Mustang Trio Set for NCAA Championships
March 10, 2010
MARSHALL, Minn. - Three Southwest Minnesota State
wrestlers will make their way to Omaha, Neb., this weekend for the 2010
NCAA Division II Championships. Brandan Schunk, C.D. Johnson and Brian
Rodas have all qualified for the national tournament that will be
hosted by Nebraska-Omaha on Friday and Saturday.
All three wrestlers captured fourth-place finishes at the Super Region
Three Tournament two weeks ago, earning them automatic bids to the NCAA
Championships. Schunk will wrestle at 141 pounds, Johnson at 184 pounds
and Rodas at 285 pounds.
Schunk brings a 15-8 record into this weekend's action. He will face
UNO's Mario Morgan in the opening round. Johnson owns a 17-15 record
and will open with Kutztown's Tim Darling. With an 11-6 record, Rodas
will open against Charlie Alexander of Western State.
Having three wrestler qualify for the NCAA Championships is a
career-high for head coach Jesse Nelson. Last season, Nelson had two
wrestlers qualify, while the third-year head coach had one during his
inaugural campaign in 2007-08.
