MOORHEAD, Minn. -- It was only fitting on a night where Concordia honored past wresting All-American that the Cobbers would earn their record-setting 12th dual-meet victory of the year.

Concordia won the last four individual matches against the University of Mary and steamrolled to a 28-9 win in Moohread on Wednesday. The victory pushes the Cobbers' record to 12-5 on the season and breaks the school record for dual-meet wins in a single year. The old record of 11 was set back in 1985.

The match started out with each team grabbing three of the first six matches. After the opening six bouts the only difference in the score was the forfeit that CC junior Justin Berns was awarded at 149. The other five matches were all won by decision as the Marauders' Matt Garcia opened the night with a 7-6 decision at 125. Concordia's Joe Leacox scored four points in the third period of his match at 133 and won 6-1 to tie the overall team bout at 3-3. Cobber All-American candidate Ben Anderson then put CC up 6-3 by gaining a 6-1 win in overtime. For Anderson it was his 27th win of the year and 86th of his career.

Berns then collected the forfeit win at 149 which was his 27 win of the season and 98th of his career. He needs only two more wins to become the seventh wrestler in Cobber history to reach the 100-win mark. Collin Engelhardt then brought Mary within six at 12-6 by scoring a takedown in the final :30 seconds of his match at 157 and prevailing over Kevin Fynboh 3-2. In the match at 165, Taylor Nagel led wire-to-wire and came away with a 9-2 win which brought the Marauders all the way back to within three points at 12-9.

The Cobber big men then took control of the match and made sure that Concordia would not have to wait another year to try and break the record. Ross Dankers stepped on the mat and put forth a physically dominating match at 174 and won 13-4 to earn a major decision. Cobber All-American Phil Moenkedick once again wasted little time in dispatching a dual-meet opponent. Last week Moenkedick pinned his foe from MSU Moorhead in 2:43 and on Wednesday he forced Randall Wallace's shoulders to the mat in 2:36. Moenkedick now has a team-leading 11 pins on the season and is currently 22-2 on the year. Moenkedick is now 93-9 in his career as he heads into the NCAA Regional.

Concordia's hottest wrestler then picked up the most impressive win of the night. Freshman Nate Schmitz outlasted Mary veteran Dusty Vliem 3-2 to win his team-leading 28th match of the season. Vliem leads the Marauders in wins this season and has earned NSIC Wrestler of the Week honors three times in his career. Schmitz had a crucial takedown in the first period and then earned the match-winning point with an escape at the 1:31 mark of the third period.

Tom Bouressa then claimed the final win of the night for the Cobbers. Bouressa, wrestling in his first match since before Christmas, scored an escape at 1:43 of the third period to break a 0-0 deadlock and went on to win 2-0.

Concordia will now have a 10-day break before competing in the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Meet on Saturday, Feb. 20 at Augsburg. Last year the Cobbers finished second at the regional meet and placed two wrestlers in the national meet.
