Cambridge won seven matches with three coming by the way of the fall. Brad Zilmer at 135, Travis Fuhol at 152, and Henderson at heavyweight all recorded falls. The win ended Hastings four year reign as Kiffmeyer Duals champs.

A large crowd once again attended the Duals which had five state ranked teams and 16 state ranked wrestlers. this years Duals were one of the closest contested duals ever as many of the matches came down to heayweight. Cambridge's win at heavyweight sealed their victory over Hastings, St. Cloud Tech's win at heavyweight sealed their victory over Hutchinson, Hutchinson won at heavyweight to beat Moorhead, and Brainerd's heavyweight won by a fall to beat Waconia.

This years B-squad matches were also closely contested. In the B-squad division, Cambridge came back from a 20-6 defecit to beat St. Cloud Tech in the finals 36-20, for third it was Hutchinson over Waconia. For 5th place Elk River beat Hastings, and for 7th Brianerd beat Moorhead.

The three state champions at the duals went 3-0 as Josh McLay at 160 won by a fall, a tech fall, and a major. Chris McAlpine won by a tech fall, fall, and a fall, while teammate Clint Martin won 7-6 over Timm from Waconia, 10-7 over Peterson of Cambridge, and a tech fall. The Duals had 16 state ranked wrestlers and 20 wrestlers who were in the 1999 State Tournament.

The highest ranking matchup individually was #2 Zajac of hastings wrestling # 3 Steve Schlagheck of St. Cloud Tech. Zajac came away with a 4-3 win. another high ranking match was at 112 where #4 Fiedler of Cambridge beat Hasting's Jeff Kranz who was ranked #3 at 112. Feidler beat him 8-4 scoring 7 points in the third period.

The Kiffmeyer Duals are in honor of long-time wrestling coach Jim Kiffmeyer who coached the tiger's for 27 years. Mr Kiffmeyer's son Kevin was the announcer and host of the tourney. Jim Kiffmeyer wrestled at St. Cloud Tech, wrestled for SCSU and caoched a tought at St. Cloud Tech high. all who knew Jim would know that this great sport is a little bit better because he was part of it. the Kiffmeyer Duals, which is recognized now as one of the strongest, classiest dual tournaments in the midwest, is a fine tribute to a fine man, Jim Kiffmeyer.

Next year, all eight teams will be back to go at it again. The only difference will be the color of the Dauls shirts; red and blue instead of the previous champions yellow and blue. next year the duals will be on Jan. 14th. see you there.
