
Von Ohlen wins Cowboy Open

Cole Von Ohlen, a freshman at the U.S. Air Force Academy, began his
college wrestling career Saturday with four wins and the 141-pound
title at the Cowboy Open in Laramie, Wyoming.
VonOhlen, a 2008 Jackson County Central graduate, recorded falls in
each of his first two bouts, pinning Dylan Lewis of Colorado School of
Mines in 2:04 and Wyoming's Chase Smith at the 4:16 mark.
He then won an 8-6 decision in overtime over Kenny Hashimoto of
Northern Colorado in the semifinals before winning 6-5 in the finals
over Chadron State's Jimmy Savala.
VonOhlen was a two-time state champion at JCC. He won the 130-pound
Class 1A state title in 2008 and the 119-pound Class 2A title in 2007.
He was also the Class 2A 103-pound runner-up in 2006. Cole compiled a
high school record of 162-16 and was 135-7 over his final three seasons.
Air Force is coached by Joel Sharratt, a Bloomington Kennedy grad who
went on to wrestle for at Iowa, wrestling for a national title three
times under Dan Gable, winning one.
The Falcons will be in Omaha this Saturday for the Kaufman/Brand Open
