Ridgewater sacks NIACC
WILLMAR -- Tyler Stemper’s decision at 157-pound launched a Ridgewater
College comeback and the Warriors knocked off North Iowa Area Community
College 27-21 on Tuesday.
Ridgewater trailed 15-5 before catching fire. Chase Tempel followed
Stemper with an 8-7 win, on riding time, and then Travis Peralta pinned
Isaiah Tatum with a second left in the first period for 17-15 lead.
Martin Hagen added sixpoints from a first-period pin at 184 and then
Evan Stock, his former teammate at Yellow Medicine East, clinched the
victory with a 9-1 decision that made it 27-15.
Hagen, who was 14-14 as a freshman, evened his record at 6-6 this fall. He used a firemen’s carry for his fourth pin.
Peralta, a state champion for Thief River Falls last March, got his team-leading 14th win.
Coach Tom Beyer singled out Nate Friederich’s technical fall at 125 as
especially impressive since it came against a two-time Arizona state
champion.
“The team wrestled really hard tonight,” said Beyer. “We’re doing
something with what we’ve been learning. It was a good match for us
against a quality opponent.”
The Mason City community college competes at the Division I level and his currently ranked No. 15.
The team isn’t home again until the Ridgewater Open Jan. 9.
