MARSHALL, Minn. - Minnesota State Moorhead took four of the final five bouts of the afternoon to hand the Southwest Minnesota State wrestling team a 26-13 conference loss Saturday in Marshall.
MSUM improves to 7-11 (3-3 NSIC), while SMSU drops to 3-6 (2-4 NSIC).
Wrestling started at 285 pounds, where MSUM's Tim Johnson managed to
hold SMSU's Carter Ash scoreless picking, up a 4-0 decision.
The Mustangs left 125 pounds open, but SMSU's Michal Barrie responded
for SMSU, taking a 4-2 decision from Kelly Janke at 133 pounds to get
SMSU on the board.
Garret Rozeboom and David Albrecht kept it rolling for the Mustangs,
grabbing win at 141 and 149 pounds, respectively. Rozeboom's win was by
major decision. The three straight victories put the Mustangs up by one
at 10-9.
From there the momentum shifted as MSUM managed wins in the next three
bouts, one by fall and another by major decision to make it a Dragon
lead at 22-10
In the ensuing bout, SMSU's Tyler Johnson was an 8-1 winner over MSUM's
Dustin Nagel at 184 pounds to make it 22-13. SMSU's Tyler Reed dropped
the next bout at 197 pounds to make the final score 26-13.
SMSU hosts Upper Iowa on Friday at 7 p.m.
