Central Minnesota Mat Rats Report (12th Annual)

Coaches, please keep me informed of your team's success throughout the season. With each edition, I would like to share their success in The Central MN Report. Central Minnesota’s Top Class AA Teams

1. SAINT MICHAEL-ALBERTVILLE KNIGHTS

The Knights competed at the Minnesota Christmas Tourney in a field of thirty-two teams. They earned seventh place with 133 points and seven place winners including one championship by Joe Grygelko. David Thorn had a strong showing with his runner-up finish and Kyle Schumm also gave a very good showing with his third place finish. Austin Kolles earned fourth place, Ross LeFebvre earned sixth place, Alex Becker seventh place and Jordan Campa took eighth place. The Knights competed in The Clash they split their duals over the weekend with wins over AAA Owatonna 38-22, Valentine, NEB. 47-23 and Aitkin 52-25. They dropped duals to Skutt Catholic of Nebraska 40-21, Lodi, Wis. 33-25 and a close one to No. 2AA ranked Jackson County 33-25. Joe Grygelko and David Thorn were both 6-0, Ross Lefebvre was 5-1, Kyle Salonek, Brian Zachman and Alex Becker were all 4-2 on the weekend. The Knights topped Mississippi 8 Conference foe Becker 54-14. The Knights Junior Varsity competed at the Mora tourney where they had a strong showing with 147 points for sixth place. They had eight wrestlers place in the top four including Nick Zachman, John Marcks and Jake Horn all earned seconds. Dusty Kottke and Derick Berhow both earned thirds and Carl Salonek, Jordan Scherber and Andrew Wruck all took fourth places.

3. ANNANDALE-MAPLE LAKE LIGHTNING

The Lightning had a great showing topping a very good 6AA foe Milaca 36-28 for their second big win over a Section 6AA foe in a couple of weeks. The Lightning topped Dassel-Cokato in the Inaugural Battle for the Bolt 38-21. The Lighting topped two foes in a triangular at Orono. They topped the host team 56-7 and one of the top teams in section 5A Norwood Young America 57-15. The Lightning had an excellent showing at the Mora Invitational with only a few of their regular varsity competing. They earned second place with 183 points and nine wrestlers placing in the top four. The Lightning had four champions; including Jake Anderson, Ben Hylla, Chase Swenson and Derek Klatt. Brian Redemske, Corey Salveson and Kyle Erickson all very good performances to earn seconds. Tyler Wurm and Jay Forness both took fourth places.

4. BIG LAKE HORNETS

The Hornets continue to have a great season; as this young team continues to improve with a Mississippi 8 Conference win over Buffalo 53-12. The Hornets topped AAA foes Lean and Mean Elk River 41-22 and Blaine 61-9. The Hornets topped Section 6AA foe Mora 55-13 in dual meet action. The Hornets had an outstanding showing at the Buffalo Duals with huge wins over their foes. They defeated Alexandria 55-7, Fairbault 61-10, Ellsworth, Wis. 72-3 and in the Championship No. 4AA and Section 6AA foe Foley 28-19. The Hornets have established themselves as the team to beat in Section 6AA. Aaron Stolp, Dan Brown, Tyler Sonenstahl and Ben Brown were all 4-0; Justin Nelson was 3-0 and Matt Nelson, Jake Lumley, Justin Haag, Josh Ledin and Aaron Mevissen were all 3-1 at the Buffalo duals.

5. FOLEY FALCONS

The Falcons topped the field of Section 5AA teams with wins over host Dassel-Cokato 49-24, BOLD/BLH 38-22 and New London-Spicer 35-19. Jacob Bowland, Cory Foss, Mike Beehler and John Linn were all 4-0 at the Dassel-Cokato quadrangular. The Falcons topped a pair of Section 6AA foes with wins over Albany 44-15 and Zimmerman 58-9. They had an impressive win over the Lean and Mean Sauk Rapids 49-13. The Falcons earned second place at the Buffalo duals with wins over host Buffalo 47-12, Mounds View 40-21 and St. Cloud Tech 68-3. They dropped the championship to Section 6AA rival Big Lake 28-19. Mike Beehler, Jeremy Weber, Cory Foss and Jacob Bowland were all unbeaten and Mark Geiling, Steve Sobania, Jon Linn were all 3-1 on the day at the Buffalo duals.

6. MILACA WOLVES

The Wolves topped Section 6AA foe Hinckley-Finlayson/Pine City 68-6, non-conference AAA foe North St. Paul 63-9 and they topped class A rival Pierz 51-19. The Wolves earned second place at the Becker Duals with wins over St. Cloud Tech 77-0 and Section 6AA foe Becker 31-25; in an excellent dual. The Wolves dropped the championship to the No. 3A ranked Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City 48-14. Carter Ash and Mitch Nelson were both 3-0 at the Becker Duals. The Wolves topped Section 6AA and Rum River Conference foe Zimmerman 48-17. This was a huge win for the Wolves as it was Head Coach Randy Zimmer’s 400th Career Dual meet win in his coaching career. Congratulations to Coach Zimmer!

7. NEW LONDON-SPICER WILDCATS

The Wildcats had an impressive wins over BLH 29-24 and Dassel-Cokato 37-25. They did drop a dual to Section 6AA No. 7AA ranked Foley 35-19 in a very good dual. The Wildcats topped West Central North Conference rival Sauk Centre 47-20.

8. BOLD/BLH WARRIORS

The Warriors topped Section 5AA foe Dassel-Cokato 37-25 and they dropped duals to Section 5AA foe New London-Spicer 29-24 and to No. 7AA ranked Foley 38-22. The Warriors topped Section 5AA foes Glencoe-Silver Lake/LP 34-22 and Waconia 49-17. The Warriors flexed their muscles by topping all their foes at the Little Falls quadrangular with wins over host and No. 12AA ranked Little Falls 39-27, Lean and Mean and Section 5AA foe Litchfield 32-21 and Pierz 37-31. Kyle Schulte, Tom Brenner, Pat LeVassuer, Ross Neubauer, Kyle Pietig and Brian Hagen were all unbeaten at the Little Falls quadrangular.

9. LITTLE FALLS FLYERS

The Flyers topped Central Lakes Conference foes Brainerd 38-25 and St. Cloud Apollo 51-10, and they topped non-conference foe Cloquet 69-10. They lost a close dual for former 8AAA section rival Bemidji 37-34 in a very close dual. The Flyers took a huge step toward winning another Central Lakes Conference championship with a huge win over Sauk Rapids 41-23. This was the best showing thus far this season for the Flyers with their performance in the Sauk Rapids dual. The Flyers host a quadrangular and came away with two wins over Lean and Mean Litchfield 38-21 and rival Pierz 42-33. The Flyers dropped a dual to Lean and Mean BOLD/BLH 39-27. Jason Brill, Randy Przybilla, Steve Strack and Dylan Bue came up with outstanding performances on the night to go unbeaten.

10. LITCHFIELD DRAGONS

The Dragons topped a pair of Wright County Conference foes Mound-Westonka 46-21 and Watertown-Mayer 48-14. The Dragons went 1-2 at the Little Falls quadrangular with a win over Pierz 41-19; they dropped duals to Lean and Mean BOLD/BLH 32-21 and to the host No. 12AA ranked Little Falls 38-24. Tanner Sittig, David Malepsy and Jared Flemming were all unbeaten at the quadrangular.

11. FERGUS FALLS OTTERS

The Otters had a very good performance at the Big Bear tourney where they scored 116.5 points to earn ninth place in a field of 33 teams. They had four wrestlers place including Karl Haataja earned third place, Drew Ross earned fifth place and Colton Thorson earned sixth place. The Otters have a dual meet win over Central Lakes Conference foe Alexandria 39-34 and they dropped a Central Lakes Conference dual to Brainerd 37-28. The Otters topped Section 7AA rival Minnewaska 40-28, with this win it could position the Otters as a top four team in the section.

12. MINNEWASKA LAKERS

The Lakers topped West Central North Conference foe Long Prairie-Grey Eagle 42-22. They had a strong showing at the Benson Brave Classic tourney with 189.5 points to earn third place. They were edged out by Mahnomen-Waubun by just a half of point. The Lakers had eleven wrestlers place in the top four with two championships including Jon Tatro and Sam Goracke. Dan Braaten, Collin Jergenson, Gage Sachs and Justin Frederick all had good performances to earn seconds. Jon Erickson and Frank Martin both earned thirds and Andrew Stoen, David Cowen and Jamie Linman all took fourth places.

ALBANY HUSKIES

The Huskies topped West Central North Conference foes Sauk Centre 36-32, Long Prairie-Grey Eagle 50-25 and Section 6AA foe Zimmerman 47-21. They lost a dual to Section 6AA foe No. 7AA ranked Foley 44-15. The Huskies had a strong showing at the Mora tourney with 151 points to tie for fourth place. They had eight wrestlers place in the top four including two championships by Kurt Schlangen and Matt Dowell. John Bredeck, Brandon Panek, Tyler Holthaus, Kyle Litchy and Andrew Nienaber all came back strong after being defeated in the earlier rounds to earn third places. Wade Persson had a good tourney where he earned fourth place.

GLENCOE-SILVER LAKE/LESTER PRAIRIE PANTHERS

The Panthers topped non-conference foes St. Peter 46-18 and Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted 59-12. The Panthers topped Section 5AA and Wright County Conference foe Waconia 43-21 and they dropped a Section 5AA dual to BOLD/BLH 34-22. The Panthers dropped a dual to the No. 9A Ranked Sibley East 42-18. They had a very good showing at the Norwood Young America tourney with 185 points and ten wrestlers placing in the top four. Alex Jenson, Chip Maresh and Chris Dahlke all won championships and Brandon Barth and Justin Nowak both earned third places and took fourth was Tyler Greeley, Nick Tritz, James Carlson and Nick Larson.

BECKER BULLDOGS

The Bulldogs topped non-conference foe St. Cloud Tech 59-10 at the Bulldog Duals. They dropped two very close duals to Section 6AA foe Milaca 31-25 and in the third place match they lost to Sauk Rapids in a dual decided by a overtime match at 285 36-34. Brady Schrupp, Kevin O’Brien and Cory Nelson were all 3-0 at the Becker Duals. The Bulldogs dropped a dual to Mississippi 8 Conference foe and No. 3AA ranked St. Michael-Albertville 54-14. The had a very good showing at the Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa tourney with 125 points to earn third place behind No. 3A ranked Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City and Lean and Mean Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunberg. The Bulldogs had nine wrestlers place in the top four including three championships by Brady Schrupp, Kevin O’Brien and Robert Koranda. Robert won his 150 career match in the early rounds. Robert had an outstanding match in the championship by defeating No. 7AA 135 ranked foe 3-1. Cory Immerman earned second place, he was just edged out in the finals in overtime by a highly ranked foe. Eric Walberg earned third place and Cory Nelson, Emery Forsythe, Ben Jones and Clint Aurentz all earned fourth places.

MORA MUSTANGS

The Mustangs have had some very good showings thus far this season with a big win over Cambridge-Isanti 36-36 (Criteria) and Section 6AA foe Zimmerman. They topped Section 6AA foes Princeton 54-24 and lost to Section 6AA foe Big Lake 55-14 The dropped a Non-Conference foe Henry Sibley 39-2, also a close match to AAA Wayzata 33-31. They topped one of the topped 5A teams Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted 42-24. The Mustangs topped the field at their invitational with some very good performances, they earned 215 points including four championships. Brad Koehn, Andrew Youngblom, Zach Van Vleet and Chris Sawatzky all won championships. Brad Koehn was also named the outstanding wrestlers by the coaches at the tourney. Nick Muehlberg had a good tourney to earn second place and Seth Sanftner, Blake Menard and Andrew Ruse all came back to earned third places and Britt Drews earned fourth place.

PEQUOT LAKES/PINE RIVER/BACKUS ROAD CREW

The Road Crew have had some very impressive showings thus far with a big win over Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale 48-24. The Road Crew scored 123 points at the Big Bear Tourney to earn 6th place in this 33 team field of teams. Nic Harrison won their lone championship, Jesse Hernandez earned third place, Marcus Hernandez earned fifth place and a pair of seventh places with Pat Bresnahan and Cody Schrupp. The Road Crew topped two Mid-State Conference foes with growing performances against Staples-Motley 40-28 and Park Rapids 46-30.

SARTEL SABRES

The Sabres have earned their first dual meet victories Central Lakes Conference with huge wins over Brainerd 34-30, St. Cloud Apollo 35-29 and Willmar 32-31. The Sabres are proving what some people thought might not be possible. They had a strong showing at the Mora tourney with 159 points to earned third place with eight wrestlers placing in the top four and a total of 13 wrestlers placing in the tourney. Travis Lewellyn won the lone championship and Jess Coffin, Jeff Stang, Chris Yasgar, Paul Plombon and Bryan Fischer all had very good tourneys to earn second places. T. J. Stang and John Fischer both earned fourth places.


Central Minnesota Top Class AAA Teams

1. CAMBRIDGE-ISANTI BLUE JACKETS

The Blue Jackets topped AAA foe Monticello 41-24 and Zimmerman 47-16; before dropping a 36-36 match to AA Mora on criteria. They did compete in the Christmas tourney where they earned sixteenth place with 76.5 points in this huge field of thirty-two teams. Matt O’Conner earned fifth place, Chad Larson and Scott Gifford both earned seventh places. The Blue Jackets had a great showing at their invitational to earned the championship with 221.5 points and thirteen wrestlers placing in the top four. Chris Sjodin and Ross Dankers both had great tourneys to earn championships and Chad Larson, Alex Gving, Dalton Littledahl, Matt O’Connor and Josh Olson all earned second places. Derek Swanson, Jason Ingberg and Tony Nelson all earn third places and Clayton Jennissen, Scott Gifford and Erik Elmstrand all took fourth places.

2. SAUK RAPIDS STORM

The Storm had topped four Central Lakes Conference foes with big wins over Rocori 48-30, Alexandria 41-30, St. Cloud Tech 58-24 and Little Falls. The Storm claimed third place at the Becker Duals with wins over Blaine 74-6 and Becker for third place in a very good dual 36-34. This dual was not decided till an overtime match at 285. The did drop their semifinal dual to No. 3A ranked Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City 58-13. Mike Hines, Evan Warnert and Tyler Spicizka all had great performances to earned three wins over their foes at the Becker Duals. The Storm lost their Central Lakes Conference dual to No. 10AA ranked Little Falls 41-23.

3. ELK RIVER ELKS

The Elks topped Blaine in Northwest Suburban conference dual meet action; they did drop a dual to 11th AA ranked Big Lake 41-22. The Elks Tyler Hemmesch earned second place at the thirty-two team field of teams at the Christmas tourney. The Elks topped Northwest Suburban Conference foe Park Center 47-24. The Elks turned in a outstanding showing at the Cambridge-Isanti tourney with 183.5 points to earn second place. They had eleven wrestlers place in the top four including three championships by Tyler Stevens, Joey Kohler and Tyler Hemmesch. Kyle Muetzel had a great tourney to earn second place and Ross Cazett, Mitch Hauge, Wade Forde, Zak Hertz and Holtan Lubinski all had great tourneys to earn third places. John Neslter and Jacob Kohler both took fourth places.

4. BUFFALO BISON

The Bison dropped a dual to Mississippi 8 Conference foe Big Lake 53-12. They topped Section 2AAA foes Shakopee 37-30 and Minnetonka. They had a great tourney at their dual meet invitational with three wins over St. Cloud Tech. 45-18, Mounds View 35-30 and for third place they topped Alexandria 32-31. Tim Ruter and Eric Stovern were both 4-0 and Danny Maghrak and Matt Jeska were both 3-1 for the Bison at their dual meet invitational.


5. ALEXANDRIA CARDINALS

The Cardinals dropped a Central Lakes Conference duals to Sauk Rapids 41-30 and Fergus Falls 39-34. They were 2-2 and at the Buffalo duals with win over Ellsworth, Wis. 51-21 and Fairbault 42-37. The Cards lost to tourney champion No. 11AA ranked Big Lake 55-7 and they dropped a 32-31 dual to the host Buffalo in a battle for third place. The brothers Mike and Charlie Kirscht were 4-0, going 3-1 was Tanner Weltzin, John Amundson and Josh Betterman.

6. BRAINERD WARRIORS

The Warriors dropped Central Lakes Conference duals to Sartell 34-30 and to Little Falls 38-25. The Warriors had a very good showing at the Big Bear tourney a thirty-three team affair with 122.5 points to earn seventh place. Tyler Jensen earned second place, Nick Lingwall and Jake Patnode both earned fifth place , Scott Padrnos and Nick Grausam both earned sixth place and Chris Patrnos took eighth place. The Warriors topped Fergus Falls in a Central Lakes Conference dual meet action 37-28. They dropped a close dual to one of the top Section 7AA team Minnewaska 37-29. The Warriors turned in a very good performance at the Cambridge-Isanti tourney with 166.5 points to earn third place. They had six wrestlers place in the top four including three championships by Tyler Jensen, Nate Rubin and Scott Padrnos. Nick Lingwall and Jake Patnode both had good tourneys to earn second places and Ryan Loftgren turned a great performance to earn a third place.

7. WILLMAR CARDINALS

The Cardinals topped St. Cloud Tech in Central Lakes Conference dual meet action 47-18. They topped North Branch at the Forest Lake duals 33-31 and dropped duals to Monticello 55-15 and Henry Sibley 44-28. Brandt Haglund and Drew Larson were both unbeaten at the Forest Lake Duals. The Cardinals dropped a Central Lakes Conference dual to Sartell 32-31. The Cards came back from the close dual to top three Section 2AAA foes Minnetonka 36-31, Hutchinson 42-22 and Chaska 36-29. Brandt Haglund, Drew Larson, Cody Stegeman and Trent Molacek all great performances to go unbeaten at the quadrangular.

8. CHISAGO LAKES WILDCATS

The Wildcats topped Fridley 59-18 in North Suburban Conference dual meet action and topped Braham in non-conference action 52-22. They lost a non-Conference dual Wisconsin foe Saint Croix Falls 45-25. The Wildcats had a very good showing at the Hibbing Blue Jacket Duals with wins over Virgina 60-17, Park Center 43-27 and Crookston 37-36 and they did drop a dual to Centennial 45-23. Mitch Anderson and Troy Montague were both 4-0 and Travis Kammerer, Mike Michaelson, John Hogie and Tony Gall were all 3-1 at the Hibbing Duals.

9. ST. CLOUD APOLLO EAGLES

The Eagles dropped Central Lakes Conference duals to Little Falls 51-10 and Sartell 45-29. The Eagles had a very good showing at the Ogilvie Lions tourney by earning 157.5 points to claim third place with ten wrestlers placing in the top four. The Eagle had one championship by Matt Spoden and Justin Pulliam, Nolan Rial, Isaac Pentz and Nick Paquin all had great tourneys to earn second places. Justin Pulliam earned his 100th career win in the early rounds but ran into the No. 4A ranked wrestler in the finals. Johnny Stram and David Then each had great tourneys to earn third place and Chris Rochelau took fourth place. Matt Shaver and Nick Stram both took fifth places.

10. MOORHEAD SPUDS

The Spuds had a very good showing at the Big Bear tourney; as they earned thirteenth place with 91.5 points at this thirty-three team field of teams. Justin LaValle won the Spuds lone championship, Luke Tweeten had a great performance to earn second place and Matt Langeberg earned fourth place. The Spuds topped cross town rival Fargo North 48-24. They dropped a dual to No. 7A ranked Barnesville 46-27. They had a good tourney at the Central Cass Letterman’s Invitational a field of twenty-one teams. The Spuds earned 94.5 points to tie for tenth place. Justin Lavalle and Ben Wheeler had great tourneys to earn seconds and Matt Lange berg a great performance to earn third place and Luke Tweeten had a good tourney to earn fifth place.

11. NORTH BRANCH VIKINGS

The Vikings dropped a dual to Section 7AAA foe St. Francis 60-18 and to Robbinsdale Cooper 40-33. They did have a good showing at the Tartan Tourney with 174 points to earn fifth place. Greg Arnt won the lone championship and Erik Kostik and Boyd Suparat both had good tourneys to earn seconds. John Wickoren earned third place and Justin Bergerson took fourth place.

12. ST. CLOUD TECH TIGERS

The Tigers topped non-conference foes Eden Prairie 62-15 and Princeton 39-27. At the Becker Duals the Tigers dropped duals to Blaine 45-25, Becker 57-10 and Milaca 77-0. The Tigers dropped three Central Lakes Conference duals to Willmar 47-18 Sauk Rapids 58-24 and Rocori 46-28. The Tigers dropped four duals at the Buffalo Duals to Mounds View 48-22, Buffalo 45-18, Foley 68-3 and Ellsworth, Wis. 41-31. Senior Ethan Kellner (171 pounds) was 4-0 and senior Jake Hills (160) and sophomore Luke Laudenbach (215) each went 3-1.


Central Minnesota Top Class A Teams

1. ATWATER-COSMOS-GROVE CITY FALCONS

The Falcons topped the field of teams at the Becker duals with victories over Blaine 72-3, Sauk Rapids 58-13 and in the Championship defeated AA Milaca 48-14 in a very impressive showing. Jeremy Anderson, Ben Meyer, Scott Litzau, Billy Wheeler, Travis and A. J. Fredricksen, Nic Liether and David Nelson all had very good days as they were 3-0 for the Falcons. The Falcons topped Wabasso a section 3A power 36-2 and West Central South foe Benson 66-3. They had a very strong showing at the Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa tourney with 222 points to earn the championship. The Falcons had thirteen wrestlers in the top four including six championships. Jeremy Anderson, Ben Meyer, Nick Liether, A. J. Frederickson, Dave Nelson and Scott Litzau. Billy Wheeler, Matt Pearson and Travis Whitcomb all had great tourneys to earn second place. David Litzau, Travis Fredericksen and Micah Larson all earned third places and Josh Lies took fourth place.

2. AITKIN GOBBLERS

The Gobblers had a strong performance at the Big Bear Tourney with 164 points to earn third place in this huge thirty-three team field of teams. Isaac Werner had a great tourney to win the Gobblers lone championship. Justin Chouanard and Matt Christensen both earned seconds with very solids performances. Nick Nadeau took the long hard route back to earn third place with a solid performance. Travis Hallberg earned fifth place and Andrew Hallberg earned sixth place. It is very possible the Gobblers may have moved up in the standings if their 215 didn’t have to default early out of the tourney. The Gobblers topped Great River Conference foe Ogilvie 52-26. The Gobblers were competing with the big boys at The Clash. They took on Jackson Memorial of New Jersey, ranked 9th nationally and came up short 53-15. They dropped their second dual to No. 3AA ranked STMA 52-25 and the final dual of day one was with defending South Dakota state champion Canton. They lost several close matches and came up a little short 38-16. The Gobblers top three foes on Saturday to win the eight division. The topped Klein Oak, Texas 55-18, St. Anthonys of Long Island, New York 51-24 and Minot, North Dakota 36-27 in a very good dual. Nick Nadeau was 5-1, Matt Christensen and Travis Hallberg were both 4-1, Keith Wasserzieher was 4-2 and Brandon Perrine went 4-2 over the weekend. The Gobblers topped Section 6A and Great River Conference foe Braham 50-15.

3. KERKHOVEN-MURDOCK-SUNBURG FIGHTING SAINTS

The Fighting Saints have been on a roll with dual meet wins over Kimball 68-9, Royalton 49-23 and AA Tracy-Balaton 40-28. The Fighting Saints hosted a quadrangular where they dominated three foes for big wins including; Eden Valley-Watkins 56-15, Parkers Prairie 51-17 and Ortonville 64-10. Brad Kneisel, Brad Kinney, Kurt Timmons, Spencer Almen, Kevin Steinhaus, Mitch Hagen, Jeremy Merrill and Alex Baker were all 3-0 at the quadrangular. The Fighting Saints had a very showing at the Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa tourney with eleven wrestlers placing in the top four to earn second place with 164.5 points. Kevin Steinhaus, Jeremy Merrill and Cody Kinney all won championships. Kevin Steinhaus was named the outstanding wrestlers by the Head Coaches. Jacob Engler and Brad Kneisl had good tourneys to earned second places and Kurt Timmons, Klinton VanHeuveln and Spencer Almen all came back after losing early in the tourney to all earn third places. Alex Baker, Aaron Zimmer and Trever Mahlum all took fourth places.

4. YELLOW MEDICINE EAST STING

The Sting topped two West Central South Conference foes in dual meet action; Montevideo 66-6 and Morris Area/Hancock 63-3. The Sting topped non-conference AA foe Redwood Valley 61-9. They had a great tourney performance at the Norwood Young America tourney, their performance earned them the tourney championship with 227 points. The Sting tied Section 4A foe Minneota for the championship with eleven wrestlers placing in the top four. Casey Field, Eric Dubbelde and Austin Cole all won championships. Logan Johnson, Wyatt Sand, Landon Cole and Martin Hagen all earned second places. Justin Tongen, Phil Johnson and Evan Stock had good tourneys; they earned third place and Sam Isfeld took fourth place.

5. MILLE LACS RAIDERS

The Raiders have topped Section 6A foes Ogilvie 55-19, Royalton 59-18 and Browerville/Eagle Valley 69-9. The also topped Section 5A foe Meadow Creek River Academy 63-12. The Raiders how a good showing at the Ogilvie tourney with 175 points to earn second place with nine wrestlers placing in the top four. Nick Pfaff, Rob Olson, Kyle Prickett and Chris Steffenson all won championships with outstanding performance. Nick Pfaff was name the outstanding wrestler by the Head coaches. Chris Steffenson won his 75th career match in the championship. Zach Olsonand, John Odle and Derek Kightlinger all earned second place and Brandon Hunziher and Ryan Jones both took fourth place.

6. NEW YORK MILLS EAGLES

The Eagles earned seventh place at the Big Bear Tourney with 80 points and four place winners including one champion Jason Burg. Jesse Bauck had a great tourney placing third, Brandon Frost earned seventh place and Jordan Novak earned eighth place. The Eagles dropped duals to No. 2A ranked Frazee 34-30 and to No. 5AA Perham 50-17. They had a great tourney performance with 208.5 points to win the championship at the Royalton tourney. The Eagles had eleven wrestlers place in the top four including three championships by Jordan Novak, Jason Burg and Andrew Frost. Jason Burg was voted the outstanding wrestler by the Head coaches. Also having great tourneys were Jesse Bauck, Matt Hagen, Ethan Marsh and Branden Frost as they all earned second place. Jordan Vaughn and Mark Simpson had very good tourney as both earned third places and Andy Hendrickz and Brain Schorneck both took fourth places.

7. PIERZ PIONEERS

The Pioneers have struggled just getting healthy wrestlers on the mat; they dropped a non-conference dual to rival Milaca 51-19. The have finally gotten all their wrestlers in their lineup as they did turn in a good performance at the Little Falls quadrangular. They did drop three duals to No. 12AA Little Falls 42-33, Lean and Mean AA Bold/BLH 37-31 and to Lean and Mean Litchfield 51-19. Clint Poster and Hank Virnig won all there matches at the quadrangular.

8. BERTHA-HEWITT/VERNDALE RAIDERS

The Raiders topped Park Region Conference foe Osakis 37-28 and Section 7A foe Chokio-Alberta/Clinton-Graceville 52-24. The Raiders dropped a dual to 7AA rival Pequot Lake/Pine River/Backus 48-24. They had a good showing at the Bronco Invitational where the Raiders earned second place with 192 points. The Moenkedick boys; Sam, Matt and Wade all won championships and Zak Lambert won a championship. Ethan Kern, Justin Kern and Jake Braaten all earned seconds. Amos Schmidt earned third place and Trent Bertram and Nate Wiese both took fourths. The Raiders topped two Section 7A foes Wadena-Deer Creek 39-36 and Pelican Rapids 39-35.

9. WADENA-DEER CREEK WOLVERINES

The Wolverines dropped a dual to Class A rival No. 2A ranked Frazee 59-10. They had a strong showing at the Big Bear tourney where they earned eighth place with 122 points in a huge field of thirty-three teams. Kevin Trout and Tony Wegscheid both earned seconds with great performances. Trey VanOrsdel earned sixth place in a very good weight class and Jordan Rentz and Steve Lustila both took eight place. The Wolverines split duals with two Section 7A foes; they defeated Pelican Rapids 40-29 and came up a little short against rival Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale 39-36. Look for the Wolverines to have some strong showings in the future weeks as they have all their wrestlers in the lineup for the first time this season.

10. WHEATON-HERMAN/NORCROSS BULLETS

The Bullets topped Section 7A foe Pelican Rapids 52-23 in a very good performance; they dropped a dual to No. 5AA ranked Perham 41-23. The Bullets had a very strong showing at the Montevideo tourney by earning 154 points for third place behind the No. 1A ranked Canby. They had eight place winners including three runner-ups Brady Sykora, Austin Nilson and Nate Mord. Ryan Schwagel and Brett Lennox both earned thirds and Tony Roeschlien, Will McCarthy and Reed Schmitz all took fourth places. The Bullets continue to turn in some very good performances as they won the Benson Brave Classic tourney with 213.5 points ten wrestlers placing in the top four. Austin Nilson, Nate Mord, Brady Sykora and Ryan Schwagel had great tourneys; as they all won championships. Brett Lennox and Trent Frisch both earned second place and Jesse Rath, Reed Schmitz, Tony Roechlien and Will McCarty all earned third places.

11. PAYNESVILLE BULLDOGS

The Bulldogs topped West Central Conference foe Melrose 52-12. They earned fourth place at the Farmington Duals with a first round win over Lakeville North 54-10, They lost to AAA Henry Sibley 46-21 and Lean and Mean Class A Chatfield 44-26. Aaron Burris and Cory Spanier had great tourneys as both went unbeaten in the three duals.

12. CROSBY-IRONTON RANGERS

The Rangers topped Section 6A foes Ogilvie 44-21, Holdingford 41-27 and Pierz 43-31. They had good performances as they topped AA foes Virgina 41-18 and Nashwauk-Keewatin 48-21. The Rangers took firth place at the Ogilvie tourney with 129.5 points and six wrestlers placing in the top four including three championships by Brad Hofstrand, Wade Adams and Lane Srock. Brandon Biever and Ben Rothstein both earned third places and Sam Srock took fourth place.

OSAKIS SILVERSTREAKS

The Silverstreaks beat three section 6A foes Browerville/Eagle Valley 60-21, Sauk Centre 42-27 and Royalton 58-21. They topped Park Region Conference foe Ottertail Central 38-30 and Menagha-Sebeka 54-15. The Silverstreaks have big dual meet wins over CACGB 51-21 and Hawley 67-6. They dropped a very close dual to Park Region Conference rival Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale 37-28.

EDEN VALLEY-WATKINS EAGLES

The Eagles topped a pair of Class A foes at the KMS quadrangular Ortonville 58-23 and Parkers Prairie 51-17. They did drop a dual to the host Class A Lean and Mean Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg 56-15.
