#12 Huskies Lose tough match against Western State, 21-18

Cedar Falls, Iowa – The #12 St. Cloud State Wrestling
team dropped a tough 21-18 match against Western State in a match at
the Division II National Duals on Satruday, Jan. 10. The match was held
at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa. SCSU wrestlers
gaining wins in the match were Josh Williams at 133-pounds, Gabe Suarez
at 141-pounds, John Sundgren at 157-pounds, Tad Merritt at 165-pounds
and Erik Rogness at 285-pounds. The complete results of the match are
listed below. SCSU is now 1-2 in dual match action this winter.

#12 Huskies Bounce Back with 30-6 Victory over #13 Findlay
St. Cloud State bounced back from an earlier loss to topple #13 Findlay (Ohio) 30-6 Saturday afternoon at the UNI Dome.
Tad Merritt (Canby) and Brad Padgett (Buckley, Wash.) led the Huskies in this dual, as both beat nationally ranked opponents.
Merritt, who was ranked eighth at 165 lbs. coming into the match,
squeaked out a 5-3 victory over #7 Justin Shannon. Third-ranked Padgett
was solid as well, as he came away with a 6-1 victory over #4 Hiram
Smith.
Gabe Suarez (Las Vegas) rebounded from an earlier loss to take a tech
fall, 20-5 victory over Alex Shumaker. Josh Williams (Banks, Ore.),
John Sundgren (Blaine), and Derek Skala (Owatonna) all posted their
first “W” of the day with victories in their matches.

#12 Huskies fall to #6 Central Oklahoma 33-8 in First Round of National Duals
Luke Munkelwitz (Forest Lake) and Brad Padgett (Buckley, Wash.) each
won their match, but the Huskies could not overcome a strong, sixth
ranked Central Oklahoma as the Huskies fell 33-8 in the first round of
the National Duals at the UNI Dome.
#3 Padgett defended his ranking by winning a 7-3 decision over Daniel
Morrison. It was the 10th win on the season for Padgett, who finished
fourth at the Division II National Tournament last season.
Munkelwitz, wrestling at 197 lbs., posted a tech fall victory over Zach
James. Munkelewitz ended the match with a 16-1 lead at 3:27 of the
match.
Central Oklahoma raced out to seven straight victories to start the
dual, jumping out to 30-0 lead. Gabe Suarez (Las Vegas) and Jake
Roberts (Jordan) lost the toughest matches as they fell 2-0 and 6-5 in
their matches respectively.
