Central Minnesota Mat Rats Report

CLASS A

1. The Pierz Pioneers are working on shaking the effects of that successful football season. They topped Central Minnesota Conference foe Kimball 48-21 and a big section 6A foe Paynesville 43-26. The Pioneers scored 120.5 points at the Christmas tourney in Rochester to claim seventh in a field of twenty-nine teams. Nathan Britz was second, Matt Mrnak took third and Jon Andres took fourth place. Nick Gruber, Tanner Tetrick and Cody Luberts were all 3-2 for the weekend. The Pioneers topped two Central Minnesota foes in dual meet action; Eden Valley-Watkins 54-12 and Rockford 53-15. In a very impressive showing the Pioneers topped No. 5AA ranked Milaca 32-25 and Sartell 48-6. The Pioneers participated in "THE CLASH" possibly the top dual meet tourney in the USA and they came away with some bumps and bruises and with a three and three record. They topped Vacaville, California 35-33, El Modena, California 46-27 and class A rival Frazee 36-25. The lost to Skutt Catholic of Omaha, Nebraska (No. 1 B) 52-17, Glenbard, Illinois (No. 3 A) 48-13 and to Albert Lea (No. 3A) 49-9. Hank Virnig and Kyle Girtz had very impressive weekends going 5-1 and beating state ranked wrestlers. Kyle Bednar and Nathan Britz were nearly as impressive with 4-2 marks for the weekend. The Pioneers were without two of their very good upper weight wrestlers for the weekend.

2. The Eagles of New York Mills topped their rival and No. 8AA ranked Perham 38-21 and section 7A foe West Central Area 63-15. The Eagles had a strong showing at the "BIG BEAR CHRISTMAS TOURNEY" in Cass Lake with a fourth place finish in a field of thirty-three teams with 133 points. This is the biggest Minnesota tourney and one of the largest thru out the USA! Jason Burg won the championship at 130 and Brent Weller and Cody Salo had strong showings going 6-1 to claim third place. Jared Hotakainen claimed fifth place, Tim Wegschied and Jesse Bauck both took seventh place and Jeremy Hagen placed eighth. The Eagles had one of their top wrestlers not feeling well and another injured or they may have had a much stronger showing. The Eagles topped Section 7A foes Osakis 58-12 and Browerville-Eagle Valley 61-7. The did have a very solid performance at the Pine to Prairie tourney as they topped this large field of teams with 214 points and eleven place winners in the top four. The Eagles had three championships including Jason Burg; he was also named the Outstanding Wrestler, Brent Weller and Zac Hintzman. Jared Hotakainen, Jeremy Hagen, Cody Salo and Brandon Marsh all earn seconds. Jesse Bauck and Tim Wegscheid both claimed thirds, also earning a pair of fourths were Tyler Wegscheid and Jeramie Weller.

3. The Falcons of Atwater have had some very impressive outings thus far this season. They crushed the field of teams at the Melrose duals; they topped Delano 75-6, Melrose 56-11 and Long Prairie-Grey Eagle 58-3. They had ten wrestlers go 3-0 at the tourney; Ben Meyer, Bill Wheeler, Adam Hoeper, Josh Mages, A. J. Frederickson, Aaron Rouser, Spencer Lund, Nic Leither, Eric Peterson and Josh Lies. The Falcons showed that they can be a contender in Class A with their performance at the Becker Duals. They topped the Becker J. V. 70-6 and then topped lean and mean 3A Little Falls 35-28. Then in a dual that even surprised the matrat they topped No. 5AA ranked Milaca for the championship 36-32. Four Falcons were unbeaten at the tourney; Ben Meyer, Jason Losing, Spencer Lund and Nic Leither. Adam Hoeper, Bill Wheeler and Matt Leither were all 3-1 at the Becker Duals. The Falcons crushed two Section 5A teams; Trinity at Rivers Edge 63-6 and Meadow Creek River Academy 58-8. The Falcons continued to wrestle very well as they topped the field of eight teams at the Belgrade tourney with 190.5 points and eleven wrestlers placing in the top four. Jason Losing, Aaron Rouser, A. J. Frederickson, Spencer Lund and Nic Leither all won championships. Bill Wheeler, Matt Leither and Adam Hoeper all took seconds and Ben Meyer and Kelly Olson both earn thirds and Josh Lies took fourth place for the Falcons.

4. The Bullets of Wheaton-Herman-Norcross topped Section 7A foes Browerville-Eagle Valley 48-33 and Parkers Prairie 67-4. They topped Section 4A Dawson-Boyd 53-19 and AA Pelican Rapids 48-27. The Bullets had a very strong showing at the Valley City, ND tourney; they scored 232 points and had thirteen wrestlers in the top four. Five championships were won by Casey Gray, T. J. Severance, Brett Lennox, Cody Rinke and Brady Sykora. The also earned five seconds by Shane Fickes, Jesse Rath, Casey Neuman, Jerod Lennox and John Doll. Ryan Schwagle and Trent Frisch earned thirds and Tanner Lehman claimed fourth place.

5. The Raiders of Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale are another team off to a slow start because of their great football season. The Raiders stormed over the field of teams at the Eagle Valley tourney with 216 points. Zak Lambert, Ethan Kern, Matt Moenkedick, Adam Wutzke and Sam Moenkedick all earned championships. Wade Moenkedick, Jasper Oyster, Tony Schul and Josh Denny all earned seconds and Aaron Moenkedick claimed third place. The Raiders claimed third place at the Park Rapids duals with wins over Wadena-Deer Creek 40-39 and Park Rapids 45-27. They dropped a dual to BCLB 44-24. Matt and Sam Moenkedick and Jasper Oyster were all 3-0 for the weekend. The Raiders topped their AA rival Wadena-Deer Creek 37-37 and Section 7A foe Ottertail Central 45-33.

6. The Bulldogs of Paynesville topped West Central North foe Long Prairie-Grey Eagle 36-25 and they lost to Section 6A foe Pierz 43-22. The Bulldogs topped Section 6A foes Rush City 51-19 and BBE 54-20. They also topped West Central North foe Melrose. 40-30. The Bulldogs went 2-2 at the Farmington Duals with wins over Lakeville 53-18 and Farmington 4-15. They lost to Chatfield 40-29 and South St. Paul 40-34. Jordan Cristian, Joe Sheridan and Jack Mueller were all 4-0 at the tourney.

7. The Raiders of Mille Lacs topped section 6A foes Braham 41-36 and Hinckley-Finlayson 47-31. They lost a pair of duals to Wabasha-Kellogg 46-24 and AAA Osseo 34-33. The Raiders were second at their invite with 226 points and eight wrestlers in the top four. Jon Odle, Nolan Boucher and Nick Pfaff all won championships and Rob Olson,Tyler Walters and Chris Steffenson all earned seconds and Pat Sullivan and Kyle Prickett were both fourth.

8. The Eagles of Eden Valley-Watkins are still working at getting in wrestling shape after their successful football season. They topped Central Minnesota Conference foe Rockford 48-27 and lost to Conference foe Pierz 54-12. The Eagles dropped a close one to Albany 36-34 and to a very good AA Watertown-Mayer 53-12. At the Johnson duals the Eagles topped Nicollet 39-34 and St. Paul Johnson 71-12. They lost to AAA Wayzata 54-28. The Eagles topped Central Minnesota foe Kimball 61-13 and KMS 40-28. The Eagles topped Section 5A foes Meadow Creek Christian Academy 50-21 and Saint Croix Lutheran 59-9. The Eagles were fourth with 171 points at the Ogilvie tourney with nine wrestlers placing in the top four. Phillip Magedanz won the championship at 215 and Jess Saravia, Eric Sullinger and Paul Stommes earned seconds. Four thirds by Ryan Sullivan, Chris Farber, Nick Peterson and Heath Kramer and Raymond Rice was fourth.

9. The Scorpions of Howard Lake/Waverly/Winsted/Lester Prairie have had a pretty impressive start to their season. They topped LeCenter 54-18, Hayfield 52-21 and section 5A foe Montgomery-Lonsdale 41-33. Shane Khan, Ryan Miller and Harrison Kusslke were all 3-0 at the triangular. The Scorpions topped GFW 52-21 and Delano 50-23 before dropping a very close dual to section 5A rival Norwood Young America 32-31. Ryan Miller, Tyler Kloss, Jason Latzke and Tony Horstmann were all 3-0 at the triangular. The Scorpions scored 166 points at the Norwood Young America tourney to claim third place with nine wrestlers placing in the top four. Steve Bobrowske, Alex Schlueter and Jason Latzke claimed championships and Tyler Kloos took second. They had a pair of thirds by Shane Khan and Joel Kusske and a trio of fourths by Tony Horstmann, Clark Ostvig and Ryan Miller.

10. The Cowboys of Breckenridge dropped duals to Wahpeton, ND 44-24 and to lean and mean Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton 42-27. The Cowboys scored 113 points at the Montevideo to earn eighth place. The had three wrestlers place in the top four; Spencer Beech won a championship and Kelly Kristianson was third and Seth Klostreich was fourth. The Cowboys topped Pelican Rapids 39-33 and they lost to Perham 44-24.

11. The Braves of Benson topped West Central South foe Montevideo 42-33 and CACG 54-21. They lost duals to section 4A foe Dawson-Boyd 45-24 and to West Central Conference foe New London-Spicer 37-25. The Braves topped West Central South Conference foe LQPV 53-12 and CACG 54-21. The Braves scored 163 points at their own invite to claim fourth place with six wrestlers placing in the top four. Abe Miller won the championship and Scot Thompson, Kevin Wensigner, Brady Lee and Paul Carruth all earn seconds and Wade Miller took fourth place.

12. The Royalton/USA Coop has had a solid start to their season with wins over two section foes Hinckley-Finlayson 44-23 and Ogilvie 63-18. They have a win over AA Crosby-Ironton 43-33. The RUSA unit claimed third place at the Melrose tourney with 140 points. They had eight wrestlers place in the top four led by five seconds by Ryan Smude, Nathan Strom, Keith Schlichting, Brook Hackett and Hunter Guerard. A pair of thirds by Gary Borash and Ben Presler and Peter Borash earned fourth place. RUSA claimed fourth place at the Bronco tourney at Eagle Valley with 126.5 points. They had nine wrestlers place in the top four with Nathan Strom, Brook Hackett and Tom Schnieder all earned seconds. Keith Schlichting, Ryan Smude and Rachel Holthaus all earned thirds. Three fourths were earned by Gary Boresh, Jamie Carlson and Chris Waltman. The Royal of 2005 dropped a pair of duals to AA Big Lake 67-13 and to Becker 54-16. They had a great performance at their own invite with 181.5 points to earn second place. The Royal of 2005 had ten wrestlers place in the top four with two championships by Ryan Smude and Jamie Carlson. Keith Schlichting, Adam Schlichting and Gary Borash all earn seconds and four thirds by Ben Presler, Hunter Guerand, Jordan Wentland and Chris Waltman and Brook Hackett was fourth.

CLASS AA

1. The Knights of Saint Michael-Albertville crushed Zimmerman 57-18, Buffalo 42-21, Chisago Lakes 76-0 and Monticello 48-23. The Knights had a solid performance at the Christmas tourney in Rochester with 185.5 points to earn second in this twenty-nine team field of teams. The Knights had six place winners including championships by Mike Thorn and Chad Little and seconds by Joe Grygelko and Luke Vetsch. The Knights also earned two sixths by Andy Hackenmueller and Alex Becker. The Knights had a very strong showing at the "THE CLASH" where they were 4-2 over the two day tourney. They topped Higley, Arizona 71-6, Sedro Woodley, Washington (No. 1 3A), Lake Stevens, Washington (No. 1 4A) and Albert Lea (No. 3AAA) 25-22 in a awesome dual. They dropped a very close dual to Wisconsin, Rapids (No. 1 D1) 32-26 and good dual to Apple Valley 39-21. They were missing one of their top wrestlers; so this was an excellent showing by the Knights. The Knights topped Milaca in Rum River Conference action. They were 3-1 at the Farmington duals with wins over Farmington 73-3, Bloomington Kennedy 43-10 and Chatfield 55-9 and they fall to Scott West in the championship 33-15. Mickey Kirk, Luke Vetsch and Caleb McEachern were all 4-0 at the tourney.

2. The Dragons of Litchfield have wins over section rival Dassel Cokato 46-18 and AA foe Jackson County Central 46-25. They topped the field at the Ottertail Central duals with wins over Osakis 48-24, OTC 51-21 and Frazee 47-19. They had 24 wrestlers in action in those three duals. Reed Wimmer, Jon Malepsy, A. J. Werner, Blayne Johnson and Robbi Evenson were all 3-0 at the OTC duals. The Dragons took on some very good teams at "THE CLASH" where they were 2-4 on the weekend. They topped AAA Rochester 52-19 and Lean and Mean Stewartville 39-26. They dropped duals to (Skutt Catholic) Omaha, Nebraska (No. 1 B) 46-16, GMLOK (No. 2A) 46-17, Adrian (No. 2AA) 40-21 and Goodhue (Lean and Mean Class A) 39-30. Beau Penk was 5-0, David Malepsy 4-2, Blayne Johnson 4-2, Frank Koch 4-2, A. J. Werner 3-1 and Cory Schlack 3-2 were the top performers for the Dragons. They topped Section 5AA foe Waconia 48-19 and Mound-Westonka 45-30. They did defeat Little Falls 37-29,Wayzata 42-23 and Fergus Falls 47-9. Beau Penk , A. J. Werner and Cory Schlack were all 3-0 at the quadrangular.

3. The Wolves of Milaca had a huge win over Section 6AA rival Foley 39-22 where nearly 2,000 people attended this big match of the year. I don't think there could be a bigger rivalry in the state than this one. They topped Section 6AA foe Sartell 63-12 and they dropped a close dual to Pierz (No. 1 Class A) 32-25 in a very good dual. The Wolves earned second place at the Becker Duals with wins over St. Cloud Tech 46-18, Section 6AA rival Becker 40-28 and Section 6AA foe Mora/Pine City 48-21. The Wolves were surprised by Atwater Cosmos Grove City (No. 7 Class A) 36-32 to an underrated Class A team. The matrat will have to visit with that Class A rating editor about this one. The Wolves had four wrestlers go 4-0 including Andy Kotsmith (100th Career Win), Chuck LaMee (100th Career Win), John Fradette, Andy Peterson and Cody Kragt. Chris Kragt, Dan Crain, Steve Vedders and Clinton Swenson were all 3-1were their leaders. The Wolves lost to No. 1 AA St. Michael-Albertville.

4. The Falcons of Foley dropped a dual to Section 6AA rival Milaca 39-22. They claimed second at the Forest Lake duals with wins over Eden Prairie 35-33 and Elk River 37-22, before dropping the championship to Forest Lake 42-16. The Falcons topped two Section 6AA foes Rocori 31-23 and Sartell 54-21. They topped Rum River foe Chisago Lakes 53-15, Patrick Henry 70-6 and Alexandria 36-24. The Falcons topped the field of teams at the Buffalo duals with wins over Park Rpaids 50-9, Moundsview 51-10, Faribault 37-21 and in the finals they topped Section 6AA foe Big Lake 43-25. Jacob Bowland, Zach Rajkowski, Greg Stumvoll and Kyle Henry were all 4-0 and Cory Foss, Brandon Marshik, Mike fouquette and Derek Studenski were all 3-1. The Falcons are 19-2 in dual meet action thus far this season.

5. The Lakers of Minnewaska topped West Central South foes Morris Area/Hancock 74-6 and Montevideo 60-6. They defeated West Central Area 57-9 new Section 7AA foe Fergus Falls 49-21. The Lakers had a very solid performance at the Benson tourney with 230.5 points and thirteen place winners in the top four. They crowned five champions; including Sam Goracke, Trevor Larson, Colin Cihlar, Taylor Jergenson and Cody Pahan. They had a trio of seconds by Alan Lutterman, Joe Swartz and Justin Frederick and also a trio of thirds by David Bond, Ira Ammend and Jason Anderson. In addition to that Jon Tatro and Cass Kreitlow both earned fourths.

6. The Warriors of BOLD topped Section 5AA foe Dassel Cokato 45-27, River Valley 42-25 and RCW 59-9. They lost to the No. 5A rated New Richland/Heartland/Ellendale/Geneva 31-25. The Warriors topped Section 5AA foe Watertown-Mayer in a very good dual 32-30 and they dropped one to the No. 2AA team Adrian 42-16. The Warriors scored 186 points at the Belgrade tourney to earn second place with thirteen wrestlers placing in the top four. They claimed three championships by Pat LeVasseur, Jon Krame and Tom Elfering. They earned four seconds by Cole Neubauer, Jacob Duehn, Trent Squibb and Brian Hagen, a trio of thirds by Ross Jahnke, Mark Revier and Ben Aaseth. The Warriors had three fourths place winners by Cody Hatch, Bailey Rettmann and Mark Pretig.

7. The Gobblers of Aitkin topped Great River Conference foes Ogilvie 80-0 and Braham 61-9. They topped Mora in non-conference action 46-18. The Gobblers had a solid showing at the "BIG BEAR TOURNEY" they score 91.5 points for seventh out of a field of thirty-three teams. They had five place winners including Andrew Shavinsky earned fourth place, B. J. Wasserziecher earned a fifth place, Travis Hallberg earned a sixth place and a pair of eights by Justin Chouanard and John Arness. The Gobblers had a huge win over AAA rival Brainerd 57-11. The Gobblers had an impressive showing at the Perham duals with wins over Section 7AA foes Pelican Rapids 55-16 and Long Prairie-Grey Eagle 40-24 and Deer River 54-23. They lost to the Section 7AA defending champions Perham in a very good dual 36-34. Andrew Shavinsky, Trevor Sterling, B. J. Wasserzieher, Johnathon Arness, and Phillip Just were all 4-0 and Korey Tibbetts and Mike Christensen were 3-1 to lead the way for the Gobblers.

8. The Mainstreeters of Sauk Centre topped West Central North foe Albany 44-27 and they lost a dual to Atwater Cosmos Grove City (No. 7 Class A) 33-30. They topped West Central North rival Long Prairie-Grey Eagle 46-24. The Mainstreeters claimed second place at the Benson tourney with 199 points and ten wrestlers in the top four. Brian Beilke, Zach Winter and Steve Hollencamp all won championships and Adam Helgeson and Brian Ruegemer both earn second place. Four thirds by Weston Wander, Drew Fischer, Jake Uphus and Josie Olson and a fourth by Brad Hartigan lead the way.

9. The Sting of Yellow Medicine East topped Section 3AA foe Montevideo 58-7 and Pipestone 47-17. The Sting topped Renville County West 59-15, Redwood Valley by 66-9. The Sting scored 170 points at their invite to claim third place with nine wrestlers placing in the top four. Ryan Tongen and Chad Listul both won championships and four seconds were earned by Matt Williams, Landon Cole, Blaine Webber and Erick Isfeld. Jordan Stock claimed third place and Austin Cole and Eric Dubbelde both earned fourth places.

10. The Hornets of Big Lake have been on a roll with Rum River Conference wins over Chisago Lakes 33-27 and Princeton 61-15. They also have wins over St. Croix Falls, Wis. 43-30, Holdingford 53-21, Maple Grove 40-21 and Melrose. The Hornets topped Section 6AA rival Becker 36-33 and Royalton/USA 67-13. The Hornets claimed second place at the Buffalo duals with wins over Buffalo 41-27, Ellsworth, Wis. 61-3 and Alexandria 36-28. They dropped the final against Section 6AA foe Foley 43-25. Keith Lumley, Justin Haag and Nic Grecula were all 4-0 and Tee Baker, Aaron Stolp and Ben Brown were all 3-1 on the day. The Hornets topped Zimmerman 55-17 and Sartell 61-10.

11. The Bulldogs of Becker are still shaking the effects of their great football season. They dropped a Wright County Conference dual to Glencoe-Silver Lake 31-26. The Bulldogs claimed fourth place at their dual meet invitational with wins over Section 6AA foe Mora/Pine City 45-24 and St. Cloud Tech 41-26. They lost to Section 6AA rival Milaca 40-28 and the third match to a solid 3A Little Falls team 36-33 in a very good dual. Robert Koranda and Mike Hopkins were both 4-0 and Russ Lumley and Kevin O'Brien were both 3-1 to led the way for the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs split duals with Section 6AA rival Big Lake they lost 36-33 and they topped Royalton/USA 54-16 and Delano 64-0. The Bulldogs earned third place at the Belgrade tourney with 128.5 points and ten wrestlers placing in the top four. Robert Koranda captured a championship and Russ Lumley and Mike Hopkins both earned seconds. Four thirds by Josiah Lumley, Mike Rittenour, Cameron Rogers and Jeremy Nelson and three fourths by Carlos Patino, Kevin O'Brien and Emery Forsythe led the way for the Bulldogs.

12. The NLS Wildcats have had a very good start to their season with dual meet wins over KMS 30-29, Morris Area/Hancock 67-6 and LQPV 51-20. The Wildcats topped the field of teams at the Mora tourney with 163.5 points and eight wrestlers placing in the top four. Chad Henle and Adam Luberts claimed championships and Chris DeLong, Kyle Weinandt and Stephen Westby earned seconds and Craig Keller, Levi Schultz and Joe Stenzel all earned fourths.

CLASS AAA

1. The Flyers of Little Falls topped Central Lakes Conference foe Sartell 69-8. The Flyers earned third place at the Becker Duals with wins over St. Cloud Apollo 65-16, Becker J. V. 68-3 and for third place over Becker 36-33 in a very good dual. They lost a close one to (No. 7A) Atwater Cosmos Grove City 35-28. The Flyers had five unbeaten wrestlers including; Jason Brill, Randy Przybilla, Ted Wilczek, Josh Bue and Mike Lodermeier. Chris Roach was 3-1 on the day for the Flyers. The Flyers topped Central Lakes Conference foe Willmar 45-16. The Flyers topped former section 8AAA foe Fergus Falls 46-18, tied Wayzata 30-30 and lost to Litchfield 37-29. Chris Roach, Josh Bue and Aaron Olson were all 3-0 for the evening.

2. The Warriors of Brainerd topped Central Lakes Conference foes Rocori 45-14, Sartell 55-14 and Sauk Rapids in a very good dual 34-26. The Warriors had a very impressive performance at the "BIG BEAR CHRISTMAS TOURENY" with 122 points to earn sixth place with four place winners. Kyle Dukowitz earned second place, Tyler Jenson earned third place, Ryan McKay earned fourth place and Nate Rubin a fifth place. The Warriors dropped a dual to AA rival Aitkin 57-11. The Warriors claimed third place at the Cambridge tourney with 175 points and they had ten wrestlers place in the top four. Nick Lingwall captured the 112 pound weight class, Kyle Dukowitz and Josh Virnig both earned seconds and Andrew Wacsmuth, Nick Loreno,Adam Hahnert and Ryan McCay all took third and Nate Rubin, Mitch Yager both took fourth place.

3. The Cardinals of Willmar topped Central Lakes Conference foe St. Cloud Apollo 65-8 and Section 2AAA foe Hutchinson 39-18. They dropped a dual to Section 2AAA foe Minnetonka 30-28. The Cardinals scored 177 points to earn fourth place at the Dave Roder invitational at Montevideo. They had nine wrestlers place in the top four including one championship by Kyle Nelson a pair of seconds by Brandt Haglund and Mike Iliff. Tony Neuman and Ben Thonvold both earned thirds and Nick Braun, Drew Larson, Josh Dahlke and Jared Dahl all earned fourths for the Cardinals. They have missed a couple of their starters for these events and yet have had good showings. The Cards lost to Central Lakes Conference rival Little Falls 45-16. They did have a solid performance at "The Dam Site tourney" in Granite Falls with 163 points to earn fourth place. Tony Neuman won a championship and Peter Johnson, Kyle Nelson and Ben Thonvold all earned seconds. Brandon Reickman and Eric Anerand both claimed thirds and Martin Munoz, Drew Larson and Mike Illiff all earned fourth place.

4. The Cardinals of Alexandria topped Central Lakes Conference teams Sauk Rapids 37-30 and St. Cloud Apollo 51-21. They were 2-1 at the Ottertail Central Duals with wins over Osakis 45-29 and Hawley 62-6. They dropped a close dual to Class A power Frazee 35-30. The Cardinals topped Morris Area/Hancock 41-39, Ortonville 57-24 and they lost to Foley 36-24. The Cards were 2-2 at the Buffalo Duals with wins over Ellsworth, Wis. 54-18 and Buffalo 35-31. They dropped a close dual to Big Lake 36-28 and to Faribault 45-30. Cardinals that were 4-0 were Mike Kirscht 112, John Amundson 119 and Josh Betterman 103 Nate Kelly 125, Dan Kirscht 140, Chris Hobbs 145, Damon Bullock 215 were all 3-1.

5. The Storm of Sauk Rapids dropped two very close duals to Central Lakes Conference foes Brainerd 34-26 and to Alexandria 37-30. The Storm lost a very close dual to Central Lakes Conference foe 34-26. They topped Staples-Motley 40-30. The Storm had a very good showing at the Royalton tourney with 218 points and eleven wrestlers placing in the top four. The Storm captured five championships by Mike Hines, Mitch Stenger, Tyler Spiczka, Mitch Rau and Chris Allen. Zach Rudolph, Tony Foehrenbacker and Shane Fesenmier all earned seconds and Cody Parsons earn a third place and Wade Cruser and John Oemig were both fourth.

6. The Bison of Buffalo dropped duals to North Suburban Conference foes Spring Lake Park 39-37 and Monticello 37-35. The dropped a pair of Section 2AAA duals to Shakopee and Minnetonka. The Bison topped Chisago Lakes foe 51-20 and lost to AA power STMA 42-21. The Bison were 1-3 at their invite with a win over Ellsworth 39-33 and they lost to Big Lake 41-27, Alexandria 35-31 and to Mound View 41-27. Tyler Reiss (also won his 100th), Mike Christensen (won his 60th), Justin Franke were all 4-0 and Derek Klatt and Erik Rogness were both 3-1.

7. The Vikings of North Branch topped Rush City 43-28 and they lost to Spring Lake Park 41-27. The Vikings had a very good performance at the Forest Lake Duals by claiming third place with wins over Eden Prairie 39-29 and St. Paul Harding 59-13. The lost to a very good Forest Lake team 50-24. The Vikings despite missing their top two wrestlers topped the field of teams at the Tartan Tourney with 209.5 points, with ten wrestlers placing in the top four. Three Vikings captured championship; including Ryan Decoursey, Cody Gallmeier and Joe Loftboom. Cory Corwell and Cory Haley both earn seconds and Boyd Suparat, Greg Arnt, Zach Backus and Bill Oehlers all took thirds and Nick Brandt took fourth place.

8. The Tigers of St. Cloud Tech dropped Central Lakes duals to Rocori 35-31 and to St. Cloud Apollo 42-34. They topped non-conference foe Ogilvie 46-28. The Tigers claimed fifth place at the Becker duals with wins over Mora/Pine City 42-28 and Becker J. V. 55-18 They lost duals to Milaca 46-18 and to Becker 41-26. John Mailoux, Andy Johnston and Paul Denne were all 4-0 and Ryan Cameron, Nate Bertsch and Derek Orth were all 3-1 for the Tigers. The Tigers topped Section 8AAA foe Elk River 38-36 and they lost to Bemidji 34-12. They claimed fifth place at the Tartan Tourney with 139 points and eight place winners in the top four. Derrik Orth and Paul Denne both won championships and John Mailloux, Andy Johnston and Nat Bertsch all earned seconds and Eddie Boeck and Gile Henry both took fourths.

9. The Spuds lost duals to Barnesville 40-25, Detroit Lakes 49-19 and they defeated Crookston 41-27. The Spuds had two place winners at the "BIG BEAR TOURNEY" they were Jay Thoreson. Jay captured the 160 lbs. championship and Beau Tweeton earned fourth place. They scored 75 points to earn eighteenth place in the field of thirty three teams. The Spuds topped Crookston 41-27 and they lost to Detroit Lakes 49-19. They scored 133.5 points at the Casselton, ND tourney to earn six place in a field of twenty teams. Jay Thoreson, Bryan Rodriquez both won championships and Beau Tweeten earned second place and Brad Langberg earned a fifth place.

10. The Wildcats of Chisago Lakes topped St. Croix Falls, Wis. 35-31 and Rogers 40-12. They were 1-2 at the Lakeville duals they topped Henry Sibley 34-35 and lost to Lakeville 42-33 and Wayzata 57-13. Luke Anderson, Bobby Ferrier and Adam Gemuenden were all unbeaten. The Wildcats dropped duals to Buffalo 51-20, Monticello 48-19 and to STMA 76-0.

11. The Eagles of St. Cloud Apollo defeated St. Cloud Tech for the first time since 1983 42-34 and Ogilvie 54-24. The Eagles lost to Central Lakes Conference foe Alexandria 51-27 and to Monticello 54-21. The Eagles were 0-4 at the Becker Duals; dropping duals to Mora 40-35, ACGC 63-13, Little Falls 65-16 and Becker J. V. 57-23. Brett Scharmer and Mike Abrego were both 4-0 at the Becker Duals.

12. The Tigers of Princeton scored 67 points at the Andover tourney and they claimed the 145 lb championship by Matt Jensen. They dropped duals to Big Lake 61-15 and Maple Grove 60-16.
