NDSU Wrestling Claims 23-12 Victory Over Cal State Fullerton

FULLERTON, Calif. - The North Dakota State wrestling
team improved to 3-3 with a 23-12 win over Cal State Fullerton on
Friday night. The Bison claimed seven of the 10 bouts, including the
final three.
Sophomore Tyler Johnson gave the Bison early momentum, defeating
Clayton Schuelke by technical fall, 16-1, at 165 pounds to start the
meet. Johnson notched three near-falls in the win.
Fullerton earned three points at 174 pounds as Todd Noel won an 11-4 decison over redshirt freshman Mac Stoll.
At 184 pounds, junior Kenny Moenkedick used a second period takedown to
clinch a 5-2 win over Mark Savalle. At 197 pounds, sophomore Drew Ross
tallied three takedowns en route to a 10-3 victory over Ethan Weisrock.
Fullerton's Kurt Klimek claimed the heavyweight bout with a 9-2 decision over freshman Joe Arthur.
Sophomore Justin Solberg won a 9-4 decision over Andre Gonzalez at 125
pounds, thanks to three takedowns, while senior Ryan Adams won a
low-scoring battle against Armando Gonzalez, 2-0, at 141 pounds. Adams
earned one point in the second period for an escape and also was able
to earn a point for riding time.
Junior Andrey Patselov won his third straight bout at 149 pounds,
defeating Mario DeCaro in an 8-5 decision. A late third period takedown
secured the win.
Junior Vince Salminen capped off the meet with an 8-2 decision over
Steven de la Fuente at 157 pounds. Salminen notched three takedowns in
the win.
The Bison continue action Saturday, Jan. 9 when they travel to No. 19
Cal Poly for a 5 p.m. PT dual. It will be NDSU's third ranked opponent
of the year.
