still holds the #1 ranking with 158 points. The Mavericks, ranked #2, received one first-place vote and 147 points overall and Nebraska- Kearney sits two2 points behind Minnesota State with 145 points at the #3 spot.

MSU was rated second in the 2008-09 preseason rankings.

A quintent of MSU wrestlers are ranked individually at their respective weights. Junior Brady Wilson (Faribault, Minn.) is ranked #3 at heavyweight. Sophomore Tommy Abbott (Wilmington, Del.) is ranked #3 at 149. Senior John Putman (Oak Lawn, Ill.) is ranked #4 at 133. Junior Travis Elg (Mountain Lake, Minn.) is ranked #4 at 141 and senior Tim Matheson (Circle Pines, Minn.) is ranked #7 at 174.

MSU is slated to compete in its next action at the UNI Open this Sunday.
