
Gopher's Geiger to Represent USA on Junior World Team

Interview with 96 kg champion Ryland Geiger
Minnesota’s
Ryland Geiger (Scappoose, Ore./Scappoose) won his weight class at the
final round of the 2009 FILA Junior World Team Trials in freestyle
wrestling at the U.S. Olympic Training Center this past weekend. Geiger
won the 96kg/211.5 pound weight class, defeating Iowa’s Brode Ambrose
7-2 and 2-1 in the first match, and 3-0, 3-1 in the final match.
Champions from the FILA Junior World Team Trials have earned the right
to represent the USA at the FILA Junior World Team Trials in Ankara,
Turkey this August.
FILA Junior athletes are 17-20 years old, a group that includes many of
the nation’s top college underclassmen and the most talented high
school athletes.
Geiger was a freshman for the Golden Gopher wrestling team in 2008-09.
During his rookie season, he compiled a 19-3 record at 197 pounds.
