STMA Coach steps down after 28 years

May 19, 2008

Saint Michael-Albertville Coach Gregg Greeno is stepping down as the Knights wrestling coach after 28 years.

In nearly three decades with Greeno at the helm, STMA did not have a losing season. His teams placed at the State Tournament sixteen times including six championships. Greeno's career dual record of 537-95-2 puts him at number five on Minnesota's career coaching wins list.

"I leave with no qualms whatsoever, other than I'll miss coaching wrestling at STMA," said Greeno in a email to The Guillotine. "I will still be head cross-country coach and still teach math at STMA HS, and I'll still be around the wrestling program helping out where I can."

Taking over as head coach at STMA is long-time assistant Dan Lefebvre who became co-head coach with Greeno in 2006. Current asssitants are Tony Mallinger, Tony Kenning, Matt Nagel, and Johnny Barthel.
