Central Minnesota Mat Rats Report

CLASS AA REPORT
1. Saint Michael-Albertville Knights
The Knights turned in a very outstanding performance by topping the field of nearly 30 teams at the Christmas tourney in Rochester. With eight place winners they topped runner up Anoka by 37 points. The brothers Mike and David Thorn both won championships and Dan Greeno and Joe Grygelko both earned seconds. Chad Little battled back to earn third place and Tom Duncombe also earned sixth place. Kurt Schumm and Alex Becker both claim eighth place. The Knights earned second place in Division 2 at the “The Clash” in Rochester among a field of 32 teams. This is the top dual meet tourney in the United States with many nationally ranked teams and many state ranked individuals. The Knights topped Omaha Burk from Nebraska 37 to 24 and Simley 40-22. They dropped a very tough dual to Glenbard North out of Illinois; No. 3 ranked; 31-23. This placed the Knights in Division 2 for the second day of action where they topped No. 1 AAA ranked Albert Lea 28-21 and Kalispell High School of Flathead, Montana; No. 2 Ranked; 43-16. Then the Knights took on Apple Valley, they battled to a tied 28-28 and Valley won one more match, so they were declared the winner. There was a great deal of controversy that was involved with this match. Mike Thorn and Matt Nerdahl were both unbeaten and Mike Thorn was named to the All-Tourney team. Joe Grygelko was 5-1 (questionable) and Steve Hagland and Chad Little were both 4-1. The Knight topped Mississippi 8 foe Becker 55-15. The Knights had four varsity regulars participate in the Mora tourney along with their Junior Varsity wrestlers. The Knights scored 175.5 points to earn second place with ten wrestlers placing in the top four. Ross Lefebvre, Austin Kolles and Kurt Schumm all claimed championships and Any Hackenmueller and Kyle Schumm both earned seconds. Jake Horn, took third place and Brain Zachman, Kyle Gammell, Kyle Hackenmueller and Jesse Dehmer all took fourth place.
2. Milaca Wolves
The Wolves topped Monticello in dual meet action 46-15 and Sartell 75-6. They did drop a very well wrestled to dual to No. 1A ranked Pierz 28-24. The Wolves earned third place at the Becker duals with a win over section rival Becker 49-15 before dropping a very tight dual to No. 5A ranked Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City 32-28 in the semifinals. They topped Sauk Rapids 44-15 in the third place dual. Cody Kragt, Dan Crain, Steve Vedders, Carter Ash, Andy Peterson and Dennis Taute were all 3-0 on the day. The Wolves topped highly ranked Perham 38-18 and section foe Rocori 51-13.
3. Little Falls Flyers
The Flyers topped Central Lakes foes in dual meet action Fergus Falls 58-16 and Sartell 78-6. The Flyers topped former section rival Bemidji 34-24 and lost to highly ranked AAA Forest Lake 40-30. The Flyers topped their neighbor Long Prairie-Grey Eagle 53-15. The Flyers topped highly ranked BOLD 40-25 and Litchfield 41-19 before dropping a close dual to rival Pierz 33-25. Jason Brill, Ted Wilczek and Chris Roach were all unbeaten at the quadrangular.
4. BOLD/Buffalo Lake Hector Warriors
The Warriors topped West Central South Conference foes Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City in an excellent dual 26-21 and LQPV 42-27. The Warriors claimed the championship at the Maple River tourney with 190 points to top section foe Litchfield. They had eleven wrestlers in the top three with four champions including Chris Harmon, Tom Elfering, Mark Pietig and Ben Aaseth. Earning seconds were Pat LeVasseur and Tom Brenner. The Warriors had five wrestlers earn third places; Ross Neubauer, Cole Neubauer, Jon Kramer, Brian Hagen and Brent Christianson. They also defeated Sibley East 34-22. At the Morris quadrangular the Warriors topped West Central South Conference foe Morris Area/Hancock 36-18, Breckenridge 45-17 and St. Peter 59-15. Chris Harmon won all three of his matches. The Warriors topped section rival Litchfield 27-25 at the Little Falls quadrangular and they lost to highly ranked Little Falls 40-25 and No. 1A ranked Pierz 42-18. Pat LaVassuer was the lone Warrior to go unbeaten during the quadrangular.
5. Foley Falcons
The Falcons dropped a pair of duals to top ranked AAA teams St. Francis 30-25 and Anoka 34-25. They did top Sauk Rapids 34-25 and section foe Zimmerman. The Falcons topped the field of teams at the Buffalo duals with wins over Buffalo 40-14, Alexandria 34-30, Faribault 47-25 and in the championship match they topped section rival Big Lake 45-18. The Falcons used twenty-three varsity wrestlers during the day. Jordan Linn, Jared Freudenburg and Cory Foss were all unbeaten at the Buffalo Duals.
6. Big Lake Hornets
The Hornets in dual meet action topped Mississippi 8 foe Buffalo 39-21, Annandale-Maple Lake 34-30 and Kimball 65-12. The Hornets topped Princeton and Rush City in dual meet action. They claimed second at the Buffalo duals with wins over St. Cloud Tech 52-22, Ellesworth, Wis 65-7 and Mounds View 54-12 before dropping the championship dual to section foe Foley 45-18. Aaron Stolp, Justin Haag and Tee Baker were all 4-0 at the duals.
7. Litchfield Dragons
The Dragons in dual meet action topped section foe Glencoe-Silver Lake 42-33, Waseca 42-21 and Plainville-Elgin-Millville 42-23. The Dragons finished eight points behind section rival BOLD at the Maple River tourney with 182 points. The Dragons had eleven wrestlers place in the top four with three championships by Beau Penk, Reed Wimmer and Dan Klapotz. Earning second place was Damian Heariet and earning a pair of thirds were Jared Flemming and David Malepsy. They had five wrestlers claim fourth place by: Mike Kaping, Dustin Celandar, John Binsfield, Brandon Skalberg and Tony Gutormson. The Dragons topped Wright County Conference foe Mound-Westonka 66-6. The Dragons dropped duals to Little Falls 41-19, Pierz 46-11 and to section rival BOLD 27-25 in a very good dual meet. Beau Penk was the lone Dragon to go unbeaten at the quadrangular.
8. Annandale/Maple Lake Lightning
The Lightning in dual meet action topped section foe Waconia 40-25 and Kimbal 54-9. They did lose a very close dual to Big Lake 34-30, despite missing a couple of their starters. The Lightning topped section foes Glencoe-Silver Lake 37-24 and Rockford 77-0. The Lightning had a very strong showing at the Mora tourney with 193 points to earn the championship. They had eleven wrestlers place in the top four including three championships by Ben Anderson, Tyler Wadman and Brad Salveson. Jake Anderson, Kyle Erickson and Joe Puncochar all earned seconds; and Chase Swenson earned third place. Alex Couette, Pete Nordlie, Joe Nordlie and Ben Hylla all took fourth place.
9. Minnewaska Lakers
The Lakers earned second place at the Ottertail Central Duals with wins over OTC 57-18 and Hawley 75-6. The Lakers dropped a dual to No. 4A ranked Frazee 49-19. Alan Luterman, Trevor Larson, Jon Totro and Cam Schafer won all three of their matches at the tourney. The Lakers topped the field of teams at the Benson tourney with 242.5 points; with ten wrestlers placing in the top four. Six championships were won by the Lakers including Sam Goracke, Colin Cihlar, Trevor Larson, Dan Braaten, Jon Tatro and Alan Erickson. Alan Lutterman, David Bond and Collin Jergenson all earned seconds and Cam Schafer took fourth place.
10. Becker Bulldogs
The Bulldogs in dual meet action topped Sauk Rapids 36-28 and Willmar 50-22. In quadrangular action at Dassel Cokato they topped DC 43-23, New Prague 35-31 and Rocori 38-33. The Bulldogs earned fifth place at their dual meet invitational with wins over St. Cloud Tech. 57-13 and Blaine 42-24. They dropped their quarterfinal match with section foe Milaca 49-15. Robert Koranda won all his matches at the tourney. The Bulldogs dropped a Mississippi 8 dual to topped ranked 2AA St. Michael-Albertville 55-15. The Bulldogs earned second place at the Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa Tourney with 139.5 points. Robert Koranda and Russ Lumley both won championships and Brady Schrupp, Riley Holub and Corey Immerman all earned seconds. Earning third places were Mike Rittnour and Kyle Andres and Kevin O’Brien, Ben Jones and James Garner all took fourth place.
11. Fergus Falls Otters
The Otters in Central Lakes Conference action topped Rocori 34-32; this was Coach Aho’s 100th career coaching win. They dropped a dual to Central Lakes foe Little Falls 58-16 and Frazee 44-15. The Otters scored 91 points to claim fourteenth place at the 33 team event the Big Bear. Karl Haataja led the way with a hard fought third place finish, Charlie Revering earned sixth place and Mike Swenson and Justin Hensch both took seventh place. The Otters lost a Central Lakes Conference dual to Alexandria 47-20.
12. Howard Lake-Waverly/Lester Prairie Scorpions
The Scorpions topped section foe Glencoe-Silver Lake 38-28 and St. Peter 45-21 before dropping a dual to Sibley East 36-21 in quadrangular action. Shane Kahn, Jason Latzke, Steve Bobrowke, Alex Schlueter and Tyler Kloss all were 3-0 at the quadrangular. The Scorpions took second place at the Norwood Young America tourney with 182 points and eight wrestles placing in the top four. They won five championships by Jason Latzke, Mychal Penaz, Tyler Kloos, Alex Schlueter and Shane Khan.
CLASS AAA REPORT
1. Cambridge-Isanti Bluejackets
The Bluejackets in dual meet action topped Chisago Lakes 55-15 and Champlin Park 52-22. They lost to section rival St. Francis in dual meet action 43-27. The Bluejackets scored 56 points at the Christmas tourney with one place winner; Matt O’Conner earned fifth place. The Bluejackets topped Mississippi 8 foe Rogers 77-0. They had a great performance at their invitational with 212 points and with ten wrestlers placing in the top three. Sam Watson, Ross Donkers and Matt O’Connor all won championships and Dalton Lilledahl, Chris Sjodin and Forest Becklin all earned second places. Chad Richard, Dave Olson, Erik Elmstrand and Josh Olson all earned third places.
2. Sauk Rapids Storm
The Storm dropped a pair of duals with three of their starters not participating to Willmar 36-36 and to Becker 36-28. The Storm topped Alexandria in Central Lakes Conference action 35-27. They lost a very well wrestle dual to Foley 34-25 and to No. 2AAA ranked Anoka 47-9. The Storm earned fourth place at the Becker Duals with a quarterfinal win over Blaine 49-21. They lost their semifinal match to Anoka 55-9 and their third place match to Milaca 44-15. Wes Voigt was unbeaten at the Becker duals. The Storm scored 144.5 points at the Royalton with this a few of their varsity wrestlers participating. They took fourth place with seven wrestlers placing in the top four including one championship by Paul Borresch. Tony Foehrenbacher, Blake Cruser and Zach Rudolph all earned third places and Mitch Stenger and Derek Anderst all earned fourth places.
3. Monticello Magic
The Magic topped former North Suburban Conference foe Spring Lake Park 61-13. The Magic claimed third place at the Henry Sibley duals with wins over Henry Sibley 51-16 and Lakeville 50-22. They lost a very well wrestled dual to Blue Earth 33-26. Nate Fessenden, Clay Lanners and Joe Mangas were all unbeaten at the tourney. The Magic topped Mississippi 8 foe Buffalo 43-18.
4. Willmar Cardinals
The Cardinals topped Central Lakes Conference foes Sauk Rapids 36-36, Brainerd 32-31 and Becker in dual meet action 50-22. The Cardinals topped section foe Minnetonka 43-25 and rival KMS 40-20. The did lose to section foe Hutchinson 41-26. The Cardinals claimed sixth place at the “Dam Site” tourney in Granite Falls with 120 points. Six place winners for the Cardinals led by a second by Drew Larson and a trio of thirds by Brady Gilb, Trent Molacek and Brandt Haglund. Eric Borgas and Josh Dahlke both earned fourth places.
5. Brainerd Warriors
The Warriors scored 84 points at the “Big Bear Tourney” to earned 17th place. Tyler Jensen earned the championship and Ryan McKay was edged out in the finals to earn second place and Nate Rubin earned fourth place. Nick Linguall claimed seventh place in this 33 team event. The Warriors dropped a non-conference dual to Aitkin 40-27. The Warriors scored 111.5 points at the Cambridge-Isanti invitational to earn seventh place with six wrestlers placing in the top four. Ryan McKay claimed the lone Warrior championship and Tyler Jensen dropped a very close match in the finals. Nick Granson, Scott pZadrnos, Nick Loreno and Mitch Yager all took fourth places.
6. Alexandria Cardinals
The Cardinals claimed third place at the Ottertail Central Duals with wins over OTC 52-22 and Osakis 39-33. They did drop a dual to the No. 5A ranked Frazee 37-21. John Amundson, Josh Betterman, Brett Ripley and Charlie Kirscht were all unbeaten at the tourney. The Cardinals dropped a close dual to Central Lakes Conference foe Sauk Rapids 35-27. The Cardinals topped Central Lakes Conference foe Fergus Falls with a impressive showing 47-20. The Cardinals turned in a very solid showing at the Buffalo Duals to earn third place. They topped Faribault 52-21, Buffalo 34-27 and in the third place match they topped Moundsview 43-31. The Cardinals lost a close dual to Foley 34-30. Tanner Weltzin, John Amundson, Chris Hobbs and Dave Kirscht all were unbeaten at the Buffalo Duals.
7. Buffalo Bison
The Bison split duals to section foes; they topped Minnetonka 43-30 and lost to Shakopee 44-23. The Bison lost to Mississippi 8 foe Big Lake 39-21 and to their neighbors Watertown-Mayer 33-24 in a very good dual. The Bison topped Minneapolis Southwest 72-0. The Bison dropped a Mississippi 8 dual to rival Monticello 43-18. The Bison took fifth place at their dual meet invitational with wins over Fairbault 49-13 and Ellsworth 42-22. They dropped duals to Alexandria 34-27 and to Foley 40-14. Derek Klatt and Justin Frank were both 4-0 on the day.
8. Chisago Lakes Wildcats
The Wildcats topped Spring Lake Park 46-19, Fridley 69-9. St. Benilde-Margaret and Princeton in dual meet action. The Wildcats topped Wisconsin foes Amery, 33-31 and St. Croix Falls 37-24. They beat Champlin Park 39-24 in dual meet action. They lost to section 7AAA foe Cambridge-Isanti 55-15. At the Hibbing Duals they dropped a dual to White Bear Lake 42-22 and then the Wildcats on to topped three foes Crookston 31-28, Nashwauk-Keewatin 57-21 and Park Center 45-26. Brian Jones was unbeaten at the Hibbing duals and Mitch Anderson, John hogie, Bobby Ferrier, Chad Stenson, Travis Kammerer, Mike Michaelson and Troy Montague were all 3-1 at Hibbing. Brain Jones won his 124 career match to move into second place for the Chisago Lakes Wildcats for all time wins.
9. Moorhead Spuds
The Spuds earned 12th place at the 33 team event the Big Bear tourney with 107 points. Justin LaValle and Jay Thoreseon both claimed championships and Justin Phillipi earned fifth place. The Spuds dropped a very good dual to rival Barnesville 39-26. The Spuds had a very strong showing at the Casselton Lettermans tourney; this is huge field of twenty teams. They scored 142 points to earn fifth place including eight wrestlers in the top six places. Jay Thoreson won the Spuds lone championship and Justin LaValle and Justin Phillippi both earned third places. Bryan Rodriquez and Nate Arends both took fourths, Jacob Ahadegard and Sean Willert both took fifths and Mark Meis claimed sixth place.
10. St. Cloud Apollo Eagles
The Eagles topped Central Lakes Conference foes Sartell 46-33 and St. Cloud Tech 49-27. The Eagles topped Zimmerman in dual meet action 56-21. They lost a close dual to Central Lakes Conference foe Rocori 42-33. The Eagles topped non-conference foe Ogilvie in dual meet action 47-26. The Eagles had a very successful tourney at the Lions Invitational at Ogilvie with 133 points to claim fourth place with seven wrestlers place in the top four. The Eagles won one championship by Mike Abrego and they had one second by Brett Scharmer. Justin Pulliam and Max Aho both earned thirds and Cam Jacobson, Matt Spoden and Nick Paquin all took fourth places.
11. North Branch Vikings
The Vikings lost duals to Totino Grace and St. Francis. They topped Stillwater at the Forest Lakes duals 39-36 and they lost to Forest Lake 62-18 and Centennial 41-21. Adam Gades was unbeaten at the Forest Lake duals. They topped Fridley 47-27 non-conference action. The Vikings earned third place at the Tartan tourney just nine points behind the leader. The Vikings had nine wrestlers place in the top four including one championship by Greg Arnt. Ryan Decorsey, Adam Gades and Duane Durant all earned seconds and Matt Newham, John Wickoren and Boyd Suparat all place third and Eric Kostik and Jon Buck both place fourth.
12. St. Cloud Tech Tigers
The Tigers split with Central Lakes Conference foes; topping Sartell 46-33 and they lost to St. Cloud Apollo 49-27. The Tigers dropped a dual to Eastview high school 56-9. The Tigers participated at the Becker duals where they topped the All-Stars 42-35 and lost to Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City 61-9 and Becker 67-13. Andy Johnston was unbeaten at the Becker duals. Andy Johnston won his 100th career match and he went 4-0 at the Buffalo Duals and Giles Henry was 3-0, Gatieak Gew, Bryan Schwinghammer andRyan Cameron were on 3-1 on the day.
CLASS A REPORT
1. Pierz Pioneers
The Pioneers topped Central Minnesota Conference foes Eden Valley-Watkins 41-16 and Rockford 76-17. In dual meet action they topped Long Prairie-Grey Eagle 41-21. The Pioneers topped Milaca No. 3AA ranked 28-24 in a very good dual and Sartell 75-6. The Pioneers earned eleventh place at the Christmas Tourney with 98 points. Warren Gall and Kyle Girtz both earned third places, Cody Luberts earned sixth place and Kyle Bendar took seventh place. Chuck Boser and Scott Saehr were both 3-2 at the tourney. The Pioneers made a strong statement to Class A teams in Minnesota with their big wins over three ranked AA foes. With big wins over BOLD 42-18, Litchfield 46-11 and rival Little Falls in a excellent dual 33-25. Hank Virnig, Kyle Bednar, Chuck Boser, Warren Gall, Kyle Girtz and Cody Luberts all were 3-0 in the quadrangular.
2. New York Mills Eagles
The Eagles earned 161 points to take fourth place at the massive Big Bear tourney; just a half of point behind third place Greenbush-Middle River Badger. Jason Burg led the way with his runnerup finish and Jared Hotakainen earned third place. Brandon Marsh had a very good tourney to earn fourth place and Devlin Hessig had a very good tourney as well to earn fifth place. Tyler Wegschied took sixth place and Luke Tervala claimed seventh place. The Eagles topped section foe West Central Area 54-19 and Park Rapids 57-18 in dual meet action. The Eagles dropped a very close match to rival and No. 2AA ranked Perham 36-33. Despite the fact the Eagles were missing two of their starters; it was a very good dual. The Eagles turned in a solid performance at the Royalton tourney with 174 points to earn second place. They had five varsity wrestlers and the balance were junior varsity wrestlers competing in the tourney. They had eleven wrestlers place in the top four including a pair of championships by Luke Tervola and Dan Malone. Devlin Hessig, Jesse Bauck and Andrew Frost all earned third places. Andrew won the Fall Award with 3 Falls. Brian Schornack, Josh Guck, Brian Fischer, Jordan Vaughn and Brendan Frost all took fourth places.
3. Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City Falcons
The Falcons dropped a pair of duals to West Central South Conference foes Yellow Medicine East 30-26 and to BOLD/BLH 26-21 and they topped WCS foe Benson 59-18. The Falcons topped Sauk Centre in West Central Conference action 49-20. They really had an outstanding showing at the Becker duals with a quarterfinal win over St. Cloud Tech 61-9 and in the semifinals they topped No. 3AA ranked Milaca 32-28. In the championship they dropped the dual to No. 2AAA ranked Anoka 32-27 despite missing one of their very best wrestlers. Jeremy Anderson, Ben Meyer, John Hoeper, Nic Leither and Matt Leither were all unbeaten at the Becker duals. The Falcons topped the field of teams at the Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa tourney with 188.5 points. They had twelve wrestlers place in the top four including four championships by; Ben Meyer, Nic Leither, Jeremy Anderson and David Nelson. Matt Pearson, A. J. Frederickson and Eric Peterson all earned seconds and Bill Wheeler, Matt Leither and Micah Larson all claimed third places. Bill Wheeler got his 75th career win in the third place match. The Falcons had a pair of fourths by Travis Frederickson and Eric Larson.
4. Aitkin Gobblers
The Gobblers have been very impressive thus far with huge dual meet wins over Hibbing 45-13 and in a pair of Great River Conference duals over Ogilvie 63-15 and Braham 62-6. The Gobblers earned second at the 33 team event at the “Big Bear Tourney” with 165 points. Leading the way was B. J. Wasserzieher; third, Brett Mlynar and Travis Halberg were both fourth and Phillip Just took sixth place. Justin Dotzler took seventh place and a pair of eights by Keith Wasserzieher and Matt Christensen. The Gobblers continue to rolled with huge win over Brainerd 40-27.
5. Paynesville Bulldogs
The Bulldogs topped Section foes Norwood Young America 46-24, Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa 44-15 and Meadow Creek River Academy. They also topped New London-Spicer in a very good dual 29-25. The Bulldogs dropped a big dual to section foe Eden Valley-Watkins 50-17; this was minus two state ranked wrestler and two other starters. Two wrestlers can easily affect four different matches and a potential 24 point swing in matches. I would expect this to be very close the next time that they do meet. Joey Sheridan, Joel Kerzman and Sean Glenz were unbeaten at their quadrangular. The Bulldogs topped West Central North Conference foe Melrose 72-12. The Bulldogs turned in a strong showing at the Farmington Duals with wins over South St. Paul 59-18, Bloomington Kennedy 37-23 and Chatfield 51-25. The Bulldogs did lose to AAA Henry Sibley 38-37 in the final of their pool. Joe Sheridan, Keith Klein and Sean Glenz were all unbeaten at the Farmington Duals.
6. Yellow Medicine East Sting
The Sting had had some very outstanding performances thus far with a wins over three West Central South Conference foes Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City, LQPV 70-0 and Morris Area/Hancock 68-0. They have a pair of dual meet wins over section foes KMS 48-20 and Renville County West 72-0. A non-conference win over Redwood Falls 46-30. Surely if they continue to have these type of performances they might fine themselves in the Dirty Dozen. The Sting had another very strong performance at their invitational the “Dam Site Tourney” with 152.5 points to earn second place. They had thirteen wrestlers place in the top four including two championships by Matt Williams and Austin Cole. Jordan Stock and Spencer Sannerud both earned seconds and the Sting had five third place wrestlers including; Tim Palm, Tom Jacobson, Landon Cole, Casey Field and Derek Dyrdahl. Wyatt Sand, Nick Rolfing, Eric Dubbelde and Evan Stock all took fourth places.
7. Eden Valley-Watkins Eagles
The Eagles have gotten those football players back on to the wrestling mat and they are on a roll. They topped section foes Paynesville 50-17 and Meadow Creek River Academy 62-6. The Eagles topped Central Minnesota Conference foe Rockford 67-6. They lost to the No. 1A ranked Pierz in Central Minnesota Conference dual meet action 41-16. The score doesn’t reflect on how good of dual meet this was with Pierz. They continued with great performances at the Johnson Duals with big wins over Nicollet 76-3 and St. Paul Johnson 67-11. They lost 32-31 to highly ranked AAA foe Wayzata. Ryan Sullivan, Nick Peterson, Raymen Rice, Phillip Magadenz, Adam Hiltner and Paul Stommes were all unbeaten at the Johnson Duals. The Eagles topped section foe Kimball 66-7. The Eagles turned in another impressive performance, winning the championship with 216 points. They had eleven wrestlers place in the top four including championships by Phillip Magedanz, Raymen Rice and Luke Stommes. Ryan Sullivan, Jacob Forcier, Adam Hiltner and Paul Stommes all earned second places and earning third places were Mike Sullivan, Chris Faber and Darren Berg. Heath Kramer took fourth place for the Eagles. One note that Nick Peterson one of their top wrestlers didn’t compete in the tourney.
8. Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines
The Wolverines had a good showing at the “Big Bear Tourney” with 144 points to earn sixth place out of a field of 33 teams. They had six place winners including two thirds by Shawn Beversluis and Tony Wegschied and a fourth place by Tanner Rentz. The Wolverines had three wrestlers earn sixth places including; Kenny Steffens, Trey VanOrsdal and Tim Richards. They did drop a dual to No. 4A ranked Frazee 50-12. The Wolverines topped section foe Menagha-Sebeka 42-30.
9. Wheaton-Herman/Norcross Bullets
The Bullets topped section foes Browerville/Eagle Valley 46-27 and Parkers Prairie 52-21. They had a very good showing at the Valley City tourney with 164 points to earn second place. The Bullets had seven wrestlers place in the top four; including two championships by Shane Fickes and Jerod Lennox and a second by Ryan Schwagle. Austin Nilson and Brett Lennox both earned third places and Brady Sykora and Jesse Rath both took fourths. The Bullets were missing a few regulars for the “Dam Site Tourney” where they score 69 points with five wrestlers placing in the top four places including two championships by Shane Fickes and Brett Lennox. Brady Sykora had a strong showing earning second place; John Doll earned third place and Tony Roeschlien took fourth place.
10. Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale Raiders
The Raiders topped section foe Parkers Prairie 43-25 and Park Region Conference foe Pequot Lake/Pine Rive/Backus 40-30. The Raiders scored 173 points at the Eagle Valley invitational to earn second place. They had nine place winners including four championships by Zak Lambert, Ethan Kern, Sam Moenkedick and Jake Braaten. Taking second was Nick Harren and Aaron Moenkedick; Wade Moenkedick was third and A pair of fourths by Tony Schul and Kevin Voeltz. The Raiders lost to the No. 2AA ranked Perham 51-16.
11. Osakis Silverstreaks
The Silverstreaks topped a pair of section foes with wins over Sauk Centre 39-32 and Browerville/Eagle Valley 48-19. They took fourth place at the Ottertail Central duals with a win over Hawley 62-6 and they lost a very well wrestled match with Alexandria 39-33 and No. 4A ranked Frazee 46-24. Clinton Wiener, Eric Wiener, Chad Rodriquez and Pat Barrett were all unbeaten at the OTC duals. The Silverstreaks added two more duals to the victory column with a wins over Park Region Conference foe Parkers Prairie 48-21 and Hawley 59-10.
12. Breckenridge Cowboys
The Cowboys dropped duals to Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton 52-24, Bold 45-17 and St. Peter 42-39. The Cowboys topped section foe Morris Area/Hancock 48-27. They took fifth place at the Valley City tourney with 127.5 points with seven wrestlers placing in the top four. Spencer Beech and Seth Klostreich both earned seconds and Andy VanHecke, Alex Johnson and Jess Stuehrenberg all took thirds. Tyler Nord and Jake Owens both took fourth places.
