
Owatonna's Davis featured on instructional wrestling videos

Ames, Iowa-based Championship Productions was in Owatonna this summer producing the instructional DVD series Coaching High School Wrestling.
The 10 DVD series, featuring Owatonna Head Wrestling Coach Scot Davis,
is designed to help fellow high school coaches build a successful
wrestling program.
Helping Davis with demonstrations on the series were three Owatonna
letter-winners from last year's team – Hector Millan, Zach Schreiber
and Justin Duruji. “What great exposure for these kids,” Davis told the
Owatonna People's Press. “They can look at this series the rest of
their lives. They can go buy the tape and see themselves wrestling.”

About Coach Davis
In 22 years at Owatonna High School Scot Davis has built a phenomenal
program. He is the winningest coach in amateur wrestling history
with an 854-129-4 coaching record. Davis was named Wrestling USA
Magazine National Coach of the Year in 2007and was the runner up in
2006. He was also named NHSCA National Coach of the Year in
1998. In 2005, Davis was voted MWCA Class AAA State Coach of the
Year.

2. Practice Planning
Looking for a way to “spice up” your practices? Coach Davis has some
answers for you. Davis presents over 20 drills and games for you to
incorporate into your practice that will develop technique and work on
conditioning. These drills fall into five categories: Stance/Motion, On
the Mat, Getting Off Your Back, Conditioning and Games. Davis takes two
of his wrestlers through each drill pointing out how to run each while
describing the benefits of it. In addition, Davis takes you through his
practice planning philosophy starting with a week-by-week look at
organizing the team from the beginning of the school year up to when
the season starts. He also includes a look at his in-season practice
routine giving you a template to use. These time-tested drills, games

3. Strength & Conditioning for Champions: In-Season, Off-Season and Nutrition Guide
Strength and conditioning training is a vital part of every wrestler’s
success. Coach Davis presents the workout program he incorporates with
great success. He dedicates the bulk of the instruction is dedicated to
the in-season circuit training program. Davis, with head strength coach
Jerry Eggermont, demonstrates the nine-station circuit program that
includes the Plate Workout Series and its six variations. These
exercises not only assist and maintain the work from the off-season
workouts, but also help increase the flexibility and maintain muscular
endurance the wrestlers will need throughout the season. These
high-intensity lifts are performed at a 1:2 ratio that will give your
athletes a lot of work in a short amount of time and feature lifts for
grip strength, core strength, lower body strength, explosiveness and to
strengthen the “pull muscles.” Davis includes 10 conditioning drills to
work in the room throughout the season to help break the monotony and
help build mental toughness. As a bonus, Davis provides a nutritional
guideline for wrestlers. This is a list of nutritional do’s and don’ts
for daily, match day, pre-match meals and between tournament matches to

4. Stance, Set-ups and Tie-ups
Every wrestler must know a good set-up in order to get to his takedown
finish. State Championship coach Scot Davis demonstrates a variety of
options for your squad to incorporate into their repertoire. In this
two-part DVD, Davis begins with an overview on the proper stance and
them demonstrates five set-up techniques. These include chops,
underhooks, wrist controls and a 2-on-1 Series. The second part of the
DVD, Coach Davis covers his Drag Series, which he uses as both a set-up
and a takedown weapon. He goes through a number of different techniques
that will open up the opponent for a score, and even take him to his
back. Davis also includes some counter techniques and a lateral drop.

5. Takedown Library
Coach Davis presents 11 takedown techniques for you to study and
implement into your program. In his presentation, Davis covers
everything from the basic to the advanced, which allows you to mix and
match technique depending on the style of your wrestler or his
opponent. Included in this demonstration is a single leg series, high
crotch series, fireman’s technique, ankle picks, front headlocks and
more. You’ll see each technique from set-up to finish, and in many
instances Davis includes different finishes based on what the opponent

6. Breakdowns, Rides and Mat Returns
Coach Davis calls on his 22 years of high school wrestling experience
to present over 20 techniques from the top position. In this three-part
DVD, Davis demonstrates techniques for rides, mat returns and
breakdowns that will allow your wrestlers to control their opponent on
the mat. These moves feature spiral and ankle breakdowns, 2-on-1
returns, leg riding and more. Davis clearly demonstrates each move,
pointing out secrets and tips to make each move work. These techniques

7. Escapes and Reversals
National High School Coach of the Year Scot Davis unveils his secrets
for getting out from the bottom position. Coach Davis demonstrates more
than 10 escapes and reversals that can be effective for any level of
wrestler. Some of the techniques he demonstrates include the Inside
Stand-up, Davis’ short sit series, the elevator, a grandby roll and the
unravel. Whether you are looking for the basics on escapes or something

8. Pin to Win
A pin is the most exciting move in wrestling, it can change the
momentum for your team and really excite the crowd. Coach Davis
demonstrates seven different pinning techniques for you to dominate on
top. Included are an arm bar series, a hammerlock series, the spladle,
pinning with the legs and Owatonna’s signature high half series. Davis
provides a number of different finishes with each series so you can
earn the fall from any situation. 2008.
9. Cradles and Tilts
The cradle is a great way to rack up points, and is available in almost
any situation. Coach Davis walks you through a number of his favorite
cradle techniques that he teaches in his room. He begins with an
Owatonna favorite, the Crossface cradle. He shows the correct technique
and then has his wrestlers demonstrate a number of different finishes
based on what the opponent does underneath. He also includes a section
on errors and corrections for the Crossface and counters for it. Other
cradle series that Davis demonstrates include the False Cradle, Near
Side Cradle, Step Through Cradle, Low Leg Cradle and Roll Through. In
addition Davis presents his tilt series with five different finishes.

Coach Davis’ goes deep into his wrestling knowledge to teach you a
number of defensive techniques to keep your wrestler’s opponent from

specifically stopping singles (high and low), doubles, high crotch and
