MAT RATS TOP CLASS AA TEAMS
1. KERKHOVEN-MURDOCK-SUNBERG FIGHTING SAINTS
The Fighting Saints topped the number one ranked section foe Canby
40-22. They also crushed two other Camden and Section 3A foe Renville
County West 50-12 and Ortonville 69-3. They crushed the field of teams
at the Osakis duals with wins over Osakis 49-21, Ottertail Central
67-12 and in the championship they topped Dassel-Cokato 45-26. Jordan
Rothers won the fall award with three falls in 6:48, Aaron Doraska,
Aaron Zimmer, Kevin Steinhaus, Mitch Hagen, Joel Baumen and Brad Kneisl
were all 3-0 at the Osakis duals.
2. ATWATER-COSMOS-GROVE CITY
The Falcons crushed the field of teams at the Lightning Duals at
Annandale with a huge win over Willmar in quarterfinal 59-9 and in the
semifinals they crushed Pierz 57-16. In the Championship they dominated
AA Lean and Mean Windom Area 42-14. Hayden Rouser, Scott Litzau, Ryan
Larson , Deron Buboltz and Micah Larson all were 3-0 at the Lightning
Duals. They topped West Central South Conference foe Benson 45-29 and
they dropped a dual to another West Central Conference South foe Yellow
Medicine East 34-29. They were missing two of their regulars against
Yellow Medicine East. The Falcons topped West Central South Conference
foe BOLD in an excellent dual 31-26.
3. BOLD WARRIORS
The Warriors topped Section 4A foes St. James 40-21, Martin County West
47-17 and River Valley 41-23. They also topped a pair of West Central
South Conference foes AA Lean and Mean Dawson-Boyd/LQPV 36-19 and
Morris Area/CA 43-6.The Warriors topped a pair of AA foes
Glencoe-Silver Lake/LP 40-12 and Marshall 44-21. The dropped a very
close dual to No. 4A Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City 31-26.
4. YELLOW MEDICINE EAST STING
The Sting topped the field of teams at the Kimball duals with huge wins
over Kimball in the quarterfinals 47-23, in the semifinals
Staples-Motley 46-15. In the Championship they topped Class A lean and
mean St. James 42-22. Austin Cole, Dylan Hoffman, Casey Field and Evan
Stock were all 3-0 at the Kimball duals. They have four big wins over
West Central South Conferences including Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City
34-29, Dawson-Boyd/LQPV 35-30, Benson 36-24 and Montevideo 47-27. The
Sting also topped a pair of 3AA teams Red Rock Central 33-21 and Tracy
Milroy Balaton 47-17.
5. PAYNESVILLE BULLDOGS
The Bulldogs topped the field of teams at their invitational with 215
points and ten wrestlers placing in the top four. Dylan Sheridan, Jon
Kerzman, Justin Wendlandt and Andrew Moser all won championships. Matt
Doom, Tyler Hemmesch, Michael Boom and Cominick Platow all earned
second place, Eric Wolbeck earned third place and Jon Person took
fourth place. They topped West Central South Conference foe Montevideo
69-7 and a pair of Section 5A teams Minnewaska 36-20 and Howard
Lake/Winsted/Waverly 46-16.
6. MINNEWASKA LAKERS
The Lakers topped two West Central South Conference foes Montevideo
42-37 and Morris Area/CA 59-13. They dropped a dual to West Central
South Conference rival Paynesville 36-20. They were 1-3 at their dual
meet invitational with a win over Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale 40-30. They
dropped very close duals to Border West 37-28 and Hutchinson 36-33. The
Lakers dropped a dual to the No. 2A ranked Minneota 52-20. Collin
Jergenson, Brandon Manderschied and David Cowen all were 4-0 and Jacob
Braaten was 3-1 at their invitational. The Lakers topped two foes at
the Osakis quadrangular with wins over Section 5A foe Osakis 44-30 and
Norwood Young America 58-23. They lost to AA foe Rocori 34-33. Jake
Braaten, Grant Winter, Cam Schauffer, Collin Jorgenson and Brandon
Manderschied were all 3-0 at the quadrangular.
7. BENSON BRAVES
The Braves earned second place at the Parkers Prairie tourney with 215
Points and all fourteen wrestlers placing at the tourney. Ryan Thompson
and Brett Hoffman both won championships. Dalton Staton, Chris Carruth,
Josh Frentzel and Morgan Staton all earned second place and Matt
Plumhoff, Justin Goledn and Dave Tweeten all earned third place. Jim
Huston, Brady Wersinger, Jesse Lundebreck and Seth Pillatzki all took
fourth place. The Braves dropped a pair of West Central South
Conference foes Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City 45-29 and Yellow Medicine
East 36-24.
8. BORDER WEST BUCCANEERS
The Buccaneers were 1-3 at the Minnewaska Laker duals with a win over
Minnewaska 37-28 and they lost a pair of close matches to
Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale 41-36 and Hutchinson 36-34 and to Minneota 63-9.
Mitch Andrews and Will McCarthy were both 3-1 at the Laker duals.
Details of their other duals are unavailable. The Buccaneers earned
sixth place at the Lisbon, ND tourney with 146 points and six wrestlers
placing in this twenty-six team field of teams. Mitch Andrews one the
lone championship, Will McCarthy, Zach Fridgen and Jacob Poole all
earned third place. Reece Hanson earned fourth place and Sam Birkholz
took sixth place.
9. STAPLES-MOTLEY CARDINALS
The Cardinals topped Section 6A foes with hug wins over rival
Wadena-Deer Creek 40-26 and Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale 43-25. They took
third place at the Kimball duals with a win over Eden Valley-Watkins
34-27 and they dropped a dual to Yellow Medicine East in the semifinals
46-15 and for third place topped Irondale 60-10. Andrew Robben, Jordan
Bendson and Nick Trout were all 3-0 at the Kimball duals. The Cardinals
earned second place at their Don Dravis invitational with a win in the
quarterfinal over West Central Area 45-24 and in the semifinals in a
very close one over Browerville-Eagle Valley 37-35. They dropped the
championship match to No. 2AA ranked Perham 50-12. Jordan Benson and
Dylan Shequen were both 3-0 at the Don Dravis duals.
10. EDEN VALLEY-WATKINS EAGLES
The Eagles crushed Central Minnesota Conference and Section 5A foes
Kimball 51-13 and Howard Lake Waverly/Winsted 48-16. The Eagles took
fourth place with a win over section 5A foe Sauk Centre 42-25. In the
semifinals they lost to St. James 36-28. In the third place dual they
dropped a closed dual to Staples 34-27. Mike Dowham, Kevin Kramer,
Tyler Magedanz and Joe Holdvogt were all 3-0 at the Kimball duals. The
Eagles had yet another strong showing at the New London-Spicer tourney
with 167 points and nine wrestlers placing in the top four. Jacob
Forcier, Jeff Dockendorf and Joe Holdvogt all won championships and
Jaron Faber, Mike Downham, Tyler Magedanz and Blain Meierhofer all
earned second place. Kevin Kramer and Jake Asfeld both took fourth
place.
11. WADENA-DEER CREEK WOLVERINES
The Wolverines earned third Place at the Mahnomen-Waubun duals
with their quarterfinal win over Blackduck/Cass Lake/Bena 48-27, in the
semifinals they dropped their dual to No. 6A ranked Greenbush-Middle
River/Badger 40-27. They topped Crookston in a very close dual 36-31 in
the third place dual. Mitch Steffens was the only Wolverine that was
unbeaten at the Mahnomen duals. The Wolverines topped two Mid-State
Conference foe Park Rapids 40-29 and Crosby-Ironton. They dropped a
Mid-State Conference dual and Section 6A foe Staples-Motley 40-26.
12. BROWERVILLE/EAGLE VALLEY BRONCOS
The Broncos earned third place at the Osakis duals with a win over
Ottertail Central 51-15. They dropped their semifinal dual to
Dassel-Cokato 39-22. Randy Shamp, Julius Stone, Tyler Spycalla, Mitch
Schumann, Lucas Kalina and Nate Becker won both of their matches at the
Osakis duals. They topped three foes with a impressive showings over
Pequot Lakes/Pine River/Backus 43-25, Hawley 68-6 and Crosby-Ironton
62-5. The Broncos earned fourth place at the Don Dravis duals in
Staples with their quarterfinal win over Fertile-Beltrami 54-21, they
dropped their semifinal dual to host Staples-Motley 37-35. They dropped
the third place match to Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale 39-30. Julius Stone,
Tyler Spychalla, Travis Borchert, Randy Shamp, Lucas Kalina and Brian Denny were all
unbeaten at the Don Dravis duals.
BERTHA HEWITT/VERNDALE RAIDERS
The Raiders were 1-3 at the Minnewaska duals with a win over Section 6A
foe Border West 41-36. They dropped duals to Minnewaska 40-30,
Hutchinson 39-25 and to Minneota 50-13. Wade Moenkedick was 4-0 and
Amos Schmidt, Jake Braaten and Matt Moenkedick were all 3-1. The
Raiders topped Park Region Conference and Section 6A foe Ottertail
Central 51-26. They defeated AAA Bemidji 41-31 and dropped a dual to
AAA ranked Alexandria 39-28. The Raiders dropped a dual to rival and
Section 6A foe Staples-Motley 43-25. They had a good showing at the Don
Dravis duals with a quarterfinal win over Lon g Prairie-Grey Eagle
63-9, they dropped their semifinal dual to No. 2AA ranked Perham 48-25.
They earned third place with a win over Browerville/Eagle Valley
39-30. No other details were available.
ROYALTON ROYALS
The Royals earned fifth place at the Rick Lee tourney in Bemidji with
121.5 points and eight wrestlers placing in the top four. Peter Borash
and Jordan Wentland both earned second place, Odin Guerar earned third
place. Mitch Lang, Dan Gadac, Jacob Kasella, Criag Lensing and Kyle
Wendtland all took fourth place. They topped two section 6A foes with
wins over Rush City 40-34 and Saint Croix Lutheran 73-4. The Royals
topped two Central Minnesota Conference foes Howard
Lake/Waverly/Winsted 44-27 and Osaki 44-15. They dropped a close dual
to Holdingford 42-34. Mitch Lange, Jordan Wendlandt and Dan Gadacz were
all were 3-0 at their quadrangular. The Royals continue to have great
showings as they topped two section 7A foes with a huge win over Aitkin
28-24 and Braham 72-12.
MILLE LACS RAIDERS
The Raiders topped three section 6A foes with big wins over Aitkin
33-30, Pierz 44-30 and Crosby-Ironton 57-22. They topped AA Princeton
33-31 and dropped a dual to AA ranked Milaca 69-9.
AITKIN GOBBLERS
The Gobblers earned fourth place at the Rick Lee tourney at Bemidji
with 122.5 points, with five wrestlers placing in the top four. Keith
Wasserzieher and Dalton Stevens both won championships and Jordan
Chouanrd earned second place. Craig Leathers and Taylor Wilke both took
fourth place. The Gobblers split a pair of duals with section 7A foes,
they topped Braham 78-4 and they dropped a very close dual to Royalton
28-24.
MAT RATS TOP CLASS AA TEAMS
1. FOLEY FALCONS
The Foley Falcons made an impressive showing at the Kiffmeyer Duals
defeating St. Cloud Tech 69-6 in the quarterfinals, 3 in AAA ranked
Albert Lea 40-12 in the semifinals and losing to 2 in AAA and
nationally ranked Hastings 33-24 in the finals. The 3-0 unbeaten
for the Falcons were Mark Gehling, Tyler Lewandowski, Jordan Linn and
Kris Olson. The Falcons defeated two West Central North
Conference foes Long Prairie 69-3, Mora 49-7, and at the St. Francis
Triangualar, they defeated former Rum Rum River Conference foe Chisago
Lakes 66-0 and No. 10 AAA ranked St. Francis 49-15.
2. SAINT MICHEAL-ALBERTVILLE KNIGHTS
The Knights earned fourth place at the Kiffmeyer duals with
quarterfinal win over St. Cloud Apollo 46-15. They dropped their
semifinal dual to No. 2AAA ranked Hastings 32-23, in a very good dual.
They battled another AAA foe for third place, No. 3 ranked Albert Lea
and they came up short 40-20. David Thorn and Jake Horn were both
unbeaten at the Kiffmeyer Duals. The Knights topped the field of teams
at the Hutchinson tourney with 219.5 points and thirteen wrestlers
placing in the top four. David Thorn, Jordan Campa, Shaun Little and
Kraig Schumm all won championships. Jake Horn, Parker Betts and Ryan
Kessler all earned second place and taking third place were Dustin
Kottke, Carl Salonik, Kyle Salonek, Ben Horn and Jordan Sherber. Jake
Lillie took fourth place in this very strong performance by the
Knights.
3. MILACA WOLVES
The Wolves earned second place at the Moundsview “Mustang” Duals where
they topped Park Center 70-0, Columbia Heights 81-0 and Little Falls
58-18 in their pool. They dropped the championship dual to No. 8AAA
ranked Owatonna 49-19. David Fradette, Justin Albertson, Ripp Baker and
Marshall Ash were all 4-0 and Jason Rogalla, Jordy Rogalla, Mike
Kelley, John Crain, Jake Moscho and Ammoren Dohm were all 3-1 at the
Mustang duals. They topped Mille Lacs 69-9 and Section 7AA foe
Princeton 59-7. The Wolves topped West Central North Conference foe
Sauk Centre 54-13.
4. NEW LONDON SPICER WILDCATS
The Wildcats topped section 6AA foes Monticello 48-12 and Willmar 52-19
and West Central North Conference foe Long Prairie-Grey Eagle 51-18.
They topped the field at their Wildcat invitational with 200 points and
eleven wrestlers placing in the top four. Chase Austvold won one of the
championships and he was also voted by the coaches as the Outstanding
Wrestler as he defeat a highly ranked wrestler for the championship.
Shawn Hatlestad, Billy Dean and John Nething all won championships and
Dylan Hanson, Ben Henle and Luke Reiter all earned second place. Tom
Duscher, Chris Pfar and Cody Haugen all earned third place.
5. MORA MUSTANGS
The Mustangs topped two West Central North Conference foe Long
Prairie-Grey Eagle 59-15 and Melrose 67-6. They crushed three other
foes including Ogilvie 70-4, Mille Lacs 60-9 and Pierz 59-15. The
Mustangs dropped a dual to West Central Conference and No. 2AA ranked
Foley 49-7. The Mustangs topped No. 6AAA ranked Centennial 38-29 in the
quarterfinals of the Cambridge dual meet tourney. They dropped a very
close match to AA Lean and Mean Delano 36-33 and in the third place
dual they defeated yet another AAA ranked foe No. 11 Prior Lake 45-24.
Dusty Thorhauer, Seth Sanftner, Andrew Youngblom and Derek Carlson were
all 3-0 at the Bluejacket duals.
6. DASSEL COKATO CHARGERS
The Chargers had a very good showing at the Osakis Duals with their
quarterfinal win over Albany 42-28 and the semifinals over
Browerville/Eagle Valley 39-22. They dropped the championship to No. 1A
ranked Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunberg 45-26. Max Anderson, Brandon Fiedler,
Tyler Dobmeier and Sam Pokonowski were all 3-0 at the Osakis duals. Max
Anderson was voted by the coaches as the Outstanding Wrestler of the
tourney. They topped Wright County Conference foe Mound-Westonka 69-6
and non-conference foe New Prague 32-30. They dropped a very close dual
to Wright County Conference foe Waconia 37-33. The Chargers had 188
Points to earn second place at the Elk River “Elks” Invitational. They
eleven wrestlers place in the top four, including championships by Max
Anderson and Sam Pokornowski. Earning second were Brandon Fiedler, Zach
Peterson, Tyler Dobmeier and Kyle Johnson, Brendan Ospahl, Tyler Nelson
and Dakota Hanson all earned third place. Spencer Broberg and Tyler
Irvin both took fourth place.
7. LITCHFIELD DRAGONS
The Dragons earned fourth place at the Monticello Magic Duals with
their over Alexandria 57-18. They lost duals to section 6AA foe
Monticello 40-32, AAA ranked Prior Lake 38-22 and to Eagan 39-27. Kody
Kolbrenner and Damian Heairet were both 4-0 and David Cox, Kyle Ballard
and Dustin Jones were all 3-1. They earned fourth place at the New
London-Spicer tourney with 136 points and nine wrestlers placing in the
top four. Kyle Ballard and Kody Kalkbrenner both won championships and
David Cox and Austin Jones both earned second place. Damian Heairet,
Dan Cox and Mark Shepard all earned third place and John Binsfeld and
Alex Mauer both took fourth place. They topped Wright County Conference
foe Mound-Westonka 60-12 and non-conference foe St. Thomas Academy
62-9. The Dragons had a very good tourney as they earned fourth at the
New London-Spicer Tourney with 136 points and nine wrestlers placing in
the top four including two championships by Kyle Ballard and Kody
Kalkbrenner. Austin Jones and David Cox both earned second place and
Damian Heairet, Dan Cox and Mark Shepard all earned third place. John
Binsfeld and Alex Mauer both took fourth place.
8. DAWSON-BOYD/LQPV
The Crew continue to have a strong season with dual meet wins over
Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa 56-13, Tracy-Milroy-Balaton 50-15 and Red Rock
Central 44-26. They topped West Central South Conference foe Morris
Area/CA 65-6. They dropped a very close dual to West Central South
Conference foe Yellow Medicine East 35-30 and BOLD 36-19. They lost a
close dual to Class A Lean and Mean Zumbrota-Mazappa 30-25. They earned
third place at the Plum Creek tourney in Westbrook with 155 points and
nine wrestlers placing in the top four. Jake Bothun and Matt Brehmer
both won championships and Sam Haas and Ryan Swenson both earned
second. Dylan Croat and Codie Weeding both earned third place and
Brandon Schmitt, Colton Kantrup and John Weeding all took fourth place.
9. LITTLE FALLS FLYERS
The Flyers have topped three Central Lakes Conference foes, Brainerd
36-33, St. Cloud Tech. 37-34 and Sauk Rapids 59-12. They earned third
place at the Moundview “Mustang” Duals with win in their pool over
Columbia Heights 77-0 and Park Center 51-21. They dropped one pool
match to AA ranked Milaca 58-18. They Flyers topped Moundview 54-23 in
the third place dual. Frank Wilczek, Charlie Wilczek and Cody Bue were
all 4-0 and Sam Marcus, Bryant Bue and Dilan Satecki were all 3-1.
10. FERGUS FALLS OTTERS
The Otters topped Central Lakes Conference foe Sartell 66-9 and
non-conference class A Holdingford 42-30. They dropped a dual to highly
ranked Frazee 40-24 and to a pair of Section 8AA foes No. 2AA ranked
Perham 41-25 and to No. 7AA Thief River Falls 40-32. The Otters earned
third place at the Lake Park “Terry Teikin” Tourney with 188 points and
nine wrestlers placing in the top four. Alex Hensch, Colton Thorson and
Josh Campion all won championships and Jesse Laugen earned second
place. Abbot Aho, Jordan Ringquist and Dan Revering all earned third
place and Bryant Marquedant and Derek Teberg both took fourth place.
11. MONTICELLO MAGIC
The Magic topped Section 6AA foes Willmar 48-25 and Big Lake 39-27.
They dropped a Section 6AA dual to New London-Spicer 48-12. They topped
Mississippi 8 foe Zimmerman 56-15. The Magic earned fifth place at
their dual meet invitational with a win over Litchfield 40-32, they
dropped pool duals to Alexandria 44-24 and Prior Lake 44-25. They
dropped their fifth place dual to Rocori 45-36. Ryan Michaelis, Tyler
Mergen and Ben Schwartz were all 4-0 and Logan Draak and Sabastian
Garnder were both 3-1.
12. NORTH BRANCH VIKINGS
The Vikings topped non-conference foe Benilde St. Margaret 75-5 and
North Suburban Conference foe Irondale 51-21. They dropped three duals
at the Cambridge-Isanti dual meet tourney, Delano 41-28, Centennial
40-24 and Forrest Lake 43-33. No other details were available.
MAT RATS TOP CLASS AAA TEAMS
1. CAMBRIDGE-ISANTI BLUE JACEKTS
The Blue Jackets topped section 7AAA rival St. Francis 37-29, they
topped Mississippi 8 foe Becker 52-22. They earned fifth place at the
Kiffmeyer duals as they dropped their quarterfinal dual to No. 3AAA
ranked Albert Lea 36-21. They topped St. Cloud Tech 51-13 and for fifth
place they topped AAA Lean and Mean St. Cloud Apollo 35-27. Tony Nelson
was their only wrestlers that was 3-0 at the Kiffmeyer duals. The Blue
Jackets topped the field of teams at their own dual meet invitational
with wins over Forest Lake 49-20 in the quarterfinal. They topped No.
11 AAA ranked Prior Lake 34-19 and for the Championship they topped a
very good Lean and Mean AA team Delano 37-30. Tony Nelson, Scott
Gifford, Kyle Hay and Tyler Tischer were all unbeaten at the Bluejacket
duals.
2. ALEXANDRIA CARDINALS
The Cardinals topped Section 8AAA foe Bemidji 45-33 and non-conference
foe Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale 39-28. They dropped duals to No. 11 Prior
Lake 37-24 and Litchfield 57-28 in pool duals at the Monticello Magic
duals.. They topped Monticello 44-24 and for seventh place they topped
Hopkins 43-25. They defeated Section 8AAA foe Moorhead 44-28 and they
dropped a dual to Anoka 44-22. The Cardinals Celebrated their 50th year
of their wrestling program.
3. SAINT CLOUD APOLLO EAGLES
The Eagles topped Central Lakes Conference foe Sartell 47-18 and in a
huge win and they topped AAA Lean and Mean Section 8AAA foe Buffalo
36-15. They earned sixth place at the Kiffmeyer duals. In the
quarterfinal they dropped a dual to No. 6AA ranked St.
Michael-Albertville 45-15, in the consolation semifinals they topped
the No. 6 ranked North Dakota team Wahpeton 45-29. They dropped their
fifth place match to No. 4AAA ranked Cambridge-Isanti 35-27 in a very
good dual. Mitch Bengston, Matt Spoden and Sam Koetter were all 3-0 at
the Kiffmeyer Duals. The Eagles earned sixth place at the Cambridge
duals with a consolation semifinal win over Forest Lake 36-29. They
dropped their quarterfinal dual to No. 11AAA ranked Prior Lake 29-27
and their fifth place match to the No. 6AAA ranked Centennial 44-25.
Mitch Bengston, Nam Naugyen and Matt Shaver were all unbeaten.
4. BUFFALO BISON
The Bison topped Sartell 52-19 and they dropped to section 8AAA dual to
St. Cloud Apollo 36-15. No details on their Big Lake and their
Watertown duals. The Bison claimed fifth place at the Annandale
Lightning duals with wins over Annandale/Maple 42-24 and Willmar 59-9.
They dropped a dual to AA Lean and Mean Windom Area 38-25. James
Niedemeyer and Bruce Manz were the only Bison they were 3-0.
5. BRAINERD WARRIORS
The Warriors topped Central Lakes Conference foe Rocori 42-19 and they
dropped a very close dual to Central Lakes Conference rival Little
Falls 36-33. They topped the field of teams at the Moorhead “Gadberry”
Duals with a wins over North Dakota foes West Fargo 51-20, Grand Forks
Central 45-19 and Mandan for the championship 34-28. Luke Boran,
Brandon Mutz, Tyler Kohlmeier and Chad Ohmann were all 3-0 at the
Gadberry duals. The Warriors topped the field of teams at the Elk River
“Elks” invitational with 190 points and twelve wrestlers placing in the
top four with Brandon Mutz and Chad Ohman winning championships. Jesse
Franzen, Mack Glasby and Tyler Kohlmeier all earned second place. Pat
Metzler and Aaron Padrnos both earned third place and Levi Rubin, Nick
Grausam, Dan Babineau and Luke Boran all took fourth place.
6. ELK RIVER ELKS
The Elks dropped a pair of Section 7AAA duals to No. 5AAA ranked Anoka
44-27 and to Andover 35-34. The Elks earned fifth place at their
tourney with 129 points and they had five wrestlers place in the top
four at the their invitational. Tyler Stevens, Holton Lubinski and Wade
Forde all won championships, Robert Erickson earned third place and
Kyle Wiemann took fourth place.
7. SAINT CLOUD TECH TIGERS
The Tigers topped Central Lakes Conference rival Sauk Rapids 40-30 and
they dropped a very close conference dual to Little Falls 37-34. The
Tigers hosted one of the strongest fields of teams at their Kiffmeyer
duals where they dropped their quarterfinal dual to no. 3AA ranked
Foley 69-6, in the consolation semifinals they lost to No. 4AAA ranked
Cambridge-Isanti 61-13 and for seventh place they dropped their dual to
No. 6 ranked North Dakota foe Wahpeton 43-21. Grant Forsythe, Peter
Kalla, Ben Lortz and Luke Laudenbauch were all 3-1 at the Kiffmeyers.
The Tigers traveled to St. Paul Humboldt where they earned second place
in the Hawk duals with wins over Mahtomedi 48-25, St. Paul Humboldt
37-14 and Lakeville South 34-33. They dropped the championship dual to
Northfield 47-26. Mitch Voigt and Charlie Leathers were both 4-0 and
Grant Forsythe, Peter Kalla, Ben Lortz and Luke Laudenbach were all 3-1
at the Hawk duals.
8. SAUK RAPIDS STORM
The Storm dropped a pair of Central Lakes Conference duals to St. Cloud
Tech 40-30 and to Little Falls 59-12. They earned sixth place at the
Apple Valley tourney with 85.5 points and four place winners. Shane
Fessemeier won a championship and Mitchell Mehrwerth earned third place
and Caleb Studenski and Tyler Rudy both took fourth place.
9. BEMIDJI LUMBER JACKS
The Lumberjacks lost to a Section 8AAA Alexandria 45-33 and to
non-conference Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale 41-31. They earned third place at
their invitational the Rick Lee with 141 points and six wrestlers
placing in the top three. Cory Huber won a championship at 160, Evan
Olson earned second place. Colton Doty, Drew Peterson, Derek
Lofgren and Travis Utley all earned third place. The Lumberjacks earned
seventh place at the Great Northern tourney at Thief River Falls with
112.5 points and seven wrestlers placing in the top four. Corey Huber
won the championship at 160 and Colton Doty earned second place. Jake
Crosby and Derek Lofgren both earned third place and Andrew Cable, Drew
Peterson and Luke Burns all took fourth place.
10. MOORHEAD SPUDS
The Spuds dropped duals to No. 5AAA Anoka 51-15 and to No. 12AAA Alexandria.
They dropped duals to old district 23 rival Detroit Lakes 46-16 and
their neighbor Class A lean and mean Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton 52-15. The
Spuds hosted the Gadberry duals in honor of the Spud long time coach
during their power house days. They dropped three duals to North Dakota
foes Grand Forks Central 40-31, West Fargo 45-33 and Mandan 55-15. Mark
Wychor and Joey Carpenter were both 3-0 at the duals. The earned eighth
place at the Lake Park tourney with 54 points and they had two place
winners including Mark Wychor and James Golling.
