MAT RATS TOP CLASS AA TEAMS
1. FOLEY FALCONS
The Falcons defeated section 6AA foes Monticello 53-9 and Melrose 48-6
in triangular where they used several varsity wrestlers. They had a
very impressive showing at the Rumble on Red tourney held at the Fargo
Dome. A field of fifty-seven teams started with many brackets that have
at least forty or more wrestlers. They topped the field with 260 points
and eight place winners. Top place winner in this varsity tourney this
season Tyler Lewandowski earned second place with a 5-1 mark for the
tourney. Kris Olson earned third place with a huge 7-1 mark, Mike
Siegler earned third place with a 5-2 mark. Brandon Seppelt earned
fourth place with a 6-2 mark and Cory Foss earned fourth place with a
5-2 mark. Jeremy Weber earned fifth place with an impressive 7-2 mark
and Justin Bowland took seventh place with a 5-2 mark. Mark
Gehling had an impressive showing with his seventh place and a 6-2 mark
for the tourney. Others that had very strong showings but didn’t place
were Richard Fitzpatrick (4-2), Dustin Gilyard (4-2), Jordan Bialke
(4-2), Will Sustercich (2-2), Sam Keeler (3-2) and Tyler Jenson (2-2).
All fourteen wrestlers scored points to edge Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunberg
by just four points. The Falcons just keep turning in outstanding
performances as they topped their big rival and West Central North
Conference foe Milaca 50-9. They crushed four foes at the Buffalo duals
with big wins over North St. Paul 71-8, a pair of section 6AA foes Big
Lake 44-20 and Dassel Cokato 42-18. In the championship they crushed
the No. 12 AAA Alexandria 50-9. Mitch Dunlap, Cory Foss, Richard
Fitzpatrick, Brandon Seppelt, Dustin Gilyard, Jeremy Weber, Justin
Bowland and Kris Olson were all 4-0 at the Buffalo duals.
2. SAINT MICHEAL-ALBERTVILLE KNIGHTS
The Knights topped Mississippi 8 Conference foe Buffalo 50-9 to remain
unbeaten in the conference. The Knights earned fourth place at the
thirty-two team Christmas tourney with 152.5 points and eight place
winners. Jordan Campa and David Thorn led the way as both earned second
place. Kraig Schumm and Parker Betts both earned fourth place and Ryan
Kessler earned sixth place. Carl Salonek, Kyle Salonek and Ben Horn all
took eighth place. The Knights had a good showing despite only posting
a 2-4 mark at The Clash a thirty-two team field including sixteen
nationally ranked teams. They topped Kaukauna, Wisconsin 29-21 (ranked
No. 2 in the State) and Glenbard North 30-20 (No. 2 in the State). They
dropped duals to St. Edwards 43-26 (No. 5 National Ranked), Wisconsin
Rapids 30-24 (No. 3 ranked in the State), High Point, New Jersey 35-26
(34th National ranked), Collins Hills Georgia 41-21 (31st Nationally
ranked). Kraig Schumm was the only unbeaten wrestler going 6-0, Dave
Thorn, Jordan Campa, Jordan Scherber and Parker Betts all were 5-1 for
the Knights. The Knights topped Mississippi 8 Conference foe and rival
Buffalo 50-9 in a big conference dual. They topped Rogers 65-3, Totino
Grace 36-18 and Rockford 43-18 all Section 5AA foes in quadrangular
action. The Totino Grace win will likely earn them the number one seed
in the section 5AA dual meet campaign. Jordan Scherber was the lone
wrestler to go 3-0 at the quadrangular as the Knights used several
wrestlers.
3. MILACA WOLVES
The Wolves topped West Central North Conference foe New London-Spicer
31-29. They topped three foes in their triangular, section 7AA foe
Hinckley-Finlayson/Pine City 58-7, AAA Lean and Mean St. Cloud Apollo
33-27 and Pierz 61-6. Jesse Warren, David Fradette, Jordy Rogalla,
Justin Albertson, Keith Larson and Ammoren Dohm were all 3-0 at the
triangular. The Wolves got crushed by rival and West Central North
Conference foe Foley 50-9. They responded very well as they traveled to
Benson where they topped the field with 222 points and eleven wrestlers
placing in the top four. Dave Fradette, Dohm Ammoren and Marshall Ash
all won championships and Jason Rogalla and Justin Albertson both
earned second place. Joe Moscho, Jordy Rogalla, John Crain and Rip
Baker all earned third place. Jake Moscho and Joe Hemmerich both took
fourth place.
4. NEW LONDON SPICER WILDCATS
The Wildcats dropped a West Central North Conference dual to Milaca
31-29 despite missing three starters, it was a very close dual. They
topped rival and West Central North Conference foe Paynesville 36-25.
They crushed West Central North Conference rival Albany 32-12. After a
bit of a low point against Milaca the Wildcats have regrouped with a
great performance at the Barrel of Fun tourney in Perham. They topped
the coaches hometown and No. 2AA ranked team with 229.5 points and
thirteen wrestlers placing in the top four. Chase Austvold, Shawn
Hatlestad, Luke Reiter and John Nething all won championships. Ben
Henle and Dylan Hanson both earned second place, Billy Dean, Tanner
Tobkin, Tom Buscher, Cody Haugen and Chris Pfar all earned third
places. Logan Brink and Cody Jakobson both took fourth place.
5. MORA MUSTANGS
The Mustangs topped two foes including West Central North Conference
foe Albany 51-25 and Big Lake 45-18. The Mustangs topped West Central
North Conference foe Sauk Centre 50-15. They continue to have a very
good season with yet another strong showing as they topped the field of
teams at their own Mustang Invitational with 235.5 points and twelve
wrestlers placing in the top four. Andrew Youngblom won the
championship and was voted by the coaches of the tourney as the
Outstanding Wrestler of the Tournament. Dusty Thorhauer, Blake Menard,
Tyler Carlson and Derek Carlson all won championships. Earning third
place were Alex Dahms, Seth Saftner, Zane Van Vleet and Britt Drews.
Ethan Purdy, Brent Schroeder and Bryan Hanson all took fourth place.
6. DASSEL COKATO CHARGERS
The Chargers topped Wright County Conference and Section 6AA foes
Annandale-Maple Lake 37-30 to win the Battle of the Bolt and Litchfield
36-25. The Chargers earned fourth place at the Buffalo Duals with wins
over North St. Paul 54-16 and section 6AA foe Big Lake 44-20. Max
Anderson was 4-0 and Zach Peterson, Tyler Dobmeier, Dakota Hanson and
Sam Pokornowski were all 3-1 at the Buffalo duals.
7. LITCHFIELD DRAGONS
The Dragons topped Wright County Conference foe Orono 42-28. They
earned thirty-sixth place in a field of fifty-seven teams with 61
points. Dan Cox went 3-2, Davie Cox went 3-2, John Binsfield went 3-2,
Kolby Kalbrenner went 4-2 and Kyle Ballard was 2-2. The Dragons dropped
a Wright County Conference dual to Dassel Cokato 36-25 in the Battle of
the Bolt. They topped three foes at the Little Falls quadrangular with
wins over host Little Falls in a very good dual 33-29, Pierz 48-27 and
Parkers Prairie 35-33. Kyle Ballard, Austin Jones, Kody Kalkbrenner and
Damian Heairet were all 3-0 at the quadrangular.
8. LITTLE FALLS FLYERS
The Flyers topped Central Lakes Conference foe Fergus Falls 37-36 in a
huge conference match up. They earned eighth place at the thirty-two
team Big Bear tourney with 119.5 points and three place winners. Cody
Bue earned second place, Frank Wilczek and Sam Marcus both earned sixth
place. The Flyers topped another Central Lakes Conference foe Sartell
55-24. The Flyers topped two foes at their annual quadrangular
with wins over Pierz 48-25 and Parkers Prairie 54-24. They dropped a
very close dual to Litchfield 33-29. Frank Wilczek, Bryant Bue, Brandon
Waldock and Cody Bue were all 3-0 at the quadrangular.
9. FERGUS FALLS OTTERS
The Otters topped Central Lakes Conference foes Willmar 40-27, Brainerd
and Rocori. They dropped a very close dual to Central Lakes Conference
foe Little Falls and section 8AA rival Little Falls 37-36. The Otters
earned seventh place at the thirty-two team Big Bear Tourney with 131
points and five place winners. Two championships by Josh Campion and
Colton Thorson, they both had five falls. Jesse Laugen, Ryan Jacobson
both earned fifth place and Dan Revering took sixth place.
The Otters topped two Central Lakes Conference foes with a very close match over Brainerd 36-33 and Rocori 45-21.
10. DAWSON-BOYD/LQPV
They DB/LQPV crew topped Section 3AA and West Central South Conference
foe Montevideo 69-9. They dropped a close one to Section 3AA rival
Adrian 31-22. They turned in a great performance as they topped the
field of teams at the Dave Roder Tourney with 225 points and eleven
place winners. With this performance they defeated the currently number
ranked class A team Canby. Ryan Swenson won thee only championship,
Jake Bothun, Matt Brehmer, Colton Kanstrup, and Joe Hutt all
earned second. Josh Staab, Jack Massee and Sam Hass all earned
third place and Jason McKensie, Dylan Croatt and John Weeding all took
fourth place. The crew topped 3AA foe Worthington 55-12 and Pipestone
48-30.
11. MONTICELLO MAGIC
The Magic topped AAA St. Cloud Tech 54-15 and they dropped a dual to
section 6AA foe Foley 53-9. In triangular action the Magic topped
Austin 37-33, Lakeville North 44-30 and Princeton 50-24. Ben Schwartz,
Randy Ascher, Tyler Mergen, Joe Jude and Eric Birigeois.
12. NORTH B|RANCH VIKINGS
The Vikings topped Conference foe Fridley 78-6 and DeLaSalle 75-12 and
Minneapolis Edison 81-0. They dropped Conference dual to No. 8AA
Totino Grace 43-25. They earned fifth place at the Battle of the Titans
at the Tarton Tourney with 144.5 points and nine wrestlers placing in
the top four. Boyd Suparat and John Morrison both won championships,
Jake Kostik, Chad Anderson, Nick Salo and Justin Bergerson all earned
third place. Jimmy Juntunen, Tom Mork and Stuart Frink both took fourth
place.
MAT RATS TOP CLASS A TEAMS
1. KERKHOVEN-MURDOCK-SUNBERG FIGHTING SAINTS
The Fighting Saints topped Section 3A and Camden Conference foe MACCRAY
56-15. They turned in a very impressive performance at the Rumble
of Red, a tourney hosted in the Fargo Dome. There was a field of
fifty-seven teams and the Fighting Saints earned second place with 256
points, just four points behind Foley the Class AA no. 2 ranked team.
Five place winners led by two big championships by Kevin Steinhaus and
Mitchell Hagen, both wrestlers were 6-0 for the tourney. Kurt Timmons
had a huge tourney where he earned third place going 8-1 for the
tourney. Joel Bauman also had a big weekend earning third place in
possibly the toughest weight at the tourney, he was 6-1 for the
tourney. Brad Kneisl earned fourth place with his 6-2 mark for the
tourney. Adam Wentzel had a good showing with a 4-2 mark, Aaron Zimmer
also had a 4-2 mark. Jacob Engler also scored some team points with a
3-2 mark, Joey Paulson was 4-2, Aaron Doraska was 4-2, Klinton
VanHeuveln was 2-2 and Tyler Carlson went 2-2. The Fighting Saints
dropped a Section 4A dual to Lean and Mean Minneota 43-23 and they
toped Camden Conference foe 42-34 and Section 3A and Camden Conference
foe MACCRAY 56-15. The Saints were minus four starters in their loss to
Minneota. They topped the field at the Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa tourney
with 195.5 points and twelve wrestlers placing in the top four. Kevin
Steinhaus won the championship that feature last years AA state
champion Kevin O’Brien of Becker. Kevin was name Outstanding wrestler
for his performance. Brad Kneisl, Joel Bauman, Mitchell Hagen and Kurt
Timmons won championships and Aaron Zimmer, Adam Wentzel, Klinton
VanHeuveln, Jordan Rothers and Trevor Muhlum all earned second place.
Jessie Engler earned third place and Joey Paulson earned fourth place.
2. ATWATER-COSMOS-GROVE CITY
The Falcons topped four section 5A teams with convincing wins
over Eden Valley-Watkins 43-15, Minnewaska 36-22, Osakis 60-12 and Sauk
Centre 64-6. They beat non-conference foe Renville County West 57-18.
The Falcons had a great showing at the Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa tourney
where they earned second place with 154.5 points with ten wrestlers
placing in the top three. Hayden Rouser, Scott Litzau and Mike Kramer
won championships and Micah Larson and Lee Whitcomb both earned second
place. Earning third place were Matt Lee, Matt Meyer, Travis
Fredrickson, Devon Buboltz and Dylan Nelson.
3. BOLD WARRIORS
The Warriors topped Class A Lean and Mean Paynesville 36-31 in a very
good dual. They topped section 3A foe Sibley East 37-18 and dropped a
dual to Class A No. 11 ranked Lake Crystal-Welcome-Memorial 33-28 in a
very close match. Look for a possible rematch in the Section 3A
tournament. The Warriors topped AA foes Waconia 42-26 and
Watertown-Mayer 40-17. They topped a pair of West Central South
Conference foes Benson 40-26 and Montevideo 60-18.
4. PAYNESVILLE BULLDOGS
The Bulldogs topped Section 5A foes Osakis 55-18 and Kimball 58-15
along with Class A lean and mean Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale 48-20 at the
Osakis quadrangular.
Dylan Sheridan, Brent Schlangen, Jon Kerzman, Matt Doom and Justin
Wendlandt were all 3-0 at the quadrangular. They dropped a very good
dual to rival AA No. 12 ranked New London-Spicer 36-25. The Bulldogs
had a very solid showing at the Farmington duals where they earned
third place with a quarterfinal win over Lake
City 57-12 and Third Place match a convincing 56-11 win over
Farmington. They dropped their semifinal match to tourney champion
Chatfield 30-29. The Bulldogs split the matches, winning seven from the
Gophers. Dylan Sheridan, Jon Kerzman, Matt Boom, Cole Woehler,
Tyler Hemesch and Andrew Moser were all 3-0 at Farmington. The Bulldogs
topped West Central South Conference foes Yellow Medicine East 35-27
and Morris Area/CA 69-9
5. YELLOW MEDICINE EAST STING
The Sting topped non-conference rival AA Marshall 40-18. They dropped a
West Central South Conference Dual to Paynesville 35-27. The Sting
topped the field of ten teams at the Norwood Young America Central
Invitational with 216.5 points and thirteen placing in the top four.
Casey Field, Austen Cole, Evan Knutsen and Evan Stock all earned
championships. Levi Specht and Derek Dyrdahl both earned second place
and Dylan Hoffman, Logan Johnson and Mason Hegna all earned third
place. Cody Sander, Justin Tange, Dustin Baker and Tyler Merritt all
took fourth place.
6. MINNEWASKA LAKERS
The Lakers topped a pair of section 5A teams with big wins over Long
Prairie-Grey Eagle 55-23 and Holdingford 48-24. They dropped duals to
No. 4A ranked and section 5a foe Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City 36-22 and to
AA Lean and Mean Dawson-Boyd/LQPV 34-33. The Lakers turned in a solid
performance with 177.5 points and seven wrestlers placing the top four
at the Benson Classic Wrestling tourney. Jacob Braaten, Colin Jergenson
and Brandon Mandershied all won championships. Justin Frederich, David
Cowen and Grant Winter all earned second place and Cam Schafer earned
third place.
7. WADENA-DEER CREEK WOLVERINES
The Wolverines topped section 6A rival Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale 39-39 on
criteria, a dual where BHV won all the upper weights and WDC won all
the lower weights. They earned sixteenth place with 87.5 points at the
thirty-two team Big Bear Tourney. They had five place winners including
Mitch Steffens earning fourth place, Matt Hagen and Eddie Lustilla both
earned fifth place, Joe Wegschied took sixth place and Jared Wegschied
took eighth place. They dropped a dual to the No. 3A ranked Frazee
48-24 in a good dual. They had a great showing at the Pine to Prairie
tourney in Fertile with 190 points and ten wrestles placing in the top
four to earn second place. Mitch Steffens, Jordan Wescheid and Matt
Hagen all won championships and Jordan Rentz and Eddie Lustila earned
second place. Jacob Wegscheid and Tyler Wohlwend both earned third
place and Zach Bernu, Aaron Uselman and Isaac Lustila all took fourth
place.
8. BERTHA-HEWITT/VERNDALE RAIDERS
The Raiders went 2-1 at the Osakis quadrangular with wins over Park
Region Conference foe Osakis 51-27 and Kimball 45-30. They dropped a
dual to fellow Class A Lean and Mean Paynesville 48-20. Jake Braaten,
Matt Moenkedick and Wade Moenkedick were all 3-0 at the quadrangular.
They dropped a pair of duals to Section 6A foes to Wadena-Deer Creek
39-39 on criteria and to a very good Pelican Rapids team 47-22.
9. AITKIN GOBBLERS
The Gobblers topped three section 6A foes Rush City 72-7, Trinity of
Rivers Edge 57-9 and Ogivlie 57-19. They earned thirteenth place a the
thirty-two team Big Bear tourney with 95.5 points. They had four place
winners including Keith Wasserzier earning second place, Dalton Stevens
earning third place, Jordan Chouanard earning fifth place and Tyler
Wilke took eighth place. The Gobblers earned fifth place at the Mora
tourney with 122 points. They had eight wrestlers place in the top four
with Keith Wasserzierher and Taylor Wilke earning second. Jordan
Chouanard, Ryan Skinner and Travis Trenge earned third place and Doug
Homer, Levi Stifter and Dalton Stevens all took fourth place.
10. BROWERVILLE/EAGLE VALLEY BRONCOS
The Broncos topped a pair of Section 5A foes with wins over Kimball
43-33 and Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa 49-24. They topped Park Region
Conference foe Ottertail Central 54-12. They split duals topping West
Central Area 51-18 and dropping a very close dual to
Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton 34-31.
11. STAPLES-MOTLEY CARDINALS
The Cardinals earned fifth place with 117 points with eight wrestler
placing in the top four at the Maple River tourney. Jordan Bendson won
their only championship, Anthony Jenkins and Dylan Shequen both earned
second place. Trent Carlson and Blake Petrich both eared third place
and Nick Trout, Chandler Trout and David Dayonge all took fourth place.
The Cardinals topped a pair of Mid-State Conference foes Pequot
Lakes/Pine River/Backus 51-27 and Park Rapids 43-25. They turned in a
very solid performance to earned the championship at the Pine to
Prairie tourney in Fertile with 195 points and twelve wrestlers placing
in the top four. Trent Carlson and Jordan Bendson both won
championships and Jordan Heldman, Andrew Robben, Chandler Trout and
Blake Petrich all earned second place. Sam Duberowski, Devin Becker,
Dylan Sheauen and Ryan Detloff all earned third place and Brett Lisson
and Nick Trout took fourth place.
12. BENSON BRAVES
The Braves topped a pair of West Central South Conference foes Morris
Area/CA 57-11 and Montevideo 60-18. They dropped a dual to West Central
South Conference foe BOLD 40-26. The Braves had a great tourney as they
earned second place at their Classic Invitational with 189 points and
ten place winners in the top four. Ryan Thompson and Brett Hoffman won
championships and Dalton Staton Chris Carruth and Brady Wersinger all
earned second place. Morgan Staton and Jess Lunebrek both earned third
place and Seth Pilatzki, Josh Frentzel and David Tweton all took fourth
place.
HOWARD LAKE WAVERLY WINSTED LAKERS
The Lakers topped two Central Minnesota Conference foes Pierz 51-21 and
Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa 42-28. They topped former section 5a foes
Meadow Creek/Spectrum 51-26 and Saint Croix Lutheran 63-16. The Lakers
earned fourth place at the Norwood Young America Central Tourney with
139 points and six placing in the top four. Tony Hausladen won a
championship and John Long and Cameron Lehner both earned second place.
Derek Youngren earned third place and Matt Schmieg and McKenzie Rehmann
both took fourth place.
EDEN VALLEY WATKINS EAGLES
The Eagles topped three Central Minnesota Conference foes with a big
win over Royalton 38-31, Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa 48-18 and Holdingford.
They topped AA Becker 32-28 and dropped a close dual to rival AA Rocori
39-35. They topped section 5A and Central Minnesota Conference foe
Holdingford 43-20. The young Eagles had a great showing at the Norwood
Young America Central Invitational with 173.5 points and nine wrestlers
placing in the top three to earn third place. Kevin Kramer, Jeff
Dockendorf, Jaron Faber and Tyle Magedanz all won championships and
Jacob Forcier and Joe Holdvogt both earned second place. Mike Downham,
Mike Sullivan and Brandon Walz all earned third place.
BORDER WEST
The Border West crew topped Pelican Rapids 45-21 in a key section 6A
dual. They earned sixth place at the Dave Roder tourney in Montevideo
with 128.5 points and four championships. Mitch Andrews, Will McCarthy,
Jacob Poole and Billy Connelly all won championships. The crew earned
fourth place at the Benson Classic tourney with 165 points and nine
wrestles placing in the top four. Mitch Andrews, Will McCarthy and Zack
Fridgen all won championships. Gus McCarthy earned second place, Jacob
Poole, Sam Birkholtz, Ausitn Gray and Luke Schmitz all earned third
place and Billy Connelly took fourth place.
ROYALTON ROYALS
The Royals topped Section 7A rival Mille Lacs 40-22 and they lost a
very good dual to Central Minnesota Conference foe Eden Valley-Watkins
38-31. The Royals had a great tourney showing by earning 213.5 points
to claim second place at their own invitational. They had ten wrestlers
place in the top four including three championships by Peter Borash,
Jordan Wentland and Mitch Lange (Mitch is just a 7th grader). Odin
Guerard, Craig Lensing, Dan Gadacz and Jake Kasella all earned second
place and Ryan Brady and Andy Poster both earned third place. Tom
Averill took fourth place for the Royals.
MAT RATS TOP CLASS AAA TEAMS
1. CAMBRIDGE BLUE JACKETS
The Blue Jackets topped Mississippi 8 Conference foe Rogers 57-6. They
had a very good showing at the thirty-two team Christmas tourney with
108 points for eighth place. They had five place winners including one
championship by Tony Nelson and Scott Gifford earned fourth place. Adam
Kelling earned sixth place, Tyler Tisher earned seventh place and Jared
Vincent took eighth place. The Blue Jacket had yet another great
showing at the fifty-seven team tourney the Rumble on Red hosted at the
Fargo Dome. The earned 12th place with 122.5 points and two place
winners, including a Championship by Tony Nelson and Scott Gifford
earned fifth place. Several wrestlers had good showings all going two
and two, including Tyler Tischer, Kyle Hay, Landon Chumley, Sherwood
McKinnes, Clayton Jennissen, Mark Volker, Dalton Littledahl and Jared
Vincent. They topped the field at their own Blue Jacket invitational
with 212 points and all fourteen placing in the top four. Joe Holmberg,
Kyle Hay and Landon Chumley all won championships. Sherwood McKinnis,
Clayton Jennissen and Seth Woodwiss earned second place and Ty
Torgerson, Dalton Lilledahl, Derek Swanson and Cody Reily all earned
third place. Jared Vincent, Adam Kelling and Ccole Bakke all took
fourth place.
2. ALEXANDRIA CARDINALS
The Cardinals topped three Central Lakes Conference foes with wins over
Brainerd 41-35, Rocori 44-15 and St. Cloud Apollo 30-30 on Criteria
(Most points scored in the first period) This may have given the
Cardinals the number one seed in the section 8AAA dual meet tourney.
They had a solid performance at the Buffalo duals earning second place
with three big wins over section 8AAA foe Buffalo 30-27, Glencoe/Silver
Lake 55-6 and Mille Lacs 54-18. They earned second place after dropping
the championship match to Foley 50-9. Tom Bouressa and Kyle Fughum were
both 4-0 and Adam Patrick, Josh Hobb, Josh Betterman and Isaac Meyer
were all 3-1 at the Bison Duals.
3. BUFFALO BISON
The Bison dropped a dual to Mississippi 8 Conference foe and rival
Saint Michael-Albertville 50-9. They topped AAA foes Minnetonka 43-31,
Eastview 37-24 and Shakopee 46-27. They earned third place at their own
dual meet tourney with wins over Mille Lacs 58-6, Glencoe/Silver Lake
69-6 and for third place Dassel Cokato 43-22. Mike Simeon, David Baker,
Timmy Ruter were all 4-0 and Zach Smith, Dylan Tibury, Cody Maus, James
Needermeyer and Bruce Manz were all 3-1 at the Bison Invitational.
4. ST. CLOUD APOLLO EAGLES
The Eagles defeated Central Lakes Conference foe Rocori 43-30. They
topped two foes at the Milaca Triangular event with wins over
Hinckley-Finlayson/PC 59-14 and Pierz 57-15. They dropped a very close
dual to the No. 9 AA Milaca 33-27. Mitch Bengston, Matt Spoden and Matt
Shaver were all 3-0 at the triangular. The Eagles dropped a huge dual
to Central Lake Conference and 8AAA foe Alexandria by the closes margin
30-30 on criteria (No. 6 most points scored in the first period). The
Eagles earned a tourney championship at the Ogilvie Lions Invitational
with 258.5 points and twelve wrestlers placing in the top four. Mitch
Bengston won the championship with his performance and was voted by the
coaches as the Outstanding Wrestler of the tourney. Nam Nguyen, Clayton
Athman, Nolan Rila, Chris Rocheleau,, Matt Spoden, Sam Koetter and Matt
Shaver all won championships. Earning seconds were Grant Nehring,
Austen Young and David Then.
5. BRAINERD WARRIORS
The Warriors dropped a pair of Central Lakes Conference dual to
Alexandria 41-35 and to Fergus Falls 36-33. The Warriors had a good
showing at the thirty-two team event the Big Bear in Cass Lake where
they earned ninth place with 98 points. They had seven place winners,
including; Brandon Mutz won their only championship, and Chad Ohman and
Sam Pagel both earned fourth place. Aaron Padrnos earned sixth place,
Mack Glasby and Luke Boran both took seventh place and Jared Franzen
took eighth place. The Warriors earned third place at the Blue Jackets
invitational in Cambridge with 158 points and eight placing in the top
four. Brandon Mutz and Jesse Franzen both won championships, Sam Pagel
and Chad Ohman both earned second place. Luke Boran, Aaron
Padmos, Mack Glasby and Tyler Kohlmeier all took fourth place.
6. SAUK RAPIDS STORM
The Storm topped Central Lakes foes Sartell 56-16 and Willmar 37-24.
They topped two foes at the Frazee triangular with wins over section
8AAA foe Bemidji 40-22 and Parkers Prairie 54-18. They dropped a dual
to No. 3A ranked Frazee 55-12. Erik Olson was 3-0 and Stephen Bucholz,
Codie Lane, John Gans and Shane Fesenmaier were all 2-1 at the
triangular. The Storm turned a very good performance by earning third
place with 152.5 points and nine wrestlers placing in the top four at
the Burnsville JC’s Invitational. Erik Olson and Tyler Moliter both won
championships, Shane Fesenmaier and Stephen Bucholz both earned second
place. Codie Lane and Caleb Studenski both earned third place and Tyler
Rud, Jeremiah Tripp and Mitch Mehwerth all took fourth place.
7. ELK RIVER ELKS
The Elks topped Lakeville North 42-36 and Cretin Derham Hall 74-6
before dropping the championship match to Robbinsdale Cooper 36-28.
They earned second place at the Richfield duals. They dropped a dual to
AAA ranked Centennial 58-9. They also dropped a very close Conference
dual to highly ranked Coon Rapids 35-33. They scored seventy four
points and earned thirty second place out of fifty seven teams at the
Rumble on Red a tourney hosted in the Fargo Dome. They had two place
winners Wade Forde earned seventh place with his 7-2 mark and Holton
Lubinski earned eighth place with his 4-2 mark. Jacob Steffenhagen went
4-2, Eric Stevens went 3-2, Tyler Stevens went 3-2 at the Rumble. The
Elks earned fifth place at the Cambridge-Isanti Invitational with 120.5
points and seven wrestlers placing in the top four. Wade Forde and
Holton Lubinski both won championships and Jacob Staffenhagen earned
second place. Tyler Stevens and Kyle Wieman both earned third place and
Eric Stevens and Robert Erickson both took fourth place.
8. SAINT CLOUD TECH TIGERS
The Tigers topped Central Lakes Conference foe Sartell 59-15. They
traveled to the Burnsville J C’s Tourney where they earned fifth place
with 118 points. They had five wrestlers place in the top four with
Tommy O’Brien and Charlie Leathers both earning second place and Luke
Laudenback earning third place. Dieter Brenner and Ben Johnson both
took fourth place.
9. MOORHEAD SPUDS
The Spuds topped rival Barnesville 41-24 in dual meet action. They
earned twenty-second place at the thirty-two team field of teams at the
Big Bear at Cass Lake with fifty points and three place winners. Ben
Gaughan earned fifth place, Mark Wycher earned sixth place and Ben
Tallakson took eighth place. They had a good showing at the Central
Cass Letterman’s Invitational where they earned tenth place in a twenty
team field of teams. They earned ninety five points and they had six
place winners with Mark Wychor earning second place and Ben Gaughan
earning fourth place. Joey Carpenter, Brock Tallakson and James Galling
all earned fifth place and A. J. Wheeler earning sixth place.
10. BEMIDJI LUMBER JACKS
The Lumber Jacks topped Parkers Prairie 42-37 and dropped a pair of
duals to No. 3A ranked Frazee 60-15 and Section 8AAA rival Sauk Rapids
40-22 at the Frazee Quadrangular. Colton Doty was the lone Lumber Jack
to go 3-0 at the quadrangular. They earned seventh place at the
Cambridge-Isanti Blue Jacket Invitational with 107.5 points and four
wrestler placing in the top four. Cory Huber and Evan Olson both won
championships and Colton Doty earned second place. Tyler Johnson took
fourth place the Cambridge tourney.
