Jackson County Hall of Fame

December 9, 2009

The third round of inductees into the Jackson County Wrestling Hall of Fame will be honored Thursday.

In this year's group of inductees are Craig Muir, Marc Harwood, Todd Card, Dave Hansen, Gene Michelson and Kent Johnson.

They will be inducted at a ceremony at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the Jackson County Central Performing Arts Center. Refreshments will be served at 5 p.m.

The Huskies are hosting Pipestone in a Southwest Conference dual that night, with JV competition to start at 6 p.m. A pork sandwich meal will be available in the JCC Commons, with proceeds going to the Flat Earth Wrestling Club.

In addition to the Hall of Fame event Thursday, 50 years of wrestling in Jackson County will be celebrated.

T-shirts commemorating a half-century of wrestling will be on sale.

Craig Muir was the county's first state place winner when he finished fourth as junior at the one-class state tournament in 1964. He also qualified for the state tourney as a senior in 1965 but did not place.

Marc Harwood had a career record of 190-25, which had him in the top 20 in state history when he graduated in 2002.

He was a four-time state qualifier, winning two state titles and also placing fourth and sixth. Harwood was part of state team champion in 1999 and 2000.

Harwood wrestled at Nebraska and is the head coach at Emmetsburg.

Todd Card was an assistant coach at Jackson High School starting in 1990, was a co-head coach with the Heron Lake-Okabena-Lakefield/Jackson Jaguars and an assistant coach with JCC.

Card is the head coach at Hutchinson, where he has led the Tigers to 217 wins and three state team tournament appearances.

Dave Hansen, Gene Michelson and Kent Johnson are all long-time supporters and contributors to wrestling in the county, with their time and financially.

They were active in the JAY wrestling program in Jackson and have worked the scoreboard, time clock and have announced at home meets for a number of years.

Thursday's home meet is now one of only two home appearances for the JCC wrestlers this season. The other is the Pizza Ranch Invitational Saturday.

It is expected that Tuesday's home dual meet against Blue Earth Area will be rescheduled.
