
Seven Gopher Wrestlers Named Academic All-Big Ten

On the heels of a successful performance at last week’s NCAA Championships, the Minnesota wrestling program
received word Thursday from the Big Ten that seven student-athletics
have been named to the league’s academic all-conference team.
Headlining the list were junior Jayson Ness and senior Tyler
Safratowich. Both earned All-America honors at last week’s NCAA
Championships, with Ness placing third in the 133-pound weight class
and Safratowich taking eighth in the 157-poiunt class.
Also being named to the Academic All-Big Ten team were junior Brent
Eidenschink, junior Chris McPhail, sophomore Joe Nord, sophomore Brian
Peterson and sophomore Jared Rickert.
The seven Gopher wrestlers are among 58 Minnesota winter sport student-athletes honored with Academic All-Big Ten recognition.
