
NDSU Wrestling Signs Two to National Letters of Intent

FARGO, N.D. - North Dakota State head wrestling coach Bucky Maughan today announced the signing of two athletes to National Letters of Intent.
Joe Arthur of Bloomington, Ind. and Trevor Johnson of Bismarck, N.D. both signed letters of intent to wrestle for the Bison. They join Steven Monk and Brady Burgess as part of the incoming freshman class. Monk and Burgess signed NLIs in November.
Arthur, a heavyweight out of Bloomington North High School, compiled a
career record of 121-20. As a senior, he went 40-4 and was ranked
as high as 14th among heavyweight seniors by Wrestling USA Magazine.
Last summer, he won the cadet freestyle national championship at the
USA Wrestling meet in Fargo.
Johnson, a two-time state champion out of Bismarck High School, had a
197-45 career record with 65 pins. He won the North Dakota state
title at 130 pounds in 2008 and at 145 pounds in 2009. He also
led Bismarck H.S. to three state titles. He will join his brother
Tyler on the Bison wrestling squad.
Since signing with NDSU in November, Monk won his second straight
folkstyle national title at the ASICS USA Wrestling Championships at
145 pounds. He also won the 140 pound Wisconsin state
title. Burgess captured the 4A Wyoming state title at 171 pounds.
The Bison finished the 2008-09 season with a record of 5-10-1 and a 2-4
mark in the Western Wrestling Conference. Junior Ryan Adams,
freshman Justin Solberg and freshman Tyler Johnson earned All-WWC
honors.
