JACKSON - High school wrestling in Jackson County is approaching its 50th anniversary.
Jackson High School’s program began in the fall of 1959, with the program in Lakefield starting in 1964.
As part of the celebration of the history of the sport in the area,
plans are under way to establish a Wrestling Hall of Fame in Jackson
County.
The inaugural group of inductees will be honored at a ceremony at the
Jackson County Central Performing Arts Center on Thursday, Dec. 6,
prior to the Huskies’ dual meet with Blue Earth Area that night.
The public is invited to nominate individuals for induction to the Jackson County Wrestling Hall of Fame.
Nominees can be athletes, coaches or contributors to wrestling in Jackson County.
In addition to the induction ceremony prior to the Dec. 6 match, a
social is planned for after the dual at Jackson Golf Club that same
night.
Anyone wishing to make a nomination is asked to contact Randy Baker, Terry Wheeler or Lee Larson, or you can send an email to jcwhof@hotmail.com.
Also, anyone willing to share wrestling memorabilia such as photos,
scrapbooks, videos, etc. is asked to contact any of people listed above.
It’s asked that nominees be submitted by Oct. 14. A committee has been
formed to select the first class of members, with the selection
expected to be made by the end of the month.
