NDSU to host Augsburg

The North Dakota State wrestling team will return to the Bison Sports Arena to host Division III Augsburg on Friday, Jan. 16 at 7:30 p.m. It will be the third home dual of the year for the Bison. NDSU is currently 1-1 at home this season.

Matching up with the Auggies
This will be the 11th meeting between NDSU and Augsburg since the series began in 1977. The series is currently knotted at five wins apiece. The last meeting came during the 2003-04 season when the Bison won 18-13. Augsburg is coming off a championship run at the NWCA Divison III National Duals, where the Auggies went 4-0. Augsburg is 5-1 this season and has captured two tournament titles. Last season, the Auggies won the NCAA Great Lakes Regional en route to a third place finish at the Division III National Championships.

Bison go 0-3 at Virginia Duals
North Dakota State opened the Virginia Duals against No. 22 Penn. Adam Aho was the only Bison to register a victory in the 33-3 loss to the Quakers. In the next match against Rider, the Bison dropped a 35-7 decision. Gabriel Mooney won a 6-4 decision and Ryan Adams won a 10-2 major decision to lead the Bison against the Broncs. NDSU then closed out Virginia Duals action against Ohio. Ohio took the first three weight classes, but the Bison battled back to win four of the last seven matches, but it wasn’t enough as they fell to the Bobcats, 27-16. Adams and Aho both won their second match of the day against Ohio, while Kenny Moenkedick and Tyler Hemmesch also picked up victories.

Aho, Moenkedick hit double digit win mark
With victories at the Virginia Duals, Senior Adam Aho and sophomore Kenny Moenkedick both hit the 10-win tally for the season. Aho went 2-1 at the Virginia Duals and now has a 10-8 mark this season. Moenkedick is 10-5 overall this year. Junior Ryan Adams leads the team with an 18-7 mark. Senior Gabriel Mooney has tallied 14 wins, freshman Drew Ross has 12 and Vince Salminen has 10.
