MAT RATS TOP CLASS AAA TEAMS
1. SAINT MICHAEL-ALBERTVILLE KNIGHTS
The Knights topped Mississippi 8 Conference foes Princeton 58-3
and Becker 67-4 to claim the Conference championship. They topped a
pair of foes AA New Prague 58-9 and AAA Northfield 50-9. They topped
three foes at the Knights dual meet invitational with big wins over
Prior Lake 49-12, Kenyon-Wanamingo 53-12 and Orono 63-7. They dropped a
dual to rival and No. 2AA ranked Foley 31-21 in a very exciting match.
The Knights closed out their regular season with a very solid
performance to top Class AA No. 8 ranked Milaca 38-14.
2. CAMBRIDGE-ISANTI BLUE JACKETS
The Blue Jackets topped three Mississippi 8 Conference foes Big Lake
49-10, Princeton 50-22 and Becker 72-3. They topped two foes at the
Tornado Duals hosted by Anoka; in the quarter finals they topped AA
Lean and Mean Fergus Falls 41-25 and in the semifinals they
topped Grand Rapids 47-13. In the championship dual they dropped a very
close dual to highly ranked Hastings 33-31. Tyler Tischer, Ty
Torgerson, Adam Kelling, Clayton Jennissen, Derek Swanson and Scott
Gifford were all 3-0 at the Tornado duals.
3. ST. CLOUD APOLLO EAGLES
The Eagles topped Central Lakes Conference rival and Section 8AAA foe
Rocori 60-8, they had seven big falls to lead the way. The Eagles
earned their first Central Lakes Conference championship by topping
Conference and Section rival Brainerd 30-29. The Eagles topped Section
8AAA foe Bemidji 54-24. Nolan Rial won his 100th career match against
Brainerd to help secure their big win. The Eagles closed out their
regular season with a great showing at the Purple Pride tourney hosted
by Albany with 164 points and nine place winners to earn third place.
Mitch Bengtson, Nam Nguyen and Nolan Rial all won championships and
Grant Nehring, Grant Dullinger, Clayton Athman and Chris Rocheleau all
earned second place. Alex Lawwell earned fourth place and Nick Lawwell
took fifth place.
4. ELK RIVER ELKS
The Elks topped Northwest Suburban conference foe Park Center 46-26.
They topped rival district ISD 728 foes Zimmerman 49-25 and Rogers
66-6. The Elks topped AA Lean and Mean and rival Monticello 29-25 in a
very good dual. At the Bengal Duals hosted by Blaine they topped
Irondale 78-0 and Rosemount 41-32 and dropped a dual to Coon
Rapids 42-20. Jake Staffenhagen, Eric Stevens, Holton Lubinski and Jory
Linbinski were all 3-0 at the Bengal Duals. They topped AA Lean and
Mean and possibly one of their biggest rivals Monticello 29-25 in a
very exciting dual.
5. BRAINERD WARRIORS
The Warriors topped Central Lakes Conference foe Willmar 39-22. They
topped Section 8AAA rival Bemidji 50-14 and came up just short in their
dual with St. Cloud Apollo 30-29 in a huge Section 8AAA dual.
They closed out their regular season with a loss to Central Lakes
Conference rival Little Falls 40-24.
6. MOORHEAD SPUDS
The Spuds continue to have a great season with a pair of wins over
Section 8AAA foes Sauk Rapids 30-24 and Alexandria 43-27. They earned
fourth place at the Laker duals hosted by Detroit Lakes; in the
quarterfinals they topped Pequot Lakes/Pine River/Backus 39-26. The
Spuds dropped their semifinal dual to Fergus Falls 43-30 before
dropping their third place dual to Little Falls 42-27. Jacob Rositas,
Brock Tallakson and Mark Wychor were all 3-0 at the Laker Duals. The
Spuds dropped a dual to cross town rival and highly ranked North Dakota
team Fargo South 38-18. They had a great showing at the "Big Ole"
Tournament hosted by Alexandria with 158 points and thirteen place
winners to earn third place. Ben Gaughan, Mark Wychor and Chase Morlock
all won championships and Brock Tallakson earned second place. Earning
third place was Jacob Rositias; Brett Morlock, Mitchel Moe, Jame
Golling and A. J. Wheeler all earned fourth place. Evan Gary, Jacob
Throwbridge and Mike Holtan all took fifth place. They had yet another
great showing as they topped Class AA foe East Grand Forks 52-24. The
Spuds closed out their regular season with a win over Section
8AAA rival Bemidji 40-28 and a loss to another Section 8AAA foe St.
Cloud tech 42-21.
7. SAUK RAPIDS STORM
The Storm topped Central Lakes Conference and Section 8AAA rival
Alexandria 46-27. They dropped a dual to Section 8AAA foe Moorhead in a
very good dual 30-24. They topped AA Becker 41-25 and came up short
against AA Lean and Mean Annandale/Maple Lake 54-13. The Storm took on
the Number two nationally ranked Apple Valley at the Ranger Duals
hosted by Forest Lake in their quarter final dual and they came up
short 55-6. They dropped their consolation semifinal dual to Lean and
Mean Class A foe LeSueur-Henderson 34-18. In the seventh place match
they lost to AA New Prague 42-25. The Storm continue to struggle in
their effort to get their whole team all the mat at the same time. They
dropped duals to a pair of rivals; Central Lakes Conference foe Little
Falls 58-25 and to Foley 55-9.
8. WILLMAR CARDINALS
The Cardinals dropped a dual to Central Lakes Conference foe and
Section 8AAA rival Brainerd 39-22. They dropped a to dual to Class A
ranked Bold 35-9 in a dual that had a couple of double forfeits. The
Cardinals had a huge win over Central Lakes Conference and Section 8AAA
rival Rocori 34-31.
9. ROCORI SPARTANS
The Spartans dropped duals to Central Lakes Conference foes and
Section 8AAA rivals St. Cloud Apollo 60-18 and Willmar 34-31. They had
a great tourney at the Big Ole with 143 points and eleven place
winners; including two wrestlers that earned second place; Kyle
Lieser and Alex Weiman. Levi Olivier, Jordan Hemmesch, Tim Solder and
Dylan Gertken all earned third place. Nate Ness earned fourth place and
taking fifth place were Zavier Grooper, Tony Phillips and Adam
Liestman. The Spartans topped Central Lakes Conference rival Alexandria
to close out the regular season.
10. ST. CLOUD TECH TIGERS
The Tigers dropped a dual to Central Lakes Conference rival and Section
8AAA foe Little Falls 40-35. They dropped a dual to Lean and Mean Class
A Mille Lacs 45-25. They had a great dual against Central Lakes
Conference and Section 8AAA rival Alexandria as they defeated them
41-33. The Tigers dropped a dual to Class AA Lean and Mean and Central
Lakes Conference rival Fergus Falls 51-19. They came back with possibly
their performance of the season to topped Class A Lean and Mean Kimball
36-32. They closed out their regular season with a great wins over a
pair of Section 8AAA rival; as they topped a tough Moorhead team 42-21
and Bemidji 58-16.
11. BEMIDJI LUMBERJACKS
The Lumberjacks dropped a dual to Class A ranked Greenbush-Middle
River/Badger 51-9. They were 1-2 at the Alexandria quadrangular with a
big win over Section 8AAA foe Alexandria 43-22. They dropped duals to
Class AA Lean and Mean Detroit Lakes 37-28 and to Class A
Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale 45-35. Logan Crosby, Craig Maas, Dale Norton,
Josh Dreyer and Corey Huber were all 3-0 at the Alexandria Quad. The
Lumberjacks traveled to Blaine for the Bengal Duals where they dropped
their quarterfinal match to Coon Rapids 56-18, won the consolation
semifinal over Irondale 45-30 and in their final dual dropped a close
one to the host Blaine 36-35. Dale Norton, Alex Johnson, Craig Maas,
Leroy Pacheco and Corey Huber wall unbeaten at the Blaine event. They
split duals at their triangular as they topped rival
Blackduck/Cass Lake/Bena 62-18 and dropped a very exciting dual to
Fosston/Bagley. They closed out their regular season with a pair losses
to Section 8AAA rivals Moorhead 40-28 and St. Cloud Tech 58-16.
12. BUFFALO BISON
The Bison dropped duals to Mississippi 8 Conference rivals
Monticello 64-3 and Zimmerman 60-9. They scored seventy-nine
points to earn seventh place at the Totino Grace Tourney with four
place winners including; Timmy Ruter won the lone championship, Mike
Simeon earned second place, Tanner Robasse earned third place and
Cedric Jeminez took fourth place. They closed out their regular season
with 86.6 points and six place winners at the White Hawk Invitational
hosted by Mound. Timmy Rutter won the lone championship and Lucas Mock
earned second place. Hunter Thiel and Tanner Maus both earned third
place. Gus Koppi earned fourth place and Matt Ruhr took fifth place.
13. ALEXANDRIA CARDINALS
The Cardinals dropped a pair of duals to Section 8AAA foes Moorhead
43-27 and Sauk Rapids 46-27. They dropped three duals at the
quadrangular: Bemidji 43-22, Detroit Lakes 52-24 and
Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale 37-32. Lucas Betterman and Andy Bouressa were
both 3-0 at the quad. The Cardinals dropped a Central Lakes Conference
dual to St. Cloud Tech 41-33. They earned 109.5 points at their "Big
Ole" Invitational with nine place winners. Cole Ellison and Lucas
Betterman both earned second place and Andy Bouressa and Ross Carlson
both earned third place. Nick Hammje and Kyle Fulghum both earned
fourth place and Zach Carlson and Anthony Hubbard both took fifth place.
MAT RATS TOP CLASS AA TEAMS
1. FOLEY FALCONS
The Falcons topped West Central Conference foe and Section 6AA rival
New London-Spicer 39-13 to earn the Dual Meet Championship for the West
Central North Conference. They had a very impressive tourney with two
hundred and fifty six points and fourteen place winners to win the West
Central North Conference Tournament Championship. Keith Thell, Mitch
Dunlap, Taylor Rothfork, Brandon Seppelt, Zach Jackson and Tyler
Lewandowski all won championships and Sam Keeler, Will Sustercich,
Taylor Lewandowski, Justin Bowland and Jordan Bialke all earned second
place to take All WCN Conference Honors. Earning third place were Mark
Gehling and Tyler Bemboom also earned Honor Mention All WCN Honors.
Matt Beehler wrestled a great tourney to earn fourth place thus all
fourteen wrestlers placed in the top four. They topped AAA rival Sauk
Rapids 55-9. The Falcons had a very good showing at the Knight Duals
hosted by Saint Michael-Albertville with big wins over Class A state
ranked Kenyon-Wanamingo 48-19, AAA Prior Lake 58-3 and Orono 68-5. The
biggest match of the day was they topped No. 2AAA ranked and a their
huge rival Saint Michael-Albertville 31-21. Sam Keeler, Zach Jackson
and Tyler Lewandowski were all 3-0, Jordan Bialke was 3-1 and Brandon
Seppelt and Justin Bowland were both 3-0 at the Knight duals.
2. NEW LONDON SPICER WILDCATS
The Wildcats dropped a West Central North Conference rival and Section
6AA foe Foley 39-13. They had a very impressive tourney where they
earned one hundred and eighty eight points and had thirteen place
winners to earn second place at the West Central North Conference
Tournament. Earning All Conference honors were champions; Chase
Austvold and John Nething and Ben Henle, Shaun Hatlestad and Tanner
Tobkin all earned second place. Tom Duscher and Logan Brink both took
third place to earn Honorable Mention All Conference. Taking four place
for the Wildcats were Treyton Austvold, Elliot Eckhoff, Dylan Hanson,
Cody Haugen, Chris Pfau and Zach Borka. They had a huge day at the
Tornado Duals hosted by Anoka with a big win over Section 6AA foe
Little Falls 31-30, the Wildcats dropped their semifinal dual to No.
4AAA ranked Hastings 33-27. They topped AA Lean and Mean Grand Rapids
46-23 to earn third place. Ben Henle, Chase Austvold, Shaun Hatlestad
and John Nething were all 3-0 at the Tornado Duals. The Wildcats closed
out their regular season with a big win over Section 6AA foe
Annandale/Maple Lake 40-17 they also topped Class A No. 10
ranked BOLD 33-24.
3. MORA MUSTANGS
The Mustangs are starting to get most of their wrestlers back from the
injured list. They had most of their wrestlers competing at the West
Central North Conference tournament where they earned one hundred and
fifty four points and eleven place winners to take fourth place.
Earning All Conference Honors were Seth Sanftner, Andrew Youngblom,
Blake Menard and Derek Carlson all won championships and Dusty
Thorhauer, and Tyler Carlson both earned second place. Tony Jenson
earned fourth place and taking fifth place were Thomas Hischer, Alex
Dahms, Zach Smith and Brian Hanson. The Mustangs topped a pair section
7AA rivals with big wins over Princeton 46-18 and
Hinckley-Finlayson/Pine City 69-11. The Mustangs had most of their
wrestlers back in the lineup as they closed out their regular season
with a very strong showing at the Purple Pride Tournament hosted by
Albany. They scored 198 points and had ten place winners including five
championships by Andrew Youngblom, Zane VanVleet, Blake Menard, Tyler
Carlson and Derek Carlson. Dusty Thorhauer, Ken Kastanbauer, Cody
LaFraomboise and Nick Muehlberg all earned second place and Thomas
Hischer took fifth place.
4. DASSEL COKATO CHARGERS
The Chargers topped Wright County Conference rival Watertown-Mayer
39-34. The Chargers had a great tourney as they topped the field of
teams at the Laker Duals hosted by Detroit Lakes. They topped
Crosby-Ironton in the quarterfinals 50-13 and in the semifinals they
topped section 6AA foe Little Falls 38-34. In the championship the
Chargers topped AA Lean and Mean foe Fergus Falls in a very exciting
dual 33-28. Max Anderson, Brandon Fiedler, Brett Abrahamson, Tyler
Dobmeir and Sam Pokonowski. They topped Wright County Conference foe
Orono 63-13, before falling to No. 5AA ranked Scott West
41-23. The Chargers closed out their regular season with a win over
Wright County Conference foe Glencoe-Silver Lake/LP 64-9.
5. MILACA WOLVES
The Wolves had a great tourney performance with one hundred and seventy
five points and twelve place winners to earn third place at the West
Central North Conference Tournament. Earning All Conference honors were
Mike Kelley their lone championship and Ripp Baker, Marshall Ash and
Jonah Gahn all earned second place. Joey Curtis, Joe Moscho, Jordan
Rogalla, John Crain, Justin Ladehoff and Joe Hemmerich all earned third
place to take Honorable Mention All Conference honors. Jordy Rogallo
and Jake Earl both took fifth place for the Wolves. The Wolves topped
Section 7AA rival Grand Rapids 36-24 in a important section dual. They
topped three foes at the Bengal Duals hosted by Blaine with huge wins
over all AAA foes Spring Lake Park 71-4, Rosemount 62-7 and Coon Rapids
43-10. The Wolves won 36 of 42 matches in their three duals at the
Bengal duals. The Wolves closed out their regular season with a
dual with the No. 2AAA ranked St. Michael- Alb
rtville Knights; they came out on the short end 38-14.
6. FERGUS FALLS OTTERS
The Otters topped Central Lakes Conference foe Sartell 60-18. The
Otters earned second place at the Detroit Lakes "Laker" Duals with
their quarterfinal win over Detroit Lakes 46-13 and Semifinal win over
Moorhead 43-30. In the championship their dropped a very close dual to
top twelve ranked Dassel Cokato 33-28. Alex Hensch, Tyler Giza, Bryant
Marquedant, Dan Revering, Jesse Laugen, Tylor Garding and Colton
Thorson were all 3-0 at the Laker Duals. The Otters had a huge win over
Section 8AA foe Perham 32-31; this may have given them the number one
seed in the Section 8AA tournament. They traveled to Anoka to
participate in the Tornado duals where they dropped three duals to AAA
foes Cambridge-Isanti No. 3AAA ranked 41-25, Anoka 39-30 and St.
Francis 48-25. Dan Revering was the lone Otter to go 3-0 at the Tornado
duals as most of the wrestlers only competed in two matches. The Otters
closed out their regular season with a very impressive performance with
their efforts they topped Central Lakes Conference St. Cloud Tech.
51-19. They also topped Class A Lean and Mean foe Kimball in a very
exciting dual 36-22.
7. LITTLE FALLS FLYERS
The Flyers topped Central Lakes Conference rivals St. Cloud Tech 40-35
and Class A Lean and Mean foe Mille Lacs 49-30. They earned third place
the at the Laker Duals hosted by Detroit Lakes as they topped AA Lean
and Mean foe Thief River Falls 42-34 in the quarterfinals. In the
semifinals they dropped a dual to top twelve ranked Dassel Cokato in a
very hotly contested dual 38-34. The Flyers topped Moorhead 42-27 in
their third place dual. Frank Wilczek, Dillon Kifer, Derik Jendro, Cody
Bue, Autin Scherping and Brandon Heimenz were all 3-0 at the Laker
Duals. They topped Central Lakes Conference foe Sauk Rapids 48-25. The
Flyers earned fifth place at the Tornado duals; in the quarterfinal
dual they dropped a very exciting dual to Section 6AA foe New
London-Spicer 31-30. In the consolation semifinals they dropped
this one to St. Francis 48-23. The Flyers did topped AAA and host Anoka
for fifth place 41-25. Conner Scherping, Dillon Kifer, Joe Tuholsky and
Austin Scherping were all 3-0 at the Tornado duals. The Flyers topped
Central Lakes Conference rival Brainerd 40-24 to close out their
regular season.
8. MONTICELLO MAGIC
The Magic continue to have a great season with yet another big win over
a Mississippi 8 Conference rival Buffalo 64-3. They really turned some
heads with their performance at the Pete Veldman tournament hosted by
South Saint Paul with two hundred and fifty one and half points and
twelve place winners in this sixteen team field of teams to claim the
championship. Tyler Mergen, Logan Draack, Jake Schmitz, Eric Bourgeois
and Sebastian Garnder all won championships. Randy Ashcer and Jacob
Barker both earned third place and Joe Jude earned fourth place. Ben
Fehn and Jacob Kohler both earned fifth place and Jake Berthiame and
Ryan Michaelis both took sixth place. The Magic dropped a dual to their
rival and No. 12AAA ranked Elk River 29-25.
9. ANNANDALE/MAPLE LAKE LIGHTNING
The Lightning continue to roll over their foes including a very
convincing win over Mound-Westonka a Wright County Conference foe 70-7.
They topped AA Becker 58-15 and AAA Sauk Rapids 54-13 both very
impressive efforts. The Lightning split a pair of duals as they topped
AAA Buffalo 51-21 and they dropped a big Wright County Conference dual
to Watertown-Mayer 42-32. They will now share the Wright County
Conference Championship with Dassel-Cokato. They had a very
strong showing as they scored 208 points and twelve place winners to
earned the championship of the Cougar Invitational hosted by Mankato
East. Matt Fuller, Alex Couette and Jesse Puncochar all won
championships and Derek Rachel, Chris Salveson, Jordan Hanan, Tyler
Pipo and Teddy Erickson all earned second place. Peter Nordlie earned
third place, Isaac Hendrickson and Austin Kalla both earned fourth
place and Kevin Salveson took fifth place. The Lightning closed out
their regular season with a tough loss to Class AA No. 6 ranked New
London-Spicer 40-17.
10. DAWSON-BOYD/LQPV UNITED
The United topped Murray County Central 51-18 and Class A ranked
Jackson County Central 30-29. They had a very impressive showing at the
West Central South Conference tournament with one hundred and seventy
six and half points and eight placing in the top four to earn third
place. John Weeding, Ryan Swenson, Lane Mitchell and Christian Olson
all won championships. Dylan Croatt, Jake Bothun and Sam Haas all
earned second place; all finalists earned All Conference honors
and Codie Weeding earned four place in this very tough tourney. The
United crew had a great tourney with 224 points and twelve place
winners to earn second place; as they were edged by
Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg by just one point. Ryan Swenson and Christian
Olson both won championships and Sam Haas, John Weeding, Dylan Croat,
Lane Mitchell, Jake Bothun and Codie Weeding all earned second place
and Brandon Schmidt earned third place. Josh Staab, Bo Stensrud and J.
D. Strukness all earned fourth place.
11. STAPLES-MOTLEY CARDINALS
The Cardinals topped Class A Lean and Mean Pierz 36-28 in a very
exciting dual. They also crushed former Section 6A foes Parkers Prairie
57-9 and Breckenridge 61-11. They topped Class A rival and former
Mid-State Conference foe Aitkin 44-21. The Cardinals dominated the Wolf
Pack Tourney hosted by Walker with 253 points and all fourteen
wrestlers placing in the top five. Blake Miller, Jordan Bendson, Dylan
Shequen, David DeYonge and Brady Killian all won championships. Blake
Patrich, Ryan Detloff, Chandler Trout and Brent Lisson all earned
second place. A Trio of Cardinals earned third place; Brandon
Flickinger, Sam Duberowski and Jordan Heldman. Ryan Kobliska earned
fourth place and Tyler Poguba took fifth place. The Cardinals earned
second place at the Cowboy Duals hosted by Breckenridge with big wins
over Breckenridge 59-16 and Browerville/Eagle Valley 40-30. They were
defeated in the championship by Border West 39-33. They did sit three
regulars because of their match count in this dual. Jordan Bendson,
Dylan Shequen, Blake Petrich, Ryan Detloff and David DeYonge were all
3-0 at the Cowboy duals. The Cardinals complete their regular season
with a 19-2 dual meet mark.
12. PRINCETON TIGERS
The Tigers dropped a dual to Mississippi 8 Conference foe and No. 2AAA ranked Saint Michael-Albertville 58-3.
LITCHFIELD DRAGONS
The Dragons topped Wright County Conference foe Waconia 37-34 in a very
close dual. The Dragons had a strong showing at the Totino Grace
Invitational with one hundred and forty and half points and eight place
winners. Kyle Ballard, Dan Cox and Kody Kalkbrenner all won
championships and Tyler Jones earned second place. Dylan Reiner and
Austin Jones both earned third place and Shane Gutormson and Derek
Celander both took fourth place. The Dragons closed out their regular
season with a loss to Wright County Conference foe Delano 44-24.
CHISAGO LAKES WILDCATS
The Wildcats topped North Suburban Conference foe Spring Lake Park
47-28. They had a great tourney performance with one hundred and
eighty three and half points and eleven place winners to claim
the championship of the Meadow Creek Christian "Saints" Invitational.
Quade Zapko, Clay Anderson and Jake Nase all won championships and
Chase Kammerer, Nick Meyer, Josh Linman and Riley Meyers all earned
second place. Ben Hinderman earned third place, Sean McConville fourth
place and Sean Hoyt and Bobby Sontag both took fifth place. They
dropped a Section 7AA and Suburban North Conference dual to North
Branch 36-23.
NORTH BRANCH VIKINGS
The Vikings topped North Suburban Conference rival Columbia Heights
76-3. They had a very good tourney with 178 points and ten place
winners to earn second place at the Skip Nalan tournament hosted by
Grand Rapids. John Morrison and Justin Bergerson both won championships
and Jake Kostick, Pat Mork and Luke LaVasseuer all earned second place.
Jake Pitz and Stuart Frink both earned third place, Reid Johnson fourth
place and Evan Silver and Dalton Horak both took fifth place. They
topped Section 7AA and North Suburban Conference foe Chisago Lakes
36-23. The Vikings closed out their regular season with a win over
North Suburban Conference foe Spring Lake Park 58-12.
MAT RATS TOP CLASS A TEAMS
1. ATWATER-COSMOS-GROVE CITY FALCONS
The Falcons had a good tournament as they earned 181 points and eleven
place winners to earn second place at the West Central South Conference
Tournament. Hayden Rouser and Larry Bomstad both won championships and
Ryan Larson earned second place to All Conference honors. Matt Lee,
Logan Peterson and Matt Meyer all took third place to earn Honorable
Mention All Conference. Jesse Whitcomb, James Nelson and Dylan Nelson
all earned fourth place and Nate Meyer and Mike Kramer took fifth
place. The Falcons top three foes at the Lakers Quadrangular with huge
wins over Class A Lean and Mean Medford 55-6, Rockford 61-13 and the

Whitcomb, Hayden Rouser, Larry Bomstad, Matt Meyer, Mike Kramer and
Ryan Larson were all 3-0 at the Lakers quad. The Falcons closed out
their regular season with a great tourney showing with 191 points and
thirteen place winners to earn second place at the Purple Pride Tourney
hosted by Albany. Hayden Rouser, Matt Lee and Ryan Larson won
championships and Matt Meyer earned second place. James Nelson, Michael
Kramer, Lucas Damm, Larry Bomstad and Nate Meyer all earned third
place. Dylan Nelson, Colin Kragenbring, Logan Peterson and Jesse
Whitcomb all earned fourth place.
2. BOLD WARRIORS
The Warriors had an outstanding team performance to claim the West
Central South Conference Tournament championship with 218.5 points and
thirteen place winners. Kyle Schulte won their only championship and
Dustin Caspers and Jacob Revier both took second place to earn All
Conference Honors. Cody Hatch, Alex Steffel, Brent O'Halloran, Zach
Revier and Tyler Minkel all earned third place to gain Honorable
Mention All Conference. Logan Erickson, Jacob Mikosch and Andrew Brooks
all earned fourth place and Ricky Morales and Brett Grund both took
fifth place. The Warriors closed out their regular season with two
losses to No. 6AA ranked New London-Spicer 33-24 and to AA Lean and
Mean rival Wabasso/Red Rock Central 29-27.
3. KERKHOVEN-MURDOCK-SUNBERG FIGHTING SAINTS
The Fighting Saints topped section 3A foes Yellow Medicine East 34-30
and Redwood Valley 57-9. They had a good tourney showing with 193
points and thirteen place winners to earned second place at the Camden
Conference tourney. Joel Bauman and Kurt Timmons both won championships
and Zach Carlson, Jordan Rothers, Tyler Carlson, Klinton VanHeuveln,
Trevor Mahlum and Matt Stassen all earned second place. Kyle Baker,
Aaron Doraska, Jessie Engler and Fredrich Lorentzen all earned third
place and Casey Krieger took fourth place. The Fighting Saints had a
great tourney showing with 200.5 points and thirteen place winners to
earn second place behind No. 1A ranked Frazee. Joel Bauman, Matt
Stassen, Jordan Rothers and Klinton Vanheuveln all won
championships. Joel Bauman was named by the coaches the
Outstanding Wrestler of the Tournament. Kurt Timmons, Zach Carlson,
Tyler Carlson and Casey Krieger all earned second place and Jessie
Engler earned third place. Frederik Lorentzen earned fourth place and
Kyle Baker, Stuart Johnson and Trevor Mahlum all took fifth place. The
Fighting Saints topped Section 3A rival Benson 32-31 and AA foe
Litchfield 43-23. They closed out the regular season with a outstanding
showing with 225 points and ten place winners at the Morris
Invite. Kurt Timmons, Jordan Rothers, Klinton VanHeuveln,
Joel Bauman and Matt Stassen all won championships. Tyler Carlson
earned second place, a pair of third places were earned by Trevor
Mahlum and Zach Carlson. Jesse Engler earned fifth place and
Casey Krieger took fifth place.
4. EDEN VALLEY WATKINS EAGLES
The Eagles for the second year straight won the Central Minnesota
Conference championship with a very exciting win over rival Kimball
38-31. They also topped another section 5A foe Sauk Centre 46-22.
5. PAYNESVILLE BULLDOGS
The Bulldogs earned 145 points and had seven place winners at the West
Central South Conference Tournament to claim sixth place in this very
tough field of individuals. Andrew Moser and Michael Doom both won
championships and All Conference Honors. Taking Honorable Mention All
Conference by earning third place were Trevor Spanier and Dominick
Platow. Eric Wolbeck and Jon Dorf both earned fourth place and Devin
Meagher took fifth place. The Bulldogs topped three foes at the dual
event hosted by Sauk Centre with a huge win over AA ranked Perham 31-18
and Section 5A rival Sauk Centre 52-11 and Parkers Prairie 57-10. The
Bulldogs closed out the regular season with a very dominating
performance.
6. YELLOW MEDICINE EAST STING
The Sting are finally getting back some of their wrestlers from the
injured list as they did top section 3A foe Redwood Valley 64-9 and
they dropped a very close dual to Section 3A rival
Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunberg 34-30 in a very exciting dual. The Sting had
an impressive performance at the West Central South Conference
Tournament with 164.5 points and ten place winners to earn fourth
place. Justin Tongen was their lone champion and Dylan Hoffman, Evan
Knudson, Derek Dyrdahl and Mason Hegna all earned second place. All of
these wrestlers thus earned All Conference Honors. Cody Sander earned
third place for Honorable Mention All Conference . Justin Stock and
Holdyn Sand both earned fourth place and Dustin Baker and Logan Johnson
both took fifth place.
7. KIMBALL CUBS
The Cubs continue to have a great season with a huge Central Minnesota
Conference dual meet win over Royalton 46-21. They crushed three
foes at their quadrangular with wins over AAA foes Mound-Westonka 48-6,
Robbinsdale Armstrong 63-15 and Richfield 56-16. The Cubs came up a
little short in their quest for higher section seed and a share of the
Central Minnesota Conference championship as they dropped a very close
dual to their biggest rival Eden Valley-Watkins 38-31. They did
bounce back to top another Section 5A foe Sauk Centre 53-12. The Cubs
had a few wrestlers that sat out of the Purple Pride Tournament hosted
by Albany. They earned 98.5 points and had six place winners including
one championship by Marcus Hamer. Alex Thurber and Tyler Kuechle both
earned second place and Tanner Mills earned third place. Travis
Schiefelbein and Travis Wills both took fourth place to conclude the
regular season for the Cubs.
8. BORDER WEST BUCCANEERS
The Buccaneers topped Section 6A foe Parkers Prairie 49-22 in a very
convincing matter. They topped four Section 5A foes Osakis 59-13,
Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa 42-27, Holdingford 53-15 and Browerville/Eagle
Valley 59-14. The Buccaneers topped South Dakota rivals Grotan 49-25
and Milbank 58-15. They topped a pair of Section 6A foes Bertha
Hewitt/Verndale 51-18 and Breckenridge; in a very close dual with
Perham they game up a little short 33-29 at the Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale
Quadrangular. Mitch Andrews, Will McCarthy, Austen Gray, Austin Maanum,
Charlie Maanum were all unbeaten at the quad. The Buccaneers closed out
the regular season with three big dual meet wins over East Grand Forks
81-0, Yellow Medicine East 39-26 and Staples-Motley 39-33 to win the
Cowboy Duals hosted by Breckenridge. Gus McCarthy, Mitch Andrews,
Ryan Murphy, Will McCarthy and Austin Maanum all 3-0 at the Cowboy
Duals.
9. PIERZ PIONEERS
The Pioneers topped Central Minnesota Conference foes
Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa 42-20 and Howard Lake/Waverly/Winsted 53-12.
They dropped a very exciting dual to AA Lean and Mean Staples-Motley
36-28. The Pioneers had a great tourney as they earned 145.5 points and
had eight place winners in the sixteen team event at the Veldman
Invitational hosted by South St. Paul to claim fifth place. Considering
the fact they held three starters out of this event that was an
impressive showing. Clint Poster won the lone championship and Brett
Brausen and Dylan Peterson both earned second place. Cody VanZee and
Chris Ortman both earned third place; Sean Huls fourth place and Nathan
Tomala and Brad Meyer took sixth place. The Pioneers closed out their
regular season with a big win over Section 7A rival Aitkin 47-22.
10. NEW YORK MILLS EAGLES
The Eagles topped two Section 6A foes; Wadena-Deer Creek 42-30 and
Barnesville 35-27. They had a solid performance with 176.5 points and
twelve wrestlers placing in the top five to earn second place at the
Park Region Conference. Shane Novak, Jordan Novak and Landyn Saewert
all won championships and Tommy Selander and Jarrod Norton earned
second place. Michael Meyer earned third place; Josh Bernu, Seth
Hofland, Max Carlson and Noah Pesola all earned fourth place. Tyler
Patron and Jake Hessig both took fifth place. The Eagles topped
two Park Region Conference with very impressive performances over
Browerville/Eagle Valley 42-32 and United North Central 57-9. The
Eagles closed out their regular season with a huge win over
Walker-Hackensack-Ackley-Nevis 58-16.
11. MILLE LACS RAIDERS
The Raiders topped Section 7A rival Royalton 42-26; this should give
the Raiders the number one seed in the section team tourney. They
topped AAA St. Cloud Tech 45-24 and came up short against AA Lean and
Mean Little Falls 49-30. They topped Great River Conference rival Rush
City/Braham 60-18. They split with their foes at the Royal Rumble
hosted by Rogers; they topped St. Paul Johnson 60-16 and dropped a very
close dual to Holdingford 33-31. The Raiders completed their regular
season with the Great River Conference championship with 222 points and
thirteen place winners. Mark Francour, Dylan Young, Ian Pratt and
Bradley Brown all won championships. Nik Borchert, Matthew Pett, Cody
Whitney, Chase Niesen, Andy Sammis, Bobby Kulhanke and Gabe Tramm all
earned second place. Tyler Knudson earned third place and Ozzie Miller
tooked fifthed place.
12. ROYALTON ROYALS
The Royals topped two Central Minnesota Conference foes
Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa 36-28 and Rockford 63-12. They dropped a big
Section 7A dual to rival Mille Lacs 42-26; this dual should determine
the number one seed in the section team tourney. The Royals topped
Central Minnesota Conference rival Howard Lake Waverly/Winsted 50-15 to
close out the regular season.
BROWERVILLE/EAGLE VALLEY BRONCOS
The Broncos topped the field of teams at the Park Region Conference
Tournament with 188 points and twelve place winners. Head Coach Any
Lancaster was named Park Region Conference coach of the Year. Travis
Borchert was named the Outstanding wrestler of the year in the Park
Region Conference. Travis Borchert, Randy Shamp and Lucas Kalina all
won championships and Nate Becker and Preston Irsfeld both earned
second place. Dominic Eckel, Justin Bollin and Jacob Shauer all earned
third place and Adam Sutleif and Tyler Kent both earned fourth
place. Brent Sadlo and Cody Middendorf both took fifth place. The
Broncos topped Park Region Conference rival United North Central 54-24.
They came up a little short against Park Region Conference rival New
York Mills 42-32.
