Augie Wrestlers Defeat U-Mary 30-15

On the strength of three major decisions and two forfeits, the 13th-ranked Augustana wrestling team defeated the University of Mary 30-15 Friday night in Bismarck, N.D.
The Vikings (7-7, 3-3 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) snapped
a five-match losing skid in downing the Marauders (2-9, 0-6 NSIC).
Al Meger, Jay Sherer and Brian Schultz all picked up major decision
victories for the Vikings. In addition, Sid Bice won by forfeit at 133
pounds and Mike Long did the same at 149 pounds. Two of U-Mary’s wins
came as a result of Augustana being open at 184 and 197 pounds.
Meger, a 125-pounder, routed UM’s Dan Sabin by a score of 13-2.
Meanwhile, at 141 pounds, Jay Sherer just missed getting a technical
fall as he outscored Landon DellaSilva 19-5. Then at 174 pounds,
Augie’s Brian Schultz scored a 16-7 major decision over Lance Piatz.
Augie’s other two victories were close decisions. At 157 pounds, Carl
Serck edged Collin Engelhardt 7-5, while Marcus Edgington defeated
Shane Primeau 7-6 at 165 pounds.
U-Mary’s Keith McCleary picked up the Marauders’ other win as he downed Augustana’s Lance Peters at 285 pounds.
Augustana concludes its weekend road trip with a dual at in-state rival
Northern State on Saturday. The dual is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. in
Aberdeen, S.D.
