Apple Valley highlights 2009 teams for the Rumble on the Red Wrestling Championships
May 15, 2009
The Fargo-Moorhead Athletic Commission is proud to announce the teams
for the 4th annual Rumble on the Red Wrestling Championships to be held
Dec 29-30, 2009 at the Fargodome in Fargo, North Dakota.
The Rumble on the Red, which is sanctioned and hosted by the Metro
Tournament Committee and West Fargo High School, has teams coming from
three states (MN, ND, SD) and are headlined by arguably the best high
school team in the country, Apple Valley-MN. Each team is allowed to
enter one wrestler per weight class in the varsity division and an
unlimited number of wrestlers in the JV division. The Rumble Youth
Duals will be expanded this year to accommodate a maximum of 20 teams.
The Fargodome was packed last year with 1314 Varsity/JV wrestlers and
240 youth wrestlers. Tournament Director Steve Saxlund explained, “The
great thing about this event is that your entire team can wrestle here,
whether you have 10 wrestlers on your team or 50.” The youth duals
format allows the younger wrestlers to get involved also, “The addition
of the youth duals gives the younger wrestlers a chance to compete in a
big time event and watch some great wrestling,” Saxlund stated.
Returning Team Champions, Foley-MN, will look to defend its title
against contenders Apple Valley, Adrian, Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg,
Owatonna, Rapid City-Stevens, and Thief River Falls. Additional
information can be found on the NEW tournament website: www.fargorumble.com or by contacting Steve Saxlund at steve@fargomoorhead.org or Todd Fuller at fuller@3timegear.com.
