Central Minnesota Mat Rats Early December Report (14th Annual)

Coaches, please keep me informed of your team's success throughout the season. With each edition, I would like to share their success in The Central MN Report. Central Minnesota’s Top Class AAA Teams

1. Cambridge-Isanti Blue Jackets
The Blue Jackets got off to a solid start to their season with a huge win over Mississippi 8 conference rival Monticello 49-18. They traveled to White Bear Lake for a quadrangular where they topped three foes including; Hibbing 40-30, Mahtomedi 44-24 and White Bear Lake 58-6. The Blue Jackets actually used 27 different wrestlers in these varsity duals; they had Tyler Tischer go 3-0 and Tyl Torgerson, Kyle Hay, Adam Kelling, Derek Swanson, Scott Gifford and Tony Nelson win a pair of matches. The Blue Jackets traveled to Wayzata where they topped three foes Adrian 40-28, Wayzata 48-10 and Watertown-Mayer 62-10, before dropping the championship to Apple Valley 45-21. Clayton Jennissen, Tony Nelson and Jared Vincent were all 4-0 and Scott Gifford, Tyler Tischer, Joe Holmberg, Adam Kelling and Dalton Lilldahl were all 3-1 at Wayzata.

2. Alexandria Cardinals
The Cardinals had a great start to their season at the Litchfield tourney by earning second place with 176 points. They had ten wrestlers place in this event including championships by Taylor Morical, Tom Bouressa and Charlie Kirscht. Josh Hobbs earned second place and Josh Betterman earned third place and Lucas Betterman, Isaac Meyer and Kyle Fulghum all took fourth place. Taking fifth place were Riley Gustafson and Anthony McQueen. The Cardinals had a strong showing at the 12 team Grant County Tourney earning 173 points for second place. They had nine wrestlers place in the top five including a pair of championships by Tom Bouressa and Charlie Kirscht. Taylor Morical, Isaac Meyer, Josh Hobbs and Josh Betterman all earned second place and Lucas Betterman earned third place. Cole Ellison took fourth place and Adam Patrick took fifth place.

3. Buffalo Bison
The Bison have had a good start to their season with dual meet wins over section 8AAA foe St. Cloud Tech 43-18 and Rocori 49-18. They also had a great win over Mississippi 8 foe Rogers 42-20. The Bison had a good showing at the Osseo Tourney earning fifth place with 137.5 pts. They had seven wrestlers place in the top four with Tim Ruter and Bruce Manz winning championships. Mike Simeon, David Baker and Dylan Tilburg all earned third place and James Neddemeyer and Brady Maus both took fourth place. The Bison earned the championship at the Chaska invitational with 181 points and eleven wrestlers placing in the top four. Bruce Manz and Tim Ruter both won championships and Mike Simeon, Zach Smith, Nick Vinar, David Baker and James Neddemeyer all earned second place. Dylan Tibury and Tanner Robasse both earned third place and Brady Maus took fourth place.

4. St. Cloud Apollo Eagles
The Eagles had a great start to their season; as they earned third place at the Monticello duals. They topped AA Lean and Mean Monticello 36-26 and AA Lean and Mean Little Falls 38-25. They did drop their semifinal dual in a very close battle with AAA Lean and Mean St. Francis 30-28. Three Eagles were 3-0 on the day Nam Nguyen, Matt Spoden and Matt Shaver. The Eagles had a very exciting week with their huge Central Lakes Conference win over cross town rival St. Cloud Tech 49-18 winning ten matches. Even more exciting for the Eagles as they traveled to Big Lake for a eight team tourney and they earned the championship with 212 points. The Eagles had twelve wrestlers place in the top five including five big championships by Matt Shaver, Matt Spoden, Mitch Bengston, Nam Nguyen and Alex Lawwell. They had five wrestlers earned second place including Nolan Rial, Chris Rocheleau, Sam Koetter, David Then and Nick Stram. Clayton Athman earned third place and Grant Nehring took fifth place.

5. Brainerd Warriors
The Warriors started their season at a very tough Blue Earth Area tourney; involving several ranked wrestlers. They earned sixth place with 132 points and eight wrestlers placing in the top four. Brandon Mutz and Jessen Frinzen both earned seconds, Pat Metzler earned third place, Chad Ohman, Mark Glasby and Luke Boran all took fourth place. Tyler Kohlmeier and Sam Pagel both took fifth place at the Blue Earth Tourney. The Warriors had a very good showing at their Paul Bunyan invitational as they earned fifth place in a field of fourteen teams with 128 points. Six Warrior wrestlers place with Brandon Mutz leading the way with his championship and Sam Pagel earning second place. Luke Boran had a great tourney earning third place, Levi Rubin and Pat Metzler both took fourth place and Chad Ohman took fifth place.

6. Elk River Elks
The Elks are off to a great start with a dual meet win over Section 7AAA foe Blaine 50-26 and Northwest Suburban rival Champlin Park 41-25. They earned fourth place at the very tough Saint Michael-Albertville tourney with 138.5 points. The Elks had eight wrestlers place in the top four with Tyler Stevens winning the championship and Nick Madsen earning second place. Wade Forde, Eric Stevens, Holten Lubinski and Jacob Staffenhagen all earning third places and Robert Erickson and Jory Lubinski both took fourth place. The Elks earned fifth place at the Milaca duals with their win over Albany 45-30. They dropped duals to Stillwater 49-20 and Milaca 48-16.

7. Sauk Rapids Storm
The Storm got off to a pretty solid start going 2-2 at the Monticello duals with wins over Annandale/Maple Lake 36-33 and Minneapolis Southwest 49-21. They dropped duals to Big Lake 42-27 and AAA No. ranked Bloomington Kennedy 56-14. Erik Olson went 4-0 and Shane Fesenmaier, Stephen Bucholz and Cody Lane all were 3-1, had very good tourneys for the Storm. They dropped their Central Conference opener to Fergus Falls 45-33. The Storm had a great tourney at the Milaca duals earning second place with wins over Cloquet 43-13 and Holdingford 34-30. Shane Fesemaier was named the Outstanding Wrestler of the tourney going unbeaten on the day. Also going 3-0 for the Storm were Erik Olson and Jeremiah Tripp.

8. St. Cloud Tech Tigers
They started their season at the always tough Saint Michael-Albertville tourney where they earned sixth place with 107 points and seven wrestlers place in the top five. Three second places were earned by Mitch Voigt, Luke Laudenbach and Tommy O’Brien. Peter Kalla and Deieter Brenner both earned fourth place and Ben Johnson and Nolan Lortz both took fifth place. The Tigers topped Central Lakes Conference rival Rocori 43-30 and they lost to Section 8AAA foe Buffalo 43-18. The Tigers dropped a Central Lakes Conference dual to cross town rival Apollo 18-49. They traveled to Shakopee for a eight team tourney where they earned 97 points and they had five wrestlers place in the top five. Peter Kalla and Luke Laudenbach both earned third place, Nolan Lortz took fourth place and Ben Johnson took fifth place.

9. Moorhead Spuds
The Spuds started their season at the very tough Saint Michael-Albertville tourney with 57 points to earn eighth place. They had seven wrestlers place; Mark Wychor and Ben Gaughan both earned third place and Nick Collum earned fifth place. Jame Golling, Nick Langeberg, Wilson Karlstrom and Matt Magnussen all took sixth places. The Spuds dropped their opening dual to cross town rival Fargo North 48-28.

10. Bemidji Lumberjacks
The Lumberjacks started their season with AA rival Roseau; they ended up a little short, dropping the dual by a 42-33 score. They earned tenth place at the fourteen team tourney at the Brainerd “Paul Bunyan” Tourney with 75.5 points and four wrestlers placing in the top four. Colten Doty earned second place, Corey Huber earned third place, Evan Olson fourth and Jake Crosby took sixth place.


Central Minnesota’s Top Class AA Teams

1. Foley Falcons
The Falcons crushed the field of teams at their dual meet invitational with wins over Cloquet 50-6, Royalton 51-9 and Becker 55-18. They had twenty-four wrestlers wrestle varsity for them on the day and Will Sustercich was the lone wrestler to go 3-0. The Falcons had a pair of impressive North Central Conference duals, crushing Sauk Centre 56-9 and Albany 59-9.  The Falcons must have set some type of record at the Paul Bunyan tourney as they scored 290.5 points and placed ten wrestlers in the finals and they had all fourteen wrestlers place in the top six places. Kris Olson, Zach Jackson, Mitch Dunlap and Mike Siegler all won championships. Cory Foss, Justin Bowland, Brandon Seppelt, Taylor Lewandowski, Mark Gehling and Tyler Jenson all earned second place.  Jeremy Weber earned third place, Taylor Rothfork earned fourth place, Will Sustercich took fifth place and Jordan Bialke took sixth place.

2. Saint Michael-Albertville Knights
The Knights started their season off with a very strong showing as their won their own invitational with 249 points and all fourteen wrestlers placing in the top five. David Thorn, Jordan Campa, Ben Horn, Jake Horn, Kraig Schumm and Dustin Kottke all won championships. Kyle Salonek, Jake Lille and Jordan Scherber earned second place. Cole Sledek earned third place, Carl Salonek and Parker Betts both took fourth place. Mark Frank and Shawn Little both took fifth place. The Knights topped Mississippi 8 Conference rival Monticello 52-13. The Knights earned third place at the Coon Rapids duals with wins over Moundsview 53-12 and Osseo 62-13. They dropped a dual to one of their biggest rivals Scott West 31-21. David Thorn, Jake Lillie and Kriag Schumm were all unbeaten at the Coon Rapids Duals.

3. New London-Spicer Wildcats
The Wildcats topped the field of teams at the Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa tourney with 161 points and eleven place winners. Shawn Hatlestad, Billy Dean and John Nething all won championships and Dylan Hanson, Chase Austvold, Tome Duscher and Zack Borka all earned second. Luke Reiter and Chris Pfau both earned third place and Ben Henle took fourth place. The Wildcats topped two West Central North Conference foes Sauk Centre 60-13 and Melrose 49-6. They topped Litchfield 48-15, before dropping a very close dual to Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City 34-31 at the Litchfield triangular.

4. Milaca Wolves
The Wolves started their season with an impressive win over new West Central Conference North rival Long Prairie-Grey Eagle 57-19. They traveled to the Waconia duals where they topped the host Waconia 51-18 and Shakopee 48-22. In non-conference action they topped Aitkin 46-26 and Cloquet 69-7. The Wolves topped another West Central Conference and former Rum River rival Mora 39-25. The Wolves were impressive with their performance at their dual meet invitational with big wins over Lean and Mean AAA Stillwater 39-27, AAA Elk River 48-16 and AAA Sauk Rapids 49-17. Chris Newgard, Jason Rogalla, David Fradette, Jake Moshco and Ripp Baker were unbeaten at the Wolf duals.

5. Mora Mustangs
The Mustangs had a good start to their season with wins over a pair of Section 7AA foes Chisago Lakes 45-20 and Hibbing 54-15 at the Chisago Lakes Duals where they took second dropping the championship to highly ranked Kenyon-Wanamingo 38-31. Seth Sanftner, Andrew Youngblom, Blake Menard and Derek Carlson were all 3-0 at the Chisago Lakes duals. The Mustangs dropped a West Central North Conference dual to former Rum River rival Milaca 39-25 in a key Section 7AA battle. They earned second place at the Delano invitational with 209 points and thirteen place winners. Ethen Purdy, Blake Menard and Seth Sanftner all won championships, Derek Carlson, Brent Schroeder, Codie LaFromboise and Andrew Youngblom all earned seconds. Ken Kastenbauer, Alex Dahms and Zandh Van Vleet all earned third place and Quentin Van Vleet took fourth place.

6. Little Falls Flyers
The Flyers topped non-conference rival Aitkin 51-25 and Central Lakes Conference foe Willmar 46-27. The Flyers earned fourth place at the Monticello duals with wins over North Branch 42-30 and Annandale/Maple Lake 42-27. They dropped a dual to highly ranked Bloomington Kennedy 40-28 and for third place they lost a very close dual to Central Lakes Conference foe St. Cloud Apollo 30-28. Frank Wilczek, Sam Marcus and Cody Bue were 4-0 and Bryant Bue and Aaron Gastescki were 3-0 and Brandon Heimenz was 3-1 at the Monticello Duals. The Flyers had a very impressive showing at the Paul Bunyan tourney where they earned second place with 162 points. They had ten wrestlers place in the top six in this fourteen team field of teams. Frank Wilczek won their lone championship, Dillon Kifer and Cody Bue both earned second place. Derek Jendro and Brandon Hiemenz both earned third places. Bryant Bue and Sam Marcus both earned fourth place, Zack Clark and Collin Swanson both took sixth place.

7. Fergus Falls Otters
The Otters had a very impressive start to their season by earning 210 points and eleven wrestlers in the field of fourteen teams at the Wahpeton Tourney. Josh Campion won a championship with four falls in 4:42 and Colton Thorson also won a championship with four falls in 3:43. Dan Revering earned second place, Jesse Laugen and Matt Laugen both earned third place. Bryant Marquedant, Jordan Ringquist, Alex Hensch, Ryan Jacobson and Dustin Teberg all earned fourth place and Abbot Aho took fifth place. The Otters topped Central Lakes Conference rival Sauk Rapids 45-33. The Otters earned fourth place at the Grant County Invitational with 158 points and six wrestlers placing in the top three. Three championship by the Otters led the way by; Ryan Jacobson, Jesse Laugen and Colton Thorson. Colton Thorson again had four falls on his way to his championship. Dan Revering earned second place and Alex Hensch and Jordan Ringquist both earned third place.

8. Monticello Magic
The Magic dropped their opening dual to Mississippi 8 Conference foe Cambridge-Isanti 49-18. The Magic were 2-1 at the their dual meet invitational with wins over Big Lake 45-27 and New Ulm 46-30. They dropped one dual to St. Cloud Apollo 36-20. Jacob Kohler, Jake Schmitz, Tyler Mergen, Spencer Lanners and Sabastian Gardner were all 3-0, Ben Schwartz was 2-0 and Randy Ascher was 2-1. The Magic dropped another dual to Mississippi 8 Conference rival Saint Michael-Albertville 52-13. They earned second place at the Big Lake tourney with 191 points and thirteen place winners. Tyler Mergen and Sebastian Gardner both won championships, Spencer Lanners, Logan Draack Jake Schmitz, Ryan Michaelis and Eric Bourgeois all earned second place. Joe Jade, Zach Bond and Jeremiah Erickson all earned fourth place and Jacob Barker took fifth place.

9. Dassel-Cokato Chargers
The Chargers have had a solid start to their season with an impressive showing at the Saint Michael-Albertville tourney with 157 points and eleven wrestlers placing in the top five. Max Anderson and Sam Pokarnowski both won championships, Brandon Fiedler earned second place. They had four third places  earned by Zach Peterson, Tyler Dobmeier, Dakota Hanson and Tyler Irvin. Tyler Nelson took fourth place and Grant Peterson, Marcus Ramus and Dan Wanha all took fifth place. The Chargers turned in a very solid performance at the Prior Lake “Dan Edwards” Tourney with 181 points to earned third place. They had thirteen place winners including three championships by; Max Anderson, Tyler Nelson and Dan Wanha. Brandon Fiedler, Tyler Irvin, Grant Peterson and Sam Porkonowski all earned second place. Zach Peterson, Dakota Hanson and Kyle Johnson all earned third place, Marcus Wanha took fourth place and Mike Rydberg and Marcus Ramos both took fifth place.

10. Dawson-Boyd/LQPV
This coop has proven very successful with their strong start to their season with a win over West Central South Conference foe Benson 37-33 and a very close loss to Paynesville 33-26. They topped New Ulm 59-18 and 3AA foe Marshall 60-9. They topped three foes to earn the Redwood Valley dual meet championship with wins over Tracy-Milroy-Balaton 43-18, Wabasso 37-25 and Red Rock Central 61-9. They continue to turn in strong showings with their championship performance at the Grant County tourney. They score 175 points and had ten wrestlers in the top four of this twelve team field of teams. Ryan Swenson and Jake Bothun both championships, Sam Hass earned second place, Coltne Kanstrup, Dylan Croatt, Josh Staab and Christian Olson all earned third place. Earning fourth places were John Weeding and Boe Stensrud.

11. Litchfield Dragons
The Dragons have had a pretty strong start against some very tough competition; they earned fourth place at their invitational with 143 points and nine wrestlers placing in the top five. Championships by Kody Kalkbrenner, Kyle Ballard and Derek Celander; thirds by Tyler Jones and Damian Heairet. Mark Shepard and Austin Jones took fourth place and Brian Malepsy and John Binsfield both took fifth place. They dropped two duals to 5A ranked Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City 43-21 and to Section 6AA foe New London-Spicer 48-15.

12. North Branch Vikings
The Vikings started their season with North Suburban foe St. Francis where they came up short 49-21. They were 2-2 at the Monticello duals with wins over Big Lake 41-39 and Annandale/Maple Lake 48-25. They dropped a pair of duals to Little Falls 42-30 and New Ulm 39-27. Jake Kostik, Boyd Suparat and John Morrison were all 3-0 at the Monticello duals. They topped three Section 7AA foes Clouquet 42-20, Princeton 51-16 and Hinckley-Finlayson 59-15. The Vikings had an impressive showing at the Big Lake tourney with 184 points to earned third place with thirteen place winners. Jake Kostik, Boyd Suparat and Justin Bergerson all won championships, Patrick Mork and John Morrison both earned second. Taking third place was Tom Mork, Steven Frich, Chad Anderson and Eric Chouinard and four fifth place by Reid Johnson, Joe Blom, Stuart Frick and Andy Freel.


Central Minnesota’s Top Class A Teams

1. Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg Fighting Saints
The Fighting Saints have had a very strong start to their wrestling season after winning a state championship in football. Congratulations on your championship! They topped the field at the Melrose tourney with 259.5 points and thirteen place winners; that included seven championships. Kevin Steinhaus, Mitch Hagen, Brad Kneisel, Matt Stassen, Klinton Van Heuveln, Jordan Rothers and Kurt Timmons all won championships. Jacob Engler, Trevor Mahlum and Tyler Carlson all earned second place, Stuart Johnson took third place and Joey Paulson and John Glansdal took fourth place. They topped the field at the Willmar Cardinal Classic with 205 points and eleven place winners including five championships by Kevin Steinhaus, Joel Bauman, Mitch Hagen, Jacob Engler and Kurt Timmons. Klinton Van Heuveln, Aaron Zimmer and Adam Wentzel all earned second place and Jordan Rothers took third place. Tyler Carlson took fourth place and Trevor Muhlum took fifth place.

2. Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City Falcons
The Falcons had started their season with some very strong performances; including topping the field of teams at their own Falcon invitational with 232 Points and thirteen place winners. Micah Larson, Travis Fredrickson, Matt Meyer, Hayden Rouser, Lee Whitcomb, Travis Whitcomb, Ryan Larson and Dylan Nelson all won championships. Scott Litzau and Matt Lee both earned second place and Michael Kramer and Devon Buboltz both earned third place, Nate Meyer took fourth place.
The Falcons topped Section 5A rivals Paynesville 43-19 and Long Prairie-Grey Eagle 60-12. In their best performance of this young season they topped No. 12AA ranked New London-Spicer 34-31 and Litchfield 43-21.

3. Yellow Medicine East Sting
The Sting had a very good showing in their first event with 131 points and nine wrestlers placing in the top four to earn second place at the Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa tourney. Austin Cole, Dylan Hoffman and Casey Field all won championships, Cody Sander and Evan Knudson both earned seconds. Mason Hegna and Derek Dyrdahl both earned third place and Justin Tongen and Tyler Merritt both took fourth place. The Sting topped West Central Conference foe BOLD 39-24 and they dropped a West Central South Conference dual to Minnewaska 37-30. They earned fourth place at the Willmar Cardinal Classic with 163 points and thirteen place winners. Austin Cole, Dylan Hoffman and Casey Field all won championships and Evan Knudson earned second place. Levi Specht earned third place, taking fourth place were; Cody Sander, Derek Drydahl, Steve Jahnke, Dustin Baker and Tyler Merritt. The Sting had a pair of wrestlers that took fifth place Ethan Ator and Mason Hegna.

4. BOLD Warriors
The Warriors started the season with three dual meet losses at home with AA Lean and Mean Adrian 35-26, Windom Area 37-22 and Minneota 38-21. Alex Steffel and Dustin Caspers were both 3-0 at the Warrior quadrangular. The Warriors topped Minnewaska in a West Central South Conference dual 37-30 and they dropped a Conference dual to Yellow Medicine East 39-24. The Warriors had an outstanding performance at the fourteen team field tourney at Brainerd with 161 points and nine wrestlers placing in the top six to earn third place. Cody Goldschmidt won a championship at 140 and Dustin Caspers and Brent O’Halloran both earned third place, and Kyle Schulte, Cody Hatch and Sam Steffel all earned fourth place. Alex Steffel earned fifth place and Jacob Revier and Brett Jahnke both took sixth place.

5. Minnewaska Lakers
The Lakers topped West Central Conference South foe Yellow Medicine East 37-30 and they dropped a Conference dual to BOLD 46-27. The Lakers had a great showing at the Willmar Cardinal Classic tourney with 178.5 points and twelve place winners to earn second place. Collin Jergenson and Gage Sachs both won championships and Brandon Mandeschied and Anderson Clare both earned second place. Jacob Braaten, Grant Winter, Cam Schafer and Justin Frederick all earned third place. David Cowen, Micah Klemme, Zach Stenfenseon and Patrick Weaver all took fifth place.

6. Paynesville Bulldogs
The Bulldogs have topped West Central Conference South foes Benson 45-24, LQPV/DB 33-26 and Long Prairie-Grey Eagle 60-12. They dropped a conference dual to Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City 49-13. The Bulldogs earned third place at the Foley Falcon duals with wins over Rocori 47-22 and Royalton 42-22. They did drop their semifinal dual to Becker 34-33. Cole Woehler, Jon Kerzman, Andrew Mosher and Dominick Platow all were went 3-0. The Bulldogs were a little shorthanded and yet they earned 146 points and they had ten place winners to take fifth place at the St. James tourney. Dylan Sheridan and Tyler Hemmesch both won championships, Cole Woehler, Jon Kerzman and Andrew Moser all earned second place. Dominick Platow earned third place and Trevor Spanier and Brent Schlangen both earned fourth place. Eric Wolbeck and Justin Wendlandt both took fifth place at the St. James Classic tourney.

7. Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale Raiders
The Raiders are off to a pretty solid start with a win over Park Region Conference rival Parkers Prairie 45-23. They earned fifth place with 110 points and five place winners in the top four at the very tough Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverine Invitational. Matt and Wade Moenkedick both won championships and Amos Schmidt earned second place. Jake Braaten earned third place and Nathan Wiese took fourth place. They dropped a dual to No. 3A ranked Frazee 48-21 and last weekend they went 2-1 at the Park Rapids duals with wins over Park Rapids 45-33 and Blackduck/Cass Lake/Bena 62-9. They Raiders dropped a dual to a solid Hibbing team 48-25. Jake Braaten, Nate Wiese, Matt Moenkedick, Wade Moenkedick and Amos Schmidt were all 3-0 at Park Rapids.

8. Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines
The Wolverines started their season at their own invitational where they earned sixth place with 108 points and had six wrestlers place in the top five. Matt Hagen earned second place, Josh Sweere and Mitch Steffens both earned third place. Derrick Rud earned fourth place and Tony Reunik took fifth place. The Wolverines dropped a dual to No. 2AA ranked Perham 58-15. The Wolverines were 2-1 at the Park Rapids duals with wins over Park Rapids 42-34 and Blackduck/Cass Lake/Bena 61-16. They dropped a dual to a solid Hibbing team 43-31. Mitch Steffens, Jordan Rentz, Jared Wegscheid, Matt Hagen and Eddie Lustila were all 3-0 at Park Rapids.

9. Browerville/Eagle Valley Broncos
The Broncos are off to a bit of a slow start as they open their season minus one of their very good wrestlers. They earned 99 points and five wrestlers placed in the top four for fifth place at the Belgrade-Brooten/Elrosa tourney. Travis  Borchert, Tyler Spychalla and Lucas Kalina all won championships, Brian Denny earned second place and Julius Stone earned third place. They topped Section 5A foe Osakis 48-28 and Royalton 43-21 in dual meet action. The Broncos were missing two of their top wrestlers at the Grant County where they earned sixth place with 118 points. The eight wrestlers placed in the top five with Travis Borchert and Tyler Spycalla both winning championships. Keith Pudwill earned third place, Brad Scheltler earned fourth place and Preston Irsfield, Russ Boldin, Lucas Kalina and Mitch Schuman all took fifth place.

10. Aitkin Gobblers
The Gobblers haven’t have many events thus far but they did down Staples-Motley 40-27 and Great River Conference foe Cloquet 45-18. They dropped duals to Little Falls 51-25 and to Milaca 46-26.

11. Staples-Motley Cardinals
The Cardinals had a very good showing at the Melrose Early Bird tourney where  they had 181 points and they had twelve place winners to earn second place. Jordan Bendson and Devin Becker both won championships, Brandon Sterriker, Ryal Detloff and Dylan Shequen both earned second place. Nick Trout, Blake Petrich, Chandler Trout, Taylor Bendson and Brady Killian all earned third place and Andrew Robben and Jordan Heldman both took fourth place.

Border West Buccaneers
The Buccaneers are off to a bit of a slow start as they took seventh place at the Wahpeton tourney with 112 points and five place winners. Mitchel Andrews won a championship and Will McCarthy earned second place. Zach Fridgen earned third place and Billy Connelly and Gus McCarthy both took fifth place. They topped Section 6A foe West Central Area 48-27. The Buccaneers took fifth place at the Grant County tourney with 132 points and seven place winners. Mitchel Andrews, Will McCarthy and Jacob Poole all won championships. Billy Connelly and Colter Combellich both earned fourth place and Ryan Muphy and Zach Fridgen both took fifth place.

Benson Braves
The Braves started their season with two West Central Conference South losses to Paynesville 45-24 and DB/LQPV 37-33. They had a very strong showing at the MACCRAY Quadrangular with wins over Renville County West 51-22, Maccray 58-19 and Tracy-Milroy-Balaton 36-33. Morgan Staton, Matthew Plumhoff, Brett Hoffman, Ryan Thompson, Brady Wersinger and Dalton Staton were all 3-0 at the MACCRAY quadrangular. The Braves had a very good showing at the Willmar Cardinal Classic tourney with 171 points and twelve place winners. Brett Hoffman and Dalton Staton both won championships and Ryan Thompson and Chris Carruth both earned second. David Tweeten, Brady Werzinger, Morgan Staton and Justin Golden all earned third place and Jesse Lundebeck took fourth place.

Mille Lacs Raiders
The Raiders are off to a strong start with great showing at the Rush City tourney with 225.5 points and thirteen place winners to win the championship. Chase Niesen, Ryan Jones, Ian Pratt and Bobby Kulhanke all won championships. Zach Olson Dillon Whitney and Codey Whitney all earned second place and Mark Francour, Bradley Brown and Dylan Young all earned third place. Matt Gingery and Chris Sammis both took fourth place and Waylon Jensen took fifth place.

Eden Valley-Watkins Eagles
The Eagles have started their season with very strong showings as they had 105 points and had eight place winners to earn third place at the Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa tourney. Joe Holdvogt won the lone championship, Tyler Magedanz and Jeff Dockendorf both earned second place. Jacob Asfeld earned third place and Jacob Forcier, Mike Sullivan, Blaine Meierhofer and Shawn Mattsen all took fourth place. They also had a very good showing at the Litchfield tourney with 155.5 points and twelve placed in the top five to earn third place. Jacob Forcier, Mike Sullivan, Kevin Kramer, Joe Holdvogt and Spencer Faber all earned second place. Jeff Dockendorf and Brandon Walz both earned third place, Zach Blonigeon, Shawn Mattsen, Mike Downham, Jacob Asfield all earned fourth place and Blaine Meierhofer took fifth place. The Eagles were missing a couple of their wrestlers but they still managed to score 113 points and seven place winners to earn sixth place at the Willmar Cardinal Classic Tourney. Jeff Dockendorf won their lone championshp, Jacob Forcier and Joe Holdvogt both earned second place. Jacob Asfield, Jaron Faber and Mike Sullivan all earned fourth place and Brandon Walz took fifth place.
