MAT RATS TOP CLASS AAA TEAMS
1. SAINT MICHEAL-ALBERTVILLE KNIGHTS
The Knights had a very strong showing to start their season with a huge
win over Mississippi 8 foe Big Lake 58-13. They crushed the field of
eight teams in their tournament with 273 points and thirteen wrestlers
placing in the top four. Jordan Campa, Kraig Schumm, Parker Betts, Jake
Lillie, Michael Lindquist and Tommy Thorn all won championships. Cole
Sladek, Ryan Kessler, Ben Horn, Kyle Salonek and Wayne Voss all earned
seconds. Earning third place was Ryan Stott and taking fourth place
Mike Nerdahl. The Knights continue to roll as they topped three AAA
foes at the Coon Rapids "Cardinal" Duals. They crushed Osseo 74-6 and
host Coon Rapids in the semifinals 44-12 and in the championship in a
great match they topped Cambridge 27-26 (8th criteria) most first match
points. Cole Sladek, Ben Horn, Kraig Schumm, Ryan Kessler and Parker
Betts were all 3-0. The Knights topped Mississippi 8 foe Zimmerman 56-9.
2. CAMBRIDGE BLUE JACKETS
The Blue Jackets had a great start to their season as they topped
Mississippi 8 foe Zimmerman 62-9. They topped three foes at the White
Bear Lake quadrangular with big wins over Hibbing 43-25, Mahtomedi
60-18 and White Bear Lake 43-25. Landon Chumley, Clayton Jennisen and
Scott Gifford all were 3-0 at the quadrangular. The Blue Jackets had a
good performance at the Coon Rapids "Cardinal" Duals with two big wins
over Moundsview 59-12 and Henry Sibley 37-32. They dropped a very
exciting match to Saint Michael-Albertville 27-26, that was decided by
the 8th criteria. Tyler Tischer, Travis Holt, Ty Torgerson and Clayton
Jennissen were all 3-0.
3. ST. CLOUD APOLLO EAGLES
The Eagles took a huge step toward a Central Lakes Conference
championship with a big win over CLC foe Little Falls 51-24. They also
had a very impressive performance at the Monticello "Magic" duals with
four huge dual meet wins over St. Francis 39-30, New Ulm 54-12, Orono
57-24 and Annandale/Maple Lake 45-25. Little Falls forfeited in the
championship to the Eagles. Chris Rocheleau, Nolan Rial, Nam Nguyen and
Mitch Bengtson were all 4-0 and Grant Dullinger, Alex Lawwell and Grant
Nehring were all 3-1 to lead the way for the Eagles. The Eagles topped
Central Conference foe and cross town rival St. Cloud Tech 50-22. They
had a great performance at the Big Lake "Hornet" tournament where they
earned 197 points and ten wrestlers placed in the top five to take
second place. Grant Dullinger, Mitch Bengtson, Alex Lawwell, Nolan Rial
and Sam Koetter all won championships. David Then earned third place
and Nick Lawwell, Colton Halley and Grant Nehring all earned fourth
place. Clayton Athman took fifth place.
4. BRAINERD WARRIORS
The Warriors started their season with a very good performance as they
topped Central Lakes Conference foe St. Cloud Tech 62-12. The Warriors
topped the field of teams at the Blue Earth Area "Dick Maher"
Tournament with 186.5 points and nine wrestlers placing in the top
three. Sam Pagel, Mack Glasby and Aaron Padmos all won championships
and Luke Boran and Jessen Franzen both earned seconds. Earning third
places were Chad Ohman, Matt Solid, Nick Grausam and Levi Rubin. The
Warriors crushed Central Lakes Conference foe Alexandria 52-18. The
Warriors had a great tourney at their Paul Bunyan Invitational where
they earned 129.5 points and had six wrestlers place in the top fifth
to take fourth place in this sixteen team field of teams. Mack Glasby
earned second place, Chad Ohman, Jesse Franzen and Aaron Padmos all
earned third place. Luke Boran earned fourth place and Sam Pagel took
fifth place.
5. ELK RIVER ELKS
The Elks had a strong performance to start their season as they topped
Northwest Suburban foe Blaine 39-34. They had a very good showing at
the Saint Michael-Albertville "Knights" Invitational with 147
points and ten wrestlers placing in the top five to earn fourth
place. Eric and Tyler Stevens both won championships and Austin Stevens
earned second place. Earning third place were Jake Staffenhagen and
Mitch Beudry, earning fourth place were Yong Yee Vang, Kyle Wiemen and
Evan Caldon. Taking fifth place for the Elks were Robert Ketcham and
Nick Madsen. The Elks had a very good showing at the Milaca "Wolf"
Duals with wins over Holdingford 46-18 and Stillwater 41-26, before
dropping the championship dual to host Milaca 61-15. Yong Vang and
Austin Stevens were both 3-0 at the Milaca duals.
6. ROCORI SPARTANS
The Spartans had a very strong performance to start their season as
they topped two Section 8AAA foes Sauk Rapids 42-34 and Buffalo 40-25.
They earned third place at the Foley "Falcon" duals with a win over
Pierz 38-37, they dropped their semifinal dual to no. 2AA ranked Foley
59-9 before dropping their third place match to last year state
participate Royalton 41-30. The Spartans had one wrestler to go 3-0 at
the Foley duals, Alex Weiman won all of his matches. They topped
Central Lakes Conference foe Sartell 54-21. The Spartans earned 112.5
points and had ten wrestlers place in the top five at the Shakopee
"JC's" Tournament to earned fifth place. Ben Witrock, Alex Weiman and
Kyle Lieser all earned second place. Tim Soldner, Nate Ness, Alex
Austad and Adam Kunz all earned fourth place. Adam Liestman, Jordan
Hemmesh and Levi Olivier all took fifth place.
7. MOORHEAD SPUDS
The Spuds had a great performance as they topped cross town rival Fargo
North 42-32 to open their season. They had a good showing at the
Brainerd "Paul Bunyan" tournament where they earned 88 points and they
had five wrestlers place in the top six. The Spuds earned tenth place
in this tough field of sixteen teams. Mark Wychor won their lone
championship and Jacob Rositas and Brock Tallakson both earned third
place. Chase Morlock earned fifth place and A. J. Wheeler took sixth
place.
8. SAUK RAPIDS STORM
The Storm split a pair of duals to start their season with Section 8AAA
foes, they topped Buffalo 40-25 and they dropped a good dual to Rocori
42-34. The Storm went 1-4 at the Monticello "Magic" Duals with a win
over North Branch 37-36 and dropped a very close match to Orono 40-39.
They lost their other duals to Little Falls 39-33, Bloomington Kennedy
45-30 and to the host Monticello 48-21. Eric Olson, Tyler Diederich and
Ryan Medlen were all 5-0 and Mitch Mehwerth was 4-1 on the day to lead
the way for the Storm. They dropped a dual to Central Lakes Conference
foe Fergus Falls 40-25 and they topped class A Parkers Prairie 52-30.
They dropped duals to Stillwater 37-25 and Milaca 50-18 at the Milaca
"Wolf" Duals. Eric Olson, Austin Waltz, Stephen Bucholtz and Shane
Fesenmaier were all 3-0.
9. BUFFALO BISON
The Bison have had a pretty slow start to their season as they dropped
their opening duals to a pair of Section 8AAA foes Sauk Rapids 47-21
and Rocori 40-25. They earned ninth place at the Osseo tourney with
66.6 points with three place winners. Tim Ruter won a championship,
Aaron Duran earned third place and Tanner Maus took fifth place.
10. ST. CLOUD TECH TIGERS
The Tigers have had a bit of a slow start as they dropped a Central
Lakes Conference dual to Brainerd 62-12. They earned sixth place at the
Saint Michael-Albertville "Knights" Invitational with 82 points and six
place winners. Peter Kalla earned second place, Tommy O'Brien and
Deiter Brenner both earned third place, Ben Lortz earned fourth place
and Nate Lortz and Bryan Amudson both took fifth place. The Tigers
dropped a Central Lakes Conference dual to cross town rival St. Cloud
Apollo 50-22. They earned fifth place at the Big Lake "Hornet"
Invitational with 101.5 points and seven wrestlers in the top five.
Tommy O'Brien and Shane Kellner both earned second place and Dieter
Brenner earned third place. Ben Lortz, Peter Kalla, Nathan Lortz and
Jake Wirz all earned fourth place.
11. BEMIDJI LUMBERJACKS
The Lumberjacks opened up their season with a great performance as they
topped Roseau 49-27. They earned sixty two points at the Paul Bunyan
tournament and had four place winners including Corey Huber earned
second place and Dale Norton earned fourth place. Jake Crosby and Logan
Crosby both took sixth place.
12. WILLMAR CARDINALS
The Cardinals dropped a Central Lakes Conference dual in their
opener to Fergus Falls 45-33. The earned seventh place at the
Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa "Jaguar" Invitational with 79 points and five
place winners. Nathan Swoyer won a championship, Alex Johannes earned
second place and Adam Fogerstrom earned third place. Eugene Stepan and
Coty Milhausen both took fourth place. The Cardinals dropped a Central
Lakes Conference dual to Little Falls 48-27. They earned sixth place
with 120 points at their Cardinal Classic Invitational with eight
wrestlers placing in the top five. Alex Johannes and Coty Milhausen
both won championships and Adam Fagerstrom, Nathan Swoyer and C. J.
Barkley all earned fourth place and taking fifth place were; Mason
Pomerleau, Eugen Stepan and Shawn Johnson.
13. ALEXANDRIA CARDINALS
The Cardinals are off to a slow start as they dropped their opener to
Central Lakes Conference foe Sartell 47-33. They earned seventh place
at the Litchfield "Dragons" Invitational with 94 points and three
wrestlers placing in the top three. Ross Carlson won a championship,
Lucas Betterman earned second place and Andy Bouressa took third place.
The dropped a Central Lakes Conference dual to Brainerd 52-18. The
Cardinals earned 103.5 points to take ninth place at the Grant County
Invitational. Five wrestlers placed in the top four including Lucas
Betterman, Kyle Fulghum, Dalton Frovarp and Ross Carlson all earned
second place and earning fifth place Cole Ellison.
MAT RATS TOP CLASS AA TEAMS
1. FOLEY FALCONS
The Falcons got their season started with a solid performance at their
dual meet invitational with big wins over Cloquet 69-9, Rocori 59-9 and
for the championship Paynesville 44-18. Mark Gehling, Brandon Seppelt,
Zach Jackson and Justin Bowland were all 3-0 at the duals. They topped
West Central North Conference foe Albany 59-9.The Falcons had an
outstanding performance at the Brainerd "Paul Bunyan" Tournament where
they scored 274.5 points and twelve wrestlers placing in the top six in
this sixteen team field of teams. Brandon Seppelt, Keith Thell, Tyler
Jenson, Mitch Dunlap and Justin Bowland all won championships and Mark
Gehling and Tyler Lewandowski both earned second place. Will
Sustercich, Zack Jackson and Jordan Bialke all earned third place,
Taylor Lewandowski earned fifth place and Sam Keller took sixth place.
2. MORA MUSTANGS
The Mustangs started their season with a couple of great showings
despite having four starters out of the lineup. They won the Chisago
Lakes "Wildcat" duals with wins over Chisago Lakes 49-13 and section
7AA rivals Hibbing 48-24 and Grand Rapids 37-30. Andrew Youngblom, Zane
VanVleet, Blake Menard, Tyler Carlson and Derek Carlson were all 3-0 at
the tournament. The Mustangs also topped West Central Conference and
Section 7AA foe Milaca 39-21. They topped the field of teams at the
Delano "Tiger" Invitational with 240.5 points and twelve wrestlers
placing in the top five. Derek Carlson, Blake Menard, Andrew Youngblom,
Tyler Carlson, Seth Hanftner, Jon Koehn and Nick Kastenbauer all won
championships. Zan Van Vleet, Nick Muehlberg and Codie Lafromboise all
earned second place, Sam Lawrence earned fourth place and Thomas
Hischer took fifth place.
3. NEW LONDON SPICER WILDCATS
The Wildcats had a very good start to their season with a great showing
at the Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa "Jaguar" Tourney with 208.5 points and
eleven place winners to earn the championship. John Nething, Tom
Duscher, Chase Austvold Dylan Hanson and Tanner Tobkin all won
championships. Shawn Hatlestad and Logan Brink both earned second place
and Ben Henle and Jakob Stageberg both earned third places. Chris Pfau
and Kyle Cappelen both took fourth places. The Wildcats crushed two
foes as they topped Section 6AA foe Litchfield 63-4 and highly ranked
Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City 64-10
4. MILACA WOLVES
The Wolves had a good start to their season with their 4-0 showing at
the Waconia Duals, as they topped Marshall 65-9,Shakopee 48-21, Waconia
70-6 and Waconia 70-6. Marshall Ash, John Crain, Mike Keller, Jason
Rogalla, Joe Moscho, Jonah Gahm and Joey Curtis were all 4-0. Jim
Peterson, Jordan Warren, Jordy Rogalla, Clinton Sampson, Rip Baker and
Joe Hememick were all 3-1. The Wolves did drop a dual to Section 7AA
and West Central North Conference foe Mora 39-21. They crushed West
Central Conference foe Long Prairie-Grey Eagle 68-6. The Wolves topped
the field of teams at their dual meet invitational with three huge wins
over Cloquet 65-9, Sauk Rapids 50-18 and Elk River 61-15. Jonah Gahn,
Jason Rogalla, Mike Kelly, Jim Peterson, Marshall Ash, Jordy Rogalla,
Clint Sampson and Ripp Baker all 3-0.
5. DASSEL COKATO CHARGERS
The Chargers had a great start with their performance at the Saint
Michael-Albertville "Knights" Invitational with 182 points and ten
wrestlers placing in the top five to earn second place. Max Anderson,
Dakota Hanson and Brandon Fiedler all won championships and Sam
Porkonowski, Zach Peterson and Kyle Johnson all earned second place.
Tyler Dobmeier earned third place, Tyler Nelson earned fourth place and
Andrew Madson and Spence Broberg both took fifth place. The Chargers in
a big dual topped Wright County Conference foe Delano 43-30. They were
very impressive at the Prior Lake "Dan Ewards"Duals with huge wins over
Montgomery-Lonsdale/LeCenter 54-15, Richfield 60-5 and in the
championship they topped AAA Prior Lake 34-33 on Criteria (Most Falls).
Kyle Johnson, Tyler Irvin, Brandon Fiedler, Dakota Hanson, Zach
Peterson and Tyler Dobmeier were all 3-0 at the duals.
6. LITTLE FALLS FLYERS
The Flyers had a great showing at the Monticello "Magic" Duals with
four big wins to earn second place. They topped North Branch 35-30,
Sauk Rapids 39-33, Monticello 38-32 and Bloomington Kennedy 42-35.
Frank Wilczek was 4-0,Cody Bue was 3-0 and Dillan Kifer and Austin
Olson were both 3-1. They dropped a Central Lakes Conference dual to
St. Cloud Apollo 51-24 minus three starters. They split duals with
section 6AA foes with a win over Becker 42-29 and they dropped a close
dual to Big Lake 41-36. The Flyers topped Central Lakes Conference foe
Willmar 48-27. They had a very good showing at the Brainerd "Paul
Bunyan" Tournament where they earned 144 points to earned third place
in this sixteen team field of teams. They had six wrestlers place in
the top six with Cody Bue and Dilan Kifer winning championships and
Frank Wilczek earned third place. Bryant Bue earned fourth place, Joe
Tuholsky fourth place and Conar Swanson took sixth place.
7. FERGUS FALLS OTTERS
The Otters had a great start to their season with a huge win over
Central Lakes Conference foe Willmar 45-33. The Otters had an excellent
showing at the Wahpeton "Dan Unruh Memorial Invitational" with 159
points and seven wrestlers placing in the top four to earn third place.
Colton Thorson and Alex Hensch both won championships and Dan Revering,
Jesse Laguen and Abbot Aho all earned second place. Matt Laugen and
Tyler Giza both took fourth place for the Otters. The Otters topped
Central Lakes Conference rival Sauk Rapids 40-25. They had a great
showing at the West Central Area "Grant County" Tournament with 166.5
points and seven wrestlers placing in the top four to take second in
this twelve team field of teams. Dan Revering, Jesse Laugen and Colton
Thorson all won championships and Tyler Giza earned second place. Abbot
Aho and Alex Hensch both earned third place and Matt Laugen took fourth
place.
8. MONTICELLO MAGIC
The Magic had a strong performance in their season opener with a win
over Mississippi 8 foe Rogers 59-16. They also had an excellent showing
at their Magic invitational with a 4-1 dual meet mark to earn third
place in their twelve team field of teams. They defeated North Branch
49-24, Bloomington Kennedy 46-30, Sauk Rapids 48-21 and Annandale/Maple
Lake in the third place dual 45-25. They dropped their semifinal dual
to Little Falls 38-32. Jake Schmitz was 5-0, Tyler Mergen and Sabastian
Gardner were both 4-0. Randy Archer and Logan Draak were both 4-1 to
lead the way for the Magic. They dropped a big Mississippi 8 Conference
dual to Cambridge-Isanti 46-25. The Magic had an outstanding
performance at the Big Lake "Hornet" Invitational with 205.5 points and
eleven wrestlers placing in the top five to win the championship. Jake
Schmitz, Logan Draack, Randy Ascher and Sebastian Gardner all won
championships. Ryan Michaelis, Joe Jude, Eric Bourgeois and Tyler
Mergen all earned second place and Jacob Barker earned third place.
Logan Stiller and Nick Grumley both took fifth place.
9. DAWSON-BOYD/LQPV
They had a great start to their season as they topped three West
Central South Conference foes: Paynesville 37-31, Benson 54-12 and
Montevideo 60-12. Yet another great performance as they earned 128.5
points and seven wrestlers place in the top five to earned third place
at the West Central Area "Grant County" Tournament. Sam Hass won the
only championship and Dylan Croatt, John Weeding, and Jake Bothun all
earned second place. Josh Staab and Lane Mitchell both earned third
place and T. J. Fulton took fifth place.
10. STAPLES-MOTLEY CARDINALS
The Cardinals had a great start to their season as they earned second
place at the Melrose "Early Bird" Tourney with 198.5 points and eleven
wrestlers placing in the top five places. Taylor Benson, Jordan Benson,
Ryan Detloff and Chandler Trout all won championships and Blake Miller
and Sam Dubrowski both earned second place. Jordan Heldman, Dylan
Shequen and Blake Petrich all earned third place, Tyler Pogruba earned
fourth place and Brady Killan took fifth place. They won
Mid-State Conference duals as they topped Crosby-Ironton 67-8 and
Detroit Lakes 40-21. The Cardinals continue to have strong performances
as they topped two foes at the New York Mills Quadrangular with wins
over Class A Lean and Mean New York Mills 42-28 and Class A Lean and
Mean Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton 50-19. They did drop a dual to Class A
ranked No. 10 Greenbush-Middle River-Badger 38-26. Jordan Benson,
Chandler Trout, Dylan Shequen and Ryan Detloff were all 3-0 at the
quadrangular.
11. ANNANDALE/MAPLE LAKE LIGHTNING
The Lightning had a good start to their season with a 3-2 mark at the
Monticello "Magic" duals. They defeated Orono 55-18, St. Francis 31-30
and New Ulm 46-27. They dropped their semifinal dual to St. Cloud
Apollo 45-25 and their third place match to Monticello 45-25. Jesse
Puncochar and Chris Salveson were both 5-0 and Jordan Hanan was 4-1. In
Wright County Conference action they topped Waconia 48-30. The
Lightning had a great tourney with 154.5 points and nine wrestlers
placing in the top five to earn second place at the Maple Grove
"Grimson"Invitational. Jesse Puncochar won the only championship and
Crhis Salveson and Teddy Erickson both earned second place. Jordan
Hannan and Nick Anderson both earned third place and Tyler Pipo, Alex
Couette, Kevin Salveson and Derek Rachel all took fifth place.
12. LITCHFIELD DRAGONS
The Dragons earned 113.5 points and had eight place winners at their
invitational to earn sixth place. Austin Jones, Dan Cox and Shane
Gutorman all earned seconds and Tyler Jones, Kyle Ballard and Brian
Malepsy all earned fourth place. Derek Celender and Dylan Reiner both
took fifth place. The Dragons dropped a pair of duals to New
London-Spicer 63-4 and Atwater-Cosmos Grove City 59-6.
PRINCETON TIGERS
The Tigers had a strong start to their season with a big win over
Mississippi 8 foe Becker 44-24. They also had a strong showing at the
Faribault "Dick Shiels" Invitational with 145 points and seven
wrestlers placing in the top five to earn fourth place. Matt Zdrazil
won a championship and Adam Swenson earned second place. Levi Curry
earned third place and Louie Gevatz earned fourth place. Taking fifth
place for the Tigers were Jake Pramann, Luke Belair and Andrew Barthel.
They had a great showing at the Andover "Grimson" Invitational where
they earned 178 points and ten wrestlers placing in the top five. Louie
Servaty and Matt Zdrazil both won championships and Kevin Salgado, Zach
Peterson and Luke Beliar all earned second place. Adam Swenson and Josh
Linder both earned third place, Levi Cuny earned fourth place and Jake
Pramann and Billy McClay both took fifth place.
CHISAGO LAKES
The Wildcats had a good start to their season with a pair of wins over
Osceola 39-33 and over North Suburban Conference foe Fridley 54-18.
They did drop a dual to Wayzata 45-29. Quade Zupko, Riley Meyers,
Travis Kammerer, Clay Olson, jake Nase and Dylan Hoyt were all 3-0 at
the quadrangular. The Wildcats topped Blaine at their dual meet
invitational 36-33 before dropping duals to Grand Rapids 46-31 and Mora
49-13. Mark Sontug, Quade Zupko and Clay Olson were 3-0 at the Wildcat
duals. They earned fifty seven points at the Brainerd "Paul Bunyan"
Tournament with five wrestlers placing in the top six in this sixteen
team field of teams. Jake Nase earned third place, Dyland Hoyt earned
fourth place, Quade Zupko earned fifth place and Travis Kammerer and
Mark Sontag both took sixth place.
NORTH BRANCH
The Vikings had a tough start to their season as they dropped a dual to
North Suburban Conference foe St. Francis 57-15. They had a 1-4 mark at
the Monticello "Magic" duals with a win over New Ulm 36-34, they
dropped matches to Monticello 49-24, Little Falls 45-30 and Bloomington
Kennedy 40-30. Jake Kostik was unbeaten and John Morrison went 4-1 on
the day. The Vikings topped three foes at the Hinckley quadrangular
with wins over Hinckley 58-9, Cloquet 54-27 and Naskwauk Keewatin
57-24. Jake Pilz, Jake Kostik, Justin Bergerson, John Morrison, Stuart
Frink and Pat Mork were all 3-0 at the quad.
MAT RATS TOP CLASS A TEAMS
1. KERKHOVEN-MURDOCK-SUNBERG FIGHTING SAINTS
The Fighting Saints started their season with a very impressive
performance at the Melrose "Early Bird" Tournament by earning 248
points and twelve wrestlers placing in the top three places to win the
championship. Kurt Timmons, Kyle Baker, Jordan Rothers, Klinton Van
Heuveln, Aaron Doraska and Joel Bauman all won championships. Tyler
Carlson, Stuart Johnson, Trevor Mahlum and Matt Stassen all earned
second place and taking third place were Zach Carlson and Casey
Krieger. The Fighting Saints topped the field of eight teams at the
Willmar "Cardinal Classic" Tournament with 196 points and eleven
wrestlers placing in the top four. Aaron Doraska and Joel Bauman won
championships and Casey Krieger, Matt Stassin and Kyle Baker all earned
second place. Jordan Rothers, Klinton Van Heavlen, Tyler Carlson and
Klinton VanHeavlen all earned third place. Taking fourth place for the
Fighting Saints were Trevor Mahlum and Marvin Halleland.
2. ATWATER-COSMOS-GROVE CITY FALCONS
The Falcons have had a great start to their season with dual meet wins
over West Central Conference South foes; Montevideo 72-0, Morris
Area/CA 56-9 and section 5A and conference foe Paynesville 42-21.
In addition to that they topped section 5A foe Holdingford 46-20. They
had an outstanding performance as they earned 204 points and eleven
wrestlers place in the top five at the Litchfield "Dragon" Invitational
to win the championship. Ryan Larson, Mike Krame, Matt Lee and Logan
Peterson all won championships. Hayden Rouser and James Nelson earned
second place and Larry Bomstad and Robert Rasmusson both earned third
place. Lucas Damm and Dylan Nelson both took fifth place. The Falcons
split duals to AA foes they topped Litchfield 59-6 and dropped their
dual with No. 10 AA ranked New London-Spicer 54-10.
3. BOLD WARRIORS
The Warriors are off to a great start with huge wins over West Central
South Conference foes Minnewaska 48-21 and Yellow Medicine East 51-21.
YME win was really big for them, being they are a huge rival in section
3A too. They topped always tough Windom Area 44-17 before dropping a
dual to a tough Adrian team 43-12. The Warriors had a great performance
at the Brainerd "Paul Bunyan" Tourney with 128 points and seven
wrestlers placing in the top five in this sixteen team field of teams.
Kyle Schulte and Brent O'Halloran both won championships and Jacob
Revier and Brett Grund both earned second place. Cody Hatch, Tyler
Minkel and Logan Erickson all took fifth place.
4. YELLOW MEDICINE EAST STING
The Sting got off to a bit of slow start as they earned 165 points and
had ten wrestlers place in the top four to take third place at the
Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa "Jaguar" Tournament. Dylan Hoffman and Evan
Knudson both won championships and Derek Dyrdahl and Cody Sander both
earned second place. Levi Specht, Justin Tongen, Tyler Merritt, Justin
Stock and Mason Hegna all earned third place and Tim Savig took fourth
place. They split a pair of West Central South Conference duals with a
win over Minnewaska 39-32 and they lost to BOLD 51-21. They have been
without two of their starters thus far. The Sting had a good showing at
the Willmar "Cardinal Classic" Tournament with 153.5 points and eleven
wrestlers placing in the top five. Evan Knudson won their only
championship and Justin Tongen and Mason Hegna both earned second
place. Ethan Ator earned third place and Levi Specht, Aaron Lalim and
Cody Sander all earned fourth place. Taking fifth place for the Sting
were Justin Stock, Dustin Baker, Derek Dyrdahl and Tim Savig.
5. PAYNESVILLE BULLDOGS
The Bulldogs topped Benson in a West Central South Conference dual and
dropped two West Central Conference duals to Dawson-Boyd/LQPV 37-31 and
Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City 42-21. The Bulldogs are missing three of
their regular wrestlers thus far this season. They topped section 5A
rival Howard Lake/Waverly/Winsted 45-17. The Bulldogs earned second
place at the Foley "Falcon" Duals with wins over Becker 68-4 and
Royalton 43-27. They did drop the championship to No. 2AA ranked Foley
44-18.
6. EDEN VALLEY WATKINS EAGLES
The Eagles have had some very good showings thus far, at the
Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa "Jaguar" Tournament they earned 177 points and
had ten wrestlers place in the top four. Joe Holdvogt and Shawn Mattsen
both won championships and Jacob Forcier, Jeff Dockendorf, Blaine
Meierhofer and Tyler Magedanz all earned second place. Jacob Asfeld
earned third place and Cain Renner, Zach Blonigen and Brandon Walz all
took fourth place. The Eagles earned fourth place at the Litchfield
"Dragons" Invitational with 134 points and eight wrestlers placing in
the top five. Joe Holdvogt and Jeff Dockendorf both won championships
and Cain Renner earned second place. Mike Downham earned third place
and Jaron Faber and Blaine Meierhofer both earned fourth place. Jacob
Forcier and Shawn Mattson both took fifth place. The Eagles continue to
have impressive showings as they earned 189.5 points and had ten
wrestlers place in the top five to earn second place at the Willmar
"Cardinal Classic" Tourney. Blaine Meierhofer, Tyler Magendan and Joe
Holdvogt all won championships with great performances. Jeff
Dockendorf, Jaron Faber, Cain Renner and Mike Dowham all earned second
place, Jake Forcier earned third place, Shawn Mattson earned fourth
place and Eric Hesse took fifth place.
7. NEW YORK MILLS EAGLES
The Eagles had a strong showing at the Wahpeton Dan Unruh Memorial
Invitational with 150 points and seven wrestlers placing in the top
four of this fourteen team tourney to earned third place. Jordan and
Shane Novak both won championships and Jared Norton earned second
place. Seth Hoffland and Landyn Saewert both earned third place and
Tommy Selander and Maison Roberts both took fifth place. The Eagles had
a 1-2 mark at their quadrangular as they topped Lean and Mean
Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton 38-37 and the dropped duals to Class A ranked
No. 10 Greenbush-Middle River/Badger 54-18 and to AA Lean and Mean
Staples-Motley 42-28. Tommy Selander and Jordan Novak were both 3-0 at
the quad.
8. BROWERVILLE/EAGLE VALLEY BRONCOS
The Broncos started their season with a good performance at the
Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa "Jaguar" Tournament with 104 points and six
wrestlers placing in the top four to earn fourth place. Travis Borchert
won their only championship, Randy Shamp and Lucas Kalina both earned
second places. Earning third places were Nate Becker and Jordan
Wingerter and taking fourth place was Tyler Kent. They split a pair of
duals as they topped Royalton 45-31 and dropped a dual to section 5A
foe Osakis 42-36. The Broncos earned 107 points at West Central Area
"Grant County" Invitational with five place winners including one
championship by Travis Borchert. Lucas Kalina earned second place,
Preston Irsfeld earned third place, Randy Shamp earned fourth place and
Austin Butler took fifth place.
9. KIMBALL CUBS
The Cubs had a great showing at the Rush City "Tiger" Invitational
where they scored 243 points and had thirteen wrestlers place in the
top five. They won the championship as seven Cubs won championships;
Marcus Hamer, Tyler Kuechle, Jordan Joseph, Caramen Hansen, Mitch
Pramann, Alex Thurber and Travis Schiefelbein. David Joseph and Tanner
Mills earned second place and Quentin Bryce earned third place. Taking
fifth place were Jeremiah Kellen, Justin Hahn and Cody Machereth. The
Cubs topped Renville County West 57-18 and they
defeated AA Lean and Mean Big Lake 54-25.
10. MILLE LACS RAIDERS
The Raiders had a good start to their season with a strong showing at
the Rush City "Tiger" Tournament with 193 points and ten wrestlers
placing in the top five place. Mark Francour and Brad Brown won
championships and Bobby Kulhanek, Gabe Tramm, Nick Borchert, Cody
Whitney, Ryan Jones and Chase Niesen all earned second place. Earning
third place was Dylan Yuring and taking fifth place was Matt Petty. The
Raiders earned 119.5 points and they had five wrestlers place in the
top four to earn fifth place in this twelve team field of teams. Bobby
Kulhanek won their only championship and Ryan Jones earned third place.
Nick Borchert, Cody Whitney and Chase Niesen all earned fourth place.
11. ROYALTON ROYALS
The Royals had a great start to their season with a 2-1 mark at the
Foley "Falcon" duals with big wins over Rocori 41-30 and the Junior
Varsity crew 43-19. Andy Poster, Mitch Lange, Odin Guerard and
Ryan Brady were all 3-0 on the day. They split a pair of duals with old
Prairie Conference foes, they topped Osakis 44-25 and they lost to
Browerville/Eagle Valley 45-31. The Royals had a good showing at the
Brainerd "Paul Bunyan" Tournament as they earned ninety one points and
had five wrestlers place in the top six in this sixteen team field of
teams. Ryan Brady earned third place, Dan Borash and Andrew Plumski
both earned fourth place and Andy Poster and Odin Guerard both took
sixth place.
12. PIERZ PIONEERS
The Pioneers topped Section 7A foe Crosby-Ironton 48-26 for a strong
start to their season. They earned fifth place at the Foley "Falcon"
Duals with a pair of wins over Cloquet 56-12 and Becker 42-30. They
dropped their first dual to AAA Rocori by criteria 38-37. Brad Meyer,
Clint Poster, Sean Huls, Nathan Tomala, Josh Lanners, Chris Ortman and
Brett Brausen were all 3-0 at the Falcon duals. The Pioneers had a very
good showing at the Brainerd "Paul Bunyan" Tournament with 110 points
and five wrestlers placing in the top five to earn eighth place in a
field of sixteen teams. Clint Poster and Sean Huls both earned second
place and Josh Lanners and John Omann both earned fourth place and
Chris Ortman took fifth place.
BORDER WEST
The Buccaneers got off to a slow start to their season with 107.5
points and five place winners at the Wahpeton Dan Unruh Memorial
Invitational to earn seventh place. Mitch Andrews and Will McCarthy
both won championships and Austin Gray earned fourth place. Wylie
Pullis and Billy Connelly both took sixth place. The Buccaneers topped
Section 6A rival West Central Area 47-31. They earned 118.5 points and
had five wrestlers place in the top five at the West Central Area
"Grant County" Tournament. Mitch Andrews won their only championship,
Will McCarthy earned second place, Charlie Maanum and Wylie Pullis both
earned fourth place and Kenny Custard took fifth place.
MINNEWASKA LAKERS
The Lakers had a slow start to their season as they dropped two West
Central South Conference duals to BOLD 48-21 and Yellow Medicine East
51-21. The Lakers had a good showing at the Willmar "Cardinal Classic"
Tournament with 129 points and eight wrestlers placing in the top five
to earn fifth place. They were led by Jacob Braaten's championship and
Grant Winter and Micah Klemme both earned second place. Anderson Clare
and Brandon Manderschied both earned third place, Cam Schaffer and
Hunter Wolshlager both earned fourth place and Justin Roggonkamp took
fifth place.
WADENA DEER CREEK WOLVERINES
The Wolverines had a good start to their season with their performance
at their Wolverine Invitational where they earned 138.5 points and had
ten wrestlers place in the top five. Mitch Steffens and Jacob Wegscheid
both earned second place and Jared Wegscheid and Jordan Rentz both
earned third place. Zack Bernu and Dylan Anderson both earned fourth
place and Tony Reurink, Sam Waln and Jacob Ludovissie all took fifth
place. The Wolverines earned third place at the Park Rapids "Panther"
Duals as they topped host Park Rapids 43-34 and state ranked Lisbon, ND
42-24. They dropped a dual to the No. 2 Nationally ranked Apple Valley
56-6. Jordan Rentz was the only wrestler to go 3-0 for the Wolverines.
