Central Minnesota Mat Rats Report

Central Minnesota’s top Class A Teams
1. Pierz Pioneers
The Pioneers started the season with a solid performance at the Foley Duals with wins over the J. V. All Start 55-18, Cambridge 35-25 and over Paynesville to claim the championship 35-33. Kyle Girtz, Kyle Bednar, Jerron Boser and Clint Poster were all unbeaten at the tourney. The Pioneers had a very strong showing at the Paul Bunyan seventeen teams tourney by scoring 175.5 points to claim the championship over four highly ranked teams. Warren Gall and Kyle Girtz both won championships and Hank Virnig and Tanner Tetrick both earned third place. Kyle Bednar, Cody Luberts and Clint Poster all took fourth, Chuck Boser took sixth and Jerod Boser claimed seventh place.
2. Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City Falcons
The Falcons dominated a pretty solid field of teams at the their invitational by about 80 points over a traditionally strong St. James team. The Falcons had thirteen wrestlers place in the top three; which included four championships by Ben Meyer, Bill Wheeler, Nic Leither and Matt Leither. Six Falcons placed second; A. J. Frederiksen, Jeremy Anderson, John Hoeper, Matt Pearson and Josh Lies. Erick Larson, Eric Peterson and David Nelson all earned third place. The Falcons dominated West Central South Conference foe Montevideo 53-9.
3. New York Mills Eagles
The Eagles started their season with a very impressive showing at the Wahpeton tourney where they topped a field of fifteen teams. They edged out a very strong Frazee squad by 1.5 points. This field also included North Dakota’s No. 1 ranked team West Fargo. The Eagles had eight place winners including two championships by Jared Hotakainen and Jason Berg. Devlin Hessig and Matt Hagen earns seconds and Tyler Wegscheid, Luke Tervala and Jordan Novak all claim thirds and Brandon Marsh took fourth place. The Eagles topped No. 6A ranked Greenbush-Middle River-Badger 42-24.
4. Paynesville Bulldogs
The Bulldogs started their season with an outstanding performance at the Foley duals where they claimed second behind the defending state champions Pierz by a very narrow margin 35-33. The Bulldogs in the semifinals topped highly ranked AA Foley 30-25 and they crushed Rocori 53-19. Sean Glenz, Jordan Christian, Keith Klein, Joel Kerzman and Aaron Burris led the way with 3-0 marks on the day. In a West Central North Conference dual the Bulldogs topped Albany 49-19. The Bulldogs had a strong showing at the Wayzata going 2-1 to earn second place. They topped 3A Stillwater 48-23 and Cambridge-Isanti 38-37 before dropping the championship to No. 9 AAA ranked Wayzata 54-9. Joel Kerzman and Sean Glenz were named Co-Most Valuable Wrestler of the tourney. Keith Klein and Kevin Klein also were unbeaten at the Wayzata tourney.
5. Aitkin Gobblers
The Gobblers had a very strong start to their season; however they dropped a pair of duals to (ratings at the time) No. 2AA ranked Little Falls 36-30 and to No. 3AA Milaca 30-27. The Gobblers crushed Great River Conference foe Mille Lacs 62-9.
6. Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines
The Wolverines had a very solid start to their season with a strong showing at their invitational by earning third place with 155 points. This was behind No. 2AA ranked Perham and No. 6A ranked Greenbush-Middle River-Badger. The Wolverines had eight place winners including four runner ups; Tim Richards, Kevin Trout, Tanner Rentz and Tony Wegscheid. Shawn Beverslius and Trey VanOrsdel both earned thirds. Kenny Steffens and Darren Folskestad were both fourth. The Wolverines had impressive wins over Detroit Lakes 38-33, PLPRB 43-27 and Crosby-Ironton 54-23. The Wolverines earned second place at the Park Rapids duals with wins over Deer River 51-24 and Blackduck-Cass Lake-Bena 51-16. They dropped a very close dual in the championship to Hibbing 41-35. Shawn Beversluis, Ian Carlstrom, Kenny Steffens, Trey VanOrsdel, Tanner Rentz and Tony Wegscheid were all unbeaten on the day.
7. Eden Valley-Watkins Eagles
The Eagles have had a slow start due to their football season; because of their State Football Championship. Congratulations Eagles on a very impressive playoff run!
The Eagles scored 96 points to earn 6th place at the Belgrade Brooten Elrosa tourney despite missing at least five starters. Nick Peterson and Ryan Sullivan both claimed championships and Heath Kramer, Jesse Garavia and Mike Sullivan all earned thirds. Jacob Forcier and Darren Berg both took fourth place. The following day the Eagles competed at the ACGC tourney where they have five place winners; including Nick Peterson second, Ryan Sullivan third and three fourths by Mike Sullivan, Jesse Saravia and Heath Kramer. The Eagles had an impressive showing at the Willmar tourney with 214 points and eleven wrestlers placed in the top four to win the championship. They claimed four championships by Ryan Sullivan, Nick Peterson, Philip Magedanz and Raymen Rice. Earning seconds for the Eagles were Chris Faber, Heath Kramer, Paul Stommes and Luke Stommes. Adam Hiltner earned third place and Mike Sullivan and Jacob Forcier both took fourth place.
8. Bertha Hewitt/Verndale Raiders
The Raiders had a slow start to their season at the tough Wadena tourney where they finished sixth with 104 points. Ethan Kern won the lone championship for the Raiders, Aaron Moenkedick earned second place. Sam Moenkedick claimed third place and Jasper Oyster took fourth place.
9. Wheaton/Herman-Norcross Bullets
The Bullets had a solid start to their season at the tough Wahpeton tourney with a 113 points to earn sixth place. Brady Sykora and Nate Mord were both runner-ups and Shane Fickes and Brett Lennox both earned fourths. The Bullets topped Dawson-Boyd in a very good dual 35-32 and Pelican Rapids 36-33. They were 1-3 in duals at the Barnesville Duals with a win over Lake Park 74-3. They dropped duals to Detroit Lakes 48-29, Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton 42-32 and Barnesville 45-24.
10. Yellow Medicine East Sting
The Sting had a very solid start to their season by scoring 142.5 points to claim third at the BLH/BOLD invitational. The Sting had ten wrestlers place in the top four; including one championship by Matt Williams and four seconds by Tom Jacobson, Austin Cole, Jordan Stock and Wyatt Sand. The Sting had a pair of thirds by Tanner Aus and Spenser Sannerud and a pair of fourths by Nick Rolfing and Jordan Gaffney. The Sting topped former Section 3AA foe Marshall 47-10. The Sting topped LQPV in West Central South Conference action. They had a strong showing at the Willmar tourney with 193. 5 points. The Sting won four championships by Matt Williams, Jordan Stock, Austin Cole and Tanner Aus. Five thirds were earned by Justin Tongen, Tim Palm, Landen Cole, Casey Field and Nick Rolfing. Jordan Saffaner, Spenser Sannerud and Wyatt Sand all took fourth place.
11. Breckenridge Cowboys
The Cowboys had a solid performance at the tough Wahpeton tourney with 100 points to claim tenth in a field of 15 teams. Spencer Beech earned second place, Andy VanHecke earn third place and Jake Owens claimed fourth place. The Cowboys had two impressive wins over Osakis 39-25 and West Central Area 52-14.
Six place winners at the seventeen team Paul Bunyan tourney for the Cowboys including third place Spencer Beech, a pair of fifths by Seth Klostreich and Tyler Ascheman. The Cowboys had three sixths by Andy VanHecke, Jake Ownes and Luke Poppel in a strong showing at a very good tourney.
12. Osakis Silverstreaks
The Silverstreaks had a very impressive opening performance at the Melrose tourney by scoring 178.5 points to claim third place. They had eleven place winners including two championships by Jordan Trisco and Grant Allen. The Silverstreaks had a trio of seconds by Eric Weiner, Clinton Weiner and Brett Joarntt and a trio of thirds by Derek Waldvogel, Matt Czarvin and Derek Waldvogel. Justin Johnson, Jared Lamm and Wendell Larson all earn fourth places. They topped former section 7A foe West Central Area 51-20 and lost to Breckendridge 39-25. Despite missing two of their best wrestlers for the invite; where they could have very possibly won the Melrose tourney. The Silverstreaks crushed Section 6A foe Mile Lacs 54-24.
Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg Fighting Saints
The Fighting Saints had a very solid start to their season by scoring 181. 5 points to claim second place at the Melrose tourney. The won four championships by Kevin Steinhaus, Tyler Carlson, Spencer Almen and Chris Braaten. The Fighting Saints had one second by Alex Bauer a pair of thirds by Brad Kneisl and Mitchell Hagen and on fourth by Joel Bauman. The Fighting Saints topped Section 4A foe MACCRAY 58-9. They placed ten wrestlers in the top four to earn fourth place with 148.5 points at the Willmar tourney. Kevin Steinhaus led the way with a championship and four thirds by Brad Kneisl, Chris Braaten, Tyler Carlson and Spencer Almen. Alex Baker, Jacob Engler, Aaron Zimmer, Jeremy Peterson and Cody Kinney all earned fourths.
Central Minneota’s top Class AATeams
1. Saint Michael-Albertville Knights
The Knights started their season by crushing their foes at their invitational with 287 points. The Kngihts won seven championships by Mike Thorn, Joe Grygelko, Chad Little, Alex Becker, Dan Greeno, Andy Hackenmueller and David Thorn. They had three seconds by Steve Hagland, Andy Sapinski and Mickey Kirk and four thirds by Kyle Schumm, Matt Nerdahl, Jon Laudner and Kurt Schumm. The Knights crushed two AAA foes at the Coon Rapids duals to claim the championship. They defeated White Bear Lake 59-9 and Coon Rapids 48-9. They crushed Mississippi 8 foe Rogers 84-0 and Orono in non-conference action 72-6.
2. BOLD/Buffalo Lake Hector Warriors
The Warriors started their season with a solid win over Section 5AA rival Dassel-Cokato 44-22. The Warriors dominated their invitational with 175 points to claim the championship; including a pair of championships by Tom Elfering and Jon Kramer. They Warriors had five seconds by Mark Revier, Cole Neubauer, Chris Harmon, Ross Neubauer, and Ben Aaseth. They earned four thirds by Cody Hatch, Mark Petig, Brain Hagen and Zach Kopel and a fourth by Tom Brenner. The Warriors topped No. 9A ranked Lake Crystal Welcome Memorial 44-21. Eleven wrestlers earned places at the Paul Bunyan tourney to led the Warriors to a third place finish with 163.5 points just twelve points behind the leader and 1.5 points behind the second place team. Ben Aaseth and Mark Pietig both earned seconds, Brian Hagen took third place and Pat LeVasseur, Ross Neubauer and Tom Elfering all earned fourth place. Mark Revier, John Kramer, and Cole Neubauer all took fifths, Zach Kopel took sixth and Chris Harmon took seventh place.
3. Milaca Wolves
The Wolves started their season with a strong performance by topping then No. 2AA ranked Little Falls 42-31 and No. 12A ranked Aitkin 30-27. The following day they went 3-1 at the Waconia duals with wins over Waconia 56-17, Maple Grove 70-6 and Orono 73-0. They did drop their final match No. 9AAA ranked Wayzata 40-28. Steven Vetters, Dan Crain, Cody Krogt were all unbeaten at Waconia and Andy Peterson, Carter Ash, Denver Rogalia, David Fradette, Nick Kragt, Torin Erickson, Zach Majerus and Josh Dangers were all 3-1 on the day. The Wolves lost to the 4AAA ranked St. Francis 45-15. The Wolves won their dual meet invitational with huge wins over Mound-Westonka 73-0 and Albany 60-14. In the Championship a rematch from last year the Wolves topped Litchfield 37-17. The Wolves had nine wrestlers go unbeaten at the tourney; Denver Rogalla, David Fradette, Chad Weyer, Chris Kragt, Cody Kragt, Torin Erickson, Steve Vedders, Zach Majerus and Andy Peterson.
4. Little Falls Flyers
The Flyers started their season with then No. 3AA ranked Milaca and they dropped a tough dual 42-31 and they topped No. 12A ranked Aitkin 36-30. The Flyers earned second place at the 12 team dual meet tourney in Monticello. They topped Hutchinson 39-33, Big Lake 36-28, North Branch 61-15 before dropping the championship match to No. 4AAA St. Francis 38-29. Troy Biermaier was unbeaten at Monticello and Mike Lodermeier, Sam Marcus, Ted Wilczek, Josh Bue and Randy Pryzybilla were all 3-1 on the day. The Flyers crushed Central Lakes Conference foe Rocori 63-10. The St. Francis match could have been closer had they not been missing Chris Roach. The Flyers scored 161.5 points to earn fourth place at the Paul Bunyan tourney. Nine place winners led the way with Mike Lodermeier and Jason Brill both earning seconds. Sam Marcus, Ted Wilczek, Randy Przybilla and Troy Biermaier all earned thirds and Josh Broshong took sixth place and Josh and Dylan Bue both took seventh place.
5. Foley Falcons
The Falcons claimed third place at their dual meet invitational with wins over Parkers Prairie 68-6 and Cambridge-Isanti 35-23, They lost a close one to No. 5A ranked Paynesville in the semifinals 30-25. Jacob Bowland, Luke Young and Brandon Seppelt were all unbeaten at the tourney. The Falcons topped AAA foes Brainerd 54-17 and Tech 55-14. The Falcons had a very strong showing at the Paul Bunyan tourney. This tourney features several ranked teams and a large number of individuals that are ranked. They scored 165 points just 3.5 in front of the fourth place team, in what was a very close tourney with the top four teams. The Falcons had nine place winners including a championship by Jared Freudenberg and four seconds by Brandon Seppelt, Jake Bowland, Mike Fouquette and Zach LaVigne. Luke Young earned third place, Adam Messer and Josh Gondeck both earn fifths and Josh Seppelt was sixth.
6. Big Lake Hornets
The Hornets started their season with a very impressive showing by claiming third place at the 12 team dual meet tourney in Monticello. They topped Albany 56-13, Sauk Rapids 48-18 and Minnewaska 39-36. They dropped the semifinal match to No. 4AA ranked Little Falls 36-28. Justin Nelson, Dan Brown, Ben Brown, Aaron Stolp, Justin Haag and Aaron Mevissen were all unbeaten and Matt Nelson was 3-1.
The Hornets crushed Melrose and Holdingford in non-conference action. They scored 204.5 points at their invitational to edge Monticello by 3.5 points for the championship. Eleven wrestlers placed in the top four including three championships by Justin Nelson, Justin Haag and Ben Brown. Aaron Stolp and Tyler Sonestahl earned second place and Tee Baker, Casey Kern, Aaron Mevissen and Adnre Bradley all took third place. Earning fourth places for the Hornets were Dan Brown and Matt Nelson.
7. Minnewaska Lakers
The Lakers had a good showing at the 12 team Monticello dual meet tourney by earning fourth place with wins over Annadale/Maple Lake 30-27 and Monticello 37-30. They dropped their semifinal match to No. 4AAA ranked St. Francis 50-19 and the third place match to Big Lake 39-36. Trevor Larson and Dan Braaten were both 4-0 and Alan Lutterman was 3-1 on the day. The Lakers topped West Central Conference foe and rival Sauk Centre 49-19. The Lakers scored 176.5 points to claim third place at the Willmar tourney. They had seven wrestlers placing in the top four including four championships by Trevor Larson, Alan Lutterman, Sam Goracke and Colin Cihlar. Both Jon Tatro and Dan Braaten earned second place and David Bond took fourth place.
8. Becker Bulldogs
The Bulldogs slowed a little by the huge success in football, congratulations to the Bulldogs on their first state football championship. The Bulldogs started their season at the Foley duals with wins over Rocori 48-24 and the JV All Stars 40-27. They did drop their dual to a very good Cambridge-Isanti team 50-17. Robert Koranda, Kevin O’Brien and Russ Lumley were unbeaten on the day. The Bulldogs had eight place winners at the Paul Bunyan tourney with eight wrestlers placing to earn seventh place in a field of seventeen teams with 128.5 points. One championship by Robert Koranda (100th Career Victory in the first round) and Russ Lumley earned second place. Riley Holub and Mike Rittenour were both fourth, Brady Schrupp and Kevin O’Brien both took fifths. Kyle Andres earned sixth place and Corey Immerman took seventh place.
9. Litchfield Dragons
The Dragons started their season with a strong performance at their own invitational by earning second place with 183 points. They were beaten by the No. 7AAA ranked Anoka. They had eight wrestlers place in the top four including two championships by Beau Penk and Jeremy Forster. Jared flemming earned second place and a pair of thirds by Damian Heaviet and John Binsfield. The Dragons Tanner Sittig and Blayne Johnson both claimed fourths. They earned second place at the Milaca duals with big wins over Braham 54-21 and Elk River 54-22. The Dragons lost to Milaca in the championship 37-17. Beau Penk and Damian Heuriet were both unbeaten at the tourney.
10. Annandale/Maple Lake Lightning
The Lightning had a good showing at the Monticello duals with wins over Monticello 42-22 and Sauk Rapids 37-27. The did drop two very close duals to Minnewaska 30-27 and New Ulm 39-24. Ben Anderson was unbeaten and Pete Nordlie and Brad Salveson were both 3-1 on the day. The Cardinals topped Mound-Westonka in Wright County Conference action 56-12 and they defeated highly ranked Wayzata 33-24. The Lighting scored 80 points at the St. Francis Invitational to earn fifth place. They had six wrestlers place in the top four including Ben Anderson took second, Chris Bergmann and Chase Swenson both took third and Joe and Pete Nordlie and Ben Hylla all earned fourths.
11. New London-Spicer Wildcats
The Wildcats had a strong showing at the Belgrade Brooten Elrosa tourney by scoring 167 points to claim the championship. With eleven wrestlers placing in the top four including three championships by Stephen Westby (Outstanding Wrestler), Chad Henle and Adam Luberts. Brandon Keller and Levi Schultz both earned seconds and Billy Dean, Luke Reiter and Colin Ruter all earned thirds. Placing fourth for the Wildcats were Paul Peterson, Chris DeLong and John Nething. The Wildcats topped West Central North Conference foe Long Prairie Grey Eagle 46-29. They scored 197.5 points to earn third place at the Fargo South Invitational; including three championships by Stephen Westby, Adam Lubertz and Billy Dean. Chad Henle earned second place, Levi Schultz, Chris DeLong, Luke Reiter and Andrew Blonker all took fourths.
12. Fergus Falls Otters
The Otters had a very good showing at the Wahpeton tourney with 124 points to claim fifth place out of fifteen teams including one championship by Justin Hensch. The Otters had three wrestlers earn third places by D. J. Ringquist, Charlie Revering and Karl Haataja and a pair of fourths by Mike Swenson and Dan Revering. The Otters topped rival Ottertail Central 48-27 and Central Lakes Conference foe Sartell 54-21. The Otters took third place with 130 points at the Grant County invitational with eight wrestlers placing in the top four including one championship by Karl Haataja. Justin Hensch, Dan Ringquist and Andrew Lee all earned seconds, Charlie Revering, Billy Oehler and Drew Ross all took third and Dan Revering took fourth place.
Montevideo Thunder Hawks
The Thunder Hawks had a good showing with 187 points and the championship at the Melrose tourney; including three championships by Tony Klosterboer, Gage Halverson and Todd Wald (Todd was the Outstanding Wrestler). The earned a three of seconds by James Galleghar, Tim Macziewski and John Anderson. The Thunder Hawks earned three fourths by Pat Gerads, Zach Weckwerth and Tyler Kanton. They scored 175 points at the Shakopee tourney to earn third place with nine wrestlers placing in the top four; including championships by Gage Halvorson and Tallen Wald. Tony Klosterboer, Jordan Baldwin and James Gallagher all earned seconds and Sam Aalfs took third place and Zach Wechwerth, Collin Krueger and Tyler Kanten all took fourth places.
Howard Lake Waverly/Lester Prairie Scorpions
The Scorpions earned third place at their own invitational with 137 points with ten wrestlers placing in the top four; including one championship by Tyler Kloss. Taking seconds were Steve Bobrowske, Harrison Kusske, Clark Ostvig and Jason Latzke and John Long, Mychal Penaz and Cameron Lehner all took third place. Tony Horstmann earned foruth place for the Scorpions. In a solid performance they earned second place with 195 points at the Shakopee tourney. The Scorpions won four championships by Shane Khane, Alex Schlueter, Tyler Kloss and Jason Latzke. Clark Ostvig, Steve Bobrowske and Mychal Penz all earned seconds and Tony Horstmann and Eric Arlen both took fourth places.
Central Minneota’s top Class AAATeams
1. Cambridge-Isanti Bluejackets topped three foes at the White Bear Lake Quadrangular. They topped White Bear Lake 30-26, Hibbing 43-25 and Elk River 53-13. The Bluejackets claimed fourth place at the Foley duals with a win over Becker 50-17. They lost the semifinal match to No. 1A ranked Pierz 35-25 and the third place match to No. 7AA ranked Foley 35-23. Alex Geving, Carl Richard, Matt O’Connor and Forrest Becklin were all unbeaten for the Bluejackets on the day. In Mississippi 8 Conference action they defeated Monticello 39-21. The Bluejackets took third place at the Wayzata duals with wins over Stillwater 58-15 and Watertown 40-20. They lost a very close dual in the semifinals to Paynesville 38-37. Carl Richard, Ross Dankers, Matt O'Connor, Josh Olson were all unbeaten at the Wayzata duals.
2. Sauk Rapids Storm
The Storm had a solid showing at the Monticello 12 team dual tourney. They topped Albany 49-21 and drop a pair of close duals to Hutchinson 37-34 and Annandale/Maple 27. They did drop dual to the third place team Big Lake 48-18. Wes Voigt and Shane Fessenmair were both unbeaten and Tyler Spiczka, Evan Warnert, John Omeig and Spencer Braun were all 3-1 on the day. The Storm topped Central Lakes Conference foe St. Cloud Apollo 58-10 and non-conference foe Braham 39-24. The Storm had a good showing at the large Paul Bunyan tourney with 109 points to earn tenth place; including ten place winners. Wes Voigt, John Omeig and Evan Warnert all earned fourth place and Mitch Rau and Paul Borresch both earned sixth place. Tyler Spiczka and Mike Hines both took seventh place and Derek Anders, Shane Fessenmaier and Blake Cruser all took eight place.
3. Brainerd Warriors
The Warriors had a solid showing at the 12 team Blue Earth tourney with 145 points to earn fourth place. They won two championships Tyler Jenson and Ryan McKay and Nick Loreno, Nick Lingwall and Jake Patnode all earned seconds. Andrew Wachsmuth and Mitch Yager both earn seconds for the Warriors. The Warriors topped Central Lakes Conference foes St. Cloud Tech 49-25 and Alexandria 32-31 and lost to the No. 7AA ranked Foley 54-17. The Warriors scored 109 points at their huge invitational tourney to earn eighth place. They had six place winners including three championships by Tyler Jensen, Ryan McKay and Nick Lingwall. Nick Loreno took fourth place, Jake Patnode took sixth place and Mitch Yager took seventh place.
4. Monticello Magic
The Magic had a very good showing at their 12 team dual meet tourney where they topped North Branch 57-15 and Albany 57-22. They lost to Minnewaska in a very good dual 37-30 and to Annandale/Maple Lake 42-22. Mike Land, Randy Ascher and Nick Fessenden were all unbeaten and Ben Schwart, Justin Davis, Glen Belde and Tylor Johnson were all 3-1 on the day. The Magic lost a Mississippi 8 Conference dual to Cambridge-Isanti 39-21. The Magic had a great performance at the Big Lake tourney by scoring 201 points to finish just 3.5 points out of first place. The Magic had eleven wrestlers in the top three places including three championships by Brandon Henry, Justin Davis and Joe Mangas. Joe Mangas won the Fall award with 3 falls in 6:05. Tyler Johnson, Nick Fessenden and Josh Kohler all earned seconds and Randy Ascher, Spencer Lanners, Ben Schwartz, Mike Land and Glen Belde all earned third place.
5. Willmar Cardinals
The Cardinals scored 99.5 points at the ACGC invitational to claim fourth place. Brand Haglund and Drew Larson won championships and Trent Molacek earn a second place. Jesse Alonzo and Eric Borgos both took third and Brady Gilb and Nick Braun both claimed fourth. The Cardinals topped Central Lakes Conference foe Alexandria 35-34. The Cardinals scored 133 points at their invitational to earn fifth place with seven wrestlers placing in the top four including one championship Brandt Haglund. Drew Larson, Jesse Alonzo and Eric Borgas all earned second; Brady Gilb and Trent Molacek both took third; Brandon Reickman took fourth place.
6. Alexandria Cardinals
The Cardinals had a strong showing at the Litchfield tourney 141 points to claim fourth place. The Cards had five wrestlers place in the top four including a pair of champions; John Amundson and Tanner Weltzin. Brett Ripley earn a second place, Nate Kelly a third place and Chris Hobbs took fourth. The Cardinal did drop a Central Lakes Conference duals to Willmar 35-34 and Brainerd 32-31. The Cardinals had a very good showing at the twelve team Grant County tourney with 163.5 points to claim second place. The Cards won three championships by John Amundson, Tanner Weltzin and Dave Kirscht and a pair of seconds by Brett Ripley and Chris Hobbs. Josh Betterman, Nate Kelly and Tom Bouressa all took third and Mike Kirscht earn fourth place.
7. Moorhead Spuds
The Spuds had a strong showing at the Saint Michael-Albertville tourney by scoring 138.5 points to claim third place. The Spuds won two championships by Jay Thoreson and Justin Phillippi and Justin LaValie earned a second place. Matt Langeberg, Justin Lee and Luke Tweten all took thirds and Jake Handegard earn a fourth place. The Spuds had a very impressive showing at the Fargo South tourney with 210.5 points to earn second place including three championships by Justin Phillippi (Outstanding Wrestler), Jay thoreson and Justin LaValle. Luke Tweeten, Justin Lee and Sean Willert all earned seconds and Matt Langeberg and Derek Osland both took fourth.
8. Buffalo Bison
The Bison of had a very solid showing at the Osseo tourney by scoring 171 points to earn second place including two championships by Derek Klatt and Eric Rogness. Justin Franke and David Baker both took seconds, Tim Ruter and Omar Salguero both were third and Danny Maghrak and Matt Jeska both earned fourths. The Bison topped former North Suburban foe Spring Lake Park 52-12. They had a good showing at the Chaska tourney by with 160 points to earn third place; including one championship by Derek Klatt. Erik Rogness, Tim Ruter, David Baker, Matt Jeska and Omar Salguero all earned seconds. Danny Maghrak and Brandon Ordorff took third and Carter Vogt earned a fourth place.
9. Chisago Lakes Wildcats
The Wildcats topped Totino Grace in a huge North Suburban Conference dual 39-35. They topped Somerset, Wis. at their dual meet tourney 39-29 and lost close duals to Blaine 39-36 and Kenyon Wanamingo 39-26. They lost to rival Forest Lake 65-9. Brian Jones and Bobby Ferrier were both unbeaten in the tourney. The Wildcats scored 117 points at the Prior Lake tourney to earned fourth place; including one championship by Bobby Ferrier. Chad Stenson, JohnHogle, Kelly Kowalekna all took thirds and Mike Welle claimed fourth place.
10. St. Cloud Apollo Eagles
The Eagles went 0-4 at the tough 12 team dual meet tourney at Monticello with losses to North Branch 47-30, Albany 41-36, New Ulm 41-29 and St. Francis 64-15. Despite those four losses the Eagles had an impressive showing with Justin Pulliam going unbeaten and Cam Jacobson, Brett Scharmer, Mike Abrego and Matt Spoden all going 3-1 on the day. The Eagles topped Braham 39-34 and they lost a Central Lakes Conference dual to Sauk Rapids 58-10. The Eagles had an impressive showing at the Big Lake tourney with 142 points to earned fourth place just a half of point behind the third place team. The Eagles won two championships by Brett Scharmer and Cam Jacobson; Cam was named outstanding wrestler for his effort. Justin Pulliam, Matt Spoden and Mike Abrego all earned seconds and Nick Paquin earned fourth place.
11. North Branch Vikings
The Vikings topped MCCA 46-33, Princeton 54-27 and Irondale in opening dual meet action. At the tough 12 team Monticello duals the Vikings topped St. Cloud Apollo 47-30 and they lost to Hutchinson 55-21, Little Fall 61-15, Monticello 57-15. Boyd Suparat was unbeaten at the Monticello duals. The Vikings scored 125 points to earn fifth place at the Big Lake tourney. Boyd Suparat, Matt Newham and Erik Kostilk all were earned seconds and Corey Crowell took fourth place.
12. St. Cloud Tech Tigers
The Tigers scored 64.5 points at the STMA invitational with four wrestlers placing in the top four; Ryan Cameron claimed second place, Andy Johnston and Siles Henry both earned thirds and Chris Hoppe finnish in fouth place. The Tigers dropped a Central Lakes Conference dual to Brainerd 49-25 and to No. 7AA Foley 55-14. The Tigers scored 35 points at the Paul Bunyan tourney with three place winners including Andy Johnston was third, Ryan Cameron was seventh and Pete Kalla was eight.
