Central Minnesota’s Top Class AAA Teams
1. Cambridge-Isanti Blue Jackets
The Blue Jackets topped Mississippi 8 foes Becker 50-24, Buffalo 51-15
and Princeton. The Jackets topped the field of teams at their dual meet
invitational with wins over North Branch 52-18, St. Cloud Apollo 56-12
and for the championship highly regarded Scott West 28-24. Adam
Kelling, Chad Larson, Tyler Swanson, Dalton Lilledahl, Tony Nelson and
Kyle Groves were all 3-0 at the Blue Jackets Duals.
2. Alexandria Cardinals
The Cardinals topped a pair of Section 8AAA foes; Moorhead 52-14,
Bemidji 47-27 and Central Lakes Conference foe Little Falls 47-18. They
did drop a dual to highly regard Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale 39-36.
3. Brainerd Warriors
The Warriors topped a pair of Central Lakes Conference foes Willmar
57-18 and Rocori 52-21. They had an excellent showing at the Elk River
tourney with 190.5 points to earn second place with eleven wrestlers
placing in the top four. Jake Patnode, Nick Lingwall, Scott Padrnos and
Brandon Mutz all won championships and Kyle Anderson, Aaron Padrnos and
Andrew Wachsmuth all earned second place. Sam Pagel and Chad Ohman both
earned third place and Greg Flickenger and Jesse Franzen both took
fourth place.
4. Buffalo Bison
The Bison topped Section 8AAA foe St. Cloud Apollo 35-33 and they lost
a very close dual to St. Cloud Tech another 8AAA rival 36-35. They
dropped duals to Mississippi 8 foes Cambridge 51-15, Big Lake 56-12 and
Monticello.
5. St. Cloud Apollo
The Eagles topped their biggest rival and Central Lakes Conference foe
St. Cloud Tech 53-15, Sauk Rapids for the first time in several years
40-30 as well as Willmar 44-26. They dropped a very close dual to
Section 8AAA foe Buffalo 35-33. The Eagles earned fourth place at the
Blue Jacket duals with a win over North Branch 42-31. They dropped a
pair of duals to Cambridge 56-12 and to Centennial 55-12. Mitch
Bengston and Matt Spoden were both unbeaten at the Blue Jacket Duals.
6. Sauk Rapids Storm
The Storm had a great showing at the Apple Valley tourney where they
earned fifth place with 115 points and eight wrestlers placing in the
top five. Including a pair of championships by Wes Voigt and Tyler
Spiczka, and Shane Fesenmaier, Cody Lane and Evan Warnert all earned
third place. Chris Helgeson, Jeremiah Tripp and John Gans all took
fifth place. The Storm topped Central Lakes Conference foe and rival
there biggest Sartell 39-24.
7. Bemidji Lumberjacks
The Lumberjacks earned second place at the Prowler Invitational at
Thief River Falls with 154 points and five wrestlers placing in the top
two. Winning championship were Lance Richter, Brandon Bahr and Steve
Masterson. Earning second place were Dale Norton and Corey Huber. The
Lumberjacks dropped duals to Section 8AAA rival Alexandria 47-27,
Bertha Hewitt/Verndale 36-33 and to Class A power Greenbush/Middle
River/Badger 37-36. They topped Section 8AAA rival St. Cloud Tech 44-21.
8. Elk River Elks
The Elks topped Robbinsdale Cooper 50-22, they dropped a dual to
Section 7AAA foe St. Francis 40-26 and to Osseo 42-22. They had a good
showing at their Elks Invitational with 142 points to earn third place
with nine wrestlers placing in the top four. Mitch Hauge earn an
championship and Eric Stevens, Zak Hertz, and Tyler Stevens all earned
second place and Nick Madsen earned third place. Jake Kolar, Wade
Forde, Holton Lubinski amd Eric Klaers all took fourth place.
9. St. Cloud Tech Tigers
The Tigers topped Section 8AAA foe Buffalo 36-35 and they lost to their
biggest rival Central Lakes Conference foes St. Cloud Apollo 53-15 and
Fergus Falls 49-16. They had a great showing at the St. Paul Humboldt
Hawk Duals by earning third place with three big wins over Woodbury
33-31, Princeton 59-19 and St. Paul Humboldt 43-28. They dropped one
dual to Northfield 48-28. Luke Laudenbach and Mitch Voigt were both
unbeaten at the Hawk duals.
10. Moorhead Spuds
The Spuds dropped a dual to Section 8AAA foe Alexandria 52-14. They
were 0-3 at the Detroit Lakes Duals, losing to Thief River Falls 60-16,
Little Falls 75-3 and Crosby-Ironton 45-28.
Central Minnesota’s Top Class AA Teams
1. Foley Falcons
The Falcons topped three Section 6AA foes Sartell 62-9, Melrose 72-3
and Albany in a very good dual 35-26. They had a very impressive
showing at the West Central North Conference Tourney with 227 points to
earned the championship with thirteen wrestlers placing in the top
four. Jacob Bowland, Cory Foss, Kris Olson and Jordan Linn all won
championships and Brandon Seppelt, Jeremy Weber, Zach Jackson, Justin
Bowland, Kevin Beehler and Mike Siegler all earned second place. Sam
Keeler and Josh Seppelt both earned third place and Matt Dunlap took
fourth place.
2. Saint Michael-Albertville Knights
The Knights dropped a close dual to highly regarded Simley 33-27. They
earned third place at the Hutchinson tourney with 158.5 points and
seven wrestlers placing in the top four including championships by Kyle
Salonek, David Thorn and Jordan Campa. Kyle Schumm earned second place
and both Jake Horn and Jake Lillie earned third place and Ben Horn took
fourth place. They topped Mississippi 8 Conference foe Becker 51-13 and
Section 5AA foe Totino Grace 42-17.
3. New London-Spicer Wildcats
The Wildcats topped West Central Conference North and Section 6AA foe
Albany in a very good dual 36-24. They had a very impressive showing at
their Wildcat Invitational with 254 points and thirteen wrestlers
placing in the top four. They topped highly regarded Dassel Cokato and
defending Class A state champions Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City. They won
seven championships including Chad Henle, Shawn Hatlestad, Luke Reiter,
Billy Dean, Brandon Keller, John Nething and Andrew Blomker. Chase
Austvold, Chris DeLong and Zach Borke all earned second place and Levi
Schultz earned third place. Both Tom Duscher and Dylan Hanson took
fourth place. The Wildcats had a very good showing at the West Central
North Conference Tourney with 193 points to earn second place with
eleven wrestlers placing in the top four. Chad Henle won the
championship at 119 pounds and he was also voted by the coaches as the
Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament. John Nething and Chase Austvold
both won championships and Shawn Hatlestad, Billy Dean and Dylan Hanson
all earned second place. Luke Reiter, Brnadon Keller, Chris DeLong and
Levi Schultz all earned third place and Cody Haugen took fourth place.
4. Milaca Wolves
The Wolves topped Mississippi 8 Conference foes Monticello 33-21 and
Zimmerman 81-0. They had a very impressive showing at the Mustang Duals
in Mounds View with four big wins over AAA foes including Park Cottage
Grove 82-0, Spring Lake Park 61-10 and Mounds View 60-8. They dominated
highly regard Eagan 53-10, a team that defeated them in the same
tourney a year ago. Denver Rogalla was 3-0 and he won his 100th Career
Match. Carter Ash, David Fradette, Mike Kelly, Mitch Nelson, Dennis
Taute, Ammoren Dohm and Roy Ash were all unbeaten at the Mustang Duals.
The Wolves topped Section 7AA foe Mora 67-12 and Rocori 73-0.
5. Fergus Falls Otters
The Otters topped Central Lake Conference foes Sartell 46-16 and St.
Cloud Tech 49-16. They had a very good showing at the Lake Park/Audubon
Terry Teiken Tourney with 210 points to earn second place. The Otters
had ten wrestlers place in the top four including championships by Drew
Ross, Josh Campion and Ryan Jacobson. Dan Revering, Matt Laugen both
earned second place and Charlie Revering, Billy Oehler and Colton
Thorson all earned third place. Jesse Laugen and Bryant Marquedent both
took fourth place. The Otters had a great showing at the Detroit Lakes
Duals with big wins over the host school Detroit Lakes 53-12 and
Crosby-Ironton 51-20. They lost the championship to Section 8AA foe
Thief River Falls 40-32. Ryan Jacobson, Drew Ross, Colton Thorson and
Josh Campion won all three of their matches at the Detroit Lakes duals.
6. Monticello Magic
The Magic dropped a dual to highly regarded Milaca 33-21 and they
topped Mississippi 8 Conference foes Zimmerman 75-6 and Buffalo.
7. Annandale/Maple Lake Lightning
The Lightning topped Wright County Conference foes Waconia 49-30 and
Glencoe-Silver Lake/LP 59-21. They had a great showing at the Eastview
Lightning tourney with 161 points to earn second place with nine
wrestlers placing in the top four. Jake Anderson and Nick Clemence both
won championships and Tyler Wurm and Joe Puncochar both earned second
place. Brian Redemske, Alex Couette and Pete Norlie all earned third
place and Chris Salveson and Corey Salveson both took fourth place. The
Lightning topped Section 6AA foe Willmar 37-25.
8. Dassel-Cokato Chargers
The Chargers dropped a Wright County Conference dual to highly regarded
Watertown-Mayer 41-13. They had a very impressive showing at the
Wildcat Tourney in New London with 203 points to earn second place with
twelve wrestlers placing in the top four. Max Anderson and Chuck
Pokownowski both won championships and Jared Peterson, Travis Munson
and Tony Larson all earned second place. Dan Larson, Sam Pokownowski,
Brandon Fiedler, Zach Peterson, Brandon Opsahl and Tyler Irvin all
earned third place. The Chargers dropped a Wright County Conference
dual to Delano 38-23 and they topped non-conference rival Hutchinson
36-35 in a very good dual.
10. Albany Huskies
The Huskies dropped a pair of duals to Section 6AA foes both highly
ranked; Foley 35-26 and New London-Spicer; both were excellent duals.
The Huskies had a very impressive showing to earn the championship at
the Osakis Duals with huge wins over Walker-Hankensack/Akley/Nevis
62-9, Pequot Lakes/Pine River/Backus 51-19 and Aitkin 38-37 in the
championship. Kurt Schlangen was named the Outstanding Wrestler and
Scott Groetsch won the Fall Award (3 Falls 3:34). Matt Dowell, John
Bredeck, Brandon Panek Taylor Holthaus and Keith Maciejewski were all
also unbeaten at the Osakis Duals. The Huskies had a good West Central
North tourney with 166 points to earn fourth place with ten wrestlers
placing in the top four. Keith Maciejewski and Jamie Holt both won
championships and Matt Dowell and Kurt Schlangen both earned second
place. John Bredeck, Bryan Schlangen, Kyle Litchy and Scott Groetsch
all earned third place. Brandon Panek and Matt Blackmore both took
fourth place.
10. Pequot Lakes/Pine River/Backus Road Crew
The Road Crew dropped a dual to Park Region Conference foe
Browerville/Eagle Valley 47-24. They did earn fourth place at the
Osakis duals with a win over the host team Osakis 37-36. The lost to a
very good Albany team 51-19 and to Browerville/Eagle 55-25. Marcus
Hernandez was the lone Road Crew wrestler that was unbeaten at the
Osakis Duals.
11. Mora Mustangs
The Mustangs topped Ogilvie 51-23 and Rocori 67-12 in dual meet action
They dropped a dual to Section 7AA foe highly ranked Milaca 42-19
12. BOLD/BLH Warriors
The Warriors topped West Central South Conference foe Montevideo 41-24.
They dropped a pair of duals to West Central South Conference foe
Yellow Medicine East 48-9 and a very good Class A team
Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale 35-34. The Warriors had a very good showing at
the West Central South Conference tourney with 154.5 points to earn
fourth place. They had eight wrestlers place in the top four including
two championships by Sam Steffel and Jon Caspers. Dusty Caspers earned
second place and Cody Hatch, Jacob Revier, Kyle Schulte and Brett
Jahnke all earned third place and Zach Revier took fourth place.
Litchfield Dragons
The Dragons topped Wright Conference foes Glencoe-Silver Lake/LP 42-29
and Waconia 41-30. They had a good showing at the Hutchinson tourney
with 105 points to earn seventh place with seven wrestlers placing in
the top four. Brandon Skalberg and Tanner Sittig both earned second
place and David Cox earned third place. Kyle Ballard, Damian Heairet,
John Binsfeld and Kody Kalkbrenner all took fourth places.
Central Minnesota’s Top Class A Teams
1. Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg Fighting Saints
The Fighting Saints topped Camden Conference foes Minneota 42-36 and
Renville County West 53-17 and they dominated AA rival Willmar 46-24.
They earned second place in a very exciting Camden Conference tourney
with 199.5 points and ten wrestlers placing in the top four. Joel
Bauman, Cody Kinney, Brad Kneisl and Kevin Steinhaus all won
championships and Chris Braaten, Matich Hagen, Aaron Zimmer, Spencer
Almen and Kurt Timmons all earned seconds. Klinton Van Heuveln took
fourth place at the conference tourney. The Fighting Saints won the
Camden Dual meet championship with an excellent showing to defeat
section rival Canby 33-24.
2. Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City Falcons
The Falcons topped Section 5A foes Minnewaska 45-26 and Osakis 50-13
along with a huge win over West Central South Conference foe Morris
Area/Hancock 60-9. The Falcons earned third place at the Wildcat
Invitational at New London with 184.5 points and ten wrestlers placing
in the top four. Ben Meyer, Nick Leither, Micah Larson and Travis
Fredericksen all won championships and Jeremy Anderson earned second
place. Hayden Rouser, Michael Kramer and Scott Litzau all earned third
place and Travis Whitcomb and Dave Litzau both took fourth place. The
Falcons earned third place at the West Central South Conference tourney
with 158 points and seven wrestlers placing in the to four. Including
championships by Nic Leither, Ben Meyer, Jeremy Anderson and Travis
Frederickson, Hayden Rouser and Micah Larson both earned second and
Travis Whitcomb earned third place.
3. Paynesville Bulldogs
The Bulldogs topped a pair of West Central North Conference foes Sauk
Centre 53-12 and Long Prairie-Grey Eagle 60-9. The Bulldogs had a good
showing at the West Central North Conference Tourney with 179 points to
earned third place behind highly rated AA foes Foley and New
London-Spicer. They had eleven wrestlers place in the top four
including three championships by Jordan Christian, Jon Kerzman and Cory
Spanier. Andrew Moser and Dylan Sheridan both earned second place and
Dustin Sieben, Jeff Albright, Jordan Spaeth and Michael Doom all earned
third place and Ryan Gale and Hayden Spaeth both took fourth place.
4. Yellow Medicine East Sting
The Sting topped West Central South Conference foes BOLD/BLH 48-9 and
Benson 47-24 along a big win over highly regarded
Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale 37-23. The Sting came up with a very outstanding
performance to top the field at the West Central South Conference
tourney with 197.5 points. They had ten wrestlers place in the top four
including championships by Dylan Hoffman, Casey Field, Evan Stock and
Martin Hagen, Phil Johnson and Austin Cole both earned second place.
Ethan Sander and Tanner Aus both earned third place and Calvyn Mooney
and Blake Dandurand both took fourth place.
5. Minnewaska Lakers
The Minnewaska Lakes have a win over West Central South Conference foe
LQPV 60-12 and they dropped a good dual to another West Central South
Conference foe Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City 45-26. The Lakers had a solid
performance to earn second place with 178.5 points at the West Central
South Conference tourney with ten wrestlers placing in the top four.
Dan Braaten and Colin Jergenson both won championships, David Bond,
Brandon Manderschied and Justin Frederick all earned second place. Cam
Schafer, Frank Martin and Austin Otto earned third places and Shawn
Rutten took fourth place.
6. Aitkin Gobblers
The Gobblers topped Great River Conference foe Rush City 67-12 and
Section 7A foe Pierz 49-24. The Gobblers topped non-conference
Staples-Motley 45-33 before dropping a very close dual to Section 7A
foe Crosby-Ironton 41-30. They earned second place at the Osakis duals
with wins over Ottertail Central 59-12 and Browerville/Eagle Valley
45-29 before dropping the championship to a very solid Albany team
38-37. Keith Wasserzieher, Justin Chouanard, Andrew Hallberg and Matt
Christensen were all unbeaten at the Osakis duals. The Gobblers topped
the field of fourteen teams at the Skip Nalan Invitational at Grand
Rapids with 168 points and with six wrestlers placing in the top three.
KeithWasserzieher, Justin Chounard and Matt Christensen all won
championships. Dalton Stevens and Nathan Cummings both earned second
place and Andrew Hallberg earned third place.
7. Wadena/Deer Creek Wolverines
The Wolverines topped Section 6A foes New York Mills 33-30,
Wheaton-Herman/Norcross and Breckenridge 46-33. They dropped a
Mid-State Conference dual to rival Park Rapids 42-35.
8. Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale Raiders
The Raiders topped Park Region Conference foe United North Central
69-6, BOLD/BLH 35-34 and No. 10 ranked AAA Alexandria 39-36. They
dropped a close dual to Lean and Mean Bemidji 36-33 and to No. 12A
ranked Yellow Medicine East 37-23. The Raiders dropped a Park Region
Conference and Section 6A rival New York Mills 33-30.
9. Osakis Silverstreaks
The Silverstreaks topped Wheaton-Herman/Norcross 40-39 before dropping
a dual to No. 4 Class A ranked Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City 50-13. They
earned fifth place at their own dual meet invitational with a wins over
Ottertail Central 51-15 and WHAN 57-18. They dropped a very close dual
to Pine River/Pequot Lake/Backus 37-36. Clinton Wiener, Bret Joarnt and
David Hagen were all unbeaten for the Silverstreaks at their
invitational. The Silversteaks topped Section 5A foes Howard
Lake-Waverly/Winsted and Holdingford. They dropped a dual to highly
regarded AAA Owatonna and to Section 5A foe Howard Lake/Waverly/Winsted
32-30. They did get a win over a Section 5A foe Holdingford 48-19.
Wendell Larson, Cole Erie, Clinton Wiener, Isaia Duchene and Jason
Johnson were all unbeaten in the quadrangular.
10. New York Mills Eagles
The Eagles topped Park Region Conference and Section 6A foes Ottertail
Central 53-15 and Parkers Prairie 59-18 along with Pelican Rapids
46-21. They topped Park Region Conference and Section 6A foe
Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale 35-24 and they did drop a Section 6A dual to
their rival Wadena-Deer Creek 33-30.
11. Browerville/Eagle Valley Broncos
The Broncos topped Pequot Lake/Pine River Backus 47-24 in a match up of
Park Region Conference teams. They earned third place at the Osakis
duals with wins over Melrose 48-25 and Pequot Lakes/Pine River/Backus
55-25. They dropped the semifinal dual to AA Lean and Mean Albany
45-29. The Broncos topped Crosby-Ironton 45-24 and Hawley 62-9.
12. Royalton Royals
The Royals topped Central Minnesota Conference foe Eden Valley-Watkins
40-24 and Section 7A foes Rush City 52-19 and St. Croix Lutheran 66-12.
They had a impressive showing at the Rick Lee tourney in Bemidji with
143 points to earn fifth place including six wrestlers in the top four.
Ben Presler, Odin Guerard and Peter Borash all won championships and
Jordan Wentland and Brook Hackett both earned second and Neil Zimmerman
earned third place. The Royals topped Central Minnesota rival Kimball
45-27.
Crosby-Ironton Rangers
The Rangers topped Section 7A foe Aitkin 41-30 and they lost duals to
Mid-State Conference foes Park Rapids 37-35 and Staples-Motley 36-34.
The Rangers topped Walker 41-27 in non-conference dual meet action.
They topped Hawley and lost to Browerville/Eagle Valley 44-24. They had
a good showing at the Detroit Lakes duals with two big wins over AAA
foes Moorhead 45-28 and Spring Lake Park 35-25. They lost to AA Lean
and Mean Fergus Falls 51-20.
Howard Lake/Waverly/Winsted Lakers
The Lakers topped Central Minnesota Conference foes Kimball 45-28,
Holdingford 51-24 and Section 5A foe Osakis 32-30. They have big wins
over Zimmerman 58-17, Ogilvie 51-17, MCRA 55-19, Norwood Young America
36-30. They dropped duals to Section 5A foes Paynesville 46-15 and
Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City 56-12 and non-conference AAA foe Owatonna
32-28. The Lakers had a great showing at the Mayville, ND tourney with
176 points to earn second place with seven wrestlers placing in the top
four including a championship by John Long. Tony Horstmann eanred
second place and earning third place were Cameron Lehner, Jason Koch,
Emmett Lynch and Eric Arlien and Tony Hausladen took fourth place.
