NO. 2 GOLDEN GOPHERS TOP NO. 10 OREGON STATE 26-12

The No. 2 ranked Golden Gopher wrestling team defeated No. 10 Oregon State 26-12 at Gill Coliseum in Corvallis, Ore., this afternoon. Minnesota claimed six of the 10 matches to defeat the Beavers.

 

Senior Josh Holiday, ranked No. 4 in the country, started Minnesota off with a 14-4 major decision victory over Isaac Wood at 165. No. 1 ranked junior Brandon Eggum defeated Isaac Weber 16-5 at 184. Senior Tim Hartung, ranked No. 1 in the nation defeated sixth-ranked Shane Zajac with a technical fall decision in 6:45.

 

At 125, freshman Leroy Vega defeated Nathan Navarro with a major decision score of 14-6. Freshman Chad Erikson, ranked No. 11 in the nation, pinned Shane Cunanan in just 0:21 seconds to earn the Golden Gophers six points at 141 pounds. Sophomore Brad Pike lost a close match to No. 1 ranked Oscar Wood with a 4-3 decision at 149 and senior Chad Kraft, ranked No. 1 in the nation, defeated No. 15 ranked Eric Jorgensen 7-6 to clinch the victory.
