A memorial service for Paul Wellstone, Shelia Wellstone, Marcia Wellstone Markuson, Tom Lapic, Mary McEvoy and Will McLaughlin will be held Tuesday at 6:30 at Williams Arena on the University of Minnesota Campus. It is open to the public and people are advised to arrive early.
Paul Wellstone and his family have been active members of our wrestling community for many years. I have personally seen Paul attending many wrestling events including meets at both the high school and college level. He was a regular at the MSHSL State Tournament. His son, Mark, is an assistant coach for the Apple Valley High School wrestling team.
I am sure it would mean a lot to the families if the wrestling community is represented at the memorial service. It gives us an opportunity to pay respects to "Champions" who gave everything. These public servants will be missed. It also gives us an opportunity to reflect on the most important things as we hurry through our daily routine - like giving our kids and family members that hug or a few extra minutes of our time. And as we start our wrestling season remember wrestling is not life - it is a part of life.
