Matousek breaks wins record

February 1, 2005

Glencoe-Silver Lake senior Nate Matousek won his 234th match in front of his home crowd tonight in Glencoe. The win came with a :29 pin against Alex Bohman of Mankato West. His total wins surpasses Minnesota's all-time high school career wins record of 233 held by Mitch Kuhlman of Medford since 2003.

Matousek commented that the record is great for his family and for all the people who have supported him but it's not what drives him. "This record's been in the back of my mind for a long time," said Matousek after his record-breaking win, "but I've always focused on the task of winning state championships."

Matousek, a two-time state champion, is 36-0 this season and is currently on a winning streak of 111 wins dating back to the 2002 Minnesota Christmas Tournament.
