Dragons Unable To Move No. 6 Peacocks

Fayette, Iowa - The Minnesota State University Moorhead
Dragons took on the No. 6 seed Upper Iowa University Peacocks on the
first night of back-to-back duals, both against nationally ranked
opponents. The Dragons ran into one of the toughest opponents they will
face and fell 48-0.
The Peacocks brought out their full arsenal featuring five nationally
ranked wrestlers. Tallen Wald nearly had the first Dragon win of the
night as he wrestled Justin Decker at 157 pounds. Wald escaped late in
the third period but lossed on riding time and a 2-1 decision. Junior
Jon Swart looked to rebound shortly after at 197 pounds against Nick
Shandri. Swart managed three escapes in the final round and also gained
a point on an Upper Iowa stall but the deficit was too much and Swart
fell to a 5-4 decision. The Dragons fought back as best they could but
simply could not get an initial spark and their hopes of an upset
fizzled out.
The loss drops the Dragons to 3-7 on the season (1-2 NSIC). The win
will push the Peacocks to 9-1 on the season (3-0 NSIC). The Dragons
schedule only gets tougher as they must face the No. 4 ranked Minnesota
State Mankato Mavericks in Mankato at 7 p.m. The Dragons will look for
a big upset before returning home for the rest of the season.
