MSU Opens NSIC Competition

Moorhead, Minn. -- The fourth-ranked Minnesota State wrestling squad opened conference duals Friday night in Moorhead as they faced #19 MSU Moorhead. The Mavericks defeated the Dragons with a 26-12, pushing their dual record to 5-3 on the season.

The Mavericks began the evening winning their first four matches beginning with a win by decision, from sophomore Andy Forstner (Madelia, Minn.) over Corey Ullmer, 8-5. Senior Tim Haneberg (Tinley Park, Ill.), senior John Putman (Oak Lawn, Ill.), and sophomore Tommy Abbott (Wilmington, Del.) rounded out the first four Maverick victories getting them off to a 4-0 start.

The Mavericks then dropped their next two matches but got back on track with a win from junior Ben Becker (Fort Dodge, Iowa) over Jarrett Hall by decision at 184 pounds. Freshman Aaron Norgren (Good Thunder, Minn.) continued the winning with a win by major decision, 12-4, over Dustin Nagel at 197. To cap the night off, #3 ranked junior Brady Wilson (Faribault, Minn.) pinned his counterpart Jon Swart in four minutes and thirteen seconds at heavyweight.
