Barrie Headlines Trio of Mustang Placers at Dragon Open

MOORHEAD, MINN. - Michal Barrie posted a second place finish at 133
pounds in the Red Division at the Dragon Open hosted by Minnesota State
Moorhead to lead three Southwest Minnesota State wrestlers who posted top-three finishes Saturday in Moorhead, Minn.
Brady Myers grabbed a third-place finish at 184 pounds in the White
Division, while C.D. Johnson also brought home a third-place finish at
184 pounds in the Red Division.
Barrie posted a 2-1 record on the day en route to his runner-up finish
at 133 pounds, taking a pair of decisions from MSU Moorhead's Kelly
Janke and Augustana's Jason Jeremiason. His only loss of the day
came in the championship bout when he lost a 15-6 decision to
Augsburgs' Travis Lang.
Myers opened the day by pinning Sioux Falls' Clint Whitley in 2:31 but
lost the ensuing bout to Augustana's Luke Heine by a 7-5
decision. The freshman won his next four matches of the day,
including a 9-7 decision over unattached wrestler Andre Hallberg in the
third place match.
C.D. Johnson's day started with a loss to Garret Long of Augsburg;
however, he rattled off three wins in as many matches to meet Long
again in the third place match. C.D. Johnson avenged the loss
from earlier in the day by pinning Long in 2:59.
SMSU (1-0, 0-0 NSIC) returns to action Tuesday at 7 p.m. when it
travels to Minneapolis, Minn., to meet Augsburg for its first dual
action since Nov. 12.
