Sports Pavilion Minneapolis, MN

The Gophers capped off their home schedule with wins over St. Cloud State and Northern Iowa in a double-header.

St. Cloud State avoided a shutout by winning the first match of the evening at 165 lbs. The Huskie's Klaus Alberts, ranked #2 in Division II, picked up a 7-4 victory over the Gopher's Jesse Krebs.

Minnesota went on to capture the remaining nine matches which included six major decisions and one technical fall. St. Cloud State is now 7-2 on the season and is ranked 14th in Division II.

Northern Iowa fared a little better than St. Cloud State winning two matches against Minnesota. Matt Kraft, who is filling in for an injured Delaney Berger, suffered an 8-3 loss at 174 pounds and Bart Golyer lost 6-3 to 7th ranked Eric Keller at 133 pounds.

Picking up major decisions for the Gophers were Josh Holiday, Tim Hartung, Chad Kraft and with a flurry of takedowns late in the third period -- Brandon Eggum. Eggum and Hartung both remain undefeated, Hartung with 28 wins and Eggum with 24.

Troy Marr picked up his 20th win of the season over Tony Davis who gave up two stalling points in the third period. Davis ran out of gas and Marr used his superior conditioning to come from behind in this one-point match.

Other Gopher's with 20 wins this season include Josh Holiday (26-2), Leroy Vega (21-4), Bart Golyer (21-10) and Chad Erikson (21-8). Chad Kraft is one short of 20 wins at 19-1.

"They really believe in what they're doing now," said Gopher Coach J Robinson who likes where his team is at right now, "they're learning that they can beat guys into the ground and wrestle with more intensity and we're doing it at the right time."

The Gopher's record is now 15-2 and 7-0 in the Big Ten. The Gophers have three meets remaining in their regular season.
