NO. 2 GOLDEN GOPHER WRESTLERS DOWN PORTLAND STATE 37-6

The No. 2 ranked Golden Gophers defeated Portland State 37-6 at Stott Center in Portland, Ore., this evening. Minnesota won matches to defeat the Vikings and improve its dual meet record to 4-1.

 

Senior Chad Kraft, ranked No. 1 in the nation, pinned Derek Smith in 4:13 to earn Minnesota six points to start off the match at 157. Following him, senior Josh Holiday, ranked fouth in the country, defeated R. J. Gillespie 14-5 at 165 pounds. No. 1 ranked junior Brandon Eggum defeated Lonnie Eggert 16-7 at 184 and senior Tim Hartung, also ranked No. 1 at 197, earned his seventh pin of the season over Adam Thomas in 2:46.

 

Also winning for Minnesota at 133 was senior Pat Connors with a 18-5 major decision, freshman Joe Calavitta with a 24-10 major decision over Casey Hunt at 141 and senior Troy Marr with a 9-3 decision over Brad Galletes at 149.
