MAT RATS TOP CLASS AA TEAMS
1. FOLEY FALCONS
The Falcons crushed West Central North Conference foes with huge wins
over Sauk Centre 65-4, Long Prairie Grey Eagle 71-6 and Melrose 57-12
and they topped Section 6AA foe Sartell 53-18. They topped the field of
teams at the Dassel Cokato with big wins over Section 6AA foes Dassel
Cokato 51-15 and Litchfield 66-3 and a shut out win over AAA Shakopee
76-0. They had many wrestlers that were 3-0 including: Tyler Jensen,
Mitch Dunlap, Matt Dunlap, Sam Keeler, Will Sustercich, Mark Gehling,
Brandon Seppelt, Taylor Lewandowski, Justin Bowland, Matt Beehler and
Tyler Lawondowski. The Falcons had a solid performance at the Rumble on
Red with 159.5 points to earn third place in this fifty-eight team
field of teams. Tyler Lewandowski earned second place with a 4-1 mark,
Justin Bowland earned third place going 5-2, Brandon Seppelt earned
fifth place with a 4-2 mark, Taylor Lewandowski earned fifth place with
a 5-2 mark and Keith Thell earned seventh place with a 5-2 mark.
Several others had good showings; Tyler Jenson 3-2, Mitch Dunlap 3-2,
Sam Keeler 3-2, Will Sustercich 2-2, Mark Gehling 2-2, and Matt Beehler
2-2. Special note; Brandon Seppelt won his 150th career match at the
Rumble on Red; Congratulations to Brandon! The Falcons topped their
West Central Conference North rival Milaca in front of 1,800 people
37-14. They crushed their foes at the Buffalo duals with wins over
Section 6AA foe Big Lake 57-6, Mille Lacs 62-9 and East Ridge 63-0.
Keith Thell, Sam Keeler, Will Sustercich, Mark Gehling, Zach Jackson,
Tyler Lawandowski and Jordan Bialke were 3-0 in the quad.
2. MORA MUSTANGS
The Mustangs have been competing with many of their wrestlers not
competing because of injuries. They topped Royalton 53-15 and West
Central North Conference foe Albany 52-15. They topped West Central
North Conference foe Melrose 62-6 and AAA foe St. Cloud Tech 49-21. The
Mustangs started their 2010 portion of their schedule with three big
wins at their quadrangular. They topped two Section 7AAA foes North
Branch 59-16 and Rush City/Braham 63-12 and a big win over West Central
North Conference foe Sauk Centre 56-18. They had eight wrestlers that
were 3-0 at the quad including Dusty Thorhauer, Alex Dahms, Brent
Schroeder, Andrew Youngblom, Seth Sanftner, Blake Menard, Tyler and
Derek Carlson. The Mustangs topped the field of teams at their
invitational with 224.5 points and eleven place winnings in the top
five. Seth Sanftner, Andrew Youngblom, Blake Menard, Tyler Carlson and
Derek Carlson all won championships. Dusty Thorhauer and Ken
Kustenbauer both earned second place, Alex Dahms and Zane VanVleet both
earned third place, Brandon Lucking earned fourth place and Quade Van
Vleet took fifth place.
3. DASSEL COKATO CHARGERS
The Chargers topped Section 6AA foe Albany 42-26 and Lean and Mean
Class A Royalton 53-15. They topped Wright County Conference and
Section 6AA foe Litchfield 47-27 and AAA Rocori 51-9. The Chargers had
two big wins at their dual meet invitational with 61-15 mark over
Section 6AA foe Becker and Section 6AA rival New London-Spicer 35-34.
Before they dropped a dual to Section 6AA rival and No. 2AA ranked
Foley 51-15. Max Anderson, Brandon Fiedler and Sam Pokornowski were all
3-0. The Chargers had a great showing at the Buffalo duals with four
big wins over section 6AA foe Big Lake 54-15, AAA Buffalo 55-13, AAA
Alexandria 52-13 and Mille Lacs 41-24. Max Anderson, Brandon Fiedler,
Kyle Johnson, Zack Peterson, Tyler Irvin, Dakota Hanson and Sam
Pokornowski were all 4-0 and Tyler Dobmeier, Dan Wanha and Grant
Peterson were all 3-1 at Buffalo.
4. NEW LONDON SPICER WILDCATS
The Wildcats topped West Central North Conference foe and No. 11 AA
Milaca 35-23, No. 10 AAA St. Cloud Apollo 44-21 and Lean and Mean Class
Paynesville 41-21. They had a good showing at the Dassel Cokato duals
with two big wins over AAA Shakopee 52-18 and Section 6AA rival Becker
69-11. They dropped a very close dual to Section 6AA rival and No. 9AA
ranked Dassel Cokato 35-34. Tanner Tobkin, Cody Jakobson, Treyton
Austvold, Dylan Hanson and John Nething were all 3-0. The Wildcats had
a great showing at the Rumble on Red with 122.5 points to earn ninth
place in this fifty eight teams field of teams. John Nething won the
championship as he went 6-0, Shawn Hatlestad earned third place with a
5-1 mark. Several others had great showings including: Dylan Hanson was
4-2, Tom Duscher was 3-2 and Logan Brink was 3-2. Going 2-2 were Chase
Austvold, Tanner Tobkin, Ben Henle and Austin Holden. The Wildcats
crushed another West Central North Conference foe Albany 61-5. They
topped the field of teams at the Barrel O'Fun Tourney at Perham with
228.5 points and twelve wrestlers placing in the three. Dylan Hanson,
Shawn Hatlestad, John Nething and Tom Duscher won championships. Ben
Henle, Logan Brink, Chase Austvold and Tanner Tobkin all earned second
place and Kyle Cappelen, Zach Borka, Cody Haugen and Treyton Austvold
all earned third place.
5. MILACA WOLVES
The Wolves topped No. 10 AAA St. Cloud Apollo 40-16 and Class A Lean
and Mean Pierz 43-21. They dropped a dual to No. 10AA New London-Spicer
35-23. They dropped a West Central North Conference dual in front of
1,800 people to their rival Foley 37-14. The Wolves turned around the
next day to crush three foes at the Farmington duals with huge wins
over AAA Lakeville North 75-0, Monticello 39-24 and AAA Northfield
48-18 to earn the championship. Joe Moscho, Jonah Gahn, Jason Rogallo,
Mike Kelley, Clinton Sampson, Ripp Baker, Marshal Ash and Marshall Hopp
were all 3-0 at the Farmington duals.
6. LITTLE FALLS FLYERS
The Flyers topped Central Lakes Conference rival Fergus Falls 39-31.
They had a great tourney at Cass Lake with 173.5 points to earn third
place at the Big Bear tourney. They had six wrestlers place in this
thirty-two field of teams. Frank Wilczek won their lone championship,
Dillon Kifer and Cody Bue each earned second place. Brandon Hiamenz and
Derik Jendro both earned third place and Conor Swenson took sixth
place. They topped three foes at the quadrangular with wins over
Section 6AA foe Litchfield 34-32, rival Pierz 47-26 and Parkers Prairie
63-9. Frank Wilczek, Dillon Kifer, Bryant Bue, Zack Clark and Cody Bue
were all 3-0 at the quad.
7. FERGUS FALLS OTTERS
After the Otters dropped their Central Lakes Conference to rival Little
Falls 39-31 they crushed Conference foe Alexandria 66-9. They topped
the third two team field of teams with 204.5 points to claim the
championship at the Big Bear tourney. Dan Revering and Colton Thorson
both won championships and Tyler Giza, Abbot Aho and Alex Hensch all
earned third place. Jesse Laugen and Tyler Garding both earned fourth
place and Matt Laugen took sixth place. The Otters had a huge win over
Central Lakes Conference rival Brainerd 37-28.
8. DAWSON-BOYD/LQPV
They topped West Central South Conference foe Minnewaska 46-23 and
Class A Lean and Mean Border West 37-33. They dropped a huge West
Central South Conference dual to Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City 38-36. They
topped former Camden Conference foe Tracy-Milroy-Balaton 55-19. They
did drop duals to No. 12 AA ranked Wabasso/RRC 32-27, to No. 4A
Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg 41-26 and No. 5A Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City
38-36. They topped the field at the LQPV invitational with 236 Points
and thirteen wrestlers placing in the top four. John Weeding, Dylan
Croatt, Jake Bothun and Christian Olson all won championships. Sam Haas
and Josh Staab both earned second place and earning third place were
Joe Weeding and Codie Weeding. Taking fourth place were Lee Justin, T.
J. Fulton, Keith Abraham and J. D. Struxness. They earned second place
with 193.5 points and eight place winners in the top four at the Dave
Roder Memorial tourney in Montevideo. John Weeding, Ryan Swenson and
Sam Haas won championships and Codie Weeding and Christian Olson both
earned second place. Dylan Croat and Joe Weeding both earned third
place and Josh Staab took fourth place.
9. MONTICELLO MAGIC
The Magic dropped a Mississippi 8 Conference dual to rival Saint
Michael-Albertville43-18. They earned third place at the Farmington
duals with big wins over Goodhue 48-24 in the quarter finals and in the
third place match they topped Lean and Mean Class Paynesville 45-19.
The Magic dropped their semifinal dual to No. 10AA ranked Milaca 39-24.
Eric Bourgeois, Logan Draack, Randy Ascher and Tyler Mergen were all
3-0 at the Farmington tourney.
10. STAPLES-MOTLEY CARDINALS
The Cardinals earned second place with 168 points at the Maple River
“Eagle” Invitational with ten wrestlers placing in the top four. Brand
Flickinger, Chandler Trout and Dylan Shequen all won championships and
Jordan Bendson, Blake Petrich and Ryan Detloff all earned second place.
Earning third place Sam Duberowski and Jordan Heldman and taking fourth
were Brady Killan and David DeYonge. The Cardinals topped two Mid-State
conference foes; Park Rapids 38-27 and Pequot Lakes/Pine River/Backus
53-24. They topped the field of teams at the Pine to Prairie tourney
hosted by Fertile with 229 points and eleven wrestlers placing in the
top four. Taylor Bendson, Jordan Bendson and Dylan Sheqen all won
championships. Jordan Heldman, Blake Miller, Sam Duberowski and Ryan
Detloff all earned second place, Brandon Flickinger earned third place
and Brent Lisson and David DeYonge both took fourth place.
11. ANNANDALE/MAPLE LAKE LIGHTNING
The Lightning topped two Wright County Conference foes Delano 36-33 and
Glencoe/Silver Lake/LP 60-12. They dropped a dual to Lean and Mean
Class A Kimball 37-22. The Lightning have been competing without some
of their starters due to injuries. They topped Wright County Conference
foe a and rival Section 6AA foe Litchfield 37-31. The Cardinals had a
great showing at the Mora Mustang invitational with 149 points and
eight wrestlers placing in the top five to earn second place. Jordan
Janan, Alex Couette and Jesse Puncochar all won championships and Derek
Rachel and Kevin Salveson both earned second place. Tyler Pipo earned
fourth place and Teddy Erickson took fifth place at the Mora tourney.
12. PRINCETON TIGERS
The Tigers had a huge win over Mississippi 8 Conference foe Big Lake
34-33. They topped Mississippi 8 Conference foe Zimmerman 35-30 and
Meadow Creek 40-39 and AAA Andover 52-16. They had a great showing at
the Blue Jackets duals in Hibbing as they went three and one with huge
wins over Section 7AA foes Hibbing 42-22, Chisago Lakes 31-30 and
Virginia 60-12. Cory Messer, Louie Servaty and Karl Eichinger were all
4-0 and Kevin Salgado, Luke Belair , Levi Cuny, Adam Swenson 3-1 at the
Hibbing Duals.
LITCHFIELD DRAGONS
The Dragons topped Wright County Conference foe Orono 48-27 and they
did drop one Wright County Conference dual to Dassel Cokato 47-27 and
to former Section 6AA foe Rocori 34-35. The Dragons went 1-2 at the
Dassel Cokato duals with a win over 6AA foe Becker 45-27. They dropped
duals to No. 2AA ranked Foley 66-3 and AAA Shakopee 42-27. Dan Cox was
the lone Dragon that was 3-0 at the Dassel Duals. They dropped a Wright
County Conference dual to Section 6AA rival Annandale/Maple Lake 37-31.
The Dragons went 2-1 at the Little Falls quadrangular with wins over
Class A Lean and Mean Pierz 36-33 and Parkers Prairie 63-9. They
dropped a very close dual to AA ranked Little Falls 34-32. Brain
Malepsy, Dan Cox, Kody Kalkbrenner and Shane Gutormson were all 3-0 at
the quad.
BIG LAKE HORNETS
The Hornets dropped a dual to Mississippi 8 Conference foe Princeton 34-33.
CHISAGO LAKES WILDCATS
The Wildcats topped North Suburban Conference foe Robbinsdale Cooper
48-21. They earned the championship at their first annual Wildcat
tourney with 189 points and eleven wrestlers placing in the top five.
Quade Zupko, Jake Nase and Dylan Hoyt all won championships and Clay
Olson, Travis Kammerer, Mark Sontag and Riley Meyers all earned second
place. Cody Fugleberg, Bobby Sontag, Eric Brown and Andrew Miron all
took fifth place. They were 1-3 at the Hibbing duals with a win over
Section 7AA foe Nashwalk-Keewatin 55-22 and they dropped two close
duals also to Section 7AA foes Hibbing 35-28 and Princeton 31-30 and in
their final dual they dropped a dual to AAA ranked Centennial 47-15.
Wade Zupke, Travis Kammerer and Clay Olson were all 4-0.
NORTH BRANCH VIKINGS
The Vikings topped North Suburban Conference foe Fridley 63-12. The
Vikings topped Section 7AAA foe Rush City/Braham 60-18 and Class A Sauk
Centre 42-24. They dropped a dual to No. 6AA Mora and Section 7AA rival
Mora 59-16. They dropped a close dual to North Suburban Conference foe
Totino-Grace 37-31. The Vikings earned second place with 186.5 points
at the "Battle of the Titans" Tourney held at Tartan High School. They
had eleven wrestlers place in the top five to finish just a half of
point out of first place. John Morrison, Justin Bergerson and Patrick
Mork all won championships and Jake Kostik earned second place. Reid
Johnson, Jimmy Juntnen and Stuart Frink all earned third place and
Dalton Horak earned fourth place. Taking fifth place for the Vikings
were Andy Freel, Ervin Siker and Jake Pilz.
MAT RATS TOP CLASS A TEAMS
1. ATWATER-COSMOS-GROVE CITY FALCONS
The Falcons topped a pair of Section 5A rivals with big wins over Eden
Valley-Watkins 35-23 and Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa 49-18. They had a pair
of big wins over West Central South Conference foes Dawson-Boyd/LQPV
38-36 and Minnewaska 51-18. They had a good showing at the Canby duals
with huge wins over Canby 58-12 and Class A Lean and Mean United South
Central 43-19 and they dropped a dual to No. 8AA Adrian 41-23. Hayden
Rouser, Matt Lee, Larry Bomsted and Mike Kraemer were all 3-0 at the
Canby Duals. The Falcons had a great showing as they started 2010 off
as they ended 2009 with 241 points and twelve place winners to win the
Jaguar tourney at Belgrade. Jesse Whitcomb, Hayden Rouser, Larry
Bomsted, Michael Kramer, Ryan Larson and Dylan Nelson all won
championships. Matt Meyer and James Nelson both earned second place and
Logan Peterson earned third place. Taking fourth place were Lee
Whitcomb and Colin Kraginbring. They had a great performance with their
win over No. 11 ranked BOLD 36-24.
2. KERKHOVEN-MURDOCK-SUNBERG FIGHTING SAINTS
The Fighting Saints continue to turn in great performances as they
topped Camden Conference foes Tracy-Milroy-Balaton 50-16 and Ortonville
70-3. They topped AA Lean and Mean Dawson-Boyd/LQPV 41-26 and Lean and
Mean Class Border West 41-31. The Fighting Saints had a great tourney
showing as they earned 102 points at the Rumble of Red for fifteenth
place in a field of fifty eight teams. Joel Bauman led the way as he
earned a third place with a 6-1 mark, Jordan Rothers earned sixth place
with a 5-3 mark, Kurt Timmons earned eight place with a 3-3 mark. They
had five wrestlers with 2-2 marks including: Klinton VanHeuveln, Kyle
Baker, Tyler Carlson, Aaron Doraska and Trevor Mahlum. The Fighting
Saints earned 202 points and had eleven wrestlers in the top four to
earn second place at the Jaguar Invitational at Belgrade. Kurt Timmons,
Tyler Carlson and Matt Stassen all won championships and Zach Carlson,
Jordan Rothers, Trevor Mahlum and Klinton VanHeuveln all earned second
place. Aaron Doraska and Casey Krieger both earned third place and Kyle
Baker and Stuart Johnson both took fourth place.
3. BOLD WARRIORS
The Warriors topped West Central South Conference foes Benson 40-23 and
Montevideo 48-12. They crushed their foes at the Bertha Hewitt
quadrangular with wins over host Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale 49-21, Osakis
54-18 and Pequot Lake/Pine River/Backus 49-13. Austin Guetter, Alex
Hatch, Kyle Schulte, Zach Revier, Alex Steffel and Cody Hatch were all
3-0 at the quad. The Warriors dropped a dual to the No. 5A ranked
Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City 36-24 in a very good dual.
4. PAYNESVILLE BULLDOGS
The Bulldogs had a huge win over Section 5A Lean and Mean Eden
Valley-Watkins 34-33. They dropped duals to No. 10 AA New London-Spicer
41-21 and No. 10 AAA St. Cloud Apollo 44-21. They earned fourth place
at the Farmington "Tiger" Duals with a win over Chatfield 45-18. They
dropped their semifinal dual to AAA Northfield 32-30 and the third
place match to Lean and Mean Monticello 45-19. Hayden Spaeth, Matt Doom
and Andrew Moser all were 3-0 at the Tiger Duals.
5. EDEN VALLEY WATKINS EAGLES
The Eagles topped Section 5A foes Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa 39-18,
Browerville/Eagle Valley 45-24 and Howard Lake/Waverly/Winsted 57-9.
They dropped a pair of very close duals to Section 5A foes No. 5A
ranked Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City 35-23 and Lean and Mean Class
Paynesville 34-33. The topped Lean and Mean and Central Minnesota
Conference foe Royalton 36-32. With just nine wrestlers they earned the
championship at the Norwood Young America Invitational with 170.5
points. Shawn Mattson, Jeff Dockendorf and Joe Holdvogt all won
championships, Blaine Meierhoffer, Jaron Faber, Mike Downham, Jake
Forcier and Tyler Magadanz all earned second place. Mitch Asfeld earned
third place as all the Eagle wrestlers placed in the top three.
6. KIMBALL CUBS
The Cubs topped Section 5A foes Browerville/Eagle Valley 50-24 and
Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa 49-18. They also topped AA foes Annandale/Maple
Lake 37-22 and Glencoe/Silver Lake/LP 78-0. The Cubs topped another
Central Minnesota Conference foe Holdingford 40-18. They dominated the
Royals Invitational at Royalton with 253 points and twelve placing in
the top four. Marcus Hamer, Jordan Joseph, Caramen Hanson, Travis
Schiefelbein, David Joseph and Alex Thurber all won championships.
Tyler Kuechle earned second place. Quentin Bryce and Cody Machereth
both earned third place and Austin Schiefelbein and Mitch Prammann both
took fourth place.
7. YELLOW MEDICINE EAST STING
The Sting topped MACCRAY 62-15 and Redwood Valley 47-18 and they
dropped a dual to Wabasso/RRC 59-11. They topped Canby 41-24 at the
Border Battle in Canby, before dropping duals to No. 8AA Adrian 49-15
and Lean and Mean United South Central 40-36. Evan Knutson, Levi Specht
and Justin Tongen were all 3-0 at Canby.
8. PIERZ PIONEERS
The Pioneers topped Long Prairie-Grey Eagle 52-24 and in a couple of
good duals they dropped duals to No. 11 AA Milaca 43-21 and No. 10 AAA
St. Cloud Apollo 57-16. They topped Parkers Prairie 51-18 and dropped
duals to AA foes Litchfield 36-33 and Lean and Mean AA Little Falls
47-26 at the Little Falls quadrangular. Chris Ortman and Clint Poster
were both 3-0 and Clint won his 150th Career match. Congratulations
Clint!
9. ROYALTON ROYALS
The Royals topped Section 7A foe Ogilvie 59-18 and Central Minnesota
Conference foe Holdingford 41-31. They dropped duals to No. 6AA Mora
52-15 and No. 9AA Dassel Cokato 53-15. The Royals dropped a Central
Minnesota Conference dual to Eden Valley-Watkins 36-32. They had a good
showing at their invitational with 185.5 points and eleven place
winners to earn second place. Mitch Lange, Andrew Plumski and Kellen
Frank won championships and Andy Poster, Odi Guerard and Kyle Wentland
all earned second place. Tom Averill and Ryan Brady both earned third
place, Dan Moulzolf and Cody Boody bother earned fourth place and Kyle
Billmeyer took fifth place.
10. NEW YORK MILLS EAGLES
The Eagles topped Park Rapids 39-36 and Section 6A foes Parkers Prairie
51-27 and Pelican Rapids 61-18. They had a great showing at the Big
Bear Tourney in Cass Lake where they earned 158 points to take fifth
place in this field of thirty-two teams. Shane Novak and Landyn Saewert
both earned second place, Jordan Novak earned third place and Tommy
Selander and Jarrod Norton both earned fourth place. Maison Roberts
earned eighth place and having great showings were Seth Hoffland with a
3-2 mark and Michael Meyers with a 3-2 mark. The Eagles dropped a dual
to No. 3A ranked Frazee 51-18. They topped Park Region Conference rival
Osakis 41-24. The Eagles had a strong showing at the Barrel O'Fun
tourney hosted by Perham. They earned third place with 167 points with
nine wrestlers placing in the top three. Shane Novak won their only
championship and Tommy Selander, Michael Meyer, Jordan Novak and Landyn
Saewert all earned second place. Peter Stark, Jarrod Norton and Josh
Bernu all earned third place.
11. BORDER WEST BUCCANEERS
The Buccaneers topped AAA Bemidji 63-9 and Mahnomen-Waubun 57-21 and
dropped a dual to No. 3A Frazee 38-25. Mitch Andrews, Will McCarthy,
Austin Rinke and Billy Connelly were 3-0. They earned fourth place with
172 points and nine place winners in the top five at the Roder Memorial
Tourney in Montevideo. Will McCarthy and Mitch Andrews won
championships and Billy Connelly and Austin Rinke both earned second
place. Austin Gray and Cameron Sykora both earned fourth place and
Kenny Custard and Charlie Maanum both took fifth place. The Buccaneers
crushed Section 6A rival Wadena-Deer Creek 40-19. The Buccaneers are
slowing getting some of their wrestlers back into their lineup as they
earned second place at the Braves Classic Tourney hosted by Benson.
They earned 188 points and ten wrestlers placing in the top four
including championships by Mitch Andrews, Will McCarthy, Austin Grey
and Taylor McCalp. Cameron Sykora, Zach Fridgen and Billy Connelly
earned third place. Ryan Murphy and Garrett Behrens both took fourth
place.
12. OSAKIS SILVERSTREAKS
The Silverstreaks topped Park Region Conference foes United North
Central 54-23, Parkers Prairie 40-39 and Bertha Hewitt/Verndale 42-24.
They also topped AA foe Pequot Lakes/Pine River/Backus 36-35. They
dropped duals to Section 5A foe Holdingford 46-21 and No. 11A BOLD
54-18. The Silverstreaks topped Park Region Conference rival Ottertail
Central 37-31. They dropped a Park Region Conference dual to Lean and
Mean New York Mills 41-24.
MILLE LACS RAIDERS
The Raiders topped three AAA teams at the Osseo quadrangular with wins
over Spring Lake Park 49-29, Andover 57-22 and Osseo 54-18. Nik
Borchert, Cody Whitney, Mark Francour, Ryan Jones and Bobby Kulhanek
were all 3-0 at the Osseo quad. They were 2-2 at the Bison Duals hosted

were beaten by AA No. 9 ranked Dassel Cokato 41-23 and AA No. 2 Foley
62-9.
MAT RATS TOP CLASS AAA TEAMS
1. SAINT MICHEAL-ALBERTVILLE KNIGHTS
The Knights topped Mississippi 8 Conference foe Monticello 43-18. They
had a good tourney where they earned 128 points for seventh place in a
field of thirty five teams at the Minnesota Christmas tourney. The
Knights had eight place winners including; Ben Horn and Parker Betts
both earning fourth place and Kraig Schumm and Ryan Kessler both earned
fifth place. Jake Lillie earned third sixth place and taking seventh
place were Lincoln Mallinger, Kyle Salonek and Shaun Little. They had a
very good tourney at The Clash hosted by Rochester as they topped
LaQuinta, California 54-21, Sturgis, South Dakota 30-26,
Plainview-Elgin-Milleview 40-19, Mt. Carmel of Ilinois 31-25 and Carl
Sandberg of Illinois 25-24. Jake Lillie, Jordan Campa, Kraig Schumm,
Ryan Kessler were all 6-0 and Shawn Little and Parker Betts were both
4-2.
2. CAMBRIDGE BLUE JACKETS
The Blue Jackets topped Mississippi 8 Conference foe Buffalo 65-3. They
earned tenth place the Minnesota Christmas tourney with 101 points and
six place winners. Derek Swanson earned fourth place, Tyler Tischer
fifth place, Scott Gifford, Clayton Jennisen and Adam Kelling all
earned sixth place and Travis Holt took eighth place. The Blue Jackets
had a very good showing at the Rumble on Red tourney a field of 58
Teams. They earned sixth place with 133 points with three place winners
including: Clayton Jennissen earned fourth place with a 4-2 mark, Derek
Swanson earned sixth place with a 3-3 mark and Tyler Tischer earned
seventh place with a 5-2 mark. Others that made very good showings were
Lincoln Chumly 3-2, Adam Kelling 3-2, Ty Torgerson 3-3, David Kent 2-2,
Travis Holt 2-2, Mark Volker 2-2 and Seth Woodiwiss 2-2. The Blue
Jackets topped Mississippi 8 Conference foe Rogers 65-12, AA ranked
Totino-Grace 58-8 and Bemidji 51-22. Sherwood Kinnis and Mark Volker
were the only 3-0 wrestlers being they used several wrestlers at the
this quad. They topped the field at their invitational with 199.5
points and twelve place winners in the top five including a
championship by Clayton Jennissen. Cole Bakke, James Kelling, Travis
Holf and Seth Woodwiss all earned second place, earning third place
were Sherwood McKinnis and Mark Volker. Ty Torgerson and Cody Reilly
both earned fourth place and Landon Chumley took fifth place.
3. ST. CLOUD APOLLO EAGLES
The Eagles are taking on a little more competition this season; they
had a couple of dual wins over Class A Lean and Mean teams Pierz 57-16
and Paynesville 44-21. They dropped duals to No. 10 AA New
London-Spicer 42-22 and Milaca 40-16. A special note against
Paynesville Mitch Bengston won his 100th Career match. The Eagles had a
very good showing at the Rumble of Red tourney where they earned 107
points to take thirteenth place in this huge field of fifty eight
teams. Mitch Bengston won the championship defeated a nationally ranked
and defending AA state champion. Nam Nyugen earned fourth place with a
5-2 mark, Nam had a great tourney. Nolan Rial, Chris Rocheleau and
Clayton Athman all had 3-2 marks and Sam Koetter and Grant Dullinger
had 2-2 marks. The Eagles topped three Section 8AAA foes in the Willmar
quadrangular with big wins over Central Lakes Conference foe Willmar
53-19, Moorhead 42-22 and Buffalo 61-10. Grant Dullinger, Matt Braun,
Grant Nehring, Nam Nguyen, Chris Rocheleau, Clayton Athman and Mitch
Bengston all were 3-0 at the quad. The Eagles topped Central Lakes
Conference and Section 8AAA foe Sauk Rapids 42-30 and Lean and Mean AA
Watertown-Mayer 52-18.
4. ELK RIVER ELKS
The Elks had a great showing as they topped the field at the Charlie
Turner Duals in Richfield with huge wins over Henry Sibley J. V. 81-0,
Lakeville North 43-23 and Minnetonka 52-21. Jake Staffenhagen, Robert
Kehcum, Eric Stevens, Austin Stevens, Tyler Stevens and Holton Lubinski
were all 3-0 at the Richfield event. The Elks earned 74 points and
twenty-second place at the Rumble on Red tourney. Holton Lubinski
earned sixth place with a 4-3 mark, Tyler Stevens earned fifth place
with a 5-2 mark. Also having good showings were Eric Stevens had a 4-2
mark, Kyle Wieman 3-2 and Jake Stefenhagen 3-2 marks. The Elks had a
great tourney as they earned 180 points and ten place winners at the
Blue Jacket Invitational hosted by Cambridge. Eric Stevens, Tyler
Stevens, Holton Lubinski and Jory Lubinski all won championships and
Jake Staffenhagen and Evan Caldon both earned second place. Kyle Wieman
earned third place, Yon Yee Vang earned fourth place and taking fifth
place were Mitch Beaudry, Robert Kechum and Austin Stevens.
5. BRAINERD WARRIORS
The Warriors topped Central Lakes Conference foe Rocori 37-27 in a very
good dual. They earned eleventh place at the Big Bear tourney hosted by
Cass Lake with 102 points in a field of thirty-two teams. Aaron Padrnos
won their lone championship, Mack Glasby earned second place, Chad
Ohman earned fifth place, Jesse Franzen took eighth place and Nick
Graussam had a 3-2 mark. The Warriors dropped a big Central Lakes
Conference dual to rival Fergus Falls 37-28. They topped Central Lakes
Conference foe Sartell 65-6 and Section 8AAA foe Buffalo 48-12. The
Warriors earned fifth place with ten wrestlers placing in the top five
with 134 points at the Blue Jacket Invitational hosted by
Cambridge-Isanti. Aaron Padrnos, Jessen Franzen and Sam Pagel earned
second place and Tyler Kohlmeier earned third place. Earning fourth
place were; Bryton Munz, Matt Solid, Nate Adams, mack Glasby and Chad
Ohman and taking fifth place was Dan Babineau.
6. MOORHEAD SPUDS
The Spuds topped class A rival Barnesville 41-24. They had a great
tourney with 124 points to earn sixth place at the Big Bear Tourney a
field of thirty-two teams. They had five place winners in the top six
with Mark Wychor winning a championship, Chase Morlock earned fourth
place, Brock Tallskson, Nick Langeberg and Ben Gaughan all earned sixth
place. Jacob Throwbridge and Evan Gary both had 3-2 marks. The Spuds
had a great showing at the Willmar quadrangular with two big wins over
Section 8AAA foes; Willmar 39-26 and Buffalo 46-21. They dropped a dual
to the No. 10AAA ranked St. Cloud Apollo 42-22. Ben Gaughan and Mark
Wychor had great showings as they were both 3-0 at the quad. The Spuds
had a great tourney showing as they scored 206 points and had twelve
wrestlers place. Jacob Rositas, Chase Morlock, Wilson Karstrom and Mark
Wychor all won championships. Ben Gaughan, Joey Carpenter and A. J.
Wheeler all earned second place and Nick Langeberg earned third place.
Evan Gary, Jacob Throwbridge and Mike Zupan all earned fourth place and
Ben Herbst took fifth place.
7. SAUK RAPIDS STORM
The Storm topped Central Lakes Conference rival Sartell 46-25. They had
some good showings at the Rumble on Red tourney held in the Fargo Dome.
This is a field of fifty eight teams. Eric Olson and Stephen Bucholz
were both 3-2 and Tyler Diederich, Chris Keske and Shane Fessenmaier
all had 2-2 marks. The Storm had a great dual with No. 10AAA ranked and
Central Lakes Conference rival St. Cloud Apollo but drop it by a 42-30
margin. They traveled across the border to Hudson, Wisconsin where they
had a great showing with a 3-1 mark with huge wins over Hutchinson
41-28, Baldwin Woodville, Wisconsin 65-11 and Somerset, Wisconsin
57-24. They dropped a dual to the host Hudson 51-13. Shane Fessenmaier
and Eric Olson were 4-0 and Mitch Mehrwerth and Ryan Medlin were both
3-1 one at Hudson.
8. ROCORI SPARTANS
The Spartans dropped a Central Lakes Conference dual to Brainerd 37-27
and to former Section 6AA rival No. 9AA ranked Dassel Cokato 47-27.
They topped former Section 6AA rival Litchfield 35-34. They dropped a
dual to AA Lean and Mean Hutchinson 39-36
9. WILLMAR CARDINALS
The Cardinals topped Central Lakes Conference foe Sartell 60-6. They
had a great showing at the Big Bear Tourney with 112.5 Points to earned
eighth place in the field of thirty-two teams. Alex Johannes and Nathan
Swoyer both earned third place, Coty Milhaussen and Eugene Stepan each
earned fourth place and Seth Pollack took fifth place. The Cardinals
went 1-2 at their quadrangular as they topped Section 8AAA foe Buffalo
38-18 and they dropped duals to Moorhead 39-26 and No. 10 AAA St. Cloud
Apollo 63-19. Nathan Swoyer and Alex Johannes both went 3-0 at the
quadrangular. They topped St. Cloud Tech 40-33 in a Central Lakes
Conference dual.
10. ST. CLOUD TECH TIGERS
The Tigers won a pair of duals one big win was over Section 8AA rival
Buffalo 44-27 and Melrose 60-18. They dropped duals to No. 6AA Mora
49-24 and to Minnetonka in a very close dual 38-37. They traveled to
Mora for the Mustang Invitational with about half of their team where
they had three place winners including; Bennet Johnson earned second
place and Peter Kalla and Shane Keller both earned third place.
11. BUFFALO BISON
The Bison dropped a Mississippi 8 Conference dual to Cambridge-Isanti
65-3. They dropped a dual to Section 8AAA foe St. Cloud Tech 44-27 and
no report on the Minnetonka dual. The Bison dropped three duals to
Section 8AAA foes including; Willmar 38-18, Moorhead 46-21 and No. 10
AAA St. Cloud Apollo 61-10. Tim Ruter and Dylan Tilbury were both 3-0
at the Willmar quad. The Bison were 2-2 at their dual meet invitational
with wins over Section 8AAA foe Alexandria 49-27 and East Ridge 53-27.
12. BEMIDJI LUMBERJACKS
The Lumber Jacks dropped a dual to rival Grand Rapids 51-24 and they
were 0-3 at the Frazee quadrangular. Corey Huber and Dale Norton both
place seventh at the Rumble of Red tourney. They topped Zimmerman 51-22
and dropped duals to Cambridge 51-22 and Totino-Grace at the Cambridge
quad. They had four place winners at the Blue Jacket Invitational
including: Corey Huber earned second place, Dale Nortan and Logan
Crosby earned third place and Jake Crosby took fourth place.
13. ALEXANDRIA CARDINALS
The Cardinals dropped a Central Lakes Conference dual to Fergus Falls
66-9. They were 1-3 at the Buffalo "Bison" Duals with a win over
Eastridge 66-12. They dropped duals to Buffalo 49-27, Dassel-Cokato
52-13 and to Mille Lacs 49-20
