St. Cloud State Falls to Nebraska-Omaha

St. Cloud, Minn. – The No. 8 St. Cloud State men’s wrestling
team lost its Husky Alumni Day tussle with No. 1 University of
Nebraska-Omaha in a 34-9 contest Saturday afternoon at Halenbeck
Halenbeck.
The Huskies (9-6) lost the first match of the day at 197 pounds to fall behind 3-0.
But St. Cloud State was able to answer with a huge three tie-breaker
win from No. 6 Jake Kahnke (Shakopee) in the heavyweight division with
a 4-3 win over No. 2 Elijah Madison.
With the score tied at 3-3, the wrestlers went extra time on the mat,
with Kahnke earning a riding time point to win the match and improve to
an impressive 21-3 on the season.
Junior Derek Skala (Owatonna) was able to record the Huskies’ only pin
of the match in the final tilt of the day with 23 seconds to go in the
first period. Skala improves to 19-7 this season with the pin over No.
6 Austin Boehm.
SCSU will be on the road next week for a meet with Northern Sun
Intercollegiate Conference opponent Minnesota State University Moorhead.
The match is set for a 7 p.m. start on Friday, January 29 in Moorhead, Minn.
