Three-time State Champion Jacob Volkmann topped off his senior year with a 35-1 record and a state championship at 152 pounds. It's the fourth time he qualified for the state tournament. With a 3.884 GPA, he is a two-time Guillotine Academic All-State wrestler. Jacob, a senior at Battle Lake-Underwood-Henning is the son of Dan and Sandy Volkmann. He was all-conference in football twice, as well as being the team captain in football and wrestling. 162-18 was his varsity career record, wrestling from 103 to 152 pounds. Jacob plans to wrestle in college and take up Spanish and Geology. Jacob was named Mr. Minnesota Wrestler for 1998-99. His coach is Kevin Anderson. |

Mark Carlson is a three-time state champion and a five-time state entrant. His parents are James and Sandra Carlson. Jason boasts a perfect 43-0 record his senior year and a career record of 170-19 -- 97 of those wins were pins. Mark is a two-time Guillotine Academic All-State Wrestler and a two-time Minnesota Wrestling Coaches Association Academic Wrestler. With a GPA of 3.74, he is a member of the National Honor Society. He was named Most Valuable Wrestler in 1997 and was a co-captain this year for both wrestling and football. With a 4.0 GPA, Jon Dierks is a National Honor Society member. Jon, a Mankato East senior, has wrestled from 103 to 189 pounds in his high school career, totalling 141 wins and 35 losses -- 69 of those wins were pins in his favor. Jon has never been pinned in his high school career. His record this season was 36-3. He's a two-time state entrant, placing 2nd this year. He's been All Big 9 three years and was a Minnesota/Wisconsin All-Star Classic participant in March. Jon attained the rank of Eagle Scout in '98 and he teaches Sunday school. His coach is Andre Harnitz and his parents are Gary and Kathy Dierks. Jon plans to attend college at Minnesota State-Mankato majoring in coaching and education. |

Two-time State Champion Mike Fiedler has a season record of 33-1. He was an entrant in '96, a state champ in '97, he suffered an injury in '98 and was a state champ in '99. He is a member of the Sauk Centre wrestling team which is coached by Eric Niemi. Mike was voted Most Valuable Wrestler in 1997 and 1999 and holds the school record for most career wins, 159-23. He placed 2nd at the freestyle Cadet World team trials in '96. In Greco-Roman he's placed 3rd and 6th at the Jr. Nationals and 2nd and 4th at the Cadet Nationals. In 1998 he was named Minnesota Jr. Wrestler of the Year. Mike has been a Student Council member and an honor roll student since the 9th grade and has recieved the Presidential Education Award. This Sauk Rapids-Rice High School senior has an impressive GPA of 4.0. Jacob Hutchins is a senior and wrestled for coach Dennis Bemboom. He has an almost flawless record of 37-1 this season and an overall career record of 89-31. This season Jacob placed third at state and was named a Minnesota Wrestling Coaches Association Academic All-State Wrestler. In 1997 he was a double All-American, taking 4th in Greco-Roman and 7th in freestyle. In 1998 he placed 6th in Greco-Roman. Josh wrestles for Hastings and coach Paul Vaith. He won the state tournament this year at 152 pounds and last year at 145 pounds. Josh has the potential to join the ranks of Minnesota's other three-time champions. He placed 6th in 1997. Josh has a 40-1 season record and a 139-30 varsity career record. He's a four-time All-conference and a three-time Section 3 all-acedemic team member. Josh is a five-year letterwinner and a two-time team captain. Jason Perala, son of Warren and Cheryl Perala is a two-time state entrant, placing 5th in '98 and 2nd in '99. He sports a 34-1 season record as a senior at Crookston under coach Rodd Olson. His overall career record is 108-42. He's a team MVP and was selected to the All-Star Minnesota/Wisconsin Classic Team where he went 2-0. Paul is a two time state entrant, this year winning the runner-up spot. He has a varsity career record of 59-21 and a season record of 29-6. Paul is a junior and his parents are Mark and Karon Sheldon. He wrestles for coach Don Krusemark and the Mankato West wrestling team. Paul is an honor roll student with a 3.87 GPA. He won the Student-Athlete Academic Award, was an All-State Wrestler, and was a Cross Country State Entrant. Upon graduation next year, Paul plans to attend college. |

Tony, son of Carl and Sherri Nord, is a three-time section champ, placing 2nd in the state tournament in 1998 and 3rd in 1999. He has a 109-21 career record and a season record of 27-2. Tony wrestles for Blackduck High School and is a junior. He has wrestled at 103, 112 and 119. Some honors include: 1999 MWCA Academic All-State,1996, 97, 98 football letter winner, All-Conference in 1998, National Honor Society, Student Council, FFA Vice president, Sophomore class officer, 1998 baseball letterwinner. Steve Bechtold is his wrestling coach. He plans to wrestle in college and is thinking about pursuing a seminary degree. |

145 pound state runner-up, Josh Payne is a senior who wrestled for the Morris Area/Hancock wrestling team and head wrestling coach Paul Court. He was a two-time state entrant with 29 wins and 9 losses this season. His overall varsity career record is 111-57. Dan and Gayle Payne are Josh's parents. He has a 3.83 GPA and is a member of the National Honor Society. He is a two-time West Central Conference Champion and was voted Team Most Valuable Wrestler. His future plans include Concordia College at Moorhead and studying engineering. |

This Willmar High School junior is a two-time state entrant, placing 3rd this year. Jacob Cruze, son of Tony and Sharon Cruze is a two-time CLC All-Conference Wrestler and a two-time section champion. Jacob had a 30-5 season record and has a 72-24 varsity career record. He has wrestled at 152-160 pounds. His GPA is an outstanding 3.89. Thomas Byer is his head wrestling coach. Upon graduation, Jacob plans to wrestle in college and major in law. |

Brian capped his senior season with a 39-4 record. He placed 1st in his section the past two seasons and placed in the state tournament both years taking 5th place in 1998 and 3rd place in 1999. He also placed 3rd in the Christmas Tournament the past two years. Brian is the son of John and Mary Jo Lahr and is coached by Neil Jennissen. Some of the honors Brian has earned are Academic All-State '97-98, MN Coaches Association Academic All-State '98-99, Captain, four-time All Conference, Class President, Student Council Treasurer, and Homecoming King. 112 pound Class AA State Champion Kelly Pederson of Big Lake High School is a junior who attained a varsity career record of 124-39 and a season record of 36-2. He has qualified for the state tournament the past three seasons. He is a four-time All-Conference wrestler, 1997 Cadet Greco World Team member, 1997 Cadet All-American, 5th in Greco, 1998 Junior National All-American, 4th in Greco, and 1998 Scandinavian Jr. World runner-up at 105 pounds. Chad Redmann was a section champion and placed second in the 1999 state tournament at heavyweight. He has wrestled at 189 pounds and hwt. His varsity career record is 50-14 and his season record is 37-6. John and Cheryl Redmann are his parents. Chad possesses a 3.66 GPA and his coach, Jim Jackson, and his Apple Valley teammates will be happy to see him back next year as a senior. |

David Hendrickson, state runner-up at 135 pounds was also a qualifier for the state tournament in 1998. He had a season record of 39-2 this year and a career record of 150-28. He has wrestled all the way from 103 pounds to 135 pounds. He was a four-time All-West Central Conference and was second in all-time wins at Montevideo where he wrestled for Coach Jeff Gallagher. His parents are David and Lorina Hendrickson. He has earned a 3.74 GPA and plans to attend Hutchinson Technical College (Ridgewater). |

Lakeville senior Matt Spitzner sports a 4.0 GPA and is a two-year member of the National Honor Society. He is a two-time state entrant placing 4th in 1999 at 112 pounds. He was a section champion and claimed a season record of 27-6. His varsity career record hit the 100 mark and he had only 15 losses. He is a three-time All Conference wrestler, a three-time LHS Outstanding Wrestler, a two-time MWCA Academic All-State wrestler, and LHS AAA Award Winner. With a career record of 120-38, Chris Baso placed 4th in this year's state tournament. His season record was 32-4. He has a 3.93 GPA for his senior year. Chris was a conference MVP in baseball and academic all-state in football. His parents are Kim and George Baso. Litchfield's Nathan Turck completed his junior year with a season record of 27-3. He placed first in his section and 4th at state. He has a varsity career record of 132-47. Team captain Matt Aho of Frazee-Vergas High School helped his team capture the 1999 Class A crown, wrestling at 140 pounds. Matt had a season record of 17-3 and a varsity career record of 139-35. His GPA is 3.4 and he is the son of Martin and Diane Aho. Wrestling for Coach Clay Nagel, Matt placed 3rd in the state tournament in 1998 and became a state champion in 1999. He holds the Breckenridge season record for pins, wins and near falls for this year. He placed first at the Heart of Lakes Tournament in 1999 wrestling at 125 pounds. He is a three-time state entrant taking 5th in 1998 and 4th in 1999. His coach is Mike Poppel. Josh is a member of the National Honor Society with a 3.79 GPA. His parents are Joe and Sue Jansen. Two-time section champion and three-time state entrant Mark Kotsmith is a senior who attained a varsity career record of 112 - 27 and a season record of 34-5. Each year he bettered his placing at the state tournament, placing 6th in '97, 5th in '98 and 4th in '99. He is a three sport letterman and a member of the National Honor Society with a GPA of 3.78. Mark is a member of the Milaca wrestling team coached by Randy Zimmer. He was named Rum River All Conference the past three years. Eagan High School senior Andy Miller is a two-time Guillotine Academic All-State Wrestler. He was a two-time state entrant, placing 2nd in 1998 and 3rd in 1999. He had a season record of 30-5 (four of those losses were one-point matches) and a career record of 143-28, with 76 falls. Andy wrestled from 103-130 pounds. He was a three-time section champion. Andy's parents are Dale and Diane Miller. His GPA is 3.57. Andy was a four- time All-Conference wrestler, two-time team captain, MWCA All-State and a two-year NHS member. His coach is Dalen Wasmund. Johnny Barthel is a member of the National Honor Society and has a 3.78 GPA. John and Barb Barthel are his parents. The St. Michael-Albertville wrestler has a 36-9 record for the year and a 69-40 career record. He placed 2nd in his section tournament this season and went on to place 5th at the state tournament at 145 pounds. Three-time state champion Luke Eustice, Blue Earth Area High School, had a season record of 39-0 and an overall varsity record of 163-18. He has wrestled at weights 103-125 pounds. He was a 5 time conference champion, 3 time conference Wrestler of the Year and a member of the Dapper Dan Classic and the Dream Team Classic. He is the son of Jack( head wrestling coach) and Mona Eustice and is a two time Guillotine Academic All-State Wrestler and sports a 3.12 GPA. Senior state champion for New Richland-Hartland/Ellendale Geneva High School, Justin Berg had a season record of 41-2 and a varsity career record of 102-29. He wrestled at weights 171 and 189. He was All-State in football in 1998 and was two-time All-Conference in wrestling. He was a 2 time section champion and wrestled on the Class A 1999 state runner-up team which is coached by Paul Cyr. Justin is a senior, son of Joe and Sue Jansen, and has a 3.10 GPA and plans to attend college and wrestle but is undecided where. He expects to major in criminal justice. |

Section champion Bill Ties had a season record of 33-3. As a senior, he holds a career record of 80-21. Bill was a 1999 Minnesota Wresting Coaches Association Academic All-State member. He was All-Conference two years and holds the team record for the most pins in a season -- 23. He also holds the Lewiston-Altura record for most team points -- 190. He is the son of Tom and Ginny Ties and is coached by Russel Bush. His futrue plans are to attend Gustavus Adolphus College and major in economics. |
