Matthew Pfarr, 160 lbs.LeSueur-Henderson, 12th Matthew is a three-time state placer winning the Class A title this year. He placed fifth at 145 pounds as a junior and sixth at 130 pounds as a sophomore. Matthew had an impressive season record of 40-2. He ended his high school career with a record of 174-43. Matthew’s GPA is 4.21. Honors and achievements include 2008 Minnesota River Valley Conference All-Conference, 2008 Conference MVP, and 2008 LeSueur-Henderson Most Valuable Wrestler. Future plans are to attend college and wrestle. Matthew’s parents are Dave and Robin and his coach is J.D. Pesch. |
Derek Schreiner, 140 lbs.Wayzata, 12th Derek is a three-time state champion. He won the 140-pound Class AAA title this year, the 119-pound title as a junior, and the 112-pound title as a sophomore. Derek finished his season undefeated with 43 wins. He ended his high school career with a record of 186-40. Derek’s GPA is 3.97. Honors and achievements include 2006 NHSCA Sophomore National Champion, FILA Cadet All-American (third), 2007 Rumble on the Red Tournament Champion, and 2008 Mental Aerobics Tournament runner-up. Derek is also a member of the National Honor Society. Future plans are to attend and wrestle for Cornell University. Derek plans on majoring in Applied Economic Management with an emphasis in accounting. Derek’s parents are John and Lisa and his coach is Ross Johnson. |
Kevin Steinhaus, 152 lbs.Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg, 11th Kevin is a two-time state champion, a three-time finalist, and a four-time placewinner. He won the 152-pound Class A title this year and the 145-pound title as a sophomore. Kevin also placed third at 130 pounds as a freshman and second at 112 pounds as an eighth-grader. Kevin finished his season undefeated with 47 wins. His current career record is 196-12 (94.2 win %). Kevin’s GPA is 3.92. Honors and achievements include 2008 MWCA Academic All-State, 2008 NHSCA Junior National Championships runner-up, three-year team captain, and 2008 MWCA Academic State Champion team member. Kevin is also a member of the National Honor Society. Kevin plans to wrestle in college but is undecided on where. Kevin’s parents are Mike and Suzanne and his coach is Wes Haglund. |
Cole Von Ohlen, 130 lbs.Jackson County Central, 12th Cole is a two-time state champion and a three-time finalist. He won the 130-pound Class A title this year and the 119-pound title as a Junior. Cole also placed second at 103 pounds as a sophomore. Cole had an impressive season record of 47-1. He ended his high school career with a record of 162-16 (91 win %). Cole’s GPA is 3.9. Honors and achievements include two-time The Clash All-Tournament Team, Rumble on the Red Tournament Champion, two-time Minnesota Christmas Tournament runner-up, 2008 MWCA Academic All-State. Future plans are wrestling at Division I Air Force in Colorado Springs, CO. Cole’s parents are Nick and Ellen and his coach is Randy Baker. |
Cody Lensing, 112 lbs.Totino-Grace, 12th Cody is a four-time state entrant and two-time placewinner. He was the Class AA 112-pound runner-up this year. Cody had a season record of 43-3. He ended his high school career with a record of 151-34. Cody’s GPA is 4.14. Honors and achievements include team captain, four-time Section champion, North Suburban Conference All-Conference and Outstanding Wrestler, MWCA All-State Academic, and Totino-Grace Most Valuable Wrestler. Cody is also a member of the National Honor Society. Future plans are wrestling at Augustana College in Sioux Falls, SD. Cody is interested in a health care career field. Cody’s parents are Merl and Rosemary and his coach is Doug Svihel. |
Zach Loppnow, Hwt lbs.Lake City, 12th Zach is a three-time state entrant winning the Class AA title this year. He placed sixth at heavyweight as a junior. Zach had an impressive season record of 37-1. He ended his high school career with a record of 101-20. Zach’s GPA is 3.93. Honors and achievements include MWCA All-State Academic, two-time All-Conference, Excel Award Winner, Triple “A” Award Winner, and Spotlight on Scholarship Gold Award. Zach is also a member of the National Honor Society. Future plans are wrestling at the University of Minnesota. Zach is interested in structural engineering. Zach’s parents are Rann and Val and his coach is Lonnie West. |
Kevin O’Brien, 145 lbs.Becker, 11th Kevin won the Class AA title this year at 145 pounds. He is a two-time state entrant. Kevin finished his season undefeated with 41 wins. His current career record is 133-27. Kevin’s GPA is 3.83. Honors and achievements include football and wrestling team captain, member of the national champion Minnesota Storm Greco team, four-time Academic All-Conference, and four-time All-Conference. Future plans are pursuing an engineering degree while wrestling at a Division I school. Kevin’s parents are Ken and Lois and his coach is Brad Novak. |
Eric Yngsdal, 140 lbs.Byron, 12th Eric won the Class AA title this year at 140 pounds. He is a five-time state entrant placing third at 135 pounds as a junior. Eric had an impressive season record of 44-2. He ended his high school career with a record of 191-32. Eric’s GPA is 3.78. Honors and achievements include 2008 Mental Aerobics wrestling tournament champion and Most Outstanding Wrestler, 2007 Guillotine Academic All-State First Team, two-time MWCA All-State Academic, 2007 Greco state champion, and 2006 Rumble on the Red Tournament champion. Eric is also a member of the National Honor Society. Future plans are to wrestle at a four-year college. Eric’s parents are Ron and Karen and his coach is Ryan Radke. |
Tony Nelson, 215 lbs.Cambridge-Isanti, 11th Tony is a three-time state entrant and two-time placewinner. He was the Class AAA 215-pound runner-up this year. Tony had an impressive season record of 41-2. His current career record is 94-18. Tony’s GPA is 4.0. Honors and achievements include 2008 MWCA All-State Academic, 2008 NHSCA Junior National Championships All-American, four-year letter winner, All-Conference, Academic All-Conference, and three-year letter winner at football. Future plans are to wrestle or play football at a four-year college and get a degree in engineering or business. Tony’s parents are Todd and Sandi and his coach is Neil Jennissen. |
Travis Rutt, 171 lbs.Jackson County Central, 12th Travis is a two-time state champion and a five-time placewinner. He won the 171-pound Class A title this year and the 160-pound title as a Junior. Travis also placed third at 130 pounds as a sophomore, fourth at 119 pounds as a freshman, and third at 103 pounds as an eighth-grader. Travis had an impressive season record of 48-1. He ended his high school career with a record of 262-19 (93.2 win %). Travis’ GPA is 3.7. Honors and achievements include Minnesota high school career wins record holder, two-time The Clash All-Tournament Team, two-time Cadet double All-American, two-time MWCA All-State Academic, and USA Wrestling Junior Nationals All-American. Future plans are wrestling at the University of Wisconsin. Travis’ parents are John and Cathy and his coach is Randy Baker. |
Cody Hansen, 112 lbs.Albert Lea Area, 11th Cody is a three-time state entrant and two-time placewinner. He placed third at 112 pounds this year and was the Class AAA 103-pound runner-up last year. Cody had an impressive season record of 46-1. His current career record is 123-31. Cody’s GPA is 4.0. Honors and achievements include three-time Big Nine All-Conference, two-time Minnesota Christmas Tournament champion, 2008 The Clash All-Tournament Team, Straight A honor roll, student council, 2008 MWCA Sll-State Academic, and three-time member of the MWCA Class AAA Academic Team Champions. Cody is also a member of the National Honor Society. Future plans are to go to a four-year college and maybe wrestle. Cody’s parents are Jon and Vicki and his coach is Larry Goodnature. |
Tossaporn (Boyd) Suparat, 130 lbs.North Branch, 11th Boyd made the most of his first state tournament appearance by winning the Class AA 130-pound title this year. Boyd had a season record of 38-3. His current career record is 124-57. Boyd’s GPA is 3.77. Honors and achievements include first ever state champion from North Branch, two-time All-Conference, ‘A’ honor roll for five years, and school record for most wins. Future plans are to defend his state title next year. Boyd would also like to continue wrestling if he can get a scholarship. Boyd’s parents are Sirichai and Wanphen and his coach is Tony Aho. |
Caleb Lines, 189 lbs.Jackson County Central, 12th Caleb is a three-time state entrant winning the Class A title this year. He placed third at 171 pounds as a junior. Caleb had a season record of 47-3. He ended his high school career with a record of 137-33. Caleb’s GPA is 3.67. Honors and achievements include three-time all-conference for wrestling, two-time all-conference for football, 2006 freestyle and Greco-Roman state champion, 2006 USA Wrestling double All-American, 2007 Greco-Roman All-American, and 2007 Conference Most Valuable Offensive Back for football. Future plans are to wrestle and play football at St. John’s. Caleb is interested in studying pre-med. Caleb’s father is Shane Lines and his coach is Randy Baker. |
Nathan Schmitz, 189 lbs.Perham, 11th Nathan was the Class AA 189-pound runner-up this year. He is a two-time state entrant. Nathan had a season record of 46-3. His current career record is 99-47. Nathan’s GPA is 3.84. Honors and achievements include all-conference for football, All-State Honorable Mention for football, and Most Valuable Linebacker. Nathan is also a member of the National Honor Society. Future plans are to attend a four-year college. Nathan’s parents are Mike and Staci and his coach is Robb Moser. |
Will Johnson, 160 lbs.Hibbing, 12th Will is a three-time state entrant placing third at 160 pounds this year in Class AA. Will had a season record of 42-5. He ended his high school career with a record of 185-61. Will’s GPA is 3.97. Honors and achievements include 2008 MWCA All-State Academic, four-time Mat-King All-Conference First Team, 2008 Mat-King Conference Co-Outstanding Wrestler, Hibbing High School most wins (185) and most pins (99), and Junior Rotarian. Will is also a member of the National Honor Society. Future plans are to attend North Dakota State while wrestling and majoring in business. Will’s parents are Curt and Sunny and his coach is Curt Johnson. |
Jordan Sharp, 215 lbs.Roseau, 12th Jordan was the Class AA 215-pound runner-up this year. He is a two-time state entrant. Jordan had a season record of 35-9. He ended his high school career with a record of 81-32. Jordan’s GPA is 3.9. Honors and achievements include team captain, two-time academic all-conference, captain of football and baseball teams, Homecoming First Attendant, and 2008 Heart O’ Lakes All-Conference for football. Jordan is also a member of the National Honor Society. Future plans are to go to North Dakota State to get an engineering degree and hopefully go on to coach a program somewhere in Minnesota. Jordan’s parents are Joe and Lisa and his coach is Aaron Rose. |
Brad Wollum, HwtCanby, 11th Brad was the Class A heavyweight runner-up this year. He is a two-time state entrant. Brad had a season record of 42-7. His current career record is 69-24. Brad’s GPA is 3.81. Honors and achievements include 2008 Hardest Worker, and 2007 Most Improved. Brad is also a member of the National Honor Society. Future plans are to attend a four-year college. Brad’s parents are Roger and Karen and his coach is Perry Fink. |
Mitchell Hagen, 160 lbs.Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg, 11th Mitchell is a two-time state entrant placing third at 160 pounds this year in Class A. He also placed sixth at 152 pounds as a sophomore. Mitchell had a season record of 43-5. His current career record is 119-62. Mitchell’s GPA is 3.89. Honors and achievements include team captain, and 2008 MWCA Academic State Champion team member. Mitchell is also a member of the National Honor Society. Future plans are to wrestle in college. Mitchell’s parents are Shawn and Kris and his coach is Wes Haglund. |
Eric Croatt, 171 lbs.Ortonville, 12th Eric was the Class A 171-pound runner-up this year. He is a two-time state entrant. Eric had an impressive season record of 41-1. He ended his high school career with a record of 165-59. Eric’s GPA is 3.8. Honors and achievements include Ortonville team records for most career wins (165), falls (96), team points (1,141.5), and wins in a season (41). Eric is a two-time academic state champion. Future plans are to attend North Dakota State for Civil Engineering. Eric would like to possibly wrestle and play football. Eric’s parents are Tom and Lori and his coach is Joe Eustice. |
Sam Moenkedick, 160 lbs.Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale, 12th Sam is a three-time state entrant placing second at 160 pounds this year in Class A. Sam had a season record of 40-5. He ended his high school career with a record of 156-45. Sam’s GPA is 3.77. Honors and achievements include 2007 football all-conference and all-state. Sam’s parents are Greg and Tina and his coach is Mike Barthel. |
Carter Adams, 145 lbs.Coon Rapids, 11th Carter is a three-time state placer winning the Class AAA title this year. He placed third at 135 pounds as a sophomore and sixth at 112 pounds as an eighth-grader. Carter had a season record of 43-4. His current career record is 158-46. Carter’s GPA is 3.54. Honors and achievements include three-time all-conference, one-time all-conference honorable mention, and MWCA All-State Academic. Future plans are undecided right now. Carter’s parents are Ron and Bobbi and his coach is Bob Adams. |
Ryan Timmerman, 125 lbs.Saint Peter, 12th Ryan is a two-time state finalist and a three-time state entrant. He was the Class AA 125-pound runner-up this year as a senior and the 119-pound runner-up as a junior. Ryan had an impressive season record of 40-2. He ended his high school career with a record of 141-27. Ryan’s GPA is 3.76. Honors and achievements include 2007 Guillotine Academic All-State First Team, and career wins record holder at St. Peter (141). Ryan is also a member of the National Honor Society. Future plans are to attend St. Olaf College in Northfield for an engineering degree and to wrestle. Ryan’s parents are Joel and Lynn and his coach is Keith Hanson. |
Jason Engstrom, 215 lbs.Coon Rapids, 12th Jason is a two-time state entrant placing third at 215 pounds this year in Class AAA. Jason had a season record of 40-11. He ended his high school career with a record of 95-49. Jason’s GPA is 3.86. Honors and achievements include 2006 Minnesota Triple Crown winner, 2007 MN First Team All-State Football Selection – defensive tackle. Future plans are to play football for Augustana in Sioux Falls on a full-ride scholarship. Jason’s parents are Deb and Jon and his coach is Bob Adams. |
Robert Fisher, 125 lbs.Bloomington Kennedy, 11th Robert is a two-time state entrant winning the Class AAA 125-pound title this year. He placed fourth at 119 pounds as a sophomore. Robert had a season record of 37-5. Robert’s GPA is 3.59. Honors and achievements include 2008 all-conference for wrestling and 2008-09 team captain for wrestling and cross country. Robert is also a member of the National Honor Society. Future plans are to wrestle in college, become an athletic trainer, and to coach some day. Robert’s parents are Troy and Allison and his coach is Charles Vavrosky. |
Nathan Lexvold, 135 lbs.Kenyon-Wanamingo, 12th Nathan is a four-time state entrant winning the Class A title this year. He placed second at 103 pounds as a sophomore and fifth at 103 pounds as a freshman. Nathan finished his season undefeated with 45 wins. He ended his high school career with a record of 186-47. Nathan’s GPA is 3.49. Honors and achievements include two-year team captain, HVL All-Conference and Academic All-Conference - four years, 2008 SEMWREC Outstanding Wrestler, 2008 KTTC Wrestler of the Week, never missed a practice grades 7-12, FFA State Farmer Award, and FFA State Dairy Judging. Future plans are to attend college for Business Management and wrestle. Nathan’s parents are Wayne and Donna and his coach is Matt Ryan. |
Alex Kontz, 140 lbs.Canby, 12th Alex is a three-time state entrant and two-time placewinner. He was the Class A 140-pound runner-up this year. He placed fourth at 140 pounds as a junior. Alex had a season record of 46-3. He ended his high school career with a record of 196-65. Alex’s GPA is 3.65. Honors and achievements include conference champion and winningest wrestler in Canby history. Alex is also a member of the National Honor Society. Future plans are to attend St. Cloud State for Aviation. Alex’s parents are Gary and Cheryl and his coach is Perry Fink. |
Logan Hansen, 171 lbs.Albert Lea Area, 12th Logan placed fourth at state this year at 171 pounds in Class AAA. It was his first state tournament appearance. Logan had a season record of 41-6. He ended his high school career with a record of 99-41. Logan’s GPA is 4.0. Honors and achievements include three-time Big Nine All-Conference, led team in takedowns this year, The Clash Tournament National Scholar/Athlete, MWCA scholarship recipient, FFA Chapter, Student Council, National Merit Commended Scholar, and ACT score of 36. Logan is also a member of the National Honor Society. Future plans are to attend Gustavus or Wartburg College to study physics and play football or wrestle. Logan’s parents are Michael and Dorenne and his coach is Larry Goodnature. |
Adam Ourada, 152 lbs.Wabasso, 12th Adam is a three-time state entrant and two-time placewinner. He was the Class AA 152-pound runner-up this year. He placed sixth at 130 pounds as a sophomore. Adam had a season record of 41-4. He ended his high school career with a record of 145-54. Adam’s GPA is 3.7. Honors and achievements include team captain, team “Most Improved” and “Most Valuable Player”, member of state runner-up team, two-time KNUJ Player of the Week, and New Ulm Journal Wrestler of the Year. Future plans are to attend North Dakota State University in Fargo, ND. Adam plans to enter the field of Engineering with an emphasis in Computer Engineering. Adam’s parents are Dave and Judy and his coach is Gary Hindt. |
Chris Stevermer, 145 lbs.Prior Lake, 11th Chris is a two-time state entrant placing fifth at 145 pounds this year in Class AAA. He also placed sixth at 140 pounds as a sophomore. Chris had a season record of 44-6. His current career record is 134-40. Chris’s GPA is 4.07. Honors and achievements include two-year team captain, four-time all-conference, two-time team “Most Dedicated”, three-time Missota All-Academic, 2007 NHSCA Sophomore National Championships All-American, and 2007 Cadet National Team Minnesota member. Future plans are wrestle at a four-year college. Chris’s parents are Pat and Sherry and his coach is Joe Block. |
Billy Morgan, 189 lbs.Rosemount, 12th Billy is a three-time state entrant winning the Class AAA title this year. He placed second at 189 pounds as a junior. Billy finished his season undefeated with 40 wins. He ended his high school career with a record of 127-30. Billy’s GPA is 3.49. Honors and achievements include 2008 Pioneer Press All-State, three-time all-conference, two-time conference MVP, 2007 Guillotine Academic All-State Second Team, school record for most team points, school record for takedowns in a season, and two-time all-conference for football. Billy is also a member of the National Honor Society. Future plans are to attend college at either Bethel, St. Thomas, NDSU, or Concordia and major in either International Business or Sports Medicine. Billy plans to play football and perhaps wrestle. Billy’s parents are Chip and Jane and his coach is Brett Larson. |
