
Mike Allen and Chris Bono to go ‘On the Mat’ this week

Hall of Fame wrestling official Mike Allen and 1996 NCAA Champion Chris Bono will be radio show guests Wednesday night.
Mike Allen officiated for over three decades and was rewarded with
working many marquee dual meets and all the biggest tournaments in the
nation. A native of Waterloo, Iowa, Allen recently decided to end his
storied run as one of the top officials in scholastic wrestling. Allen
officiated over 50 national collegiate tournaments, including 23 NCAA
Division I Championships. He played football and wrestled for Ellsworth
Community College (IA) and University of Northern Iowa. He was inducted
into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in Stillwater, Oklahoma in
2007.
Chris Bono was an all-state linebacker in high school in Florida in
addition to being a three-time state champion wrestler. He was a
three-time All-American as an Iowa State Cyclone and 1996 NCAA Champion
at 150 pounds. Bono had considerable success as an international
wrestler, including three freestyle national titles and was a world
team member in 2001, 2002 and 2005. He served as the head coach at
University of Tennessee-Chattanooga for three years before returning to
Iowa State to serve as the top assistant coach under new head coach
Kevin Jackson.
