St. Cloud State Wrestling Falls to Upper Iowa

St. Cloud, Minn. – It came down to a battle in the last match of the day between heavyweights as the No. 9 nationally ranked St. Cloud State wrestling
team was not able to stop No. 3 Upper Iowa from winning its third
Northern Sun Conference title in a 21-15 loss Saturday at Halenbeck
Hall.
SCSU owns a 4-2 NSIC record, which includes a 13-7 overall record,
while Upper Iowa won the NSIC Championship with a perfect 7-0
conference record (13-1 overall). SCSU will conclude its 2010
regular season on Feb. 19 with a road match at Minnesota State.
With the matched knotted at 15-15, Upper Iowa’s heavyweight Arron
Cramer was able to pin sophomore Josh Antonneau (Hartland, Wis.) 1:26
into the second period to take the match and take home the win.
Down 6-0 after the first two matches of the day, junior Gabriel Suarez
(Las Vegas, Nev.) tied the match up with a pin in the second period in
the 141-match to improve to 11-7 this season.
No. 8 John Sundgren (Blaine) earned a 7-3 win to improve to 15-7 on the season and tie the match up at 9-9 after the 157-match.
After the win, the Huskies dropped the next two matches and were down
15-9 before, No. 3 Derek Skala (Owatonna) turned out a 7-3 win to move
to 21-8 this season and No. 6 Lucas Munkelwitz (Forest Lake) set up the
final match with a 4-3 decision to finish the regular season 26-6.
