MAT RATS TOP CLASS AAA TEAMS
1. CAMBRIDGE-ISANTI BLUE JACEKTS
The Bluejackets topped a pair of Mississippi 8 Conference foes
Princeton 63-3 and Big Lake 58-14. They did drop the Conference
Championship to Saint Michael-Albertville 40-13. The Jackets topped two
non-conference foes Totino Grace 46-24 and Robinsdale Cooper 43-30. The
Jackets topped three foes at the Blaine “Bengal” Duals with wins over
Bemidji 61-6,Rosemount 33-27 and for the championship over Section 7AAA
rival Coon Rapids 36-29. Adam Kelling, Derek Swanson and Tony Nelson
were 3-0 at the Blaine duals.
2. ALEXANDRIA CARDINALS
The Cardinals topped three Central Lakes Conference foes Sartell 48-20,
Sauk Rapids 51-15 and Willmar 47-27. They dropped a key Central Lakes
Conference dual to St. Cloud Tech 32-30. The Cardinals had a very
strong showing at their invitational the “Big Ole” with 200.5 points
and ten wrestlers placing in the top four to earn second place. Lucas
Betterman, Isaac Meyer, Tom Bouressa, Charlie Kirscht and Taylor
Morical all won championships. Josh Hobbs earned second place and Josh
Betterman, Adam Patrick and Adam Klinkner all earned third place. Cole
Ellison took fourth place for the Cardinals. Tom Bouressa was named the
Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament. They topped Central Lakes
Conference foe Fergus Falls 30-27 to win the Central Lakes Conference
Dual meet title.
3. SAINT CLOUD APOLLO EAGLES
The Eagles topped three Central Lakes Conference foes Little Falls
39-18, Sauk Rapids 49-18 and Willmar 53-10. They also crushed two
section 8AAA foes Bemidji 61-7 and Moorhead 51-21. The Eagles dropped a
very close dual to a Central Lakes Conference foe Fergus Falls by a
very close margin of 36-35. They had a very strong showing at the
Purple Pride Tourney in Albany with 143.5 points and seven wrestlers
placing in the top four to earn third place. Despite not having a
couple of their starters not wrestling. Mitch Bengston, Matt Spoden and
Matt Shaver all won championships and Nam Nguyen earned second place.
Chris Rocheleau and Sam Koetter had very good performances as they both
earned third place and David Then took fourth place.
4. BUFFALO BISON
The Bison topped topped Section 8AAA foe Brainerd 39-23 and Mississippi
8 Conference foes Monticello 39-26 and Zimmerman 51-18. In a
non-conference dual they topped Willmar 51-18. The Bison got one win at
the Paynesville “Bulldog” Duals with a win over the host Paynesville
34-28. They dropped matches to No. 2AA ranked Perham 38-16 and to
highly ranked Class A Canby 33-29. Bruce Manz was the lone Bison
wrestler to win all his matches. The Bison had a strong showing at the
White Hawk invitational at Mound where they had 174.5 points and nine
wrestlers in the top four to earn third place. They had two potential
finalists that didn’t compete in this event. Zach Smith, David Baker
and Bruce Manz all won championships. Nick Viner, Tanner Robasse, Cody
Maus and James Neddermeyer all earned second place. Tim Kunze and
Tanner Maus both earned third place.
5. BRAINERD WARRIORS
The Warriors topped four Central Lakes Conference foes Sauk Rapids
45-18, Willmar 43-26, St. Cloud Tech 41-30 and Sartell 41-19. They
topped non-conference rival Aitkin 37-28 in a very good dual. They
dropped a dual to Section 8AAA Lean and Mean Buffalo 39-23. They
dropped a Central Lakes Conference and Section dual to Lean and Mean
St. Cloud Apollo 45-21.
6. SAINT CLOUD TECH TIGERS
The Tigers topped pair of Central Lakes Conference foes Alexandria
32-30 and Willmar 49-25. They dropped a Central Lakes Conference duals
and Section 8AAA foes Brainerd 40-31 and Fergus Falls 34-30. They did
top non-conference rival Kimball in a very good dual 41-32. In a
section 8AAA dual they topped Bemidji 48-27
7. BEMIDJI LUMBER JACKS
The Lumber Jacks dropped duals to non-conference rival No. 6A ranked
Greenbush-Middle River/Badger 40-31 and Little Falls 54-17. They
dropped duals to Section 8AAA rivals St. Cloud Apollo 61-7 and St.
Cloud Tech 48-27. The Lumberjacks topped one foe at the Blaine Duals
Elk River 41-37. They dropped duals to Blaine 46-34 and
Cambridge-Isanti 61-6. Colton Doty and Derek Lofgren wee both 3-0 at
the Blaine duals. They dropped a non-conference dual to Willmar 40-27.
The Lumber Jacks ended their regular season with a big win over Section
8AAA foe Moorhead 38-34
8. ELK RIVER ELKS
The Elks topped a pair of Northwest Suburban Conference foes Park
Center 26-24 and Maple Grove. The Elks participated at the Blaine duals
the only details I was able to gather was their lost to Bemidji 41-37.
9. MOORHEAD SPUDS
The Spuds dropped a dual to cross town rival Fargo South 51-19. They
dropped two duals at the Detroit Lakes duals, Little Falls 56-22,
Pequot Lakes/Pine River/Backus 44-30 and they topped Crosby-Ironton
61-15. Ben Gaughan and Brock Tallakson both were 3-0 at the Detroit
Lakes duals. The Spuds split their Section 8AAA duals, they topped Sauk
Rapids 28-23 and they lost to St. Cloud Apollo 51-21. They had a good
showing at the “Big Ole” Tourney in Alexandria with 80.5 points and
four place winners. Nick Cullom and Ben Gaughan both earned second
place. Brock Tallakson earned third place and Jeff Knoblach took fourth
place. The Spuds topped East Grand Forks 46-26 and they dropped a dual
to Section 8AAA foe Bemidji 38-34.The Spuds went 1-2 at the Cowboy
Duals at Breckenridge with a win over Breckenridge 62-12. They dropped
duals to Border West 45-24 and Yellow Medicine East 67-6. Ben Gaughan
was the lone Spud to go 3-0 at the Cowboy duals.
10. SAUK RAPIDS STORM
The Storm dropped duals to Central Lakes Conference foes Brainerd
45-18, Rocori 45-23, Alexandria 51-15 and Apollo. They took eighth
place at the Forest Lake duals as they dropped duals to Henry Sibley
49-25, Tartan 52-20 and to Forest Lake 60-17. They were missing several
of their starters for the Forest Lake duals. The Storm dropped duals to
Section 8AAA foes Moorhead Spuds 28-23 and St. Cloud Apollo 49-18. They
dropped three duals to Class AA No. 3 ranked Foley 67-7, Becker 56-15
and to AAA ranked Centennial 54-7.
MAT RATS TOP CLASS AA TEAMS
1. SAINT MICHEAL-ALBERTVILLE KNIGHTS
The Knights topped a pair of Mississippi 8 Conference foes including
Cambridge-Isanti to win the Conference championship 40-13, Becker 58-18
and Princeton 69-3. They topped four foes at their dual meet
invitational with wins over AAA ranked Prior Lake34-27, AAA Lean and
Mean Mounds View 53-15, Annandale-Maple 49-23 and in a huge match a win
over No. 3AA ranked Foley 24-21. The Knights completed their regular
season with a win over AA ranked Milaca 33-17.
2. FOLEY FALCONS
The Falcons crushed the field of teams at the West Central North
Conference tourney with 270 points and all fourteen wrestlers placing
in the top four. The Falcons won nine championships including Cory
Foss, Tyler Lewandowski, Mike Seigler, Mitch Dunlap, Will Sustercich,
Brandon Seppelt, Jordan Linn and Kris Olson. Also earning all
conference honors was Taylor Lewandowski as he earned second place.
Earning honorable mention all conference were Jeremy Weber and Sam
Keeler as there both earned third place and Mark Gehling and Justin
Bowland both took fourth place. They topped Section 6AA and West
Central North Conference foe New London-Spicer 49-15. The Falcons won
the West Central Conference Dual meet championship over West Central
South Conference champions No. 3A ranked Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City
49-15. They topped three foes at their quadrangular AAA ranked
Centennial 50-13, Sauk Rapids 67-6 and Becker 57-15. Mitch Dunlap, Sam
Keeler and Tyler Lewandowski were all 3-0 at the quadrangular. The
Falcons went 3-1 at the Saint Michael-Albertville duals with wins over
AAA ranked Prior Lake 38-25, Lean and Mean Mounds View 57-9 and
Annandale-Maple Lake 67-6. They dropped a very close dual to Saint
Michael-Albertville 24-21. Jordan Linn went 4-0, Taylor Lenwandowski,
Kris Olson, Mike Siegler and Dustin Gilyard and Mitch Dunlap went 3-1
at the Saint Michael-Albertville.
3. MILACA WOLVES
The Wolves topped a pair of West Central North Conference Albany 55-17
and Melrose 81-0. The Wolves had an excellent tourney where they earned
second place at the West Central North Conference tourney with 162
points and eleven wrestlers placing in the top four. They had three all
conference wrestlers including champion David Fradette and Marshall Ash
and Justin Albertson as they both earned second place. A trio of Wolves
wrestlers earned honorable mention all conference as they earned third
place; Rip Baker, Ammeron Dohm and Jason Rogalla. Jake Moscho, John
Crain, Jordy Rogalla, Mike Kelly and Jesse Warren all took fourth
place. The Wolves topped Section 7AA foe Grand Rapids 32-23. The Wolves
ended their regular season dropping a dual to AA rival no. 3 ranked
Saint Michael-Albertville 33-17.
4. MORA MUSTANGS
The Mustangs topped four Section 8AAA foes, huge win over North Branch
45-9, Hinckley-Finlayson/Pine City, Virginia and Zimmerman. They topped
West Central North Conference foe New London-Spicer 33-24 and
non-conference rival Rush City 68-3. The Mustangs had a great tourney
as the earned third place at the West Central North Conference tourney
with 159 points and nine wrestlers placing in the top four. Five
wrestlers earned all conference honors including a championship by
Andrew Youngblom and seconds by Tyler Carlson, Alex Dohms, Dusty
Thorhauer and Derek Carlson. A trio of wrestlers earned honorable
mention all conference including Seth Sanftner, Blake Menard and Brett
Drews as they all earned third place. Ethan Purdy took fourth place and
a pair of fifth place and one sixth place to finish just three points
behind runner up Milaca. The Mustangs topped three Section 7AA foes
Hinckley-Finlayson/Pine City 62-9, Princeton 53-15 and Virginia 64-6.
Dusty Kastenhauer, Ken Kastenhauer, Seth Sanftner, Andrew Youngblom,
Blake Menard and Tyler Carlson were all 3-0 at the Mora quadrangular.
The Mustangs had an excellent showing at the “Purple Pride” Tourney at
Albany as they earned 228 points and thirteen wrestlers placing in the
top four to win the championship over No. 3A ranked
Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City. Dusty Thorhauer and Seth Sanftner both won
championships and Alex Dahmn, Andrew Youngblom, Britt Drews, Zane Van
Vleet, Derek Carlson and Blake Menard all earned second place. Brent
Schroeder, Sam Lawrence, Ethan Purdy and Codie LaFrombosies all took
fourth place and Bryan Hanson took fifth place.
5. NEW LONDON SPICER WILDCATS
The Wildcats topped Section 6AA foes Dassel Cokato 34-28 and
Annandale/Maple Lake 53-8. They dropped a pair of duals to Section 6AA
and West Central North rival Foley 49-15 and West Central North
Conference foe Mora 33-24. The Wildcats earned fourth place at the West
Central North Conference tourney with 146 Points and nine wrestlers
placing in the top four. They had four wrestlers earn all conference
honors including one championship by Chase Austvold. Shawn Hatlestad,
Dylan Hanson and John Nething all earned second place. Earning
honorable mention all conference were Tanner Tobkin, Luke Reiter and
Ben Henle. Tom Duscher and Chris Pfau both took fourth place. The
Wildcats topped rival BOLD 36-22. They earned fourth place at the Anoka
duals with a win over AAA ranked St. Francis 36-32. They dropped dual
to host Anoka 34-23 and Yellow Medicine East 31-25. Chase Austvold,
Shawn Hatlestad, John Nething and Tom Duscher were all 3-0 at the Anoka
duals.
6. FERGUS FALLS OTTERS
The Otters topped two Central Lakes Conference foes St. Cloud Apollo
36-35 and St. Cloud Tech. They earned second place at the Detroit Lakes
duals with two big wins over Detroit Lakes 41-27 and Dassel Cokato
37-34. They dropped the championship dual to Section 8AA and No. 7AA
ranked Thief River Falls 49-21. Josh Campion, Colton Thorstad, Jesse
Laugen and Matt Laugen were all 3-0 at the Detroit Lakes duals. The
Otters dropped three duals at the Anoka invitational to host Anoka
54-18, St. Francis 52-23 and Eagen 33-31. Jesse Laugen and Ryan
Jacobson were both 3-0 at the Anoka tournament. They dropped a dual to
Central Lakes Conference foe Alexandria 30-27. The Otters completed
their regular season with a win over Central Lakes Conference rival St.
Cloud Tech 34-30.
7. LITTLE FALLS FLYERS
The Flyers topped Section 8AA foe Pequot Lakes/Pine River/Backus 42-29
and non-conference rival Bemidji 54-17. They topped a Central Lakes
Conference foe Rocori 38-31. They dropped duals to Central Lakes
Conference rivals St. Cloud Apollo 39-18 and Alexandria 34-26. They
dropped a dual to Section 8AA and No. 2AA ranked Perham 50-16. The
Flyers earned third place at the Detroit Lakes duals with a win over
Moorhead 56-22 in the quarterfinals. They dropped their semifinal dual
to Section 8AA and No. 7AA ranked Thief River Falls 45-15. In a very
good dual they topped Dassel Cokato 42-30. Cody Bue and Dillon Kifer
were both 3-0 at the Detroit Lakes duals.
8. DASSEL COKATO CHARGERS
The Chargers topped three Wright County Conference foes with wins over
Watertown-Mayer 42-22, Orono 58-15. The dropped a very close dual to
Section 6AA foe New London-Spicer 34-28. They earned fourth place at
the Detroit Lakes duals with their quarterfinal win over Crosby-Ironton
48-19. They dropped their semifinal dual to Fergus Falls 37-34 and
their third place match to Little Falls 42-30. Brandon Fiedler, Zach
Peteron and Tyler Dobmeier were all unbeaten at the Detroit Lakes
Duals. They topped Section 6AA foe Monticello 39-28 to clinch a number
three seed in the section duals. The Chargers ended their regular
season with three big wins at the Glencoe Quadrangular. They topped
Wright County Conference foe Glencoe-Silver Lake/LP 67-11, Section 6AA
foe Rocori 44-20 and AAA Faribault 48-14. Brandon Fiedler, Dan Wanha,
Max Anderson, Kevin Johnson, Brendan Opsahl and Dakota Hanson were all
3-0 at the Glencoe Quadrangular.
9. DAWSON-BOYD/LQPV
They earned fifth place at the West Central South Conference tourney
with 145.5 points and eight wrestlers placing in the top four. They had
three all conference wrestlers, including Sam Haas, Jake Bothun nd
Dylan Croat all earned second. A pair of wrestlers earned honorable
mention all conference John Weeding and Ryan Swenson both earned third
place. Colton Kanstrup, Matt Behmer and Jack Massee all took fourth
place. They topped section 3A foe Renville County West 48-23,
Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa 64-12 and non-conference foe Marshall 43-18.
They topped Canby for the first time in many years 33-25. They earned
fifth place at the Tiger Invitational at Morris despite having two
potential finalists sitting out. The 116 points and five wrestlers
place in the top four. Zac Zinda and Christian Olson both earned second
place and Tanner Avelsgard, Delaney Brown and Nate Stottler all earned
third place.
10. LITCHFIELD DRAGONS
The Dragon topped three Wright County Conference foes with wins over
Waconia 33-33 (Criteria most Falls),Watertown-Mayer 37-30
Annandale/Maple Lake 39-26 and Glencoe-Silver Lake/LP 58-15. The topped
one foe at the Paynesville duals; that was the host 34-33 in a very
close dual. They lost duals to Sauk Centre 32-29 and BOLD 35-25. Kyle
Ballard, Dan Cox, Kody Kalkbrenner and David Cox were all 3-0 at the
Paynesville duals. They dropped a dual to Wright County Conference
rival Delano 40-27.
11. MONTICELLO MAGIC
The Magic earned third place at the Pete Veldman Invitational at South
St. Paul with 138 points and nine wrestlers placing in the top five of
this sixteen team event.
Tyler Mergen won the lone championship, Ben Schwartz earned second
place, Eric Bourgeois earned third place. Joe Jude and Randy Ascher
both earned fourth place and Ryan Michaels, Jake Schmitz and Sebastian
Gardner all took fifth place. The Magic topped Mississippi 8 Conference
rivals Becker 39-32 and Rogers 65-6. They defeated Elk River 35-28 and
Park Center 51-27. They dropped a Mississippi 8 Conference dual to
Buffalo 39-26. The Magic completed their regular season with as they
drop a dual to Section 6AA foe Dassel Cokato 39-28.
12. NORTH BRANCH VIKINGS
The Vikings had an impressive showing at the Skip Nalan tourney in
Grand Rapids as they won the championship with 237.5 points and eleven
wrestlers placing in the top five in this thirteen team field. Boyd
Suparat and Justin Bergerson both won championships and John Bergerson
earned second place. Erik Chounard, Andy Freel, Stuart Frink and Tom
Mork all earned third place. Jake Kostik earned fourth place and Reid
Johnson, Nick Salo and Chad Anderson all took fifth place. They topped
Rush City 63-12 and Section 7AA foe Chisago Lakes 38-24. They dropped a
dual to Section 7AA rival Mora 45-9. They topped North Suburban
Conference foes Spring Lake Park and Columbia Heights.
MAT RATS TOP CLASS A TEAMS
1. KERKHOVEN-MURDOCK-SUNBERG FIGHTING SAINTS
The Fighting Saints had a very good showing as they won the Camden
Conference Championship with 227.5 points and twelve wrestlers placing
in the top four. They won seven championships including Adam Wentzel,
Kurt Timmons, Aaron Zimmer, Joel Bauman, Mitch Hagen and Kevin
Steinhaus. Brad Kneisl also won a championship and for his performance
he was voted by the coaches as the outstanding wrestler of the tourney.
Klinton VanHeuveln earned second place, Tyler Carlson, Aaron Dorask and
Trevor Mahlum all earned third place. Casey Krieger took fourth place.
They topped two foes Lean and Mean AA Dawson-Boyd/LQPV 49-14 and
Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa 55-15. The Fighting Saints continue to improve
as they topped No. 8A ranked and Section 3A foe Yellow Medicine East
54-10 and Benson 48-28. Another great showing they topped the field of
teams at the “Big Ole” Tourney at Alexandria with 240.5 points and
thirteen wrestlers placing in the top four. They won six championships
by Tyler Carlson, Jordan Rothers, Aaron Zimmer, Mitch Hagen, Joel
Bauman and Kevin Steinhaus. Jacob Engler had a great tourney, as Jacob
and Brad Kneisl both earned second place. Kurt Timmons and Klinton
VanHeubeln both earned third place. A trio of fourth places were earned
by Aaron Doraska, Trevor Mahlum and Adam Wentzel. The Fighting Saints
turned in another strong performance to end the regular season with
240.5 points and thirteen wrestlers placing in the top four at the
Morris Tiger Invitational. Tyler Carlson, Klinton VanHeuveln,
Aaron Zimmer, Kevin Steinhaus, Mitch Hagen, Joel Bauman, Brad Kneisl
and Adam Wentzel all won championships. Jacob Engler and Jordan Rothers
both earned second place.
2. ATWATER-COSMOS-GROVE CITY
The Falcons topped two West Central Conference South foes Montevideo
60-9 and Morris Area/CA 66-6. They had a great showing to earn the West
Central South Conference tourney with 215.5 points and nine wrestlers
placing in the top four. The Falcons had six wrestlers earn all
conference honors, including championships by Hayden Rouser, Scott
Litzau, Matt Meyer, Micah Larson and Deron Buboltz and Travis
Frederikson earned second place. Deron Buboltz was voted by the coaches
as the outstanding wrestler of the tourney with his performance. Travis
Whitcomb earned third place to be name honorable mention all
conference. Matt Lee and Michael Kramer both took fourth place. The
Falcons earned second place at the “Purple Pride” tourney at Albany
with 172 points and thirteen place winners. One championship by Micah
Larson and seconds by Hayden Rouser, Travis Frederiksen and Michael
Kramer. Scott Litzau, Matt Meyer, Travis Whicomb and Deron Buboltz all
earned third place. Ryan Larson, James Nelson and Dylan Nelson all took
fourth place and Matt Lee and Jesse Whitcomb both took fifth place.
3. BOLD WARRIORS
The Warriors topped non-conference foe Willmar 34-18. They earned third
place at the West Central South Conference tourney with 174.5 points
and eight wrestlers placing in the top four. Cody Goldschmidt, Sam
Steffel and Dustin Caspers all won championships and all conference
honors. Kyle Schulte earned second place and also all conference
honors. Cody Hatch and Zach Revier both earned third place and
honorable mention all conference. Ricky Morales and Alex Steffel both
took fourth place. They dropped a dual to AA ranked New London-Spicer
36-22. They topped two foes at the Paynesville duals to earn second
place. They beat Litchfield 35-25, Watertown-Mayer 44-21. They dropped
the championship to No. 2AA ranked Perham 39-12. Kyle Schulte and Cody
Goldschmidt were both 3-0 at the Paynesville duals.
4. YELLOW MEDICINE EAST STING
The Sting topped three foes at the Glencoe-Silver Lake quadrangular
with wins over AA New Ulm 51-15, Glencoe-Silver Lake 62-12 and over AA
Lean and Mean Delano 34-26. Casey Field, Dylan Hoffman, Evan Knutson
and Levi Specht all were 3-0 at the quadrangular. The earned second
place at the West Central South Conference tourney with 178 points and
eight wrestling that place in the top four. Casey Field, Austen Cole
and Evan Stock all won conference championships to earned all
Conference honors and Dylan Hoffman and Justin Tongen both earned
second place to also earned all conference honors. Levi Specht earned
third place to give him honorable mention all conference. Evan Knutson
and Derek Dyrdahl both took fourth place. The Sting topped Section 3A
foe Pipestone 47-23 and they dropped a dual to Section 3A rival Canby
32-26. The Sting earned second place at the “Cowboy Duals” at
Breckenridge with big wins over Breckenridge 64-9 and Moorhead 67-6.
They dropped their final to Browerville/Eagle Valley 31-29. Austin
Cole, Justin Tongen, Derek Dyrdahl, Cody Sander and Evan Stock were all
3-o for the Sting. With Casey Field back in the lineup for Sections
will make the Sting a force to be dealt with.
5. PAYNESVILLE BULLDOGS
The Bulldogs had a good showing at the West Central South Conference
tourney with 14.5 points and eight wrestlers placing in the top four.
They earned fourth place with this showing including five wrestlers
earning all conference honors by Dylan Sheridan, he won the lone
championship and Jon Kerzman, Tyler Hemmesch and Michael Doom. Andrew
Moser, Justin Wendlandt and Dominick Platow all earned third place to
take honorable mention all conference honors. The Bulldogs dropped
three very close duals at the dual meet invitational; Buffalo 34-28,
Canby 35-28 and Litchfield 33-32. Matt Doom, Justin Wendlandt and
Andrew Moser were all 3-0 at the Bulldog duals. They closed out their
regular season with hug wins at the Belgrade Quadrangular. They topped
Section 5A foes BBE 52-22, Sauk Centre 37-24 and Parkers Prairie 65-15.
Cole Woehler, Dylan Sheridan, Brent Schlangen, Jon Kerzman, Justin
Wendlandt, Tyler Hemmesch and Andrew Moser were all 3-0 at the BBE Quad.
7. BROWERVILLE/EAGLE VALLEY BRONCOS
The Broncos topped section 5A foes Long Prairie-Grey Eagle 53-21, Eden
Valley-Watkins 32-27 and Sauk Centre 44-12. They had a great dual with

The Broncos topped the field of teams at the B/EV duals with wins over
a pair of section 5A teams Holdingford 56-15 and Howard Lake Waverley
Winsted 46-15. They topped West Central Area 55-9 to win the
championship at the B/EV “Bronco” Duals. Randy Shamp, Julius Stone,
Travis Borchert, Mitch Schumann and Nathan Theilen were all 3-0 at the
Bronco Duals. The Broncos had a great tourney as they earned the Park
Region Conference Tourney championship with 218 points and eleven
wrestlers placing in the topped four. Travis Borchert won a
championship, with his excellent performance he was named the
Outstanding Wrestler. Andy Lancaster was voted by his fellow coaches
the Coach of the Year. Julius Stone, Tyler Spychalla and Brian Denny
all won championships. Nate Becker, Lucas Kalina, Mitch Shuman and
Ridge Quistorff all earned second place. Nathan Thielen earned third
place and Randy Shamp and Ethan Norwood both took fourth place. They
topped Park Region Conference foes New York Mills 41-27 and United
North Central 66-11. The Broncos had a very impressive showing to close
out the regular season by earning three big wins at the “Cowboy Duals”
at Breckenridge. They topped East Grand Forks/Sacred Heart 60-12, Lean
and Mean Class A Border West 44-27 and Class A No. 8 ranked Yellow
Medicine East 31-29. Lukas Kaline, Brian Denny, Keith Pudwell, Julius
Stone, Tyler Spychall and Brad Schettler were all 3-0 at the
Breckenridge duals.
6. BORDER WEST BUCCANEERS
The Buccaneers continue to turn in strong showings with big wins over
section 6A teams Wadena-Deer Creek 42-25 and Breckenridge 60-18. They
topped two class A foes at the Browerville/Eagle Duals Holdingford
45-23 and Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa 64-12. They dropped a dual to Howard
Lake/Waverly/Winsted 39-31. Will McCarthy, Zack Fridgen and Luke
Schmitz all were all 3-0 at the Bronco Duals. They topped South Dakota
rival Sissiston 50-21. They topped Ortonville 62-9, Milbank, SD 45-25
and Groten, SD 47-23. No further details were made available on the
triangular. The Buccaneers earned third place at the “Cowboy Duals” at
Breckenridge with wins over Moorhead 45-24 and East Grand Forks/Sacred
Heart 60-12 and they dropped a dual to Lean and Mean Class A
Browerville/Eagle Valley 44-27. Mitch Andrews and Reece Hanson were
both 3-0 at the Cowboy duals.
8. EDEN-VALLEY-WATKINS EAGLES
The Eagles topped a pair of Section 5A teams Long Prairie-Grey Eagle
53-21 and Osakis 51-15. They dropped a very close dual to
Browerville-Eagle Valley 32-27. Jeff Dockendorf, Mike Sullivan and Joe
Holdvogt were all 3-0 at the Bronco quadrangular. The Eagles dropped a
dual to Section 5A foe Paynesville 42-17. The Eagles won the Central
Minnesota Conference Dual meet Championships with their wins over
conference foes Pierz 36-28 and Rockford 48-19 and they topped Section
5A foes Minnewaska 30-25 and Sauk Centre 46-22.
9. MINNEWASKA LAKERS
The Lakers earned 143 points and seven wrestlers place in the top four
at the West Central South Conference tourney to take sixth place. They
had four that earned all conference honors Colin Jergenson won their
lone championship and Jacob Braaten, David Cowen and Brandon
Manderschied all earned second place to all conference honors. Grant
Winter and Cam Schafer both earned third place to make honorable
mention all conference. Micah Klemme took fourth place. Colin Jergenson
was voted by the coaches as the outstanding wrestler of the tourney for
his performance. The dropped a West Central South Conference dual to
Benson 35-31.The Lakers topped Section 5A rival Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa
41-12. They had a great tourney at the “Big Ole” Tourney at Alexandria
with 134 points and ten wrestlers placing in the top four. They earned
third place with their showing including one championship by Collin
Jergenson. Jacob Braaton and Grant Winter both earned second place and
Cam Schafer earned third place. Anderson Clare, Zach Steffenson, Justin
Roggenkamp, Gary Steffensen, Pat Krueger and Micah Klemme all took
fourth place. The Lakers closed out their regular season as they hosted
their quadrangular; they topped two foes they wins over Section 5A foes
Sauk Centre 55-18 and Kimball 42-32. They dropped a very close dual
Eden Valley-Watkins 30-25. Cam Schafer, Collin Jorgensen, David Cowen
and Brandon Manderschied were all 3-0 at the Lakers quad.
10. STAPLES-MOTLEY CARDINALS
The Cardinals topped two Section 6A foes Parkers Prairie 45-15 and
Breckenridge 56-19. The Cardinals had a great tourney performance with
224.5 points and all fourteen wrestlers placing in the top four to win
the championship at the Wolfpack Invitational at Walker. Jordan
Bendson, Devin Becker and Jordan Heldmen all won championships. Trent
Carlson, Nick Trout, Chandler Trout, Blake Patrich and Andrew Robben
all earned second place. Taylor Bendson, Ryan Detloff, Gavin Kadec and
Sam Duberowski all earned third place and Dylan Sheaquen and Brent
Lisson both took fourth place. The Cardinals split their final to duals
to Section 6A rival Pelican Rapids 33-30 and they topped Mid-State
Conference foe Crosby-Ironton 45-15.
11. BENSON BRAVES
The Braves topped West Central South Conference foe Minnewaska 35-31.
The earned seventh place at the West Central South Conference tourney
with 117 points and four place winners. Ryan Thompson won the lone
championship and earned all conference honors. Dalton Staton earned
second place to be named all conference. Chris Corruth earned third
place for honorable mention all conference honors and Justin Gold took
fourth place. The Braves topped Red Rock Central 45-28 in a very good
dual. They dropped a Section 3A duals No. 2A ranked Minneota 45-25 and
KMS 48-28.
12. ROYALTON ROYALS
The Royals topped three Central Minnesota Conference foes Rockford
48-23, Belgrade 48-20 and Pierz 39-27. No details were made available
on the Rockford dual. The Royals topped Section 7A and Central
Minnesota Conference rival Pierz 39-27. With this win the Royals
secured the number one seed in Section 7A.
BERTHA HEWITT/VERNDALE RAIDERS
The Raiders topped two foes including Section 6A rival New York Mills
39-38 and Park Region Conference foe United North Central 57-22. They
dropped a pair of duals to Park Region Conference foe Browerville/Eagle
Valley 40-27 and West Central area 33-32. The Raiders earned third
place at the Park Region Conference tourney with 145 points and seven
wrestlers placing in the top four. Jake Braaten, Matt Moenkedick, Wade
Moenkedick and Nathan Wiese all won championships. Amos Schmidt and
Jackie Swenson both earned third place and Justin Kern took fourth
place. They topped Long Prairie-Grey Eagle in a good dual 33-28.
MILLE LACS RAIDERS
The Raiders topped two Great River Conference foes
Hinckley-Finlayson/PC 42-33 and Rush City. They dropped a section 7A
dual to Trinity 36-32 and they topped AA St. Thomas 46-27. They topped
two foes at the “Royal Rumble” at Rogers with wins over Minnehaha
Academy 58-15, Rogers 49-11. They dropped the championship dual to
Renville County West 46-25. The Raiders topped the field with their
performance at the Great River Conference with 211 points and twelve
placing in the four. Ryan Jones and Bobby Kulhanek both won
championships and Bradlee Brown, Chase Niesen, Zach Olson, William
Ellies and Dillon Whitney all earned second place. Cody Whitney, Mark
Francour, Matt Gingery and Ian Pratt all earned third place and Seth
Kuntz took fourth place.
AITKIN GOBBLERS
The Gobblers earned fifth place at the Skip Nalan tourney in Grand
Rapids with 160 points and eight place winners in this thirteen team
field. Levi Stifter earned second place, Keith Wasserzchier, Jordan
Chouanard and Dalton Stevens all earned third place. Taylor Wilke,
Craig Luthers, Travis Taenge and T. J. Landrus all took fourth place.
They dropped a dual to AAA rival Brainerd 37-28. The Gobblers earned
second place at the Great River Conference with 204.5 points and eleven
wrestlers placing in the top three. Dalton Stevens and Taylor Wilke
both won championships and Keith Wasserzieher, Jordan Chouanard and
Travis Tuenge all earned second place. Jeff Moe, Isaac Novak, Taylor
Bitker, Kevin Handt, Levi Stifter and Doug Kommer all earned third
place.
NEW YORK MILLS EAGLES
The Eagles topped Wadena-Deer Creek 34-33 and they dropped a dual to
Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale 39-38. The Eagles took fifth place at the Park
Region Conference tourney with 130 points and six wrestlers that place
in the top four. Shane Novak won the lone championship, Jordan Novak
and Myrone Bell both earned second place. Nathan Burg and Tommy
Sealander both earned third place and Ty Bell took fourth place. The
Eagles topped Walker--Hackensack-Ackley 52-17 to close the regular
season.
WADENA DEER CREEK WOLVERINES
The Wolverines topped Section 6A foes Parkers Prairie 38-33, Ottertail
Central 54-19, Breckenridge 54-20 and Barnesville 59-12. They dropped
Section 6A foes Border West 42-25 and New York Mills 34-33. In their
Mid-State Conference Quadrangular they topped Crosby-Ironton 51-19 and
they lost to Detroit Lakes 48-23 and Pequot Lakes/Pine River/Backus
41-33. Jordan Rentz and Eddie Lustila were both 3-0 at the quad. They
earned fourth place at the “Big Ole Tourney” Alexandria with 106 points
and six wrestlers placing in the top four, including one championship
by Mitch Steffens. Jared Wegscheid earned second place and Eddie
Lustila, Jacob Wegscheid and Zach Bernu all earned third place and
Jordan Rentz took fourth place.
